Yummy Friday lunch! The food as always was good and I had so much I needed a to go box. Our waitress Kami was attentive and sweet. There's nothing like a beautifully restored cafe and hotel to make an ordinary day extra special.

Stopped by for lunch just to se the inside of the hotel. I really appreciate efforts to restore and preserve older buildings. You could almost see the history as soon as you walk in. The salmon was cooked perfectly with great flavor. The pasta was very good and the greens were spot on and seasoned well. Definitely worth a stop in you're in Big Spring. Service was also very attentive.

    I even loved the flatware.

Big Springs is a town in oil rig country, so you can drive for a while and not see many towns of noteworthy populations. But, Big Springs is a good sized town. From a distance you can see Settles Hotel. Its the tallest building in town, and it is full of surprises. It is old world beautiful inside, with dramatic stairs, ballrooms, bountiful flower arrangements, many lovely paintings and photographs. We were delighted with our parlor room. There was a walk in closet equipped with bathrobes. We had a tv in the palor (with it's own door) and the bedroom (also with it's own door, and comfy beds). The bathroom was beautiful and pristine. I loved the old fashion fixtures. The staff was super friendly. Make sure you eat in the grill and bar. You will not be disappointed!

    The perfect chicken-fried steak meal

The restaurant is inside the historic Hotel Settles in Big Spring. The building is stunningly beautiful, so the food had a lot to live up to. And it did! The chicken-fried steak was comfort food at its finest. Sides of green beans and mashed potatoes did not come from a can. Pair this with friendly, attentive service, and you get five well-deserves stars! Don't just zip past Big Spring on I-20, stop in and eat!

Almost no weekend choices, so we're here for 3rd or 4th time and this was worst. Service is only good part. Samantha personable and attentive. When the app of fried pickles arrived quickly and very hot we thought we were in for a good meal, but we were sorely disappointed. Food took a very, very long time to arrive- hubs eggs had definitely been under heat lamp. His "Big Tex" meal was neither big nor Texan- small portion, quite dry and he couldn't even bring himself to eat the sausage. Fail. Sadly, even Wendy's would have been better. Not recommended

Decent food, liked the atmosphere, nice staff. Was hoping for a little more flavor. Homemade ice cream was good.

So, my Lovely Wife, knowing that I Love Cheeseburgers, suggested that we have my Birthday Lunch in Robert Lee. So, we did just that and met up with Joe at "Another Place Cafe". My Wife and I arrived a little past what we scheduled, but close enough. Joe was already inside, enjoying a cup of coffee. Another Place Cafe, from the outside, looks like a hole-in-the-wall type, but inside it's done up nicely. Joe had a Birthday gift for me, all wrapped. I opened it, and it was a model of a Volkswagen Bus, with flames - pretty cool. I will add this to my collection of model cars in the office. Don't remember who our server was, and it's not on the receipt. Joe ordered a basket of hand battered Large Onion Rings, served with Ranch for us to share. My Wife ordered the "Grilled Cheese Sandwich"; three slices of cheese, 2 American and 1 Swiss, on lightly buttered grilled bread, and a side of Large Onion Rings. Joe is having the "Chicken Strips" served with a bowl of Creamy Gravy, and two sides, choosing Mashed Potatoes and Fried Okra. I am going with what I mentioned, their "Double-Cheeseburger"; Two 1/2 pound Seasoned Patties & Two slices of American Cheese, with Lettuce, Tomato, Pickles, and sauce on a Soft Hamburger Bun. Choose Sweet Potato Fries as my side. My drink is Diet Dr Pepper. Orders are in, and our basket of Large Onion Rings has arrived. They are Golden Brown with a nice crunch and a very fresh onion ring with nice flavor. They are Delicious and a very nice ranch to dip them into. This place is pretty busy and has some great write-ups. Soon our food arrived, and Joe's Chicken Strips are Golden Brown and HUGE, and look perfectly breaded. They must be delicious because he ate all of them. My Wife enjoyed her Grilled Cheese Sandwich, and I drooled over my Double-Cheeseburger. It is evenly stacked up high with a couple of nice-sized patties covered with cheese. Took my first bite and this is Yummlicious, with a perfect balance of Cheese to these patties. A Huge slice of Tomato with lots of Lettuce and 4 Pickles that add that inside crunch. This is a great tasting Cheeseburger, and I see why Joe recommended this. My Sweet Potato fries are prepared just the way I like'em, fresh with lots of flavor. I was only going to eat half of the Cheeseburger, but then it tasted so good, and I was drooling with liciousness, I couldn't help but eat the whole thing. Lots of customers came in, some stayed to eat while others picked-up and took out. Everyone in the area and beyond knows about Another Place Cafe, and it's well attended. If you are looking for an out-of-the-way-place, the Another Place Cafe is that place. It's only 40 minutes from San Angelo, and it's some really good food, no matter what you order. Our Server (name unknown) received the "Dollar-Bow-Tie" Award for going 'above-n-beyond' the norm - and she didn't know what to think of it, but had a huge smile on her face.

The reason it missed the 5-star mark with me was our waitress was slow to do everything. Even with taking our drink order. Then our food order. The worst was waiting for my final bill. And then she forgot our takeout box for my youngest. I don't know why she didn't have a greater sense of responsiveness with our party of 3, but it was like this the entire duration of our meal on July 25, 2026. It was super frustrating! The other reason I knocked off a star off was because the towel dispenser was depleted in the lone restroom. I had to flag down an employee with drenched hands. THE PROS I called about 20 minutes ahead of time to reserve a table because I knew this brassiere was on the small side. The lady on the phone was courteous and professional. If you have a hot date, I highly recommend reservations particularly in the evening. This seems like that sort of place. When we arrived, I found free street parking a short walk away. We were promptly greeted and seated. To enter the restaurant, you must go inside the Frost Bank tower's lobby, but to exit there is a door just beyond the bar. This place has beautiful, eclectic decor. The bar area was somewhat rounded and has an easygoing, but classy feel to it. THE FOOD The ambiance is what made this a great mother/daughters brunch date. The food sets it apart from the majority of restaurants in this oil industry town. The have East Coast-sourced oysters on the menu! These are far superior to their West Coast counterparts. I would have opted for these for our app if it weren't for my minions, I mean children. Pigs in a Blanket ($15.00) - yet another appetizer my daughters pigged out on that I didn't get to try. And they said they weren't that hungry! Lies all lies. They looked divine with nicely cooked juicy sausage and everything seasoning on the pastries. Avo Toast ($11.50) - my newly-turned teen daughter and I both had our own. I opted for eggs over easy which were cooked nicely. She oddly chose scrambled eggs for her, but she ate pretty much all of it. Smashed Burger ($17) - my youngest had this and said it was excellent. Nice touch with an American flag planted into the top bun. For the umpteenth time she did not share a fry with me. It is what it is. Mocha latte ($5.00) - my youngest's birthday which I will be missing since she'll be visiting her father is coming up so this was a treat for her. I tried it. Quite good after being thoroughly stirred. 1988 Martini ($18) - pricey but oh so good. The olives stuffed with bleu cheese were not bad. I had to try it even though the thought of bleu cheese kind of turned me off. Lol. Will I return? Of course because I have faith it will be 5 stars next time. Look at the other raving reviews!
