Nice looking bar, pool table and nice amount of seats as well as a TV's. The service was terrible. Rex was cordial and took care of our tables, he was one of the servers/bartenders. But his manager was TERRIBLE! We didn't catch his name, unfortunately... We had a large group, maybe 15 in total. We had young and old in our party and had three to four tables. They typically don't do table service and make you order from the bar, drinks and food. However, Rex did a great job accommodating a few of our parents who are older. We had a family member in our group who had a cough. The manager came over and stood in front of us all and said, "you have to leave!" You are contaminating our bar and you all have to leave. He is not sick and simply had a deep cough. He has been evaluated a number of times and has been told by FP& ENT, he has been using his vocal cords too much and has caused him to have a cough. He stayed between our tables and there weren't many others in the bar. We basically had most of the bar to ourselves. We asked if he was kidding and he said, no, you must leave our bar. Honestly felt like he is a hypochondriac, and probably shouldn't be in the bartending or management position. I stayed at the Omni Hotel for business and truly wish I had eaten more often on site here at the Severin Bar!! Service is extremely friendly and the bartenders make a mean cosmo. On my last night I had dinner at the bar and it was fantastic. The smashed burger with house made truffle potato chips and a lovely romaine salad with a unique dusting of truffle seasoning. For dessert I had their bread pudding, it was too notch with the most flavorful vanilla ice cream I have ever had. Definitely will be eating there more often on future stays at the Omni. read more

Frequenting hotel bars is not my scene, no judgment to those that do, but it's just not a habit I have ever gotten into. Randomly I had a friend who wanted to go out one weeknight: and since she's a mom and being invited places is fun. I decided to go. We were down south and and had some delicious food then came back downtown to stop at one place for a beer, unfortunately those taps tasted dirty and she suggested the Severin bar. I was impressed with the interior, although I don't frequent hotel bars there is a certain appeal to them. there was a crowd which is great for anyplace, and I believe this was for the American legion convention if I can gather from the shirts. We grabbed a small table and hung out. Our server was friendly and knowledgeable! I had a delicious gin martini, and then it was suggested that I try pink gin! This place is an unbelievable rip off. I just paid $9.27 for a can of beer, not including the tip. The menu doesn't even specify which beers are draught and which are cans. Worse, when I walked in they were showing a hockey playoff game on one TV and some random TV show with the sound off. I asked to watch a baseball game instead of the show. When one bartender asked what channel it's on, I told her MLB network and she replied, "That doesn't really help me." She did figure out how to switch it over, but after several minutes they switched all 3 sets to hockey (the fourth screen appears to be broken). I asked her what happened to baseball and she said, "I have no idea." I asked the other bartender if there is any reason they can't show both and he said, "Don't be so passive aggressive." My "once a year visit" happened again this year (GenCon) and I must say a huge THANK YOU to the Severin staff and the Omni Hotel. You all really are my favorite place to drink, dine, play a free game of billiards, and eat during the convention. (Mostly because it isn't standing-room-only and the staff at Severin really does an excellent job - good tunes too!) Severin has the best bacon-deviled-eggs around, (we got like 5 orders of them), and the cheddar cheese biscuits are also a very filling super yummy option! The BBQ and Buffalo chicken wings were filling and an excellent choice. In addition to that, (on more than one visit), I also had the filet with mashed potatoes and some of the very best garlic asparagus I've ever eaten. My buddy also enjoyed the Old School Burger. The drinks are always on point, and there are tons of TVs with whatever channel/game/movie you're interested in. For the last 5 years, we've been coming to Indy for CANvitational. For the last 3, we've been hitting up Severin Bar afterwards. This year we were staying at the Omni, which made this even better, but Severin Bar never disappoints. I'm pretty sure our bartender this time was Chris (at least that's the name I recall) and he was awesome. Great playlist, very friendly, put up with my drunken nonsense and made some delicious cocktails. Also, he was just fun to talk to! Every year, the day before CANvitational, they seem to put some beers on tap and you're lucky if you get them by Saturday. I'm pretty sure all the brewers/reps stay at the hotel, which probably explains why some kick so fast, but this is why we head here after the fest. Their 3 little pigs flatbread is everything you want after a fest. We've tried a few different items and have yet to be disappointed. My friends and I chose this place for Devour cause we had never been there before and it seemed pretty good from the menu! We parked in the mall parking and walked over, not an issue. We sat down and were told a few different times that someone would be there to help us. ...ten minutes later and no one. Not even water or menus. In a situation where it's a Friday evening and its slammed and short-staffed, I understand. On a Tuesday evening when there's only 4 groups in the place? Not acceptable. We're finally greeted by someone who gives us menus and then we're left again. Finally our server comes and explains the menu. We ask her a question that needs to be addressed before we order, and she just awkwardly stands there till we tell her she needs to ask before we make our minds up. (By this time already, we're contemplating going to a new restaurant but she came back just in time to change our minds.) The server then requires that one of us put a credit card down to have on file .... We found that really weird since we were dining in and getting food. We order and try a few beer samples. The samples are good, not great, so we order our drinks. I do appreciate that they gave us an option to switch out the one vegetarian option with another, more appealing (at the time) option. We ordered the spicy corn fritters and they were good! We then got the quinoa burgers and chips and by God, it was one of the worst burgers I've ever had. Imagine the taste of quinoa....that's what the entire burger tasted like. No spices. No flavor. Nothing. Quinoa. Thank goodness there were toppings to save the taste. The chips served on the side were good, thankfully! At this time; we had a new server walking around and my friend attempted to get her water refilled close to half a dozen times before she finally got her attention. Out came the dessert. We visited here on a Sunday and it was our first visit. The interior of the fairly new Severin Bar is really nice and inviting. We opted to sit at the bar. They have $3 local draft beers on Sundays, so I had my favorite, the Flat 12 IPA. We also ordered a Manhattan, which was presented well and a generous serving. Service at the bar was prompt and frequent. For food, we ordered the following: Local Duck Fritters: Generous portion and tasty. I only tried a small bite of one fritter and while I enjoyed it, I think they are definitely for sharing. I could not eat more than one. Indiana Board: Generous portion of lovely meats, cheeses, pickled veggies and herbed like crackers. While this was presented well on the board, it was not presented well by the server. Anywhere else that serves meat and cheese boards, like Ball and Biscuit or Traders Point Creamery, will introduce the board and explain the meats, cheeses, etc. We really didn't know what we were eating, unfortunately. Also, placing the pickled veggies next to the crackers made the crackers a little soggy. Local Greens Salad: The blend in this salad was very tasty, but I thought the portion was small. It isn't a side salad. It is a dinner salad and a dinner salad should be bigger, in my opinion. Quinoa Veggie Burger: This came with chips and we asked if we could substitute something for the chips. Among our options, we chose brussels sprouts. Not only did we still get the chips, but we were charged $5 for what appeared to be steamed brussels sprouts that were just okay. The quinoa veggie burger was not good at all. We ordered it without the bun and it was very dry. I cannot image how dry it would be with the bun. The food came out pretty slow. We were the only people at the bar and there were two other tables with one person sitting at them, then a big party of 8-10 in the corner that appeared to only be drinking. Overall, the service was great (sans Indiana Board presentation and confusion over substituting chips for something else). The environment was great. Drinks were great. I was really looking forward to coming here for Devour last night. My friends and I were trying to decide on a place to go and I suggested Severin. I had read some good reviews and the menu offered a veggie option and drinks so I thought we'd give it a shot. We parked in the mall garage and went through a maze to get to the Omni (only to later find out that we could have had complimentary valet since we were there for Devour) We finally walked into Severin and were really digging the atmosphere - Brick and wood walls, 12 tv's, a pool table, dim lighting, etc. It wasn't busy and so we had plenty of options of where to sit; we chose a hightop table in the middle of the bar. We had been sitting for quite awhile without a menu or waters. A few people had greeted us, but no one seemed to care that we didn't have a server yet. The place wasn't busy and we had seen about 5 servers behind the bar so we were getting pretty frustrated. We finally get menus and ask for some water. We were handed a Devour menu and their regular menu. Since there were three of us we were trying to figure out how to order because the Devour option is 2 for $35. We were told that 1 person could get the same option for $25, but we didn't think that would be worth it so one of us ordered off the regular menu. We asked our server what was on draft and she had no idea. She finally comes back and just mentions the style of beer, she doesn't say the names. We ended up just looking at her paper with the names because she didn't look like she knew what she was talking about. The draft beer they had wasn't the best. We had asked for samples and after trying 4 we finally decided what to order. I was glad that we were able to get the samples because the initial beer I was planning on ordering wasn't that good so I'm really happy I sampled it first. While we were sampling beers, our server asked us to put a card down. We all were super confused by this since we were dining in, but I went ahead and gave her my card. Is this normal? For our appetizer we ordered the Spicy Corn Fritters. They were pretty delicious! We had asked if we could substitute the Devour Portobello veggie burger to their Quinoa burger and were able to. We later realized that was probably a huge mistake. The burgers come out and they didn't look bad. Unfortunately, it was bland. It did come with chips and they were pretty delicious, but who can get full from chips?! For dessert we were given two twinkies. I didn't even try it because it didn't look very appetizing and after seeing the expression on my friends face after taking a bite, I'm thankful I didn't try it! The tenderloin sliders looked very good but were a little inedible, the actual meat was very thin and rough, making it hard to even bite through it. We probably didn't pick the right night to try it out, as it was apparently prom night (the sequins--oh, God, the sequins), but we got a reservation and were seated right away. The service started out pretty good but went downhill quickly, especially considering we basically had two servers. Perhaps because we were only a table of two, we were pushed to the side; there were a few larger parties in the restaurant that took priority. Dinner seemed to take longer than it should--especially when it got down to paying the bill. Fiance ordered a club sandwich, and I ordered a lobster roll. Both came with a very small pile of fries, a bowl of coleslaw, and a pickle. Report was that the club sandwich was quite good (and I can corroborate on the bacon--YUM). The lobster roll was somewhat disappointing. A fair amount of lobster was in the roll, but there was still too much bread and not enough flavor. Dare I say that I prefer Red Lobster's offering to this? The coleslaw and pickle were both good and the fries were mediocre. I had a pomegranate martini which was pretty good, but didn't match up to La Scala's in downtown Lafayette. The creme brulee was tasty, though it was disappointing to not be able to crack the sugary surface--the ramekin was too shallow. (No, I don't think this is picky. That's one of the joys of creme brulee!) As for the ambience, don't expect much. The restaurant is right up against the hotel lobby, without any buffer for noise. As I noted previously, the prom crowd didn't much help the situation, but it seemed to be an otherwise average night and the noise (and televisions) verged on the distracting. We started our night off here and there were some business men working on their laptops and and a few people watching sports. There was a concert in town and a lot of people came to this bar after, and even though they were pretty packed-the service was still very quick. Im a little biased because I work so close to this spot and have been frequenting it ever since it opened. I thought Olives the old Cigar bar had a nice thing with it, but the vibe in the new bar is definitely more inviting and modern. Although the modern look is a bit old prohibition style which I love. The cocktails they offer are a bit over my head and I like to try a new one every once in awhile but I am extremely pleased at all of the local beers they feature. I love that indy is embracing this new Craft beer movement and I hope it continues. Their taps are always rotating which is nice. Another new feature to the bar is the number of tv's they've added which is at least 10, and the seating at the bar and away from it is pretty damn comfortable. As far as food goes? You can order from a few awesome appetizers they feature in the restaurant, but seem to be more popular in the bar. I must recommend the bacon on a stick. DELICIOUS and I'm not even that big of a bacon fan. In Summary, I love that this bar doesn't have a Hotel Feel to it even though it is located inside and operated by the Hotel. I went here after the Colts playoff game the other day. It was nice enough, relatively inexpensive drinks and food. I only got the short rib sliders and the Reuben Appetizers. Both were filling, of course they could have been better (from the Reuben perspective, I think more cold cut was needed). My big complaint is they had Nachos on their "after the game" menu, but when I went there....after the game....they said they stop serving it at 1 (isn't that BEFORE the game!?) I must start out this review by correcting the previous (and only other reviewer named Kristen) in that they were probably reviewing the restaurant in the hotel, and NOT The Severin Bar, which was newly opened and remodeled and features all things vintage, Hoosier and fabulous. It has an entrance through the hotel, obviously, but, also an entrance right on Jackson St. That being said, If you have not been here yet, you need to go. Pre prohibition era cocktails and beers on draft from Sun King, Flat 12, Triton Upland and more!! Cheese plate from Indiana farms, as well as a Smoking Goose Meatery plate that is out of this world!! The Cheese plate has a jam made with Sun Kings'WEE Mac Beer! It is unbelievably good and I think I want to take a bath in it. "The vibe" is sports bar but very classy, with a unique twist of vintage and modern. A lot of places like this scoff at even having TVs on , much less sports, but they have figured out a way to have both and make it work in an interesting and new way. There are some other great sandwiches and snacks on the menu that are also locally sourced, and some great specials including a Hoosier Mama Bloody Mary Bar for $5 on Sundays. I don't know how the food is but this is a pretty great little bar when all of downtown Indy is swamped to duck into. There's always been a couple of seats at the bar together and the drink prices are pretty reasonable. I do believe the bartenders pour generously. read more

Severin came to a Yelp event and showed off their open faced pork slider on pretzel bread. It came with some caramelized onions and Wee Mac beer "caviar" which was fun to watch them make. It was the perfect size although could have used a plate since it was a bit messy but it was a delicious mess. I will have to stop by their actual bar to try out their drinks but if they are as good as this dish, we should get along famously. read more
