Arrived at 10:20 AM on a Thursday. 10 minutes line up just to get to reception. I waited another 95 minutes to have my health card renewed. Absolutely unacceptable. I went to Service Ontario as a "volunteer translator" in June 2019 to help a newcomer family. We had to wait for more than 4 hours. The family had a young child and waiting at this "airless, crowded place was complete torture". The staff seemed to be in stress due to this unpleasant location as well as the crowds. They were either turning people away or treating them with contempt and rushing through their documents only to reject them. I was also amazed that the new immigrants were given 2 choices; either apply for a general ID card or apply for a driving license. (They couldn't have both.) If they said they couldn't think of buying a car and getting a driving license right away, they were offered the other generic ID card with their address. What if their situation changed in the future? Nobody seemed to know. I will recommend everybody to avoid going there if possible. It is not worth the waiting time. Go to Service Ontario on Shephard East or anywhere else. read more

Took me two hours of running back and forth to get the 'right documentation' to prove my Ontario residency because the receptionist did not want to accept my T4, my statements sent from my bank to my home address, my pay stubs (because 'you printed that yourself', even though I got it from my company's HR department) employer's letter because 'the address was not in the body of the paragraph' even though the envelope and letter had my name and address stated clearly. He also told me he 'didn't want to argue with me' when I asked him why the documents were not acceptable just so I understand the rationale behind it, and walked away to get someone else to talk to me. I continue to have terrible experiences with Service Ontario. I just had the most frustrating discussion on the phone with an agent who refused to listen to me, and then hung up on me. Brutal, brutal, brutal. I can't believe my tax dollars go to this horrible organization. read more

ServiceOntario is a really good effort to try and get people government services in a reasonably efficient way. They are pretty helpful and friendly generally, and you can tell they are trying. Its a tricky system, and still remains inefficient, but you can tell they are trying to get you through the process. You will have to wait, but, you might not have to wait that long, and I've felt like there are improvements over time. read more

Mixed experience overall. One staff member stood out for being professional and courteous whilst three others were rude, incompetent and slow. Get their early and be prepared to have all your documents ready and possibly more if you get a staff member who feels like making a point about their level of authority. I would give it a one overall - it really took three people plus numerous calls to their help centre to figure out how to get me a simple document which I could have told them reading their own guidelines - but one staff member was too nice to completely fail them! read more

I'm a fan for the downtown location. Most of the time I do not have an issue using this location. If I am with a client I have gotten priority for the line-up which I appreciate greatly. But my last visit with a client almost was a disaster. I had to become very firm and advocate hard for my client because we had been told to bring in a piece of mail from home. He only had junk mail because his bills get sent to my office, hence the agency's address on the mail!! Finally I disclosed my client's medical health issue and she finally accepted his piece of mail so we could proceed with renewing his very expired OHIP card. read more

As a proud Aboriginal woman I was appalled by the archaic, discriminatory "service" I received at the 777 Bay Street location Thursday February 1st. I was there to replace my red and white card with the current version. When I got to counter # 13 and offered my Ontario ID card as well as my Indian Status Card the young man behind the counter looked at my Status card and stated " I can't accept this; you need a birth certificate or citizenship papers!! I told him that it WAS acceptable documentation and showed him that the Indian Status card was 3rd on a list that was posted on his counter. I was so hurt and angered that this type of ignorance could still exist in 2018! (As a counsellor back in 1996 I had a similar experience when a client's Status card was rejected at the Toronto General Hospital. He took my picture, then had to leave the station because he didn't know how to enter the card information!!. I told him I planned to report this incident...and he had the audacity to say "what incident"? !!! He returned after a 10 minute wait, mumbling something about having a hard time finding someone who knew what to do !!! Then his computer went down and he said I could wait or he could take my phone number and call me.!! I went for lunch and just as I was thinking about going elsewhere to replace my card, he called. He had to take another picture, which was probably a good idea, as I am sure I must have looked as upset as I felt in the first one. I have emailed the CEO to suggest proper procedural training when Indian Status cards are presented as valid documentation, Many Aboriginal people have difficulty dealing with "authority figures" due to the inter generational impact of the Residential Schools and I wonder how many have just walked away without receiving services due to the ignorance and insensitivity of staff. How can we hope for Reconciliation when situations like this are still happening? ......I wish I had kept my old red and white OHIP card a little while longer. read more

I arrived here later in the day to renew my OHIP card. The staff were polite, and since I had a letter to prove my address, some photographic ID, and my old OHIP card, everything went incredibly smoothly. I recommend bringing some reading material, since even on a rather empty day (Friday, around 3pm) the line was still about twenty minutes long. read more

It could not get any worst. I have being trying to renew my Health Card and on three different times they have asked for totally different documents to demonstrate that I live in Ontario. Utility bills, Driver License , Citizenship Card and Passport are not enough for this bureaucracy. Because my card had expired six months ago ( do not check it unless I need to see a Doctor) , they have "the right" to ask for whatever document they feel would like to see.It is not only inefficient but also abusive.I am filing a legal complaint as a taxpayer , certainly have the right to have my health Card wit out harassment and in my view, receiving a discriminatory attention read more

Trouble Service, I got my DZ truck licence on Apr 23, at the Drive center Newmarket, I ask for Abstract and CVOR as I need it for the company that it was going to hiring me, I been told that I have to go to Service Ontario which I did, I went Service Ontario in Newmarket Davis @ young They Print me GZ instead of DZ !? I release what the hell is this I Never heard of GZ in my life, any way I call Service Ontario hot line They said your DZ its not showing in the system they told me go to the same location / Newmarket, till them to do it Manually it will take day or 2 and I don't think that they will charge u again, so I went and I toll them to do it Manually at first the lady in Service Ontario looked at me like I am an stupid, she said she never heard of it, I insist to check, after all she spoke to her manager and the manager said we don't have this form here, I been told to go service Ontario in Aurora 50 Bloomington St , here I am and I still having Problem getting my Abstract and CVOR I been over 4 times in SSService OOOntario and Over an hour each time, the last time I been in Service Ontario was yesterday May 01, and I still having problem getting my Abstract and CVOR. went yesterday to get a new OHIP card (had been out of country) Was in and out in 40 minutes, over lunch hour on a Thursday. Didn't have an appointment. One weakness in the process - not responsibility of front line staff - is desire for paper statements from Bank or Utility to prove address. So many places no longer send paper statements so I was delayed applying. Also the disconnect between no stamp in my Canadian passport to show my arrival date back in Canada. My employer in Toronto provided a letter testifying to my start date here so that worked but wished I had kept my boarding pass or the printed receipt that Canadian passport holders now get at immigration in Pearson. read more

I went in recently to have my plate stickers renewed and had a terrible experience - not surprising given all my previous experiences with them. Even after I called beforehand to ensure I had all the correct information and brought all the proper documents, I arrived only to find out that I was provided with the wrong information. The employees there were rude and condescending and everyone gave conflicting information and advice. On top of that, it is extremely obvious that the employees hate their jobs and the customers, and don't seem to be familiar with basic politeness. read more

Just moved from Newfoundland to cochrane Ontario. I had to transfer my drivers licence called motor registration Ontario to asked what I needed I was informed it was privatetize I had to go to one office to get my license then to service ontario for my picture then they take my license from newfoundland and my ontario license would arrive up to six weeks I asked what would i need for identification to get my drivers license they informed me i would need my birth certificate and my drivers license from newfoundland on my way i go wait in line up for 30 minutes my number gets called was told my birth certificate was no good my married name wasn't on it so i asked so what do i do she reply i have to get a copy of my married certificate i ask you mean from the church i married in she said that would be ok so i call my minister back east to send a copy asap he mails a copy i go to this privatized place again waits another 30 minutes get to the line up different girl marriage certificate no good has to be from vital stats canada go home call vital stats has a copy mailed to me same story go again to this place show her my marriage certificate she now tells me i need original copy of my drivers abstract faxcopy was no good call newfoundland motor registration ask them to send me an original copy of drivers abstract go back again wait in line for 30 minutes you would think i would have everything now i have my drivers license from newfoundland my birth certificate my marriage certificate my original drivers abstract no still not good enough now i have to get a letter of reference from motor registration in newfoundland confirming how long i have been driving even though it shows on my drivers license so i call motor registration again asking them to send me a letter of confirmation they think its a joke never heard of such nonsense i receive the letter today but can't go get my license because i am travelling out of province and need my drivers license for picture id like i said before they take your old drivers license and you may not get your new one for up to 6 weeks so i have to wait until i get back from vacation i have been working at this since april just ridiculous and also i would like to add the young lady at the private license center was very rude and couldn't care less if you got your license or not read more

Worst. Because of the employees wrote my address wrong after i applied for my health card, i now have a rejected OHIP claim and will have to go to "Service" Ontario and wait for hours for them to fix it. This is after I tried to call 3 times and was hung up on. Horrible system. All because one stupid person wrote my address wrong, i now owe $163.90. You would think since it was their mistake they'd be a little more helpful. read more
