Visiting from New York, we woke up to a slow leak on one of the tires of our car. Not knowing any local mechanics or tire shops, I called around and the first few places I tried told me I had to call back (this was at 7:30a). Finally trying Settle, the friendly voice said " Sure come on in". Luckily I was only a few miles away and when I arrived I was warmly greeted. However, they said they were backed up and it might take 3 hours to wait. Unfortunately I had no choice. But I was glad I waited. The two guys at the desk greeted all new customers as warmly as they had to me. Making banter and explaining everything to each person. They gave me periodic updates and got my car in the garage in about 2 1/2 hours. They patched the tire in about 15 minutes and charged me $20. Super friendly service, great price, and now I know where to go if I ever have car trouble again next time I visit. read more

Liars, cheats and swindlers. Tried to convince me I didn't need to have all 4 of my tires checked for nails after I found them in 2 tires. They said it was going to cost me extra, I said I didn't care and wanted my tires checked anyway. When I went to pick it up he told me I didn't need to pay he was going to do it for me for free. Fast forward to a few days later and I have another flat in a different tire... called to asked if they had actually checked the tires. I got yelled out and was told that's a "free service why would'd we preform a free service" So why did you tell me in the first place it was going to cost me $$ to have them checked? read more

I'm more than a little disappointed. While the staff was courteous and professional and they were able to find and repair the small puncture in my rear driver side tire, the lugs were not reinserted properly. Months after the repair, I attempted a rear brake inspection and could not remove the wheel. Imagine that. Any flat in that tire would have immobilized my car where it was even though I have a full size spare in the trunk. Keep that in mind. After several trips to Settle to remove the lugs they inserted improperly, two of the five were stuck. My car is now in another shop where they are removing the lugs and repairing the damage done. Please take me serious when I saw AVOID AVOID AVOID. This place is bad news. I hate to say it but they are crooks wearing mechanic uniforms. I drive a 2014 Hyundai that has no issues. Recently had work done by Hyundai for a warranty recall. Went here because we live in the neighborhood and can walk to it. Decided to come here for a simple inspection. Everything was all peachy in the beginning. Later that day we got a call saying that we needed front and back brakes, rotors, and something else that totaled out to be $1700, which we NEEDED to have done or they would reject the car. We found this odd due to the fact we literally just came from the Hyundai dealership a few days before. Upon questioning he said that they may have just overlooked it but it definitely resend to be done. We asked that they do nothing and we will take the car back to Hyundai. After we explained our dilemma to Hyundai they said they would take a look. Long story short, we got a call saying the car passed and they have no idea why they would insist we replace anything. We used Settle to put new tires on our Acura MDX and we were very happy. When it came time to change the tires and get an inspection on our GMC Yukon we were in a bit of quandary. With the corona virus concern we were trying our best at "social distancing". Settle actually came to our home in Crozet to get the vehicle and then brought it back to us! I needed new tires for my car, and after checking tire reviews online, I looked for tire stores. Settle was able to give me an online quote for the tires I wanted, including all the installation and taxes. Their prices were by far the most reasonable. They were also less expensive than other stores in town, which didn't include the taxes and installation in their on line quotes. I made an appointment, and was happy to arrive and not only get the tires installed, and an alignment, but they also inspection was expired and they were able to complete that as well. I wasn't aware they did inspections, so anticipated having to take it somewhere else for this. Unlike so many other places I have taken my car over the years, especially the local dealer, the guys at Settle never once tried to up sell me, out recommend work that would cost me an arm and a leg. They told me I would most likely need new brake pads before my next inspection. Since my car has over 185,000 miles on it, this is no big surprise. The surprise is they didn't try to sell me a gagillion dollar brake job that wasn't needed yet. I was in and out in approximately 2.5 hours, they offered to give me a ride somewhere if I needed it, but since I was off, this wasn't necessary. I needed a high mileage oil change and had a squealing belt. It was my first visit to Settle Tire but won't be my last. I arrived at 12:45, planing to drop my car off. Wayne greeted me and captured what I needed. He said they'd call once they had a diagnosis. By 3:20 the same day, my high mileage oil change, tire rotation & fluids top off was done. Wayne told me which belt needed replacement & that my water pump did too. Thé estimate was I knew , in the ballpark of what I could expect to pay for parts and labor. I gave thé go ahead & m'y ride was ready the next day. I am thrilled with the customer service I received, thought the cost of work was appropriate and now I have a neighborhood garage I can count on! Yes, you are right about recommending my front brakes be repaired, however; didn't really expect the bill for both sets to be $1,250. I HAD a budget it wasn't over $750!! Your prices are quite high. I do have a question....IF your mechanics are so thorough, how did they MISS the split in my front brake hoses? And YES i did have hubcaps on the back tires. I saw them when i found the metal shavings on the ground beside my car. They were there when the tow truck came...???? HOW DO YOU KNOW I LIVE ON A GRAVEL ROAD? That's just CREEPY!!! My so called "gravel" road does NOT have LARGE rocks!!!!! I stated before the sound of grinding was present when i pulled out of your lot. My question is Where's the rock they found? My wife and I have had a really good experience with Settle. We take our personal and our business vehicles there and the team is always straightforward and gets stuff done for a fair price. If they are really busy, they tell us so we know what to expect. This is refreshing. Everybody gets super busy sometimes... that's to be expected of any service provider that is any good. The nice thing about Settle is that they give good expectations so we can plan appropriately should we need aid during a busy spell. Typically, we just drop our cars off in the morning and pick them up same day. They are also very willing to help. Our son was in a wreck (hit from behind at a stop light) and the team even helped us find a replacement car as that car was totaled. I can easily recommend these guys to other folks and I trust their recommendations about my vehicles. read more

I have ONLY been here for annual inspections, and while the wait times are a bit long (especially during their 10th-20th of the month inspection specials), because they do first-come first served, (no appointments), they DO have free wi-fi and local shuttle service. Such an amazing service. My tires have been low on air twice in the past two years, and most gas station air pumps are either out of service or let even more air out of my tires, so when I came here both times, they immediately checked out my tires for me. The second time I went, they found out I had a nail in one of my tires, and quickly got me estimates and and order for a new tire. They kept my car until the afternoon the next day. This time I made an appointment and elected to wait for the oil change. Be warned. If you take your car here for anything other than tires or an oil change, you will most likely be ripped off. I used to work right next door to Settle, so would have them do my oil changes and inspections, just out of convenience. There were also several times when my car would seem to be having a problem, and I'd drop it off there for them to check it out. At least twice they diagnosed my car to need super costly repairs. (Over $500). On one occasion, I took my car to my usual repair shop, who found absolutely nothing wrong, despite trying their best. Another occasion, there was something wrong with my car, and Settle quoted me $700+ to repair it. I took it another shop where the same problem was repaired for less than $300. And I was a sort of regular at Settle!! Seriously. If you're having car problems, take your car somewhere else. read more

I think this place has had a change in management recently. I have been taking my car there for years, and I just took it in for its 100K mile service. They quoted me an outrageous sum (with 0% financing, something new, and which seems fishy). A quick look online indicates that they may be double charging for some labor--the price quoted is just too high. I think I'll take my business elsewhere. They've been great for tires and oil changes, but I have been a loyal customer for many years, and I don't appreciate feeling ripped off. read more

This place got voted Best-In-CVille, so I went there to have my brakes checked. They were incredibly friendly, and the waiting room was spacious and light. Turns out they couldn't fix my car because it is a hybrid, and the brakes are operated by the computer (which they don't have the equipment to check), but they advised me on other places in the area to get it checked out. I'm going entirely on a gut-feeling here, since I didn't actually have any work done, but they were very helpful, seemingly honest and nice. Over the past year, I've been charged or quoted for $5000 of work. Had a problem, charged me $1,200 to fix it. Still had the problem, charged me over a thousand in repairs. Months later, quoted me for $2,300 - went somewhere else for awhile. I thought it would be harmless to get my oil changed there, but they came back with another $1,000 quote. They said my car is just at that point, but it's 100k miles. I told some friends and they told similar stories. So, the conclusion is that either 1. Subaru's are terrible OR 2. Something fishy is going on. read more

I like the price of their discounted inspections in the middle of the month. I think it was $8. BUT! They pulled a trick I've found out to be all too common in the mechanic world: they took off my old inspection sticker and told me I needed hundreds of dollars of work to meet inspection requirements, leaving me with the choice of overpaying them or having a car without an inspection sticker. Luckily I chose leaving because I felt bamboozled, and I took it straight to another mechanic shop. The second opinion was that I didn't need hundreds of dollars of repair. And I learned from the second mechanic that a fair mechanic will not take the sticker off until the owner's been informed of what, if anything, needs repair to meet state standards. This way you can drive your car around and shop around, and you're not trapped in the place you went to for inspection. read more

Settle's was very gracious and helpful to open up their shop on a Saturday Afternoon just for our Airflow Club Car Club National Meet in CVille to enable the 1934-1937 Chrysler Airflow owners to be able to do work on their automobiles before they drove back across to California and all points on the compass.
