I will not be returning to this salon. They did a terrible job of my mani /pedi. I think the polish they used was old and it never did dry even after 5 times under the dryer. When I did get home and started using my hands it continued to clump with the least bit of pressure. The salon was noisy with staff speaking loudly and incessantly . The experience was not the least bit relaxing. I will not go back and would advise you to do the same. read more

The first thing, I am out there because Jenny always and talk loudly badly, bullshit about all customer by Vietnamese and Chinese Language like non-stop. Even, you just get in and ask information. She doesn't care who is good or not. The second thing, if you do bio She will take your money about her feeling. If you pay card auto +$2, +$3 and plus tax follow price list. She never follow price list. Last, Commission will pay 5/5, 6/4 by experience. So she always booked for her , take co-worker job. She alway pay late salary, She Never help co-worker or give co-work chances.That why You will see shortly co-worker. And she can't hiring new co-worker. Before I came, 2 old co-work already message and will back to get their tools , grove...but she don't give them back, and yelling they cheap. OMG, that is their tools not her. After aweek, Dec 1, I'm message her, I'm stopped work because my family have problems. And said if she pay , she can pay e-transfer or give another worker because I am new job far there. After 2weeks I stopped working, I ask her about salary message but She won't answer, then I called direct the store, she picked up and she doesn't want pay..and threaten me , she will call police.. I said, Please call. She own my salary but not me. So I try to wrote post. 100% I said true. If you want more questions, message me. If she pay I will delete it. Salary just few hundred $. Customer service is fantastic as always! I felt safe and considered when I stopped in today. They've done a great job adapting with cute painted sneeze bars and tub slips. I went in for a full set of UV Gel and a pedicure both with shellac. They did a fantastic job! One of the woman doing my nails took the time to help me choose a colour, they were very knowledgeable about what they had to offer. They really took the time with my nails! I made a mistake. I'm new to town and didn't know the name of the salon where I made an appointment or even where it was. I tried to remember and thought it was here. I quickly realized it wasn't the right place, but I was already seated and had colours picked out. So I stayed. I regret it. This salon is meh. They do your nails and toes at the same time so you feel like you're in a yoga class trying to do tree pose while sitting instead of being able to relax. They cut the sides of the toe nails, which leads to hang nails; most high quality trained professionals know this and don't cut down the side of nails. Now my toes are sore and hurt from the cut sides and I'll probably get hang nails in a week. On the up side, they offer water. They seem nice. The lady helped me pick a nice colour. The manicure was good, even if I had to work a bit to get it. $100 with tax and tip for a shellac mani/pedi. read more

Stopped in today for a pedicure. It looked pretty busy but they were able to see me right away. Good selection of nail colours (they use Opi polish). The room is long and narrow and when each vibrating chair has an aesthetician crouching in front of it, there's not much room to walk, which could be bad news for a klutz like me. The woman who did my pedi was pleasant and thorough, getting my chair buzzing and checking that the temp of the water was ok before getting started. My toes looked lovely when she finished. $25 for the pedi, so not the cheapest in town, but a perfectly reasonably price for a pedi with pleasant professional service. I'd go back. read more

My regular salon (last 15 years) was closed on Sunday so I visited 5 Star for 1st & last time, for these reasons: 1. Atmosphere was drab, the plastic screen that shield me & salon worker was held together with tape, the white nail dryer was soiled & noticeably dirty 2. Mark-up of $3 per polish on the black (or gold/silver) bottles so pay attention 3. $45 for mani/pedi, but if you pay cash it's 5% additional tax so $47.25, and when I requested a receipt the price increased to $50.85. When I queried the staff why the discrepancy & issue on getting a receipt as she is charging tax on behalf of govt on a cash transaction as a customer I'm entitled to a receipt. The Manager, unleashed a verbal tirade of abuse, such as "You're Chinese, I'm Vietnamese, why you cause problems? You're Threatening me. Oh My God, why do you want receipt, my staff bothering me I'm with another customer?!?" They are in a cash business charging $45 for a 30-min basic mani/pedi. Be warned if you pay cash they're pocketing the money, they should NOT be charging any tax in addition. read more

Before leaving for vacation I got a shellac manicure and a regular pedicure. The shellac lasted for two weeks before it started to peel or chip. I was really impressed since most shellac I've had before only lasts about 5 days to 1 week. The pedicure is still intact and just starting to chip now after 4 weeks. I went in to change my the colour of my one toe, but there worker insist I change the colour of all my toes so it's easier for them to make a pricing. So I did, however they took longer than they said they would because I was on a time limit, AND a they charged my $39.00 which is ridiculous since I was just changing the nail polish because I got a pedicure the day before, my nail polish on one toe was just smudged. I'm very upset with having to pay $80 in total for a pedicure, on top of that waste my time. I do not recommend going here, it is way to expensive and poor communication. Tried this nail salon three times before I wrote this review. I made an appointment for mani pedi, and came in 5 minutes early. I had to wait 20 minutes until somebody started on my nails. The girl I had was named Gina she was very nice but very slow. I am not exaggerating here it took 3 hours for nails and pedi. No waxing no fake nails just polish and buffing. They had to call somebody over to finish with her because I was late to get to work. But! I figured maybe she was having an off day, tipped her 15% and made an appointment for 2 weeks later. When I showed up to my next appointment I waited 30 minutes before giving up as other women were seated before me who were walk ins. I thanked the owner said I needed to meet up with people and she said that was fine. The last time I went in I did a walk in, and was seated and I had to wait again 30-40 minutes. I again left because it's just not worth it for me. The salon is very good very clean and the staff and owner is very friendly. I just had a really negative experience having to wait every time. If half stars were possible I'd probably do 3.5. I go here for a pedicure a couple of times a year. Polish prep and application is quite good but the amount of rough skin removed is minimal (I do a better job at home on a regular basis) and the massage part is very short. I made my first visit since lock down. So nice to see Jenny and Sam. The salon is spotless and the service is cheerful and friendly as always. Everyone is wearing a mask and they have plexiglass screens between manicurist and client. While I was there for pedicure I saw them sanitizing the tables and chairs and mopping the floors. My daughter was given a gift certificate for this salon. Due to this she chose gel nails despite her preference for shellac. The entire job was almost $90 (crazy eh). The nails look awful. They are raised high on her nail and far from her cuticle. The tips look like scary talons. I want to take her back but she is uncomfortable having her Mom go in to fight for her money back. I've been here a few times for various services, this time sealed the deal for me. I will NEVER be back. Not only was is blooming hot (they had fans and offered water but the fans were pointed in directions that wouldn't really help anyone cool down...) I saw the sign out on the sidewalk saying "Manicure Pedicure special, both for 38" I thought GREAT! My university grad is today and I was in desperate need of some nail TLC. I walked in and asked for the Mani/Pedi special, the woman told me to pick colours and I told her I would like shellac. She nodded and gestured to a chair. I sat and the woman started on the pedicure while also removing my previous Shellac manicure. She left my fingers in the Acetone soaked cotton and tin foil for THE ENTIRE PEDICURE! The tips of my fingers are sore as if I have chemical burns today! All around me, they had promised patrons 15-30 minute waits and those people ended up sitting for nearly 45 minutes or leaving and giving up. My pedicure is okay, not the best, not the worst I've had, but the technician trimmed the sides of my nails which gives me hang nails and HURTS! I kept indicating very clearly that I was in pain and she just nodded and continued. My manicure however is the worst I've ever gotten. It looks worse than if I'd just done it myself. The edges aren't capped, it's bumpy and looks unfinished. There's even prices of skin hanging off the end of each finger! When I got to the counter I asked "so, it's 38 for Mani/Pedi plus a few dollars for upgrading to shellac right?" and the woman shook her head and told me it would be $90. My jaw quite literally dropped. I said I had only come because of the sign outside. She told me the special didn't count for shellac. Fair enough...I suppose. But they should have told me as soon as I walked in and indicated I wanted the special and told her I wanted shellac instead of regular polish. I ended up paying after a short argument with the 'manager' and my technician. I basically rage-quit because I realized they weren't going to accommodate the confusion or anything. Went for a pedicure, and was given a chair immediately. Selection of polishes (Opi with a few China Glaze, also Shellac polishes on offer) was okay, but the latest collections were not available (the "new" collection being displayed was Holland, from 8+ months ago). I was slightly concerned about the cleanliness of the establishment - things were being hand-washed at a sink in the back, and the pumice stones and files were not the disposable kind. And there were nail clippings on the arm rest where I went to place my purse. Service was friendly, and my toes looked nice when finished, but nowhere near the best pedicure I've had. Probably not even the top 10. For $25, you get what you pay for. You're not rushed, but you're not going to be in love with your feet when you're finished. My recommendation: if you can, splurge and go to Fortelli across the street. It's $47, but the atmosphere and service are miles better, and your feet will look and feel absolutely spectacular when you leave. If you're looking for a pedicure in the $25-range, try Rainbow Nails on the same block - it's cleaner. read more

My experience here was pretty terrible. It would take a full length essay to cover everything that was wrong so I will have to pick and choose. While they are very friendly, the male there is equally controlling and seems to get annoyed when you don't take his advice. He commented while huffing several times on how I should have done a Shellac on my toes as well as my hands. They were busy and it seems he was trying to rush myself and my bridal party out the door. Every time I chose a nail design he basically refused to do it claiming it wouldn't look good and insisted I stuck with just a french manicure. The Shellac on my nails started chipping after two days, now four days later, one of the studs has fallen off and most of my nails are chipped. I grew my nails out very long for my wedding and without asking, he cut them down really short. The woman who did my french manicure did an extremely sloppy job leaving a tiny black hair/fibre on two of my nails which she polised over. By that point I was so anxious to get out of there and figured you wouldn't see it in my photos that I just left it. There is A LOT more to this story but all that really matters is that it was a terrible experience and I don't recommend going there no matter how 'reasonable' their prices may be. read more

My shellac mani/pedi only lasted a week! So I called to complain and was told that they could do it for less money again if I came in. So I did, and all that happened was the same guy, Tommy, pushed me into getting these rhinestone things on my toes which I finally gave in to because he said "no charge". So after another 2+ hours I was charged the same price, his reasoning being that he gave me the rhinestones for free. When I argued that I was told the whole thing would be cheaper because it didn't last he gave me a guilt trip saying he would have to pay for it out of his own pocket. There's no way I'm dealing with that mess again so I'll try another place. read more

I work down the street and my normal nail tech was closed on the weekend. I got biogel acrylic nails and NEVER again. I don't usually give reviews but this time I found it necessary. Don't get me wrong I loved the nails when they were first done however two days after getting them done, I pulled my laptop out of my bag and two nails broke. Normally I pay $45 and I went there and paid almost $70, I didn't mind because they were nice at first but I've never seen such horrible quality. Normally, if a nail breaks, it's after 2-3 weeks NOT TWO DAYS AFTER. I paid for shellac and the paint is chipping on the other nails. If I could give 0 stars I would, you're best off going to any other nail salon on Queen. I will NEVER go back again. read more

I've been going to Five Star Nails for years ... Jenny and the girls are all friendly, helpful and knowledgeable. They offer various mani/pedis as well as waxing. I normally get shellac on my fingernails and regular polish on my toes -- both last for a couple of weeks without chipping or peeling (I've actually had it on for 3 weeks without chipping/peeling but nail growth shows at that point). If you ever need to get waxed only see Jenny( the owner I think) I had Wendy for a Brazilian, and brow wax and she literally did not listen to me what-so-ever! She never asked me if I wanted anything specific left for my Brazilian. Then I told her my eyebrows just needed a clean up because i'm growing them out and she waxed them so thin!! I am actually really upset. It took me so long to grow them out and make them look fuller and they are garbage now!!!!!!! She then proceeded to put wax on my lip! I have never in my life waxed my upper lip and I asked her what she was doing and she told me I said "yes" to waxing my lip...? Which I did not. Why would I say yes when I never was asked in the first place and never wax there anyways! She had to scrap the half dried wax off my lip. I am so disappointed and upset with my whole experience there today. I was a returning customer and I will never go back! I will try the new WAXON bar in Leslieville. read more

Absolutely terrible customer service. I had my nails done this past Saturday July 19th and literally Sunday it was all chipped. It was a china glaze polish which is not a bad polish, obviously it's water down and/or old. I called to inform them of the situation and kindly ask for a redo which was barely acknowledged but taken as an opportunity to "offer me a discount:" for shellac....to which I said I am not spending anymore money when you won't even fix a basic manicure. I am highly disappointed and upset by the service, staff and products used. HORRIBLE. Do not waste your time or money. read more
