I scheduled this company to comeout to the new home we are in escrow at the appointment was supposed to 10-12 I called at 10:08 am and let them know I was stuck on the 5 South when a big rig crushed closing the lanes. The guy said he has already left and wasn't interested in giving me an estimate to replace the roof. My advice to this business is give the grace to people and allow them 15 minutes grace time or simply call and let them know you are at the property. read more

While I am unsure as to the quality of their work. I can comment on their two employees who made homophobic comments towards me at Home Depot yesterday while wearing their Bob Piva Roofing uniforms. These two GROWN men made several comments about what I was wearing, looked me up and down several times, snickered to one another while saying "oh god look at this guy." This continued for a few minutes while I walked through the aisles. I contacted Bob Piva Roofing via social media to let them know how they are being represented in public. No response as of yet. Sad in this day and age that two men who could be my father's age have the maturity level of a 16 year old who peaked in high school. I look forward to connecting with Bob Piva Roofing in regard to this situation until I am confident that steps have been taken to reprimand and train their employees properly so they treat the public, and potential customers with respect. read more

I had a complete new roof put on ,on my house in Penasqutos back in May ( now November). We were out of the house from August to november, When I returned, I was looking closely at the roof, I noticed that several of the new roof vents were severly bent up. I suspected the bent up vents were not the fault of Piva, but they were due to a fumigation job we had done in August, but I wanted to make sure that Piva would still honor their warranty or if i should have the fumigation company repair them, at their cost. I called the office to ask to have someone there look at the roof vents and advise. left a message. NO one called me, so I called Brian the salesman for our roofing job. Again, no one called me back, i thought the Bob Piva guys were a respectable roofer, I paid preminum price, Now that all is said and done, they ignore me, I dont even know if they are still in buisiness/ i am very disappointed, and wonder what is going to happen if i have a leak in my roof/? 1 star is too much for this business. My unfortunate encounter with Bob Piva Roofing came when I bought a house that this company did a roof repair on in 2017. Seller had original documents that was disclosed during the sale. I attempted to reach out asking for clarifications on what work was done and about transferring their warranty...$500 by the way. I'm not sure for what? (Beside changing a name and phone number in their computers) Phone calls and emails went unreturned. Stonewalling? It took four parties: buyer, seller, and both sets of agents contacting them before any progress was made. And what they claimed was that only one section of the roof had been repaired. This was a discrepancy from the original paperwork which did not specify a particular section of roof. Additionally, the original paperwork said Bob Piva Roofing had made improvements to the chimney area. The independent house inspection performed during the sale indicated that no work had been done on the chimney. When asked about the discrepancies Brian became defensive, confrontational, and simply kept ranting, "we only fixed the upper section, we only fixed the upper section!" Essentially, he seemed to admit they did NOT work on the chimney as the original documents indicated. I asked if there was paperwork signed by the seller, that had this "more accurate" information that could be sent to the seller and therefore passed along to me during the disclosures process. Nope. Brian's only response was only to say, "What do you want, we only worked on the upper section." That phone called ended with him hanging up on me. [Come on Bob Piva Roofing, I was just trying to figure out what's going on...it was YOUR paperwork. I was a potential new customer.] The response was over the top if this was just some sloppy penmanship. (And that excuse was never brought up in any conversations) As I see it, worst case scenario, this company potentially took advantage of an elderly person, charged the price of the FULL roof repair and only actually did a small part of it. Their inventory list charged to the seller in 2017 suggests a major repair. And they seem to have an awfully good memory of this job they did 4 years ago... Best case scenario Bob Piva Roofing has terrible customer service with very little interest in standing by their work with a new owner. I guess, what do they care, they already got paid for the "roof" or was it "upper section of roof"..... 0 stars. read more

I called for a quote a year ago. I called again this year and was once again quoted $2200. I saved up a d finally called to schedule. He was out of town. Yound woman booked an appt for me. I thought he was coming over. He called. When I said I thought someone's coming over,, he snapped at me and said he was running way behind, be at least a month, and if I wanted it done I'd need to sign the contract first that he sent. I reminded him he'd never sent a contract and asked how I was supposed to know he was running so far behind! I asked him to email me his contract. A week passed without any word and I finally got a contracted mailed to me. I forgot he doesn't text or use email. Twice he quoted me $2200. I finally get something in writing and the quote is now $2960. $760 higher! I found a great guy who did it quickly for $1200! I will tolerate an arrogant worker but not a dishonest one. read more

I really wonder who is writing the bad reviews. I am a very picky customer and I don't trust contractors (have had many bad experiences in the past). I have had tile roofing problems on a number of previous homes (new construction defects mostly), as such I am pretty well read on roofing, code, best practices, etc. I chose Bob Piva Roofing because I did not want some fly-by-night contractor who would be using a different business name in a year or two and who's warranties would be worthless (like probably some of the inexperienced contractors who came by on a web service referral to give me a quote). Since Bob Piva has been in business since the 1960s and I believe the supervisor has been with them since 1983, I felt more comfortable trusting their work and knowing they should be around if something were to leak or a warranty issue were to arise. My job was a huge undertaking as I wanted all existing mission tile pulled and all sheathing replaced with low-e sheathing-this meant pulling 6 lb tiles and moving them around multiple times to complete the re-roof. The job also entailed pulling flat roof sections with torch-down roofing and replacing the sheathing underneath and then installing new torch-down. There was also a significant amount of bad starter board and fascia board that needed replacement and they have a full time framer to do this work. In addition I wanted to access the eaves with sheathing off to install insulation baffles from the top (I have a very low pitch roof with limited attic access). I also wanted a couple of new flashings installed so I could properly vent my range hood and bathroom exhaust fan. In a nutshell they did a stellar job and I could not be more pleased with the results. The workmanship is excellent (believe me I checked everything as the work was proceeding), the site was kept very clean, and the workers were courteous. At times they had two lift trucks all day and a crew of seven or so working all day. Everything was done to code or better and they even painted all the new wood and any existing fascia that now showed unpainted or different color. They weren't the absolute cheapest bid I had but they weren't way off either. All their workers are employees so you don't have to worry about someone getting hurt and suing you either. They work regular workdays and not weekends which also tells me that they treat their employees well. They even brought in a porta-potty on a trailer for the crew, Sometimes you get what you pay for. This time I paid a bit more and got a lot of value for money well spend. Good job and I will definitely recommend Bob Piva roofing to others! BTW, this is a legitimate post-I am a home owner and chose Bob Piva roofing based upon my research and my comfort factor after discussing the work with the PM. I also have no interest or relation to them in any way. I just really appreciate a job well done (seems kind of rare these days) and wanted to express it to others. We had our roof installed by Bob Piva just about 20 years ago. he oversaw installation and price was very reasonable and the work was professional. Fast forward to the recent heavy rains when I noticed a tiny leak around the vent in the garage during the major downpour. The leak wasn't major but noticeable and you could tell it just stared to leak because there was no rotting in the area. Anyway It's been so long I didn't think to contact Bob about it initially I had someone else out and they wanted to change what I thought wasn't reasonable 400. I thought more about it and remember Bob and his team did the original roof so I gave them a call. He and his two sons showed up today and patched the vent where it looked like the weld job on vent from manufacturer in a tiny spot had broke. He did it at NO cost said it was still under warranty I wasn't expecting that at all. I just have to say they take pride in their work and it really shows; he has taught his sons the trade and I could tell by the way they communicated that they really care about doing a good job and making sure customer is happy. With that attitude it's no wonder they have been in business for going on three generations. Bob Piva replaced our 25 yo cement tile roof approximately 10 years ago. They did an excellent and professional job replacing our large (5000 sq ft single story home + garage+ large skylight covered patio). with a US Tile roof. Work was done on time and cost was reasonable. Of 4 bids they were within 10% of the lowest. Since then we have had them come out three times, twice for a tiny flap of torch down than came loose in a large high water flow valley (poorly designed by previous owner) and once because, we thought our complex patio skylight flashing was leaking, yet the leak was from a cracked skylight installed by another company. All three times they were super-responsive and quickly remedied the roofing issue. They were also kind enough to cover the cracked skylight to stop it from leaking until repaired 4 weeks later though it was not their responsibility. Brian and his team are great to deal and delivery a very high quality product at a fair price. Their workers and responsive, very pleasant and professional, and careful. If you care about your home and yard Do not use Bob Piva to have a leaking roof reroofed Unless you hire a full time inspector to watch there ever move they will rip off old roof and with out any sheeting inspection cover with a product other than what they told you there were going to use than lie abate the product they were suppose to use saying that it had problems so they weren't using that anymore when you call the inspection /city you are told that the contractor - Piva could provide them with Roof covering Installation certification and there fore no sheeting inspection was required. I found a 12" sq Hole in the overhang that they roofed over wrong size roof jack used over heating exhaust duct hole around the chimney from old flashing left open to the elements who knows what else was covered up. also workmen safety is a problem no safety equipment being used by his workers like harness and safety lines personal equipment. spilt paint on concrete ran over hedges when backing up trailer into driveway read more

Called Piva for an estimate based on a friend's recommendation. VERY nice gentleman looked at my roof and wrote an estimate the same day. Many of the estimates I requested were emailed, and some didn't even email an estimate after looking at my roof. Piva wasn't our final choice, but the gentleman was very nice and honest about the other portions of my roof. read more

We have had no problems until the severe winds during the first storm of 2017 whipped up some areas around a skylight and caused leaks into our living room. Next rain the leak was worse then before , we called a different company to come out and look at the roof. The new guy pointed out what Bob had done. Bob had put some caulking on 2 nail holes and billed us $800 for making the problem worse. The company is unprofessional , do very lousy work. My experiences with Bob Piva Roofing have been great! I have a rental home that needed some leak repairs, and had a crack in the skylight. They came right out and gave me estimate to fix everything and repaired the skylight without having to replace it! The top pane was cracked but the inner pane was still fine. So they caulked it, and saved me from having to get it replaced, for now. The rains came and neither the roof nor the skylight have leaked at all. I am very happy with their honesty, and the quality of work! I would definitely recommend this company! read more

I just had my whole upper roof (over 1000 sqft) replaced by Bob Piva Roofing. It all went smoothly, finished on schedule, and came out as promised. I have a flat roof, which was tar and gravel and prone to leaks. Piva Roofing replaced it with a double torched down surface, which to me it is more functional and easy to maintain. Keith Sievers and Manuel brothers did a fantastic job of removing my old roof and installing the new one. Manuel has many years of experience in torched down roof installations and, after seeing his work, I can attest to his expertise. Piva Roofing is not inexpensive, but I am very happy with the quality of their work. Brian Cahey, the project comptroller, and Keith Sievers, the project superintendent, both are experts in the roofing business. I would like to thank them all (Brian, Keith, Manuel and his two brothers), and Donna who would politely help me when I called the Piva office, for a job well done. We purchased a house that came with a 20 year warrantied, near new Bob Piva roof. It seems any business with their longevity is doing something right, right? In my experience, the guys that came to do the warranty work is what they do right. We had a leak that vexed everyone that attempted to fix it (2 contractors, 2 roofing companies). Two years ago, the first time Bob Piva came out, they did a thorough inspection, both on the roof and in the attic. The leak was in a place where there was no attic access, and the source of the leak could not be observed. The first suspect was flashing that was installed upside down. We had the flashing replaced in summer, and, until the next rain storm with a strong north wind (important data point), it seemed to have done the trick. Alas, no. The next strong storm came, and the leak was back. I called Bob Piva. I was honestly a little perturbed that there was still a leak, but they took care of me promptly. Noe and Marcos--the boots on the ground and the guys up the roof get 5 stars, 10 stars if I could. They attacked this leak relentlessly, went over everything, and, even though Noe suspected the roof was sound, he still pulled up the shingles, inspected the underlayment, laid new tar paper and re-roofed. We've had storm after storm this season. They would come back after the rain, reinspect, and do all they could to find the source. Finally, in a professional manner, Noe recommended I have the chimney inspected. I say professional because they did everything possible to ensure that the roof itself was sound and not leaking BEFORE they even mentioned other possible sources. They refused to lay blame elsewhere. That says a lot to me. Yes, it was the chimney all along. And, it was a difficult leak in that the water would wick into a 3 inch space between an interior cedar ceiling and the roof. There was never any intrusion from the roof itself. It would only leak when the wind blew hard from the north, and, sure enough, the chimney leak was on the north side. So, why four stars and not five? It goes back to the office and salesman. When the guys on the roof had to get approvals from "the office", without going into details, I'll just say the "home office" experience warranted 1 or 2 stars. I cannot say enough about Noe and Marcus, Noe in particular. These guys are great and they went way above and beyond. I guess the real question is would I use them to put a new roof on? I know that construction is a tough business, and that a business's resources need to be allocated in the most profitable manner. Given that, and the wonderful experience of their roofers watching out for us then, yes, I would get a competitive bid from them. read more

While investigating the cost of putting new rain gutters on our house we discovered our roof was bad and didn't have much life left on it. I knew immediately who to call for a quote. Bob Piva Roofing! Brian Cahey came out and gave us a great quote. We signed the contract that day. Throughout the whole process the crew was professional and clean. On the second day of the project Escondido got an unprecedented amount of rain (almost 2 inches). I was nervous because I didn't have shingles. But the crew had sealed the roof with waterproof paper and we didn't have any problems. They also repaired/replaced sections of rotted facia board and trim. I expected this to cost so much more than our original quote but the extra cost was minimal and looks fantastic. We are happy with our new roof. This company is wonderful. San Diego County Superior Court Case No. 37-2017-00003259-CU-BC-CTL is our case number if you would like to know the details and see evidence about our lawsuit against Bob Piva Roofing Company, Inc. ("Piva"). To make a very long story shorter, this company incorrectly installed our roof which destroyed the upper part of the substructure of our house and caused mold (when we had an infant at the time). Piva claimed its roof came with a "Workmanship Guarantee" for 12 years and was "maintenance free" going as far as saying: "However, if your roof needs attention..........(Leaks, loose tiles, clogged drains, etc.) Just call. You are covered. It's that simple!" But, a solar company discovered the problem when we tried to install solar panels a couple of years later. After contacting Piva, they yelled at me for dare saying they might have done it incorrectly. Never did they offer to come out and even look at my property. It was not until we contacted Piva's insurance company that they came out to look at our roof because the insurer concluded the damage was due to their faulty workmanship. The owner, Bob Piva, was aggressive on our roof and not only yelled at the solar company representative that was there but got up in his face as if he wanted to fight. Piva even tried to make us pay for the damaged sheathing their faulty work caused before they would consider a reroof! Despite contacting a lawyer and attempting to, once again, have them rectify the problem, we had to file a lawsuit because they would not even contact us back. Through this process we found out that Brian Cahey, Piva's main salesperson that signed our contract, not only did not maintain a required salesperson registration, but also had his roofing license revoked by the CSLB (Contractor's State Licensing Board)! Consequently, he could not legally enter into contracts, including ours. We only resolved the matter after an extensive legal battle. This company does horrible work and does not stand by their warranty. Avoid this company at all costs! read more

My experience wasn't as nice. Called them to fix some broken tiles and check the roof.They did arrive when expected, and completed the job in 1.5 hours. First taste of bitterness was realizing that I paid $200/hr for a roofer. Second was a leak that developed in an area that didn't leak BEFORE they worked on it. Okay, maybe it's just a coincidence. I'm cool with it. When I called service rep Brian to get them back out I was reminded I only paid to have them fix 14 tiles... What? I paid to have you fix the roof! I don't care how many tiles were broken, I just wanted it fixed. YOU said it was 14 tiles. In any event, I asked them to come back out and check it out. Give me another estimate if need be, whatever, I just want the roof fixed. They never showed. After two more calls I was transferred to Keith... he gave me attitude, but said they'd come out to check it out. Again, no show. I feel ripped off more by their attitude then I do the work. I will never call them again. Not recommended! Update: Wow.. they reply to my review TWO YEARS AND 7 MONTHS later. I stand by claim of lack of promptness. And he's right, the contract was to fix broken tiles.They did that. But why say your coming back out THREE SEPARATE TIMES and then never show up?? He coordinated all the details for us with consistent communication throughout the project. The crew was excellent.
