Charles may have been attentive to detail during the economic slowdown, but he has been a nightmare for our most recent project.
First, they did one of our rental apartments. Great job on the windows. Less so on the bedside manner with our tenants. Charles is a take-charge kind of guy, but may not be the best listener.
Nevertheless, we were pleased enough to have him do another apartment when the tenants were on vacation, and then later the windows at our house.
The windows in our house were done in May. At the time, we needed one obscure panel and he brought samples for us to choose. Unfortunately, we didn't realize until after the fact that there were far more than two options. So, after seeing the sash in, and more options on the web, we decided to change it out. Also, the hardware was the wrong color. Well, after much follow up, the new obscure sash and correct hardware were installed in November. 6 months for an item that takes 6 weeks to get.
Then, it gets worse...
We had some water damage at our house over Labor Day causing two bath remodels. We had Charles bid the windows, as well as the whole project. We wanted to start the job as soon as possible and asked him to order the windows.
The responses on where are windows were went like this:
Mid November: "I think three weeks from now"
Early December: "I ordered them but we are in the holiday season and Marvin does shut down for Thanksgiving and Christmas slows the process up"
Early January: "I ordered them early but Marvin shut down for two weeks . Their (sic) family oriented company and they believe and family time."
When I visited window shop on Jan 6, I found that windows had not been ordered.
Ok, so you don't get the project but intentionally lie to me about having ordered the windows? Not cool.
Oh, and when quoting the project (October), he took a door with odd dimensions to have it remade. That, too, was supposedly ordered, even though I paid for it. Well, it wasn't. And when I went to pick it up, I had to pay again. And the dimensions on this expensive door were still wrong and our contractor had to adjust.
So, in the end, in addition to the out of pocket for his screw-ups, it delayed our project and made our other contractor have to work out of sequence, which always ends up costing more.
Construction projects are difficult enough to live through. Why add to the headache and use one who is intentionally misleading? read more
