I went here for the first time to have my car inspected. They were fast, courteous, and thorough. I will use them from now on.

This shop is THE BEST! Honest, reasonable, and easy to deal with. I've been going here for 12 years and just love working with them!

This auto shop is seriously so honest and truthful. They live up to their motto and name. I called…read morethem to get a quote about break pad replacements because another auto shop was quoting me $900. The first auto shop was telling me that my breaks were at 2/32 of an inch remaining and that I needed to promptly replace my front break pads, drums, and rear. The first auto shop told me that the gears were now metal on metal. For context, I left my car idle for 2 weeks and every time I would break there was a low murmur. My car only has 70K miles on it. The Straight Up mechanic said I probably do not need my rear break pads replaced. The Straight Up mechanic assured me over the phone that this can be explained by rust build-up and what I was hearing was perfectly normal, but he would need to inspect it to see what I would actually need to get done. When I brought in my car, the mechanic inspected my bread pads front and rear. He promptly told me I did not need any replacements and that the first auto shop was lying about what work my car needed done. Straight Up did not charge me anything at all, even for checking my break pads. I highly recommend this place to anyone because they are honest and will not take advantage of you. If I ever need my car serviced, I will for sure bring my car back here.

I just have to challenge the review by Nikolai S who has posted similar in several places. He…read moredropped his car off at 8 AM and was pissed that it wasn't done by 10:30, and he called you to tell you? Come on... and "this little guy..." ? That's lacist, facist, naysist in Cockney slang. There are at least two other places to get your Saab fixed in Charlottesville, and more in Richmond. I meet people in Richmond and Arlington who bring their car to Ton because he's the best. He's particularly able to get your car going with used (or with your choice, new) parts. He fixed my back hatch after being rear-ended for 25% of the insurance estimate. Saabs can be quirky and expensive; I've driven them for 20 years and without Ton would have given up. Every repair he's done has been less expensive than anticipated, with no returns required. He got me a set of Michelins, installed, last week for less than Costco. He can arrange an inspection and oil change for less than taking it in myself, saving me time. My gas latch broke and his people dropped what they were doing and fixed it for me, gratis, when I dropped in. When my stereo wouldn't restart after a battery change since I didn't know the code, he dropped in an equivalent used one, again, gratis. Now the down side. Ton has a hard time saying no, and I believe takes on more work than feasible some weeks. Yes, he's told me it will be done by close of business Tuesday, and it wound up being Thursday. CALL FIRST to check. If you have only one car for transport, ask to use the loaner. Ton Dinh is the only reason I'm still driving a Saab. My experience with fixing the occasional other car gives me comparison. At other shops I've had used parts installed, priced as new, bolts left untightened, wrong size tires installed, sheesh. By that measure Ton should be up for sainthood.

I brought my saab 9-5 in for a minor error code reading (p1110). The fix was exceedingly minimal,…read morejust securing the vacuum line a little better. I was surprised by the cost for such a small fix and called back after the fact to ask about the price breakdown. I was careful to be very respectful when I did, and to not be accusatory. When Ton's receptionist thought she'd hung up on me, she and Ton started to complain about me and my 'impudence' questioning the charge. Never a great experience listening to people talk about you behind your back. For a little more context, my family has bout two cars from him and spent thousands in repair costs with international imports. This left me with a bad taste in my mouth. YouTube videos are a better route for fixing my car in the future.
