I was ecstatic about my stay at Stone Manor! The last time I visited the West Midlands, I stayed…read moredowntown Birmingham at a standard hotel, with standard amenities and it was fine. But compared to the peace and quiet, natural beauty and friendly staff at Stone Manor, I think I've found my preferred spot while visiting! Pulling up the drive, the manor itself is seated off the road and slightly away from the parking lot, giving it an idyllic look with strong Tudor framing for a classic look. The interior is clean and well-kept with a stately lived-in look rather than a "don't touch that" museum feel. The rooms are down halls, up stairs, through doors and finding yours can be a bit of a hunt. Quick tip: if you or one of your party is mobility challenged, let the staff know to appropriately room you as there are a number of spaces that would be difficult for wheelchairs or crutches. The rooms themselves are well-appointed and extremely comfortable. I visited in the fall, so popping open the windows to allow some of the cool air and the sounds of nature from the gardens was a no-brainer. I'm not sure how well air conditioned they are in the summer, though. The bathroom I had was amazing! Full shower and a deep tub that I could completely get covered in (not common for someone 6'1"). Finish it off with soft robes and a heated towel rack and I felt clean and comfy. WiFi is solid throughout the establishment The English gardens outside are delightful for walking and were soothing. There is a 1 mile nature run as well, but rains prevented me from giving that a try. The restaurant and bar are very good. The fish and chips were some of the best I had during any visit. I ate here three nights in a row and was very pleased with each meal and the diverse though moderate selection of beers available at the bar. I can't wait to visit again!

Room was large with a comfy large bed, clean (almost new) towels and an adequate size bathroom. Breakfast was more than adequate with choices of fruit juice, cereals, croissant, bread and a choice of cooked platefuls. Unfortunately, on arrival, there was the annual carnival in town. Great for Stourbridge, and I certainly have no complaint about that except we drove around the ring road about six times trying to find the way in. In the end a steward guided us to the Tesco car park where we could park free for two hours. Reception at the hotel was extremely helpful. We were advised to park in the multi-storey for an hour or two as the carnival would clear up by 6 pm. It did and we managed to reach the hotel car park a few minutes later. I felt that management could have emailed us to let us know and, therefore, avoiding a lot of stress on our old hearts. 3 stars is about correct for this 'quaint' hotel. Old and needing some money spent on it to bring it up to scratch a little. Please lose the plastic flowers and plastic palms in the courtyard. Also, too many posters around the place. I am starting to sound like Alex Polizzi, the Hotel Inspector. However, she is right. The whole hotel is spoiled by all the bric-a-brac on the walls. Plain is so much better, and, less work for the cleaning staff. Reviewers on TripAdvisor mention the staff and their lack of English. I would disagree. Yes, English wasn't their native language but they spoke it reasonably well. The service they gave was excellent and, maybe it was us, they were extremely friendly and chatty. All in all, a pleasant nights stay. It seems that I am 'knocking' the hotel but this isn't true as £55 WAS a good deal
