I also tried their chai matcha special and really enjoyed it! I will definitely bring friends or family who are visiting to try these out!

We walked over after exploring the park and grabbed a raspberry rosemary old fashioned donut and apple cobbler donut with a cold brew to wash it down. Loved the tart raspberry icing and the texture of the old fashioned donut was great! It was definitely on the sweeter side especially since it seems like they soak it in a sugar syrup but a nice treat nevertheless. The apple cobbler donut tasted just like an apple pie with a yummy apple compote inside. Definitely still my favorite donuts spot in Portland!

Hubs & I didn't realize they also have a location at PDX Airport (lol). I really wish I'd known of Blue Star Donuts prior because apparently they used to have locations in SoCal =') Our first visit was late afternoon and we happened to snag the second-to-last donut of the day (because everything else was sold out already): the Buttermilk Old-Fashioned. Honestly, hubs & I weren't thinking much of this because we don't usually care for old-fashioned...but my goodness, it was DELICIOUS! Hands down, the best old-fashioned donut I've ever had in my life! It was so good that it was part of the reason I came back to buy more before we left Portland! Second time, we got a few to bring home: -Buttermilk Old-Fashioned, again, the best old-fashioned donut ever! I'm so sad just thinking about how we don't have anything like this closer to home... -Lemon Poppy Seed Old Fashioned, was pretty sweet and though the texture was the same as above and still good, I still think the buttermilk was the best. -The O.G. (Orxata Glaze), the sign said horchata and I was immediately excited. This is the classic "O" donut, and the texture was different from the old-fashioned. I thought it was okay....my favorite still being the buttermilk old fashioned. Restrooms available are clean. They also have a parking lot behind the store, though the street to enter has construction/road closure one way, so you may have to circled around.

Various donuts are displayed in revolving glass cases. Also the prices vary too, depending on the donut. We bought 4 to try at the hotel and we came to the consensus that the apple fritters $4.99 were the best and they were huge. It had a slight crisp to it where the sugar caramelized and although sweet, it was delicious with a cup of tea/coffee. We managed to make another trip and bought a box for the plane. And it was still good the next day when left on the counter. Chilling it will melt the sugar. Overall, this place had some weird donuts which were indicative of the quirky and strange things in Portland.

Walking in less than an hour before closing, we were surprised to see most of the items still in stock! We ended up picking four things to try: Vanilla Bean Kouign Amann ($7) - This pasty has a sweet yet salty exterior that's complementary in flavor rather than clashing. It's accentuated with a crunchy glazed and caramelized sugar layer that's on the sweeter side. The interior is interesting. There's a cavernous gap right in the center that's filled with a sickly sweet melted sugar syrup. It's unpleasantly sweet and very cloying. The puffed and filled area is large enough that it compresses the other layers so the kouign amann is dense. I've never had a kouign amann quite this sweet before. (3/5) Meyer Lemon Olive Oil Cake with Thyme ($5.50) - This cake is so moist and rich, thick and dense, fatty and rich, that it feels like I"m eating a slab of butter. I'm sure it has just as many calories too! It's quite sweet, although not nearly to the level of the kouign amann. Overall, it's just a really rich and decadent cake. (4/5) Blueberry + Vanilla Cream Brioche Donut w/ Earl Grey ($6) - The top of the pastry is dressed with a cream that has an unmistakably strong bergomot earl grey taste. I wish there was way more cream - there's essentially only a dab on top! The rest of the donut is filled with a custardy light blueberry and vanilla jam. It's not too sweet and has an excellent high quality blueberry fragrance, creating an exceptionally strong blueberry taste. The jam is not too thick and is somewhat syrupy from sugar. The donut itself is really soft and extremely airy. It's the fluffiest donut I've eaten in a long time. (5/5) Raspberry Rose Cruffin ($8.50) - This pastry has some fun dehydrated raspberries sprinkled right on top of a light and fluffy cream that's not too sweet. The cruffin base is buttery in taste and great lamination even when filled with the custard and rose/raspberry cream. This is a heavy cruffin that's very filling. (5/5) Twisted Croissant certainly does some some really delectable treats. It's one of my favorite bakeries in Portland!
