Professional mechanics Talk with person who does actual work on your vehicle. Prices are reasonable ie better than dealers. Price should be secondary to quality of repairs, transparency in their dealings. The one I go to when necessary. I bought a used vehicle. Something wasn't quite right at 75. They adjusted some part a few degrees and bam smooth ride again. read more

Very happy with this local shop recommended by UVA parents. My daughter for the first time had to deal with a mechanic on her own. The owner Joe inspected my daughter's car with heat not working. After an inspection it was determined the water pump was going out and thankfully did not drop all the fluid on the road. Joe gave an estimate on repairs and timetable. The car was ready on time and within budget. The heat now works. The repair cost was well below that of a dealer. I talked to Joe to wrap up everything and I found him to be ethical and trusted. A rarity these days for mechanics. He let the car stay an extra day at his shop with a winter storm. Totally recommend Peacock Auto Service. 5 Stars! read more

Joe and Mandy are simply the best! Best service in town. Reasonable pricing and HONEST! They are a local treasure

We were in town just for a few hours and my car started making a horrendous noise that very much said "you'll die if you drive back to DC like this." We found Peacock, and they were amazing. Brought my car in right away, told me what was wrong with it, gave a (very reasonable) estimate. We walked down to some bookshops and before we knew it, they called and said the car was ready. Overall cost was slightly less than they quoted and you'd never know there had been a problem with the car. If I could give them more than 5 stars, I would. For the work, and for the service. I only wish they were closer to where I lived so that I would have such amazing people around any time I needed them. read more

Joe and Mandy run the best mechanic shop I've ever had my vechicles served at. Truly, they are the best. Really honest and it seems like they can source parts out of thin air. Terrific prices. Saved me thousands of dollars over the last 3-4 years. read more

Did some very reasonably priced muffler work for me when I was in school at UVA when I was quoted a much higher price elsewhere. Very transparent and kind people in the front office and shop itself. read more

I just had an awesome experience with Peacock Auto Service in Belmont! Family owned business, great branding, got me in and out for my oil change faster than promised, and my grand total was $65!! I was expecting at least $110 based on recent J*ffy L*be service. I am now a loyal customer for life! THANK YOU PEACOCK! read more

Peacock is the best. Kind, honest, highly skilled, reliable and community minded; I'm so thankful that for many years there's a garage I absolutely trust. Thank you always, Joe and Mandy! read more

If you are looking for honest, reliable, professional AND friendly automotive services, this is definitely where you want to go. When we brought our tired Honda CRV in for service, we expected an eye roll and a huge estimate to keep the car safe through my daughter's final year at UVA. Joe was amazing!!! His patience and advice were exceptional. He also understood our budget constraints but ensured that we addressed all of our safety concerns completely. Can't say enough about the service we received and can't recommend Peacock highly enough! read more

Joe and Mandy are the most honest car people I've ever met. :) Joe is passionate about all things car-related and is always trying to teach me more about the inner workings of my car whenever I come in with an issue. They polished my car's headlights one time for free when I brought in my car for other maintenance, and my friend who referred me to Peacock said it's the first car shop that actually ended up charging him *less* than what they initially quoted. read more

Booked my son there and he said"Best auto shop I've ever been to" and "Saw them try to get people to wait on additional work to see if the car needed it " read more

Great show. They fixed my daughter's car and were very honest and the price was reasonable. Very nice people. Highly recommend!

If you need a mechanic in town, look no further. Seriously, stop looking. Joe is too legit to quit. Frankly, I haven't had the best experience with auto shops, beginning in my teenage years, well into young adulthood; hence, my skepticism and partial distrust of most mechanics. But this family operated business is great and they're honest & kind - my kind of people. I would trust them with my firstborn child. Partially joshing ya, but you get my point. I took both of my cars in, get this - in the same week. Just my luck. I had the unfortunate experience of getting into one of my vehicles, turning the engine on, only to find out that my catalytic converter had been jacked by someone. Like, who does that? Turns out, that theft is rampant here in town, and so as soon as I called Peacock based off the recommendation of multiple friends, they were extremely understanding and compassionate towards my situation. They suggested the best option going forward and what the price would be (I called my uncle, who's a mechanic elsewhere and he basically gave a thumbs up). My second vehicle had a broken window, and I was able to get that fixed within the same day after making an appointment. All that to say. They're the best in town and I will recommend them to everyone (all 3 of my friends) I know. read more

Peacock is the best! Joe and Mandy run a great business. Honest repairs and straight forward. I take my personal and business vehicles to Peacock. You can't go wrong! read more

Have nothing but good things to say about Peacock Auto Service. Took by 12 year old Toyota SUV to them to have a wheel bearing replaced and Joe not only did a thorough job of diagnosing and repairing the issue, but he also took the time to explain to me how he went about diagnosing. The repair price was fair and the issue has been fixed. Will continue to recommend Peacock Auto to friends and family. read more

My oil change here was very quick and definitely affordable! I was able to get an appointment easily over the phone, which made things very convenient. The staff is super friendly (bonus: there are dogs!!!) and I'd definitely recommend this business to anyone in the area. read more

We love this place... Odd to say for an auto mechanic shop! Joe is fair and honest and willing to talk everything through w you. I was in the market to replace my car and he told me to email him cars I liked and he would let me know what he thought. It was an invaluable help to me and we were able to select a good vehicle w his help. It's a family place w his wife working the office and their adorable dogs hanging out in the office too. read more

Shady end of town. When I cancelled my appointment, they socked me with a $40 diagnostic fee, something that was never disclosed up front or is posted anywhere at or in the shop, or on their website. I'll be avoiding this bunch like I'm avoiding COVID --- as much as I can. Forever. read more

Every time I go on a hike in the mountains I scream from the top about how much I love Peacock Auto. In all seriousness though, Joe, Mandy, and their entire team are fantastic. It is the most honest group of people I've ever met. I've gotten everything from an oil change up to front brake replacements done and Joe's assessments are always honest. I've never once felt nickeled and dimed or pressured into something that was unnecessary. The best example of this was today. Last week I got a state inspection done elsewhere (heads up they do not do state inspections!) and while my car passed, the other company in town tried to pressure me into getting my rear brakes done before I left. Since I had somewhat recently taken my car to Joe for an axle leak, I was a bit unsure of their assessment so I made an appointment for Peacock to check it out. Thank God I did because Joe assured me that the brakes had plenty of life. Super thankful for their whole team and I will continue to recommend them to anyone looking for a great mechanic. read more

Peacock auto service really came to the rescue for me. I was traveling up to the mountains and noticed a check tire light come on my dash. I made a quick stop in Charlottesville on a Friday afternoon and they were able to fit me in. I was so grateful because this would have been a very bad situation if I had been stranded in the mountains. They filled the nail hole In my tire and got me out of there right away so that I could resume my trip. Thank you Peacock Auto service, great staff, awesome service. read more

Gone here several years, and I've always loved the personal service. Husband and wife team own the business, and I feel they're very honest down to earth people. I would give Joe and this auto repair shop 10 stars if I could; all of these google reviews speak the truth. My husband and I stopped here in the midst of road trip because our AC stopped working and the entire car had started rattling badly. Despite being very busy, everyone was so friendly and helpful, from the mechanic inside, to the lady in the office and especially Joe. Joe was extremely knowledgeable and helped us as best as he could under the circumstances. What I appreciated the most about him was his honesty. We've been following his advice and it seems to be working so far. I would highly recommend coming here. If I lived here, Peacock would be THE place to bring my car. Many thanks Joe! read more

Great service experience for 2 cars. About 2 years ago, Peacock did a good job replacing the rear brakes on my 2002 Highlander (200,000+ miles). They didn't find anything else wrong that needed immediate attention. Trouble free since then except that I'm bringing it in tomorrow for a leaking rear axle. Last month when my daughter's 2007 Highlander needed a timing belt and related components, I brought it down from Maryland. Peacock did a great job! .... and much less than the dealer's estimate. read more

A honest mechanic - can you believe it? I've been very pleased with service here - bills you like he is spending his own money. Example, came in with premature dead battery which I suspected was alternator or starter - he suggested I get it replaced under warranty from the place where I had got the battery. He could've charged me for some service, but instead made sure I exhausted free/cheaper options first. read more

I have an older car that constantly needs service. Something happened with my car's brake system, so I had it towed to Peacock Auto Service. The owners are very friendly--Joe handles all of the repairs and his wife handles the office responsibilities. When my car arrived at Peacock, Joe called me, asked me some questions about my car, and advised me on best options. I opted to get my car fixed even though it was basically a hot mess that needed tons of other repairs. My car was fixed quickly and at a competitive price. Joe even extended the offer to look at any cars I was thinking about purchasing. It is very rare to find an honest mechanic who really cares about his customers. I would not take my car anywhere else in Charlottesville after finding this gem. read more

Was recommended to them by a friend after my car was experiencing issues starting. They responded quickly to all my emails and calls about getting an appointment and any other questions I had. They are very friendly and got my car fixed in 2 days! Great service! read more

Saw the positive reviews, so I decided to check it out (I recently moved to Charlottesville). They responded to my emails very quickly and even set up a pre-appointment time where they could assess the work that needed to be done beforehand. When it came time to work on the car, I dropped it off and sat in the lobby. They were done in less than a half-hour. Very reasonable prices too. Would recommend to anybody who needs work done on their car. read more

They're the best, hands down. Joe always thoroughly explains what is going on with your vehicle, what your options are, how much it will cost and why. Further, when I was looking at buying a used car, Joe voluntarily advised us on different makes and models, and was even willing to check out a car we were considering. Mandy is always friendly and helpful, making a trip to the mechanic a fun experience (who says that?!). We feel lucky to have found them. read more

Great mechanic shop! Heard about this place word of mouth. Got a new engine, new brakes, and a couple other fixes over the course of my four years at UVA. Very reasonable in cost and high quality work. They care about customers and really love cars. Kenneth would also come out when I pulled up and ask what I needed (since he put the engine in). Obviously you never want to go to the mechanic shop, but if you have to, go to Peacock. Joe will do the right thing for you and your car (including respecting warranties and trying to help you keep cost as low as possible). read more

I love Peacock. Joe is the kind of mechanic who loves a challenge and a puzzle, which has worked out great for our older vehicles. He gets creative and/or dogged about solving problems, when a lot of other shops would shrug their shoulders after the first attempt. I think he really enjoys keeping older vehicles running. He and Mandy run a great business. read more

Wonderful repair shop. Very courteous and the work done quickly and correctly. This shop was a great find for both me and my 2008 Explorer.

This place is awesome. There's far too many reasons to fit into one review, so I'll just highlight a few. First and foremost, Joe is the most honest mechanic I've ever met. He doesn't like to up-sell, and will level with you about what needs to be done now, and what can be saved for later. I've never felt pressured or uneasy about what needs to be fixed, and his personal touch makes him that much more trustworthy. Second, he's incredibly knowledgeable, and willing to share his thought process. I expect most mechanics to know what they are talking about, but Joe is not only open and comfortable explaining what he plans on fixing on your car, he is good at explaining it too! There's no handwaving about it - if you want to know what needs to be done and why he'll go right into it. Finally, Joe is an all around good guy. He doesn't treat you like just another customer. He's friendly (as is his wife) and down to earth. If you want a friendly, honest, trustworthy, and knowledgeable local mechanic this is your spot. read more

I came in with what I thought was a leaking tire. It kept going half-flat and I assumed I was going to need to blow $200 or more on new tires for that wheel and its partner. But Joe figured out that the leak was merely from some corrosion on the rim of the actual wheel. I was very pleasantly surprised when they said it would just be 30 bucks to get it fixed up. Very honest and fair service. This is the second time I've visited Peacock. The first time they did about $600 of work, which included fixing a busted power-steering hose, replacing a tire, fixing a broken radiator cap, and one or two things I don't remember. I remember thinking they were friendly, competent, and fair though. This latest tire fix confirms that impression. read more

I have been coming here ever since I moved to Charlottesville 5 years ago and will not go anywhere else. Joe is honest, knowledgeable and cares about his customers. My former car was a piece of crap and every time I needed repairs, Joe explained everything, gave me options, and worked to get used parts since it was on it's last leg anyway and I was on a budget. All the while he encouraged me to stop wasting my money and get a new car, haha. I took his advice and got a new car eventually. I continue to go there for routine maintenance and for anything else that may happen (knock on wood). Go support this family owned, honest company, you will not be disappointed. read more

Great service and very honest! They tell you exactly what you need and their prices beat anyone in town. I refuse to go anywhere else!

This place came recommended by friends, and I understand why. No elaborate work was needed on my car--just an oil change and a check on a tire. I appreciated that they called to ask about the type of oil I use and if I wanted them to go ahead and patch up the tire where they found a nail. The owner came out and talked to me about my car at the end. He is both knowledgeable of his trade and fair. It is a small operation, so you will likely need to schedule ahead of time. I think there was a week wait for an oil change. We'll definitely go back! read more
