Super convenient if you work downtown but be sure to ask the price if getting an oil change. $217 for inspection, oil change and tire rotation. They also did a lube but in a newer truck I'm not sure this is even needed. That was $40 of the overall charge. But- Convenient none the less read more

First and last time taking my car there, went for a alignment got home and noticed my panel was damaged and pushed in with a hole threw the bottom side panel of my car assuming the lift Was not placed in the location as it should have been! read more

Long story short- I purchased an aftermarket lift kit that Bob's agreed to install for me at a very competitive and reasonable rate. Unfortunately, the shop ran into problems when we discovered the manufacturer of the kit sent us not only several wrong components, but also had an improper design that could have potentially damaged my car. Todd, who worked on my vehicle, expertly and diligently handled the matter, not only saving my original strut from further damage caused by the poorly designed part, but also managed to make the most of the kit designed for the rear so it helped lift my vehicle in the back exactly the amount I needed for my towing/camping/hauling needs. The whole process took two whole weeks due to the back and forth with the manufacturer and supply chain issues with parts. Yet, the entire team at Bob's was incredibly patient and thorough in spite of the frustration we had with the manufacturer, keeping me in the loop every step of the way and multiple times a day. In the end, the car was successfully lifted exactly the way I wanted (perhaps even a little nicer than the manufacturer had designed it for originally!). Cost-wise, the project was more expensive than I had originally budgeted for, but only by a reasonable amount considering the amount of extra labor that was involved with negotiating the manufacturer's design flaws. I am in awe of their professionalism, and cannot emphasize enough how much they care about their customers (and their vehicles). 6/5 stars! read more

I had a tire that needed mounting on a hard to replace wheel that had some corrosion issues. They took care of the wheel and got it mounted quickly with no problems. Everyone, and I mean from the moment I walked in the door, front and back are some of the nicest people I've dealt with in the auto world. Good people that get the job done right and quickly. We are fairly new to the area from Washington DC but we could not be happier with their detail to service, thoroughness in completing the task at hand, and fairness in their pricing! Do not let the name Bobs Wheel Alignment confuse you with realizing that they do everything for your car under the hood except for Recalls on your Vehicle. I've used Bob's quite a few times now (and so has my father) for different repairs. Pretty much all automotive repair is expensive but Bob's is reasonably priced and what a value about them is THEY ARE HONEST!!! They don't try to sell you on unnecessary repairs and if you ask what more pressing matter is they'll tell you. In my opinion I would rather spend a little more to get something fixed, feel confident that it is fixed or if it isn't I could take it back if it during a certain time frame instead of going somewhere else to pay less for lower quality work. For instance a few weeks ago I took my car there to see about a wheel bearing and exhaust leak. Ricky seems to always be the one working on my car and I put on the drop off envelope to call before anything was done. Turns out I needed a wheel bearing and engine mount. He gave me a total for everything but when I asked what the more pressing issue was he said wheel bearing and gave me a break down on just that which thankfully included an alignment. When I was told I would need one I was afraid that was an additional cost which wouldn't be too big of a deal except I had just had an alignment done somewhere else back in December when I had new tires put on. My father has only had good experiences here just like I have and for most things this is our go to shop! They stay busy so if you don't have time to wait they do offer a shuttle service. I've never needed it so I don't know how far they go but it's a nice service to have. I recommend booking a few weeks ahead of when you want or need the repairs done but if you call they will try to work you in. They have early bird drop off in a well lit parking lot for those who want to drop off the night before. I appreciate and respect the honesty of Bob's and for then times they have fit my car into their schedule. Brought my vehicle in for a minor adjustment to a previous front end alignment, performed on 6-1-22. I made an appointment expecting to get in the shop at the appointed time, but was told after a 50 minute wait, that it would be 2-3 hours before a warranted adjustment was made. This was a surprising, unexpected situation based on my initial service visit to Bob's. But after speaking with Todd Archer, we came to an understanding of the issue and his professional response was outstanding. He got me in the shop and resolved the issue within 25 minutes. Go here if you don't know anything about mechanics and the actual price of things. I went here to get a simple state inspection and they literally gave me a list of things "that urgently need replacing" and they put a rejection sticker on my BMW. Turns out I took the car to my mechanic in VA Beach and other than one tire being changed, everything else was fine (and he showed me with his own hands) Bob's Wheel Alignment was going to charge me $500 or more for my "urgent repairs" One tire and state inspection at other mechanic: $140 Use you head, and don't throw away your money here. PS- my girlfriend also had a bad experience here. read more

The repair shop does seem to be managed really well. The service I needed (which was replacement of 2 front tires and alignment) was done expeditiously and they didn't try to sell me anything else that I didn't need. It is a little expensive, but they will stand behind there work. I had 4 tires of the same type installed at Sam's Club for the same price as the 2 here just 5 years ago. But at least I have a local business owner who will resolve any issues should they arise. Couldn't get that from a mega-box store. Suggestion: try to negotiate the price, I think they price it expecting you to offer less. I wish I had done this. read more

Just had my SUV in to Bob's -- they were recommended to us, and a good recommendation it was! We were about to head out on a long road trip, and needed same-day help...Bob's was able to fit us in. We had some brake issues -- jittery brakes at high speed -- and two days earlier the dealer said it was in need of alignment and balancing (we were there for a regular service appointment). Bob's said that it wasn't likely that alignment would affect the braking jitters, and didn't want to charge us for something that we didn't need (a very good start) -- but they would look into it. It turned out that the rear rotors were warped -- and they recommended replacement (along with pads). The tires were indeed wearing unevenly, so he also recommended alignment. We did just the rear rotors/pads and a full alignment, and things are much (much!) better. He said that if this fixed the issue, there was no need to do the front (though at some point, that might be needed). The fact that they didn't try to sell me something I didn't need is the first positive indicator for Bob's. The second fact locks it up -- they did a terrific job at a reasonable price. Over priced!! I had a oil change, tire replaced on back of truck (bf Goodrich 4x4 tire 160.00 for one) and air filter that they said was causing my check engine light to come on. 590.00 dollars later and still my check engine light is on. I was floored on the price. NEVER AGAIN! read more

$66 bucks for a standard, run of the mill oil change - way more than anywhere else. It's convenient if you live/work downtown, but you're going to pay significantly more than at lots of other shops, and you're getting nothing extra for it. Steer clear if price is a concern. Service is adequate - not particularly friendly but not rude either. Work I've had done here is OK, but nothing special. Bottom Line: Bring cash read more

While travelling to Indiana from Richmond, VA for my brother's funeral in October, we stopped in Charlottesville to hand off UVA football tickets. As we left, we immediately began to hear a loud noise coming from the front end of the car. We stopped and inspected it thinking we had picked up some debris and were dragging it under the car. We found nothing under the car, but could not drive to Indiana with that kind of noise and not knowing the reason. We called the friend we had just met and he recommended Bob's Wheel Alignment but warned us that they were usually backed up and he didn't know if they would be able to look at the car. When we arrived, the shop was at maximum capacity with all bays full and the parking lot completely full. We explained our problem and situation. We were quickly assisted. They drove the car and put it on a lift and inspected it. They found nothing but a small nail in the tire which they repaired. We suspect that we did pick up some sort of debris and threw it off while driving to the shop. But we felt much better with continuing our long drive after having the car inspected by the technician and we had no further issues. Not only did Bob's Wheel Alignment manage to get us in during a very busy time and give me some peace of mind for our drive during a very difficult time for me, they then advised there was no charge for the service. You can't find any better service than we were given. read more

Have been to Bob's many years ago when they were developing their stellar reputation, but due to my location, I haven't been back again till a few times recently, and the experiences were very good. Scott helped me get a couple sets of tires recently at fair prices (one set we negotiated a price based on my Tire Rack findings), and he even worked me into a full schedule to help meet my teen son's deadline for a track day. Ran into a snag with a tire supplier's freight company, but he had the foresight to make sure a similar set of tires was available and still got us on our way, in time and with a great set of tires, being gracious and accommodating all the while. Made me feel like I had an inside connection, so he's now my man and Bob's is now my place for tires, brakes, suspension, etc. read more

I have been to this shop twice. The first time they did a great job on my older Mustang. The second time, with my daughter's car, they advised that the issue was insignificant and no repair was necessary. It doesn't get better than that. read more

Ordered set of 4 tires and set up appt 5 days prior. Day of, I am there for an hour before they come out to tell me they can't find them...forgot to order...come back the next day. Next day, takes them 5 hours because they schedule EVERYTHING for 8:00. Drop or wait all the same. Job finally done...and they have hit every single spoke of EVERY single wheel. I have mags. Asked them initially and specifically if they could handle them without gouging. "Absolutely because we have a $40,000 'no-touch' machine so we ought to be able to." Apparently, this means nobody touches the machine because after I pointed out the damage to the shop supervisor, he went in to see if they had used said equipment, but came out not saying a word...sounds like 'no'. They wanted to get someone they work with to see what they could do to repair and when I started asking questions, they reassured me that if I was not satisfied with their 'repair' they would take care of me "100%". "We will get you 100% satisfied". The guy they work with "repaired" the marks by spraying them. Seriously. Then came the "that's good enough" until I had to talk to the shop manager and when I pointed out that I now had a full set of scratched and sprayed mags that THEY would not put on their showroom floor, he finally backed up and said they would replace. 10 minutes later, I get a phone call from Bob himself. He is ticked off that they had to do anything towards repair already and yelling that he had to cut a check to someone (the spray job) and he isn't doing another thing! Three times he interrupted me with his "I don't know the whole story, but..." before I hung up on him. I had pointed out that he didn't know ANY of the story because he was not there, never saw the damage, never called me except to tell me to take a hike and "I don't care how much you bad-mouth me, I'm not doing another thing for you" I asked these people up front about their mags 'capability' before I even ordered the tires. They had not a scratch on them going in and the only scratches on them afterwards were the rings they put in. They promised satisfaction if I would work with them. It was their plan, not mine. Bob shut the whole thing down with his ignorance blazing but his resolve not to do another **** thing about it. They pressure people into doing a front end alignment with new tires. My car ran the road straight as an arrow before the appt. Definitely pulled to the right after...they did do a re-alignment to fix it to straight again, but that follow up was another 6 hour day followed by an obnoxious phone call from the owner. If your car runs straight, you DON'T need an alignment. If you have high dollar mags and want them looking good after, stick with the dealers...I know I am completely sorry I didn't. My dealer just didn't have the tires I wanted in stock. If you run any year POS and you hit curbs when you park, then this may be the place for you. Don't think an 8:00 appt gets you in during the morning. Don't be impressed by some so-called '$40,000 whizbang' or any promise of '100% satisfaction'. I scheduled an appointment yesterday at 3pm for a state motor vehicle inspection. Scheduling a time went exceptionally well as they were very flexible and cordial when I called. The workers were very prompt, professional, and did a great job completing the service. The front desk ladies were also extremely nice. Every time a worker came in to talk to a customer at the waiting room, the worker had a vibrant, friendly, and kind attitude. I really appreciate and respect all the work they do! This place is very affordable and reasonable with the price. A motor vehicle inspection took 1 to 1.5 hours and the job was well done for only $16. I could not imagine any better service!!! The office and waiting room is spacious; the bathroom facility is also clean. For entertainment, binge reading People Magazine was a delight. AVOID at all cost!!! I went here to get my state inspection done, the receptionists were very grumpy, and I overheard several of the mechanics talking and they seemed to be making mistakes left and right. They also called me and told me that I needed to brakes and rotors for a total cost of 580 dollars. I knew that these parts were fine so I got my car back and took it to API auto also in Charolttesville where I was told that there was absolutely nothing wrong with by brake pads or rotors and was promptly given my passing inspection. I know several people who have gone there and been ok but you shouldn't have to worry about whether you are going to get lucky that day or not. Go to API they were amazing! SHORT STORY::::: 1. Tried to charge me 580 dollars to pass inspection for parts which were perfectly fine 2. Mechanics seemed to be lost and very unorganized 3. Secretaries were very unfriendly 4. Dropped my car off after hours and called in the morning to get information, got nothing, they said they'd call back soon. Called again right before they closed, they said they couldn't get to it all day. After two days, they called and said it was ready, and charged me a $95 diagnostics fee that they didn't mention in the three times I called. They also gave me a $400 estimate, said i needed to replace my battery and brake light switch. Went to advance auto parts and bought a new brake light switch for $18, installed it in 10 minutes. Advance auto parts checked my battery and said it was fine, I just needed to run it for about an hour. This place will absolutely take advantage of you and overcharge. read more

Bob's has some of the most courteous, prompt and fair service for vehicles in the area. They are always willing to get the actual mechanic who worked on your car to speak with you and clearly explain any issues or repairs. The front desk staff is excellent and extremely efficient - there is rarely any wait time to drop off or pick up your car, and staff have always given me accurate estimates as to how long service will take. read more

These people are amazing. My first ever review written on Yelp, but I just came from Bob's, and I was so impressed I want to let everyone know. I had a small issue, and took it to another shop for a quick fix. They said I'm at the back of a long line, and to go see the front office, they can get me in whenever they are less busy. I called Bob's, and they said they would take a look right away, since it was small. I checked in, and the service manager got one of his guys right away. While I was waiting a brief while, Bob himself came out to greet me; he didn't know me from Adam, but you can tell he's the kind of guy who takes care of his customers. The service tech fixed my issue in about 5 minutes, was very polite, kind and knowledgeable, and the manager told me no charge, Merry Christmas. Best mechanics on the planet. read more

Had my car towed here at the recommendation of a friend. They were pretty busy and said they would fit my car in when they got the chance. They had my vehicle for over a week to call and tell me that something MAY be coming apart in my engine and I MIGHT need a new motor. There was knocking noise, etc. Gave me an estimate of $7,000 - $10,000 basically telling me it would be better to get a new vehicle. My car is a 2014. To replace the motor at this point would be CRAZY. He didn't sound confident in what he was telling me, nor did it seem like they even hooked my car up to get a diagnostic (error codes) to give me details on what the problem was or how it was caused. You have to be able to tell me WHY if you are going to tell me my 6 year old car needs a new motor. I had my car towed from them and sent it to dealer. They called me within a day to tell me my timing chain needed to be replaced *insert side eye here*. Worst case scenario if ALL parts needed, est $1500. Not to mention the $100 fee to tell me nothing and end up sending it to the dealer. If anything, get your vehicle checked at the dealer, send to them for the repair if you choose. Not sure if the cost would be less, but...you'll know what's really going on with your vehicle. read more

It's been more than 10 years now, but long ago I went to them with a bad knocking sound. They tested the cylinders, told me the compression was bad, and I would have to put in a new motor, cost to me between $2.5k and $3k. I'm writing this because the Bobs were both there at the car, observing the diagnosis. I asked them, if the compression is so low it needs a new engine, then how was I able to drive at 60 to get there? The mechanic squirmed and told me to ask Bob, who had walked away by then. Took it to another shop just off High, and the mechanic found a loose bolt, tightened it, and charged me $10 for his time. Back then all we had in town was a consumer column in the paper, but this is a real story, and their TV ads always bring it to mind--how I did myself a favor by moving on. As for their other services, after that day, I couldn't care less. read more

Before doing this review, I have read the 11 reviews posted on Bob's Wheel Alignment web site. I have been a regular customer of Bob's for 36 years involving a Corolla, a Nissan 240z, a BMW 528i, and a Murano. I was attracted to Bob, his son Todd, and his wife as a family running a small repair business in a small town back in 1981. This is the type of business that built America. As a family, Bob treats his mechanics and staff as a family. Speaking of loyalty, commitment to quality work, and integrity, most of his mechanics have been with him for years. This is good for the customer, because after a while they get to know your car and eliminates guesswork. As a regular customer, there have been occasions when I'd barge in and consult Todd, his dad, or any of the mechanics about a car malfunction I have and they'd take time to diagnose, explain, and give their professional opinion at no charge. Yes, their rates have been going up, but so had everything else. Look at their overhead (specialized machines, insurance, taxes, mechanics pay and benefits, etc.) and you'd be surprised at how they manage to stay alive, especially during the slow season. From my years of experience at the shop, there had never been once when I found myself overcharged, cheated, or taken advantage of, especially when my car was towed for emergency repairs. It reached a point when I no longer ask how much; I just have them do the work. Speaking of rude staff, you have Becky and her staff at the front desk constantly under pressure making sure they write down the right information for the right repair. These are hard working and smart thinking people. They work long hours for the customer and the business. I have observed on one occasion a first-time customer come in with a chip on his shoulders expecting quick service. What do you expect them to say or do? They just kept their cool. I've taken my car here for the last 4 years. I was really surprised to see Nathan's review, because I've had nothing but good experiences there. They consistently fix my car at what my husband feels is a fair price (he is thrifty and used to work on cars himself). They rushed my car's repair one day so I could leave in time to drive to a job interview, even though they were having a busy day. It seems to be a family-owned business. I like that it's walking distance to the downtown mall, so I can go there while I wait, but they will also have someone drive you where you need to go (for free) while you wait. read more
