I needed a hair cut and decided to search out a small "mom & pop" local shop to get a haircut. I'm a firm believer in "supporting local." That's exactly what I received at Shea's. Uhngi is a one person operation. Excellent customer service and a fantastic haircut at a reasonable price. I was very pleased and extremely satisfied. Highly recommended. I will defiantly return for a haircut the next time I'm in the neighborhood. Mahalo Uhngi!

She used to work at a large Westerly establishment and then took off to start her own gig. One day she called me up to tell me to come on over and become a customer. I really can't judge hair cut quality. I'm a middle aged male who wears his hair short and gets it cut every 4-5 weeks. It can't be too hard to cut my hair. But this is what I like about Uhngi...she complains about the places that charge $30 to cut men's hair. In her own way, she is implying that the client is getting ripped off, i.e., it's an easy hair cut, not too much skill required, not too much hair to cut, etc. And for these reasons, $30 is overpriced for the work performed. For $18 at Uhngi Shea's, I get a great cut...care and attention to detail, good advice about my hair. I always tip her, and why shouldn't I? With a tip, my cost is still about 30% lower than the rest of the local salons. Overall, I've been very satisfied with Uhngi since I first became a client. I don't always get my hair cut in Westerly, but when I do, I get it cut at Uhngi Shea's.

I received a gift certificate for Christmas, so my mom and I made an appt for a cut/style for me and a glaze treatment for my mom. I was nervous because I couldn't find any reviews for my stylist, so I figured I would write one. Jessica Lach is AWESOME!! She has been a stylist for 20 years, and she is up to date on techniques, cuts, color, treatments, etc... She gave me the exact hair cut I wanted, and my mom's (chemically straightened) hair looked gorgeous!! Jessica took her time giving us meticulous service. My mom and I are the toughest critics out there, so for us to both walk out happy is nothing short of a miracle. I'm a people watcher by nature, so I was taking in the other happenings in the salon as well. I noticed the other stylist ( also named Jessica) gave two amazing cuts/ color while I was there; she does beautiful work on loyal clients. The whole staff is independent but they all seemed to work well together concerning walk in appts and supportive of one another in general. I've been to some real catty places, so the no-tension deal felt pretty nice. There's also two massage therapists upstairs, and I saw two clients leave happy. The waiting area is cozy, very clean, and has really comfy chairs. The only reason I didn't give a 5th star is walk-ins are "welcome", but I saw people get turned away or have a long wait. It's not even a guarantee the salon will be open at all, as all stylists are independent and make their own hours. I strongly suggest calling ahead and making an appt so you're not disappointed. There is also no social media site for the current status of the salon, so I couldn't find any reviews or portfolios online, which made me uneasy going in. Girls like to do their homework when it comes to our hair!!!! Other than that, I had a fantastic experience with my mom, and I will definitely go back to Jessica Lach. Her number is 860-576-4192.

I have pretty high standards for salons and so I was a bit nervous to try this place out. I was very pleasantly surprised. Professionalism of the stylist is rated as excellent. Jessica is experienced and uses unto date methods and products. She listens carefully to what you ask for and delivers it. Good hair wash, cut and style. My husband noticed my hair style and gave a nice complement when I came home... need I say more. Pricing for the quality is very good. Other stylists in this independent salon seem to get along well making for a pleasant atmosphere. They work to make it clean and neat. I held back a perfect score because scheduling took a bit of back and forth on voicemail, although, they do take walk-ins. You schedule directly with the stylist and Jessica's phone 860-576-4192. Apparently asking for clean cuticles and freshly shaped nails is an odd and unwelcome selection at Nail Icon. Basically ALL of the technicians are rude & unprofessional--to essentially everyone who walks into the establishment. My 20 dollar manicure lasted 6 minutes & 2 seconds. It involved no soaking. No massage. No oil for my cuticles. And, my bonus gift? Three cuticles on different nails were left bloody. Oh, it's THE NO FUN CLUB here. DO NOT WASTE YOUR MONEY. Suki put a base polish and another clear layer on top of that before the initial coat dried. And when I asked them to fix one clunky nail that had too much product at the tip, they suggested I did it. Ummm, how? I remained in the chair and hadn't moved. Just awful.
