I never leave negative reviews but this was ridiculous. My husband and I took his client here for a retirement dinner. They never brought our table bread and the service was slow bringing our orders out. Those things I can overlook but what got me was the ink wasn't even dry on the $300 bill when the waitress rushed over and told us she needs our table for the next reservation, in so many words telling us to get the hell out. We all just looked at each other in disbelief. What a rude way to end the evening. Doesn't matter how good the food was that alone left a bad taste in our mouths to ruin the experience and for that we will not be back. read more

My book club had a reservation for our Christmas outing in December, but unfortunately, we had to cancel when someone got the flu. I called to reschedule our reservation and the person on the phone said it was fine and he'd move it. he didn't take my information, but I assumed he already had it from the initial reservation. Stopped in for a post holiday lunch. We tried the soup of the day (Cream of Broccoli), Side Salad, Meatball Appetizer, Meatball Panini, Scones, Gelato and Espresso. Everything was absolutely delicious. The meatballs and sauce were perfect and the bread with Fresh Mozzarella and Pesto was so crusty and slightly browned. Yum! A very homey Italian place located in the north hills. Very unassuming place as it located in a small neighborhood you could easily miss it. We ordered some takeout paninis, arancini and some small pastries that had available. The arancini was pretty good, but the sauce they placed it in was superb. Typically im not as much of a fan of the red sauces, but this one was licked clean. The Italian panini was excellent, packed with flavor and the bread was toasted to perfection and is of homemade quality. I would liek to try some of their other ones as well as my wife's looked quite good as well. The desserts were really good as well, im not sure if its a rotating selection but they have small pastries, cakes and gelato. This will definitely be in the rotation for takeout lunches from now on. read more

Sadly we don't live very close to Severina, but that doesn't stop us from driving by to get some favorites to go. This is a non negotiable for us. It's always John's arancini. They're perfectly cooked, creamy and light. But people... the sauce. The marinara is just so good I could eat it alone, with a spoon and a glass of wine. Oh goodness YUM!! I went here about 2 years ago and loved it. I couldn't wait to bring my husband and friends back to experience the food.and atmosphere. I had reservations for 6 on a Saturday night. It was super busy and we were told to wait for about 10 minutes. No big deal but they seated us outside and there was only one waiter who was swamped. It took about 20 minutes for our drinks after he threw our place setting down tin the middle of the table. The bread came out on a teacup plate. He said he'd bring more later but never did. They don't do pizza for dinner anymore so we all ordered some sort of pasta. It was just ok. Nothing I would go back for and portions were small. No one asked to refill our drinks. We asked about dessert and he told us to walk inside to look at the case?? I don't ever complain about service, I know it's tough but I was so embarrassed that I suggested the place. A Mixed Bag: Great Food, Disappointing Service I've dined at this quaint, family-owned Italian restaurant four times over the past few years, drawn back each time by the quality of the food, which is consistently excellent--thoughtfully prepared, flavorful, and clearly made with care. The cozy atmosphere and charm of the space hint at a dining experience that should be something special. However, each visit has been marred by the same set of service-related frustrations. The service is often indifferent at best, with staff seeming annoyed, especially toward those who aren't recognized as regulars. There's a notable inconsistency in the way diners are treated--some patrons receive warm, attentive service and menu suggestions, while others are overlooked. Menu publishing is another ongoing issue. On more than one occasion, the full menu wasn't available or not finalized when we were seated, causing confusion and delays both in ordering and in the kitchen. Compounding this, not all listed menu items are consistently offered to all guests--I've witnessed neighboring tables being offered specials or off-menu dishes that were never mentioned to mine. Also, apparently pizza is only available for dine-in during lunch although it is available for take out during dinner hours. Our table seriously considered placing an on-line takeout order for pizza as we witnessed many being picked up after waiting nearly an hour for our entrees. It's frustrating, because the food is worth returning for. But the experience as a whole feels unwelcoming and uneven unless you're part of the in-crowd. I genuinely want to love this place, and I've given it multiple chances, but the pattern of disparate treatment is hard to ignore. This Italian style eatery is petite inside and has nice size patio outside. When just walking up to this establishment, the smells are amazing! No wait at all as it was just the start of dinner time, just a few customers here. As we sat and waited this placed piled in with the customers quickly. I will say, sadly they can't offer booster/high chairs for toddlers/babies. I felt sad that my son could disturb everyone else since he had more room to move or being held in our laps wiggling every time he could while being a baby. As the group of 4 next to us asked to be moved after sitting less then 15 mins. Hopefully they can accommodate littles one in the future. Started with Arancini, and meatballs. They both were sooo good!! Arancini was creamy and fried to perfection. Meatballs were moist and taste to satisfactory. Main course was build our own pizza, that included onions, banana peppers, pepperoni, and sausage. Pizza was bomb!! Peppers were too spicy for us but gave good flavor anyway when not eaten directly. Great Italian food. If you only go for the authentic Italian deserts, its totally worth it. The staff treats you like family. They even got us in with only a short wait for Valentines Day without a reservation and it was packed. You can tell the food is 100 % authentic. We're from a neighboring state and will go back anytime we're in the area. We got two deserts to go ( Tiramisu and the giant Cream Puff ). I wouldn't come here starving - definitely have a snack before because it took about an hour to get our appetizer and then another 30 min to get our entrees. We were there about 2 hours total. The food was very, very good. I got the Italian Panini and it was fantastic. The bread was nice and crunchy, and the meats and cheeses combined perfectly. My boyfriend got the Prosciutto panini and I honestly preferred that one (not pictured). The thick cut of mozzarella on it was so good and there was a balsamic glaze in there that just took the flavor to the next level. I tried a slice of the pizza and it was pretty good too. The food was absolutely delicious. Arancini was the best I've had, and while whipped ricotta is on all the small plates menus right now, Severina's had a vibrant lemon flavor that set it apart. The roasted red pepper pasta was perfectly creamy and wonderful as well, and for dessert, I thoroughly enjoyed the chocolate cappuccino crunch cake. Stopped for the 2nd time for dinner. It's a small place with quaint, clean decor. Staff is friendly but may not be as quick as you would like. Once you place your order, you're gonna wait sometimes for almost an hour, but I promise the food is amazing and worth it. This evening, I had fettuccine with clam sauce, and it was the best I have ever had. The desserts melt in your mouth amazing. So don't get mad or discouraged for the wait it is well worth it. Note if you plan on taking small children.... this isn't the place for you. It is going to take a while for your food and they will get bored. For everyone else's sanity, just don't. Tremendous first experience here and lucky to have this nearly in my back yard! Ordered the hot sausage stuffed peppers for a starter. Delicious! The sausage was ground extra fine which I enjoyed. The Italian meat calzone was large and delicious from meat to dough, but the star was the ricotta as it felt extra whipped and airy. Service was great. This place has excellent food, and that's what keeps us coming back. It's a touch loud inside, but if the weather is cooperating, you might be able to get a table outside to make up for it. Why no 5 stars? The service here is absolutely ABYSMAL! I get it. They're busy. But you know what to do in that situation? You hire more people. The severs are too busy to make eye contact because they're furiously running food orders or taking orders at other tables. Need something? Too bad. Want another round of drinks? Not interested. Went to dinner with my family at Severina's at the recommendation of a family friend. Such a small hidden gem in West View. Definitely recommend it to all who enjoy a nice Italian meal. We got the wings as an appetizer and they were great, had a nice crispy crust on them and the mild sauce was good. I ordered the prosciutto panini and it was out of this world. The pizza was decent, the crust was the best part. I do have to be honest and mention that the entire staff did an okay job of servicing us. The place is small and to my perspective it seemed to be under staffed. The food did take awhile to come out but the wait was totally worth it. The minor inconvenience will not deter me from coming back or recommending the place to others. read more

I stopped by here a couple of Saturday's ago with my wife for gelato. We had actually tried to stop by on a Sunday the week before but they are closed on that day. Both my wife and I had been wanting to try Severina since it had opened as we had both watched it getting built during the pandemic. The inside of this shop is cozy with a gelato display case, a coffee bar and then a couple of coolers full of a nice selection of beer. On this day my wife and I went there for the gelato and were told the flavors that they had. I was lucky in snapping up the very last scoop of toasted coconut while my wife went with the mint chocolate chip. Then as I was heading over to pay for the gelato we saw a display case with some goodies and we ended up ordering a cannoli for my wife as well. The seating here is located outside and that's where my wife and I enjoyed our gelato, saving the cannoli for later. My toasted coconut gelato ended up being really good as the gelato was creamy and tasty and the flavor of real toasted coconut was at the forefront. The idea to toast the coconut really gave it a nice depth of flavor and made it significantly better than if it had not been toasted. My wife also really enjoyed her gelato and at a later time the cannoli noting how creamy the cannoli filling was. The bottom line for me is that I would head back here again in the future. Our gelato was good and I look forward to trying Severina for both coffee and pizza. read more

Every single thing I had here right down to the side salad and garlic bread was INCREDIBLE! We got the Arancini & Burrata for appetizers and I got the chicken Parmesan, side salad, and Millefoglie for dessert (my mouth is watering just thinking about it). My friend got the halibut which was super fresh and cooked perfectly au beurre. For drinks I got Il vecchio, Persephone, and a mezcal based cocktail. All of them were presented beautifully from their brand new bar. Service from the bar was fantastic! I never ran out of water and the drinks came out very quickly! Went to Severina for the first time and was pleasantly surprised by this little gem. It was too cold to sit outside, so we sat inside where it an be a bit noisy. We had the Scampi and Aranci for Antipasto. The arancini had only cheese in it and was very good as was the sauce. We followed it with a Margarita pizza and caffe duppio and house-made sfogliatelle for dolce. All were excellent and we will be back. The Pizza was good but not my favorite, so next time, we'll order a pasta course or maybe the veal. Although a bit overwhelmed, the staff is professional, polite and patient. Overall, Severina's is a solid addition to Pittsburgh's transitioning Italian restaurant scene and we're going to add it to our rotation. A week ago, we tried the deliciously creamy gelato at Severina and loved it. Today we had takeout for dinner from there. My husband is very tough on meatballs because his mother makes such delicious homemade meatballs. He really enjoyed the soft, flavorful meatballs on amazing bread with pesto. He's lactose intolerant. Whenever he requests his sandwiches plain, no one ever respects it and always puts the cheese on it. They thankfully got it right and checked to make sure before he left, which was really nice. My mom and I shared a 12 cut pizza. The dough was definitely homemade and so good. We liked the sauce and our toppings. I was happy that they let us have half with pepperoni and half with roasted red peppers. We really enjoyed it. Next time, I'm going to try the prosciutto and mozzarella sandwich. read more

Absolutely fabulous dinner the other night at this small spot tucked away in West View. Three of us popped in at 8pm (they close at 9pm), and the restaurant was hopping. They smartly have you pass by the mouthwatering dessert case before you hit the restaurant proper. No rez, but they had a 4-top free, thank goodness. Truly, save maybe one other 4-top, there wasn't an unoccupied table in the house. There's a few spots at a bar on the far wall in the dining room. The place has a lively atmosphere, not too loud, but definitely not dark and quiet/romantic. Certainly, we saw a number of dates happening around us, tho. We really liked the energetic vibe. The stone pizza oven means there's quite a selection of pies, but we really wanted pasta and boy did this place deliver. Each entrée comes with a small salad, so I decided to forgo a Caesar. But there are a few salads on the menu, as well. We started with arancini, because we were starving, and the cheesy, creamy,crunchy yumminess on a pool of tangy marinara had us all swooning. Fresh homemade bread delivered hot from the oven with incredibly tasty butter topped with flecks of sea salt (we also asked for EVOO for dipping, which they happily gave us in a large bowl) really hit the spot. We were, perhaps, a little full ahead of the GIANT bowls of pasta arriving - but who cares! It's Italian - there are always leftovers - thanks be! I ordered the mushroom carbonara, which was so full of creamy, cheesy yummy flavor. It was all I hoped it would be. My sister-in-law ordered our server's favorite - the Bolognese - and it really delivered. Possibly some of the best Bolognese I've had in years. My husband, as always, got the sausage and peppers w/ penne. Now, the server warned us that the Bolognese might be spicy (it really wasn't), but there was no warning that the sausage and peppers was packin serious heat - you could actually smell the fiery spice when the bowl was placed on the table! My husband that said once he got off the top layer - fire shooting out of his ears - the bottom layers had very little heat, making him think that someone threw on a bunch of hot pepper flakes on the top before the dish came out. He said he definitely could've done without that addition, if that was the case. Either way, the sausage was really flavorful as were the peppers. Though we were all stuffed beyond measure, one of the members of the family, who I think owns the restaurant highly recommended his favorite dessert - one that he had made that day - the goat cheese cheesecake. OMGGGGG --- it was thick and caramelly and crrrrazy good. We attacked that one poor piece of cake like it was the last food in the desert! SO SO good. It's a bit of a trek to get to for us (we were up near this area for a Xmas candlelight tour), but we DEFINITELY will be back....and soon. read more
