I was a little surprised at the fact that not a single review was greater than 1 star. After suffering for years with poor Centurylink internet and then having a Centurylink support person tell me something he wasn't supposed to ("your area needs a larger fiber drop, and it's not in the plan at this time"). I moved my internet service over to SECTV and that's what I recommend to others in my area. I pay for 30mbps down and get 29.3 consistently. But I do this for a living and there are some things to consider: 1. The modem they give you does need to be reset everytime they increase the speed, but they have no excuse for not trying to root out obsolete equipment. But when given the modem info they quickly provide a replacement. 2. One of the things that slows the SECTV downloads down is the minor upload speed. I found this one out when uploading my mac photos to iCloud, So for 30 Mbps down, it's only 3 Mbps upload, and when the tech looked into my modem he said the modem was so busy (pegged) doing the upload, it negatively affected the downloads. That why Verizon FiOS talks so much about the same download and upload speeds. 3. My house was built in 2002, all new wiring and an undeground cable right to the cable connection on the pole, often older wiring, older splitters make a mess out of internet and cable. 4. They are pretty expensive and I don't fully understand the options (like why NFL Redzone is in a package with a bunch of other channels no one cares about). 5. Their TVAnywhere apps are quite varied come with your service and I've watched many a Yankee game on Yes using Fox SportsGO and my phone form somewhere other than home. So they have issues but for scenic Sussex County they do provide a wide variety of services. read more

I was warned about Optimum, not being reliable. Well, they were rioght, Cable has been out since Sunday and itf you check their "Outage map", it still says "Pending assesment" If I was that bad at work, you can bet, I would be FIRED. Obviously they do not care about their customers, you have been warned read more

Service Electric Cable - this has been the same for 3 days - Television Service Providers Near Me - Sparta, New Jersey

Very overpriced, don't give a damn about customers for service or otherwise. Customer should not have to travel to their location to get customer service. They also don't follow through with getting things done correctly. read more

I have been using optimum for a year. My internet goes out about 5-10 times per day. I got the 1 gig that comes with 2 extenders. One of the extenders now has to remain plugged into the router making it obsolete. Around 50% of the time the technicians will no show. I've even been hung up on when I called customer service to complain about a no show. Unfortunately there are no decent internet providers in the area. read more

This company really is a joke. They have no actual competition so they don't innovate or offer any good service. they make you pay more then the normal pricing for half the speed that competitors in other areas offer. They throttle your connection on a regular basis to try to force you to pay more for a larger package you shouldn't need if you got anywhere near the speeds advertised. It shouldn't be too long before they are forced to allow competition in the area and they get destroyed by companies that know how it's done. This is the definition of a company that is just trying to get as much money out without putting any money back in. A failing business through and through. The picture posted is apparently what 100 MB. download and 10 MB. upload look like from service electric. I have called multiple times to try and have the solution resolved and nothing as far as a response for almost two weeks. read more

Clarity on price, data services, account setup, installation timing and installation fees all seem to have room for improvement. The representative I spoke with was polite but the service provider as an organization deserves 1 star only. read more

Sad that this pathetic excuse for a business is somehow being given exclusive rights to Sussex county (I'd love to know which wizard came up with that idea and how much of a kick-back they got) I've been on hold with these fucktards for almost an hour trying to report that my internet is down. I know that when they finally pickup- we'll go through the whole "let's reboot your modem and router" crap. Duh. Wonder if I tried that BEFORE I called? Hmm, yeah, I did The hold music is absolutely ridiculous, by the way. Sounds like the soundtrack to a '70s porno with an annoying lady extolling the virtues of the "nation's FIRST cable company." With any luck I'll move OUT of Sussex county and get FiOS or CableVision because these jokers are the absolute worst. read more

Truly horrendous customer service now that Optimum has bought them. Unbelievable third world customer treatment. Gave me a TEN HOUR window for service-no showed me. Another day 3 hour window-no showed me again. Called today to ask for the credit they claim to offer because I had no service for TEN DAYS: denied! The "system denies you"! WTH! It would be laughable except it is an example of what this company gets away with. God help us. read more

Called to review my bill since it increased significantly, I asked why there was an increase and the response was "we increase our pricing every year, it's a thing". So I cancelled my cable since I rarely use it. I asked my new bill amount, it was $30 more than expected so inquired as to why. "Well you cancelled your cable so we increased the cost of your internet." I said excuse me, it's already ran, functioning and I didn't gain any advantage or speed or anything and there's literally no cost to you, how can you do that? "It is what it is" was her response. The cost of the internet alone is $50, it almost doubled! They are gonna put themselves out of business, it's a shame, I know a couple of their employees and they are really great people. Going to be a shame when they lose their jobs because of horrible business practices. read more

Cannot believe that I called last week because my WiFi keeps cutting out , and was told someone would get back to me Monday, today . No one called . I called and was told it would be three weeks before anyone could come out to look at my WiFi. My husband works from home. My son is finishing up college classes for the semester online . Are you freaking kidding me ??????????? I have to say I never had a problem when it was SECTV, now that optimum is in the pic, I guess everything went to hell. I pay over $200 a month for their gateway modem. Guess who is not paying for this month ? read more

I am pretty sure that any customer of Service Electric is actually just a reality show to see how much ridiculousness one is willing to put up with. To say that this company is unprofessional is an utter understatement. I'm beginning to think no one is actually employed here. The highlight of my day is to be on hold for 45 minutes only to have someone pick up and "accidentally" hang up on me. If internet and cable was run by the government, Service Electric would be the Gold Standard. I remember having less issues with dial up. Like others have said the monopoly that this company has in Sussex County due to someone lining their pockets is absolutely abhorrent. read more

Service electric sparta cannot reconnect your television unless it is a business day!!!! All the money they make on their customers and no service available on the weekend??????? Other locations do but not Sparta!!!!! Very bad customer service; all it takes is a tech to reset the cable. read more

Now that Altice/Optimum is in the picture I thought it would be worth looking into cable. Apparently the companies have not fully switched over so you have to deal with SECTV. After multiple lengthy hold times with the sales department the receptionist tersely stated, "the hold times are 45 minutes since it was announced the company was sold" then she promptly placed me on hold again. I feel bad for the employees. They take the brunt of the complaints. The outgoing owners appear not to be motivated to hire adequate staffing. read more

ZERO STARS!!!!! The worst customer service ever! After 4 weeks of waiting/calling, they have not returned our calls or answered any questions. I am not sure how forwarding our customer service questions towomen in India can get the job done? How about a phone extention to the construction dept that left a cable across the top of our lawn posing a tripping hazard?? Apparently, they have NO managers/supervisors that you are allowed to speak to to resolve ongoing repair requests. It doesn't matter that you were a customer for 25 years. read more

This company is the worstest. High prices, frequent problems with cable TV reception, and pathetic on-demand offerings. My biggest problem is with their lack of communication. I have had no services (phone/internet/cable) for the past six days following a snow storm. They refuse to give me an estimated repair time. All they will tell me, day after day, is, "We do hope it will be very soon." I do hope that they go out of business very soon. read more

Addendum: It happened again (7/29). Internet and phone dropped out for an extended period of time, about an hour. Thanks to the shutdown, we're doing some work from home. Internet accessibility is a MUST during business hours. No one in the Sparta office seems to be aware of this, or care about it very much. Service tech was as friendly as he could be. Blamed my problem on a "too tight" cable into the modem. The cable was attached by the last service tech to visit. I believe the band-aids, string, duct tape, and baling wire holding this fly-by-night outfit together are starting to fail. I'll try to contact Altice. They need to know their new customers are absolutely fed up with this broken down monopoly that has had Sparta in a vice for years and years. read more

THE ABSOLUTE WORST. THE slowest internet at the highest price possible. ZERO stars if I could, NO way this can be real can it? They are so bad its scary ... and they answer to NO ONE. Go ahead - call for help with internet speed. They play the blame game read more

This is not so mush a review as a warning. If you live in Sussex County, NJ, if you require cable, you have no choice but to use SECTV. The county recently signed an agreement with them allowing them to be a monopoly. This means that for the next 10 years, you will not even have the option of getting someone like Time-Warner Cable {now dba Spectrum}. DirecTV offers a far better service, but after the promo period, their prices skyrocket. DishTV is comparable to DirecTV, with better prices, but I got rid of them when I realized that the install tech forged my signature on the Terms of Service contract. I filed a complaint with the BBB and DishTV was pretty much forced to refund the early termination fee. Just thought you should know... read more

This is, by far, the worst possible exscuse for a utility. Actually, it is the worst business I have ever had the displeasure of experiencing. Their prices are disgustingly high for what they provide in way of cable TV. As for internet, think of the most worthless piece of garbage you have ever come across, and you are just scratching the surface of this excrement-filled company. They don't come within miles of reaching even the lowest speed tier they pretend to offer, and they have four higher teirs. Trust me when I say the view their customers as trash, and are laughing all the way to the bank. Every day they are allowed to operate is an offense against decency. read more

The absolute worst utility I have ever had the displeasure to work with. If I had any other options for "high speed" internet, I would switch in a heartbeat. There are some nice people at customer service who genuinely try to help. There are others who won't give you the time of day. After-hours, all internet service calls get routed to PenTeleData, and Service Electric will point their finger at them every chance they get when there is an issue, and vice versa ( PenTeleData is the company used if you have a Business account, and they both do a great job of blurring the lines of who is responsible for what - its always the others fault ). Over the three physical locations I've had SEBC's/PenTeleData's service in the two years i've been in this county, I have had non-stop issues. I have customer service on speed dial at this point. I've had the modem replaced several times, had multiple technician visits. I've had both my house's and my business's internal and external infrastructure completely rewired and still receive absolutely inconsistent, garbage connections that drop incessantly. Some of the technicians they send out are also genuinely nice and work very hard to try and solve the problems, good people doing their job. Others, not so much - they clearly are numb to dealing with the constant issues, knowing there is nothing they can do. One technician came over wreaking of marijuana and was clearly under the influence on the job. I didn't report him at the time because I honestly felt bad for him, having to deal with such a ridiculous company. And he was actually the one guy who seemed to know what he was talking about and gave me real tangible numbers ( packets sent / lost, signal strength, etc ) on what was going on with my lines. Told me straight up the lines are fine and the service is just bad, simple as that. Never once have I been offered an actual explanation as to the nature of these issues, and the issues are consistent and continue to this day, all day, every day. I would not recommend this utility to my worst enemy, but sadly, if you live in certain areas of Sussex County, you have no other options unless you go with a satellite provider or resort to dialup. My phone wirelessly tethered to my computer is 1000 times more reliable than the internet line hardwired to my house, which is ridiculous. My cable modem is currently connected directly to the pole with brand new cables, no splitters, no old, bent or rotting lines - there is absolutely no excuse for service this bad. Ugh, writing this and thinking about Service Electric makes me physically sick. I rely on internet to run my business and every time it goes down it costs me time and money. And if you are reading this, and you have no other options for internet like we do, I honestly feel for you. Their solid 1 star rating speaks for itself. read more

My cable box crapped out in Thanksgiving. No tech support available until Monday and office in Sparta is closed until Monday so WTF can I do while they have a 4 day vacation. Overpriced shit service horrible antiquated cable and gross mismanagement from the CEO down. Anyone agree with me? read more

Alright I'm going to sound illiterate when I say this but yo this fucking internet is garbage holy shit - Where is FiOS at because god damn optimum /garbage electric is probably the worst internet provider I've yet to encounter. I can not believe this dinosaur of a company can survive, other than someone getting greased when their contract comes up for renewal. The Queen of Cable (GM) thinks customers do not deserve a call back Had two technicians tell me 2 different things, and the office tell me something else..They need to service rural PA where they might be appreciated, get the he11 out of NJ, nd let a real cable co show you how its done. read more

Absolutely awful. I work for a tech company remotely and one of the things I rely on to do my job is the internet. The service is atrocious and they nickle n' dime you on EVERYTHING. I'm paying over $200 for only 100mbps Download and 10mbps upload speeds and I DONT EVEN GET THAT! ill be lucky with half of what I pay for and even then those are horrible speeds for an astonishing price. This compmany is monopolizing my area to and no other providers for some reason are willing to come out here even though I'm certain we are all sick of the shitty service and would jump on just about any other service's client list. read more

By far the worse company service. Now they change provider to Optimum and nothing has changed. Their customer service is shameful, they tool channels that we are paying for and no one picks up the phone to resolve the issue. Next step is a call to corporate because obviously from reading reviews on all types of social media, someone is not doing their job. read more

I would love to post a zero start review (that would be a first for me). After numerous attempts via phone and in person to try to get an estimate for the cost of installing cable and internet into our new home to no response/reply/or "I see it's in our system but they haven't completed the work" I am happy to announce that I will be using T-Mobile for my internet and cutting the cord on cable (unless that won't suit and then I will again use T-Mobile to fill that void also). I have had a lot going on in the last two years between new baby, the pandemic, and now new home to prevent me from writing reviews (as such losing my Elite status) but it doesn't mean I don't care or don't want my fellow Yelpers in the loop. Service Electric gives poor poor service and the merger with Optimum means nothing (hell the prices are the same?!?!? If Optimum owns them why is Sparta still paying double for half the internet speeds and less channel). read more

We were trapped with a single service provider in Newton - Service Electric. As so many reviews state here, customer service was barely available and outages, which we had many times a month on our internet service for which we rely for our income, were never dealt with in a timely fashion. The only way to get any semblance of a confirmation that it was them and not us was to call PennTelData to tell them that we were down so that they could try to get somebody at the switching center to fix the problem. So much effort for very little return. Now we have Planet Network fiber and the customer service is excellent, the service hasn't gone down that we could tell since we installed it and the price is the same, but with more speed, actually more than we need at their minimum package. What a relief! But back to the point about Service Electric's customer service. After a couple of months of trying out Planet Networks, we decided to kick Service Electric to the curb. We called to cancel our service twice and they just kept billing us. Then, when they fully transitioned to Optimum, who bought them, we couldn't even get customer service on until we paid our balance in full - a balance we felt we didn't owe since we confirmed that we wanted to close our account. Didn't matter - if you wanted to talk to a human, you better pay up first, otherwise, no dice. So, it seemed clear that we made not only the right choice but a happy choice as well. I feel terrible for anyone in a situation where there's only one service provider and they are not as good as they could be. We were very, very lucky to have had the option to use a cooly professional company like Planet Networks. No one should expect perfection from anything - even the electric power goes out once in a great while. But Service Electric didn't rise to the level of responsibility that one could expect from a public utility, which for most people, an internet provider is, in my opinion. And my opinion based on limited interation with Optimum is that Optimum seems to be fully capable of carrying forward that tradition, which is also sad. Optimum offered me service credits and discounts to induce us to stay - that after explaining that we tried to close the account for four months. I half expect them to keep on billing me since on this third try, I still haven't received a confirmation . . . So, do yourself a favor - exercise your options and check out the local solution that really seems to have their stuff together - Planet Networks is the solution to that problem. read more

Over priced for cable service, No monthly specials to help you save money, horrible remote controls that don't work after a limited amount of time( took two hours to turn on my tv with remote). Need another cable company up here. A very good company from Essex County (Comcast Cable ) excellent service, w/Fios high speed internet connections, always running monthly cable specials. The package I'm getting up here that is costing me about $200.00 , w/ Comcast w/900 channels, sports, HBO, Show Time ,Nat Geo, Western Channel, and more was only $90.00 a month with two cable boxes internet and phone. I enquired to Comcast do they have service in the Sussex Area, they said no not at this time. I informed them about SEC. was the only game in town and if they extended their service up in the Sussex, Wantage and Newton area ,there business would explode over night. read more

They raise their prices for cable every year WITHOUT FAIL (and the service is no better) If you don't like SEC, you can get Direct TV or a string and a dixie cup. Whatever happened to competition? Don't try calling during normal business hours. You might be on hold for 30 minutes. read more

I can't comment on the customer service issues that others have experienced, because I haven't needed to contact customer service! I have been an internet customer of Service Electric for about 6 months now, and have nothing but praise for the service. I am in the Blairstown area of Warren County, and have the Ultra internet service. It has operated flawlessly since day 1, and consistently provides download speeds of 100+Mbps. This is amazing compared to the CenturyLink DSL service I used to have, which was previously the only game in town. Also, they have just upgraded their broadband infrastructure, and I recently hit 140Mbps. I realize that their cable runs are not available to everyone, but it's definitely worth checking out. I withheld the 5th star for 2 reasons: it's a bit expensive (but still worth it) and, if you are internet only, you need to supply and configure your own router, which may be challenging for some. Otherwise, THANK YOU Service Electric! read more

Service Electric Cable is an absolute disgrace. I switched to their service & in a month and a half the service worked about 4 days of it. I had a tech out 3 times during that time and every time it was a "different issue". I dealt with it so long because i had to take an entire day off of work because their "window" is so big of when they will arrive. When I finally called to cancel the service all toghether & explained why, the lady on the phone said she would take care of it. Now to find out they sent me to collections for $87.29. I have called today for the 3rd time & eveytime they say someone will call back. each time so far when i call back again, they say their is a note stating i had the service for over a month, nothing about it not working. I'm now waiting for a return call AGAIN. read more
