Very happy with this local shop recommended by UVA parents. My daughter for the first time had to deal with a mechanic on her own. The owner Joe inspected my daughter's car with heat not working. After an inspection it was determined the water pump was going out and thankfully did not drop all the fluid on the road. Joe gave an estimate on repairs and timetable. The car was ready on time and within budget. The heat now works. The repair cost was well below that of a dealer. I talked to Joe to wrap up everything and I found him to be ethical and trusted. We were in town just for a few hours and my car started making a horrendous noise that very much said "you'll die if you drive back to DC like this." We found Peacock, and they were amazing. Brought my car in right away, told me what was wrong with it, gave a (very reasonable) estimate. We walked down to some bookshops and before we knew it, they called and said the car was ready. Overall cost was slightly less than they quoted and you'd never know there had been a problem with the car. If I could give them more than 5 stars, I would. For the work, and for the service. If you need a mechanic in town, look no further. Seriously, stop looking. Joe is too legit to quit. Frankly, I haven't had the best experience with auto shops, beginning in my teenage years, well into young adulthood; hence, my skepticism and partial distrust of most mechanics. But this family operated business is great and they're honest & kind - my kind of people. I would trust them with my firstborn child. Partially joshing ya, but you get my point. I took both of my cars in, get this - in the same week. Just my luck. I had the unfortunate experience of getting into one of my vehicles, turning the engine on, only to find out that my catalytic converter had been jacked by someone. Like, who does that? Turns out, that theft is rampant here in town, and so as soon as I called Peacock based off the recommendation of multiple friends, they were extremely understanding and compassionate towards my situation. They suggested the best option going forward and what the price would be (I called my uncle, who's a mechanic elsewhere and he basically gave a thumbs up). My second vehicle had a broken window, and I was able to get that fixed within the same day after making an appointment. All that to say. Every time I go on a hike in the mountains I scream from the top about how much I love Peacock Auto. In all seriousness though, Joe, Mandy, and their entire team are fantastic. It is the most honest group of people I've ever met. I've gotten everything from an oil change up to front brake replacements done and Joe's assessments are always honest. I've never once felt nickeled and dimed or pressured into something that was unnecessary. The best example of this was today. Last week I got a state inspection done elsewhere (heads up they do not do state inspections!) and while my car passed, the other company in town tried to pressure me into getting my rear brakes done before I left. Since I had somewhat recently taken my car to Joe for an axle leak, I was a bit unsure of their assessment so I made an appointment for Peacock to check it out. Great service experience for 2 cars. About 2 years ago, Peacock did a good job replacing the rear brakes on my 2002 Highlander (200,000+ miles). They didn't find anything else wrong that needed immediate attention. Trouble free since then except that I'm bringing it in tomorrow for a leaking rear axle. Last month when my daughter's 2007 Highlander needed a timing belt and related components, I brought it down from Maryland. The owners are very friendly--Joe handles all of the repairs and his wife handles the office responsibilities. When my car arrived at Peacock, Joe called me, asked me some questions about my car, and advised me on best options. I opted to get my car fixed even though it was basically a hot mess that needed tons of other repairs. My car was fixed quickly and at a competitive price. This place is awesome. There's far too many reasons to fit into one review, so I'll just highlight a few. First and foremost, Joe is the most honest mechanic I've ever met. He doesn't like to up-sell, and will level with you about what needs to be done now, and what can be saved for later. I've never felt pressured or uneasy about what needs to be fixed, and his personal touch makes him that much more trustworthy. Second, he's incredibly knowledgeable, and willing to share his thought process. I expect most mechanics to know what they are talking about, but Joe is not only open and comfortable explaining what he plans on fixing on your car, he is good at explaining it too! There's no handwaving about it - if you want to know what needs to be done and why he'll go right into it. Finally, Joe is an all around good guy. He doesn't treat you like just another customer. Very friendly folks. Parking break mysteriously stopped working and Joe (the owner) was very thorough in diagnosing the issue. He figured out that the previous mechanic (I have no idea who as I bought the car used) had installed the clips upside down and they had snapped off. Would have easily been able to sell me a new cable if he wanted; was very honest and was able to make the old cable work by re-installing it properly. read more

I came in with what I thought was a leaking tire. It kept going half-flat and I assumed I was going to need to blow $200 or more on new tires for that wheel and its partner. But Joe figured out that the leak was merely from some corrosion on the rim of the actual wheel. I was very pleasantly surprised when they said it would just be 30 bucks to get it fixed up. Very honest and fair service. This is the second time I've visited Peacock. The first time they did about $600 of work, which included fixing a busted power-steering hose, replacing a tire, fixing a broken radiator cap, and one or two things I don't remember. I remember thinking they were friendly, competent, and fair though. This latest tire fix confirms that impression. read more

I cannot say enough good things about Peacock Auto. I have been coming here for several years, and it seems weird to say, but I actually look forward to bringing my car in for service. I think Joe (mechanic) and his wife Mandy (runs the front desk) are wonderful people who provide excellent service to their customers. It's a small operation with a lot of heart - while you wait for your car to be serviced, you can get loved on by one of the several elderly dogs that Joe and Mandy have rescued. Joe is skilled, knowledgeable, and honest. He appreciates my car's limitations (it's old, I don't drive much, and I don't want to sink a lot of money into it) and carefully gauges the necessity of repairs. Since Peacock does NOT do State inspections, I have had other garages suggest repairs that Joe has dismissed as unnecessary. Any work that he has done has been quick, surprisingly affordable, and has stood the test of time.
