I've stayed in some lovely Hiltons around the world but this is one of their motorway siding Hiltons from the UK that all look much of a muchness. Upon entrance, you'll see the most impressive thing about the building - which is the main foyer. It's a good space, and has a Costa Coffee at the back. The reception staff were courteous and helpful when I realised I didn't have my HHonours number (I gave it over at check out, which was fine).
The room itself was big, although on the first floor without a lift. Not a problem with my little wheely bag but I could imagine a problem with a family with larger bags - but reception did offer to order a porter to help.
Regarding the room - a little kooky in the layout with regards to the bathroom. So behind the bathroom door itself, you have the toilet and the bathtub - because the sink is in a little alcove before the door in a carpeted area opposite the wardrobe in the room itself. As a solo traveller, it was no problem - but if someone was travelling in a group and needed to use the bathroom during the night... well the alcove is on the same lighting network as the behind the door-bathroom. So you'd illuminate the rest of the room going for a quick break at 3am. Not a great idea.
Breakfast was having an off day on my first day, as it was much better on the second day. I suspect it was because I went late on day one whereas on the second dayI was there before 8am and everything looked more appetising.
So if I'm ever in the area again, then I'd go back. The hotel made me utterly comfortable. read more
