This is a dip manicure removal and French manicure from Serenity. The technician rushed through my appointment, and applied the top coat before the French tip dried, which led to the blurring. You can also see that the lines are not even to begin with. Yu can also see that my cuticles are still not in great shape and on the index finger of my right hand, it had been trimmed to the point where it has bled. It seemed like the technician was rushing through the appointment. As a new resident of Bloor West village I'm really disappointed and will not be going back. read more

Worst. Customer. Service. Ever. Wanted a mani pedi. They didn't have time for a full mani which was fine. I chose my colour and then they changed it. Then they moved me to dry my toes under this thing that was low to the ground. They didn't help me get under it correctly and I bumped one of my toes requiring them to fix it. They blamed me for it. Then tried to pay...don't take credit card which is ok. But then wouldn't let me tip using my debit card. Again they made me feel like crap the whole time. Brutal. read more

Didn't have a great experience here. I got the shellac manicure by OPI, which I was told would last up to TWO weeks, no chipping. They chipped a day later :(. It was very busy and my friend and I asked them to check our nails. They did and said they were done, but when we were getting ready to go, the polish smudged. We politely asked them to fix our nails and they said they would, just to sit tight. SO we did. For forty-five minutes! When they finally came over to fix it, I mentioned that it was unacceptable for them to make us wait that long to fix it and the manager became very defensive. She didn't make the situation right for us at all. At the end of this, the price for a mani-pedi was $55! Twice as much as Lucy's Nails, where I usually go and not nearly as good. I went to pay with debit, when I was informed that it would be $62 if I did so! Unreal! So I went to the bank to take out money. When I returned, I waited for five minutes for someone to come to the counter and take my money, but no one did so I put the money on the counter and walked out. Also, no top-coat here. Not this time anyway. You'd be wise to try Lucy's nails instead. read more

I've had mixed feelings about Serenity Nails & Spa. For one thing: I've had manicures and pedicures there numerous times and the staff is friendly, the environment is clean, and my nails always come out looking great. (The pedicures, especially, leave your skin feeling so soft.) However, I DO NOT, repeat, DO NOT recommend the waxing or other "spa" services they offer. I went in to get my eyebrows waxed quickly as I had another place to be (otherwise I would have gone to a different location further from my house, Ana's Nail Spa, that is the queen of eyebrows). The woman who did my eyebrows was the owner. She hurried me downstairs to a tiny room that looked like a doctor's office. The phone was glued to her ear as she tried to wax my eyebrows as quickly as possible. She didn't wait for the wax to cool before placing it on my skin. I was also surprised that she didn't ask questions about my skin before pouring the wax on it. I think it was totally unprofessional to talk on the phone while you're performing a service for a paying customer. Long story short, my eyebrows are burned and swollen. I'm extremely displeased with the service I received at Serenity, and will definitely not be back in the future. Word to the wise - Ana's Nail Spa is just a few blocks up and much more personal, friendly, and of higher quality. read more

This place is a great find, situated right in Bloor West Village near Jane street. Modern, comfortable atmosphere and premium feeling inside. Everyone is very friendly, professional and precise. Facilities are kept very clean - lots of cleaning stations at the back to keep the tools hygienic, plus you can request your own personal box for file and buffer if you plan on being a regular customer (I've been about 5 times now). Although it's not obvious on their website, they do offer OPI Axxium (soak off UV gel lacquer) and it is $30 for a full set (includes removal of old Axxium or other polish and a basic mani to clean things up) - a WICKED price plus they are great at applying it, especially Kelly (one of the main manicurists). At the moment they have about 18 colours of the Axxium in stock which is great. Paying with cash is the best deal. They are open until 7pm every evening, and are open on nearly every holiday, except for Christmas day. This place offers great service for an even better price - I'm a faithful customer from now on. read more

I have been coming here for a year and I have always encountered friendly staff. The staff works hard at making you comfortable and you're in and out in a reasonable time. An appointment is recommended and I've never had to wait when I arrive. It's clean and its right at the Jane Subway stop. The prices for their services are reasonable. I really wanted to Love this place. I gave them three chances with different people. I get Bio Sculpture nails and have gone there to get them filled three times. I have been getting them done for years and have been to many places. This place has a clean and quiet environment that I quite enjoy. They are fast and professional. The prices are amazing and they take walk ins. BUT, Every time I go my manicure chips, breaks, or peel off in a week. I go back in for repairs a week later ( they charge for?) and they break and peel again in a week. The Bio gel's usually last me 3- 4 weeks and never chip. I have never had it last more then 5 days here without going back to get repairs. It ends up costing me more in the long run. That being said, they are great with basic mani- pedi's or simple gel polishes. If you get Bio Sculpture I would go elsewhere. read more

The women provide excellent service. Pedicures perfect, nails marvelous. Prices comparable. But if you wish personal professionalism and warm personalities while being serviced, then it's not for you. The manager is very harsh. I have been going for many years, so perhaps that's why I'm treated like we don't care and you'll have to deal. But I believe it does not matter how long you have been going. You should be treated as if it's the first time. Unfortunately personality means a lot to me and I think I'll be looking for a new home for my nails. read more

I've been going to serenity for years now, and I probably won't go anywhere else but i've learned that you get what you pay for. They will make you wait a very long time for a booked appointment, and they usually are very understaffed. However, my nails have always been done very good and I have always been satisfied. I also get waxed here and it's super quick and painless (most of the time). But once again, you get what you pay for. If you want somewhere on bloor that will be quick and won't keep you waiting, then serenity isn't for you. read more

Come from downtown and battle the traffic - because they are THAT good for nails. I've always done gel and they "nail" it no pun intended. Always 150% perfect. last longer than anywhere else. best colour selection I've ever seen in or outside the city or country, great magazines, shiny clean and so comfortable I've fallen asleep! Had to cheat on Mary, Kelly and Michelle a couple times just to to busy scheduling and traveling for work - and have always regretted it. I have been coming to this salon for 5 years. Whenever I try a new place downtown closer to where I now live - I regret it because NO ONE does my BIO GEL NAILS the way this place does! Sam was always my go-to girl, but she left a coupe of years ago and now Lena is my girl. She is incredible and I recommend everyone to ask for her if you want perfect gel nails. This place is clean, it's serene, and has a calming, quiet environment. I've gone to other popular salons downtown like, Urban Nails, Yeti, Beautyline, etc but they are so chaotic and the opposite of a spa-like ambiance. They are very detailed. - First you get a gentle manicure to clean your cuticles (I ask for this to be done BEFORE the gel applications. To each their own) - They clean your nail and polish it. - After EVERY coating they file to even it out. - I love that they file down the part near your cuticle so that you don't get a lump there when the nails grow out. - They apply the glue to the tips and not your nail (this is IMPORTANT! trust me) and they cut it with a proper cutter, not SCISSORS! - I get french, and they apply this before the final coat with so much precision. Then it all gets filed again to make it even and apply the final coat. End result is a beautifully, even layered and STRONG nail. Pricing is pretty standard. $50 for full set of Bio-Gels. I get an manicure in there for an additional $5. I actually find their pricing better than other places the quality is un equaled. With all of that hard work, naturally this is about 1 1/2 to 1 /45min in the chair. It might seem like a long time, but it's because of all the detail that goes into the work that requires a long sit time. However, my nails will last me a good month and 1/2 (with care and filing on my part). I've never been able to do that with any other salon. read more

Reading the mid-to-negative reviews has left me a little baffled... I've been going to this salon for two years, and have since moved across the city and still make the trek back because they do such a good job. Ask for Michelle or Mary. Michelle, in particular, is the best as she takes her time and checks the small details. I have UV Biogels and they last over three weeks. Pedicures can last over two weeks without chipping. In addition, the salon is very clean, bright, and friendly. read more

I keep going here thinking that maybe it'll be better next time, but it never is. It's location is convenient to me and that's about it. I get UV Gel nails done, I've had them on for about 2 years. I usually go to Lucy Nails in the Junction but because I work in Bloor West Village, its most convenient. I know what I like done with my nails and because I work with my hands I prefer them to look normal and how I feel comfortable. They're my hands, I live with them, I want them the way I like them. Every time I ask for a UV Gel fill, they try and sell me on something different (solar or bio). It seems like none of the girls that I've had there know exactly how to do UV Gel. It's either applied too thick, too thin (so that it chips within 2 days) or its lumpy and uneven. When they file the old gel off with the Dremel drill, they do not take care to stay away from the skin around the nail and therefore burn that skin. Then when applying the new UV Gel onto the nail, they do not take care to remain on the nail and just slather it on all over. Because of them filing off the first layer of skin around the nail first, the UV Gel burns and itches when it's applied unevenly all over the tip of my finger. Then when the UV Gel dries, they file the tip of the nail. To get to the now dried shut sides of the nail, they split and peel the gel, which once made my finger bleed. Thank god I know how to take care of myself or it would have turned into an infection. I prefer having rounded nail tips but they don't seem to understand what that means so I usually end up with some square hybrid that isn't even filed evenly. By this point I'm past the point of arguing anything else from the very defensive manicurists so I go home and file them to the shape I prefer. The final coat of clear gel they put on before the colour must be old because it's always incredibly thick coming out of the bottle. The girl always has to scrape the bottom of the bottle to get whatever is left, it seems. Not only that but as soon as the colour layer goes on, that clear gel coat bubbles underneath. It then has to be removed entirely and either reapplied just peeled off. The UV dryers that they have are so tiny, they only should fit one hand at a time but they insist on putting both in, one on top of the other. This way it's nearly impossible not to mistakenly touch a wet nail and have it smudge. I've never understood this reasoning. Shouldn't a manicure facility be equipped with the proper tools? My patience with the lack of skill at this business has been used up. I'm going to have to find a better place! read more

I have been in a few times in the past year for quick mani and pedi because its close to home. I am always al little weary of these type of places with high turn over and little evidence of proper sanitization. I don't ever see staff disinfecting items properly between customers and don't see an actual autoclave... I wont be going back because I was cut 3 times during my pedicure. the attendant didn't acknowledge the issues nor did she apologize. she simply applied some blue substance from a little bottle from her pocket, I don't even know what that is. I paid but did not tip and said to the receptionist that I was most unhappy and would not be returning. she didn't seem to care much. I will not risk my health for the sake of a cheap pedicure. next time I will spend more money and go to a reputable place that has better sanitation practices. read more

So it was my first time going to this nail salon, my experience was okay, I got a mani pedi and acrylic nails. My pedicure was great, the lady scrubbed my feet really well, everything was clean and sanitary. Now my manicure acrylic nails... I feel like she was really rough with my hands, didn't cut my cuticles which need attention, she used the electric filer too close to my skin, it would catch and hurt. When I got there I asked if they could do a certain design, the lady said yes but later it was obvious she had never done so( the ladies where chatting about it in their language, even tho I couldn't understand it was pretty obvious it was about the design) I would have rather her be honest and say no instead of trying it and it not looking what I wanted, I would have then just gone with all one colour and maybe one sparkle. They didn't turn out how I'd liked, I left feeling kinda unsettled, but felt like I couldn't speak up due to the whole 2 hours no one tried talking to me which I felt awkward because usually nail ladies try and converse a little :/ Unfortunately I won't be going back. read more

How to lose a customer in one sitting: Maybe my mistake was making an appointment at 6pm on a Saturday, an hour before they close. Still I don't think that should be an excuse for the experience I had. I came in for a pedi and picked out my colour. At this point the salon was about half empty. The woman doing my pedi was nice enough, but spent a lot of time on her cell phone (presumably arranging a ride home with her husband). I thought this was a little inappropriate. As my pedi began most of the mani and pedi stations were being shut down and lights were being turned off. This is 6:15pm and the salon presumably doesn't close for another 45 minutes! Next the owner (I assume she was the owner as she was manning the front desk) comes over and asks me if I wouldn't mind settling my bill now as she wants to close the till... Umm... WHAT? My feet are barely immersed in water and you want me to pay for a service you haven't yet provided, while you're effectively shutting the salon down 45 minutes early?? Ok.. I'm not a confrontational person. I wasn't going to argue. I pulled out my debit card and was told that it would only be the advertised $25 if I paid cash. Sketchy, but I suppose I'm in to save a buck like anyone else, so I paid with cash. After the nail polish was applied (relatively well, I should say), I was ushered by my tech to the drying station... and left there.... waiting... waiting in a half darkened salon for her to tell me when I was done... Only to spot her about 15 minutes later dressed in her winter coat and boots waiting by the door for her ride home!! She didn't tell me how long I was to sit in the drying station and just left me there with NO ONE to follow up with me (at this point there were only five people left in the salon, including her, the owner, one other tech, one other customer, and me)! So after a few awkward minutes of me sitting there with my feet in the drying station trying to get her attention, she finally looks over and sees my concern, walks over, touches my toes and says they're done. I take off my paper slippers and put on my socks and boots. I search for a garbage can to put my disposable paper slippers into because she didn't even have the courtesy to dispose of them for me. Needless to say I left without tipping. I thought the worst was over, but when I got home BOTH my big toenails were smudged - I guess 20+ minutes in a drying station wasn't enough after all and the tech wasn't competent enough (or was too impatient) to actually tell if the nail polish was dry enough. Yep, $25 for a pedi is a bargain for which you shouldn't expect luxury treatment. But I'm still a paying customer and I feel that I totally wasted my $25. It took me a few weeks to get around to writing this review since I've just had a baby, but I felt strongly enough about my bad experience to finally sit down and share it on here. Horrible service. I booked an appointment and when I came in I didn't get so much as a hi. The first thing that came from one of the estheticians mouth was "pick a colour". Then they left me standing at the front lobby lost and confused. I finally asked where do I sit and one or the girls with her mask still on motions me to one of the chairs. The tub for the pedicure had some stuff in it. The girl didn't even look twice at me just turned on the tap and threw some blue stuff in there and walked away. This is my first time here and will most definitely be my last. I usually go to Ana's nail boutique. Ana has great customer service and treats her clients with respective and attentiveness unlike serenity where u feel more like ur on a conveyer belt. read more

I got a new set of acrylic nails here. Within the first 3 days of having them, two of them broke off without me even noticing. I was shocked at the poor quality. I called them and they happily told me it is free to replace them. When I went back, the nail lady confirmed it is free. She completely rushed through, they look horrible. After I was done, the owner rudely confronted me in front of all the clients in a threatening tone about how they said it costs $5, on the phone and in person, which is false. She interrupted me, accused me of lying over five little dollars, emphasizing repeatedly that next time it will cost $5, as if $5 is much compared to the $35 I spent on their garbage quality nails. I dropped into Serenity this past week for a shellac mani. The individual that did my mani didn't speak to me at all - she was very rough and she cut my finger. Never once apologizing as I winced. She was rushing through the service as they were hosting a large wedding party thereafter. I left the salon with dull nails having to return the next day to have them repaired. Never once did the staff apologize for the issue or for my inconvenience the next day. I will NOT be returning there. I AM NOT IMPRESSED. read more

I usually get my nails done here and I have been for a while (I get acrylics) and I've never tried a different salon because this one is close to where I live and they have reasonable prices. But they always seem to mess them up, whether its the shape or length, etc, but today was really bad. The lady who was doing them (I didn't get her name because she didn't have a name tag on) was pretty rude to me. For example, she cut them too short after I asked for them to be long and she asked if I wanted them square instead of the coffin shape I originally wanted (which she told me would look really bad considering the length). She cut the sides off anyway without giving me a chance to think. Also, she kept hurting me with the drill tool and when I pulled my hand away she would get really annoyed at me. Before she started painting them, I had decided that I wanted to change the colour and she basically told me that I shouldn't change the colour and I already chose one so what was the point. When they were drying, she was in such a rush to make me leave that instead of letting them dry for 15 minutes, after about 8 minutes she tapped one and told me they were good and I can leave. So all in all, I would not recommend Serenity to anyone. read more
