I think this place has some of the best coffee in the area. The espresso is rich yet fruity and is perfect in every drink somehow. I have yet to find a place as simple yet delicious. The beans are roasted locally! The syrups here are not usually made in house, so i often think their drinks are best with no additional flavors with the exception of a sugar-free vanilla mocha (one of my favorites). They use quality ingredients everywhere else, though I cannot recommend their matcha..at all. Your experience may differ depending on the barista, but as long as you know what you like, you can usually have a good cup. read more

Super cute little cafe! Convive offers a nice range of beverages. They've got a decent selection of pastries, allergen friendly as well which is lovely to see! I came in looking for a hot tea, and asked what tea's they had. Black and hibiscus iced tea's were offered, so I chose the hibiscus. It was light on flavor and refreshing! After looking at the menu just now I saw that they do have hot tea as well, so next time I will be more specific. It's a neat place and worth checking out if you're in the area! read more

I stopped by here two Sunday's ago with my wife and our twins for our morning coffee. Every Sunday morning we try to hit up a new local coffee shop and on this morning we decided to go to convive coffee. This was actually the second time that we were at this location in McCandless Crossing. It's in the middle of a collection of strip mall shops and has parking out front. The inside has concrete floors with a bunch of seating and then a coffee bar to order from with a pastry case. It all feels a little cramped to me and beyond the indoor seating they also have a couple of two tops outside which seem to be very close to the door. For my coffee on this morning I decided to go with a 20 oz hot Americano while my wife went with a 16 oz iced coconut mocha. I added a splash of cream to my americano before I left. My coffee here ended up tasting pretty good as you could tell that the beans were fresh. They had a good rich flavor and the espresso to water ratio was good in that the coffee was very much the star and not watered down. My wife also enjoyed her coconut mocha here. The bottom line for me is that I would head back here again in the future. While convive is not the cheapest coffee shop around, their coffee always tastes freshly roasted and I usually enjoy it. read more

Super cute spot with a straightforward coffee menu. Sometimes at places I get overwhelmed by the 800 flavors and 200 roasts and on and on. I came in, ordered a lavender latte, and left with an amazing latte. The barista was super nice and had a legit smile that was so genuine on her face when she took your order and delivered your drink. I stopped at Convive before work to grab a hot drink. I was hopeful they had options other than coffee and was pleased to see they did! Upon entrance the place felt very "cold." The perk of this is the shop was very clean, but it almost felt unwelcoming. I ordered my chai latte with almond milk and was not surprised when my total was almost $5, but I do feel that's a little pricey. In addition, the male barista did not seem very welcoming. He did not smile or try to make any small talk, which is what I usually expect at a coffee shop (maybe it's just me?!). As for the chai latte, it had a bit too much spice and not enough milk for me. When I order a latte, I prefer that it's creamy; however, this latte tasted like a plain chai tea. It's simultaneously modern, relaxed, elegant and simple. A long stained-wood bench dominates the long, well-lit space with just enough tables and chairs to be comfortable and never too crowded. With power under the seats, you can charge your device as you finish your drink. The coffee is... good? Honestly, they've got a lot of eclectic flavors and I haven't found my perfect fit yet, but I know the quality is there because the coffee snobbery is at that Master level if you ask the right questions. We had a really nice afternoon stop here last weekend while hopping around Ross. We tried two fun sounding lattes: grapefruit thyme and honey cayenne tea. The honey cayenne had been recommended to me by a friend, who told me they used lapsang souchong, my favorite tea! It was really warm and cozy, with the smoky tea, spicy cayenne, and smooth honey working together really well! The grapefruit thyme was a nice drink as well. The citrus flavor definitely came through and the thyme wasn't too strong or overpowering. A well balanced drink. We didn't try any snacks, but they looked to have an assortment of pastries. I am really excited this business exists in the North Hills. We went in to try their coffee and were really pleased with the service and knowledge the staff offered. My husband ordered a pour over and one of the employees happily and very knowledgeably explained each variety of beans available so he could make a decision. I simply ordered a mocha since I'm always looking for a good mocha. The mocha had the right balance of chocolate to coffee taste. Many times a mocha tastes of a very bitter dark chocolate, but this had a very smooth and mild almost milk chocolate taste. A very delicious drink. The pour over hot and tasty too. The interior is bright, open, and relaxing. There were a group of moms meeting there in the back corner, and nearly all the tables in the front were busy with people working. This is a good place. It's located smack in the center of a busy shopping complex, so parking can get a dicey depending on the time of day. Convive makes good use of their small space, and the aesthetic of the shop is clean and nice. The coffee is roasted in-house, and they pull a tasty shot. I've picked up some bags of beans before for my V60 at home and am always happy. Their baked goods are quite tasty too. Prices are pretty average for a major metro area, though a few specialty drinks are...well...once-a-year prices for me. They don't have a ton of seating, but what they have is nice--a church pew against the wall with some tables set up along it, plus some comfy chairs scattered near the rear entrance. There are also a few tables outside for one of those few non-gross Pittsburgh days (I saw some nice doggos out there and highly recommend these seats.) One minor--yet noticeable--problem: there is free wi-fi, but more than a half-dozen people really bogs the system down. I stopped by on a bank holiday to get some writing done and spent the whole time reconnecting to the wireless. There are outlets hidden around the place too, but a few don't work or are too hard to reach. While this isn't my go-to coffee shop in the North Hills area, this is where I go when my go-to isn't open or I'm shopping nearby. It's not perfect, but the coffee is good enough that I keep going back. read more

I've been wanting to go here for awhile and after a friend went it reminded me to stop in. I was excited to try it out and have to say, I love the decor of this place. Orchids are everywhere which in my opinion is pretty cool. I really like industrial looks as well. The shop is fairly small and going around 11a on a Sunday, it got pretty busy. Still, I was able to comfortably find a spot in the corner and quietly play some Nintendo DS. All while enjoying a Cold Brew Nitro which, wasn't bad but wasn't great either. All of this said, the experience could have been better if not for the service which another reviewer mentioned. When I got there and said it was my first time here, what do you suggest? The barista literally said to me, "I don't know man, coffee? What do you normally get at coffee shops?" It was off putting to say the least and the excitement I had started fading fast. When I said I enjoy cold brew he the told me, I can get you that on nitro. Just to end the awkwardness I went with that but would have maybe liked a little more welcoming attitude. I still don't know what is the go to here or what they are known for. That's what I was looking for. Also, I'm holding a tablet in my hands and didn't even get a mention about WiFi or anything. Like I said, I'm sure this place has a lot to offer and I see a lot of potential but sure didn't feel welcome to learn about any of it on this trip (my first). I stopped in here after a waste recycling event over at North Park pool. When I entered I saw a very similar huge drip decanter that I previously had seen at Addas. I asked about it and learned that they were still working on it and not up and running yet. This place has all types of coffees, lattes, expressos, tea, pour overs, etc along with home made baked goods. They told me they make them in house. They looked inviting but I wasn't hungry at the moment so just wanted a cup of coffee. I could have either their house blend or today's feature was called "Congo". Yes you can sample them since they have coffee decanters near the fixings bar. I was very impressed with Congo since it had a bit of a fruity citrus taste and ordered that. I learned from them if you order an actual "cup" not paper then you can have unlimited refills. Great deal if you plan to hang out there for a while especially in a downpour. I ordered a small cup and sat down in their lounge area. This coffee was "smooth" good! No grinds at the bottom of the cup. They know how to brew here! I did notice that some of the people who ordered lattes had that same milk design on top which I had seen in other coffee shops in Shadyside and East Liberty. Free WiFi is available. Code is written on the wall. They were a couple of people playing chess and I noticed that they had other children's toys as well. Yes, it has a gender neutral restroom. I saw a board there called "pay it forward". I inquired about that board and learned that it is designed to offer whatever you wish to purchase to anyone of your choice. What you would do is purchase the item, they will fill out on cardboard what you purchased, and then you can select whomever you wanted to give it to. You then can pin it to the wall for folks to read. Whatever the person pulls gets the item since it was already paid for. As I was glancing at the board I noticed a lot of them included coffee beans which are expensive here as well as coffee, tea, lattes, etc. They are normally made out to people with handicappers or disabilities or those with a serious illness. I felt reluctant to pull any of those since they were earmarked for that type of individual. I was asking why the coffee beans were so expensive. He told me that made fresh in the actual country. Yes they will grind them for you for free but if you have a grinder then it is best to by them whole and use them with your coffeemaker as soon as possible. As always make sure if you are buying them to store them in a cool dry place tightly sealed. This shop is a wonderful addition to the North Hills and since I don't get out here that often will give me reason to come back and check out more of McCandless Crossing. I am most anxious to learn more about this store as well as their brews and coffee imports. Located off McKnight Road in McCandless it sits next to a cupcake store and very close to BJs restaurant. read more
