My new roof just spent it's 1st night out on it's own. And I am more pleased about that than I thought I'd be. The crew showed up on time. They worked hard. They cleaned up diligently (including walking my property 3 times around with a magnet to pick up stray metal fasteners on the ground). They started on a Monday and were completely done on Wednesday. New flashing on everything. They replaced rotted wood where needed (for a reasonable price). They primed all the new wood and would have painted it if I had the original color. Rudy and the team at Sequoia were easy to deal with from the start. With all the rain and inclement weather we had recently in San Diego, good roofers were in high demand so I spoke with probably 15 different groups, ranging from unlicensed independent guys, to national roofing firms. I ended up with a huge range for quotes. For my smaller project (16sq, single layer tear off and replace with architectural shingles), I knew I didn't need (or want) to spend a relative fortune replacing my aging roof. I ended up finding Sequoia on GAF's website as one of their premier licensed installers. I left a message with my info and Rudy got back to me within a day with a quote he was able to generate by pulling dimensions satellite imagery. It wasn't the cheapest quote we received, but the added value compared with similar offerings from other groups made the decision to go with Sequoia easier. I had some concerns, our neighbors went through a different roofing company and ended up paying nearly 20% more than their original quote due to some wood that needed to be replaced. Rudy and the team at Sequoia added additional ventilation and replaced rotted wood with no added cost. It did require some patience while waiting for Sequoia to work through their backlog of jobs, but in the end it was worth it. What Rudy quoted was exactly what we ended up getting charged. The roof looks great and their team was done quickly, they started Thursday morning with the tear off and they were handling final clean up by 5pm on Friday. They picked up the remaining materials on Saturday afternoon and the project is done. read more

Rudy gave us an estimate that was very competitive and much more comprehensive than the other estimates we received. He made sure there would be nothing unexpected or any unwelcome surprises. This was a big job on a house that the roof had been long neglected. There was a lot of wood repair that had to be done before the new roof could go on. This included both the house and a wooden patio cover. Wood replacement was the bulk of the cost. Both Rudy, and Tito, the job foreman, made suggestions along the way on things we could consider to help defray some of the costs at the same time making the house look really good. The crew showed up each day on time, were respectful of the property, cleaned up each day before departing, and all in all were always professional. The roof replacement included a lot of skylights (13 including the patio). We were opting for the cheaper "big box store" white skylights. Rudy had me look at an amber custom skylight in comparison and we ended up going with those. Night and day difference. They look so good and we are so thankful for his recommendation. I requested a small roof repair early March and they informed me that they were so backed up that they would not be able to do the repair until early July. I reached out to them about mid June and they said that it would be a few more weeks. I reached out again in July and they again said a few more weeks. A few more phone calls and again the same bs. I called another company and they knocked it out in three weeks. I am still on the never ending waiting list and the never ending list of excuses. Sequoia roofing has worked on two houses for my family (my own and my mother's house). This is an average score between the two jobs they've performed. Overall, I think the company seems responsive and addresses issues when brought up. Let's start with the positives: - very responsive sales agent - professional, clear, and very communicative with both inquiries and issues/problems - work all went according to schedule Opportunities for improvement: - (first job) covered up an existing vent that went through roof (was a bathroom exhaust vent). I didn't notice this until I was in the attic for a different reason. Not sure why they did this but it was addressed when I called later to get it taken care of. - (first job & second job) the cleanup of nails and debris could have been better. For the first job, there were still a lot of nails left in the grass (backyard) that I removed myself. I was concerned because I have two dogs that roam the yard. Conceivably, it's easy to miss those nails because there is vegetation and such. I contacted Sequoia, and they said that they'd come out and sweep the yard for nails. For the second job, the entire backyard/sideyard is concrete but there were still a lot of nails left lying around. It wasn't a complete mess but I would have expected a better job of removing the debris especially for a concrete based yard. - (second job) some work done by a newer employee working on the roof had to be redone (flashing, some of the shingles). Misc: - lumber cost is phenomenally high right now so prepare yourself for some crazy add on costs (raised our original contract bid about 50% after the work was done). This isn't the fault of Sequoia, just the market rates but the markup still hurts the wallet. - a flat roof with 20 year warranty was worked on which has always been problematic for the second house. Will update review if there are any issues there. read more

We had a couple of last minute additions to the scope because the start date wasn't properly communicated by our solar company (they told us the night before the start). Sequoia replaced our roof, using all new tile (our choice), at a fair price. We have a two story home with a complicated roof. It took five days to complete the project. It was hellish for us inside the house - a lot of pounding - but the roof looks great now. There was a lot of debris, but they were very conscientious about clean-up at the end of each day. The crew all worked very hard. There was some additional cost for replacing rotted wood, which is normal. So we didn't know that cost in advance, but it also turned out to be very fair. Additionally, Sequoia replaced a skylight. The overall cost for that was only $200, but I know it would have been about a grand if we had done that separately, because I had quotes on that from last year. (I chose not to replace it then; it was cracked, but not leaking.) read more

He recommended a product that came with a 20 yr warranty and reflected 80% of the suns heat. I was pleased that Mike was able to come over between rainstorms to check out a leak evidenced by a new stain on my pitched living room ceiling. He was prompt and friendly, and he took time to answer all of my questions after explaining that the only way to stop the leak was to replace the entire roof. The concrete roof tiles had been laid in a non-offset manner (all lined up), which he said creates channels for rainwater to run down between tiles instead of staying on top of them. Made sense I guess. He gave me a ball-park estimate on the spot (and followed up with a detailed written estimate a couple hours later) to do the work next month. With heavy rain on the way in the meantime, I asked him about covering the area with tarps and he said I could try, but it would be safer just to poke a hole in the ceiling and put a bucket on the floor. It's too bad he didn't bother getting the ladder off his truck to actually look at the roof; I climbed up after he left, and directly upslope from the stain I found a broken tile (the only one on the entire house) with a half-inch gap which had to have been letting water through. I got some repair cement and a caulking gun and repaired it myself, and now -- almost 4 inches of rain later -- the stain on my ceiling has not worsened a bit! Also, I'm no expert but some quick internet research makes me wonder why he said that about the layout of the roof tiles when mine are the interlocking kind ___/¯¯¯¯¯¯¯ which are designed to direct all water downslope instead of allowing it between the tiles, whether or not they are offset. Clearly there's a breach in the underlayment and I will need to replace the 30-year-old roof before long, but thanks to my fix (and no thanks to Sequoia) I can wait for drier weather. The volume of good reviews for Sequoia is impressive, but due to this oversight I'm not eager to use them for the work. read more

I had spoken earlier to another well-known company that told me, after I explained our relatively straightforward request, that we needed approximately 1/2 hour of their time (for which I would pay) that they "didn't have an appointment available until the middle of June."
