This store has been redesigned to remove the checkout counter. Now there's only one a tiny checkout station in the back that can accommodate one customer at a time. So inefficient! The line snaked all the way to the front of the store and employees kept walking by until one finally came with a mobile checkout device to assist. Thank goodness they can pull up all purchases by your phone number, so my return was processed faster than the time I spent waiting in line. The absence of a dedicated register should mean more space for merchandise, but they were out of many products. read more

I'm over unhelpful staff. I went in to find concealer. The staff person "matched" me. I went home and discovered the shade was way too dark on my skin. You're getting paid to provide customer service - how about providing customer service instead of wasting my time and making me return an item? I can't count how many times I've gone into a Sephora when it's not busy. Staff just talk amongst themselves, ignore me, and don't offer to help. If I could give F street location a zero, I would. Always slow because they're short staff, constant attitude from the staff. OIf this is not what you passionate for, don't work at a beauty counter store. This store also doesn't carry a lot of brand. Really aggressive and also unhelpful employees here on the floor. Was grabbing a lotion from a drawer which are the stock drawers under the displays and was rudely stopped WHILE this employee was helping someone. She stopped her customer engagement to reprimanded me . Telling me to NOT do that. Meanwhile I shop at sephora often and for YEARS. I did NOT Need assistance nor did I ask for it. I actually bought much less because of this interaction. I immediately walked away and purchased the 2 items i hand in my hand instead of the 5 i was looking for. Really rude and unprofessional. This location also does not have as much brands as most so i would call before you go. When i was cashing out i explained this interaction and was told to have better day. Haha. With a blank stare. So it tells me THEY DONT GIVE A S^*t about the customer experience. With this being said expect very little in terms of product stock and customer service. I think what employees here fail to understand is that customers are why actual locations exist i could order online no attitude. Then eventually locations close and no need for actual employees. So why in this day in age be rude to a customer not only be rude but stop your engagement with your actual customer needing help to reprimand me. In addition did anyone at all after i shared my feedback at the store offer to assist or apologize absolutely not. (I'm on vacation, no car, only Metro) I had been to the Alexandria location a day before and was color matched (or so I thought), but when I tried the foundation the next morning, I looked like a ghost! I took it to the Metro location and they returned it, no questions asked. Erin (love her!) took me to do a thorough color match and I couldn't be happier with my new foundation. I had a horrible experience yesterday 09/17 at this Sephora. I was looking to restock on my skincare since I was running low on some items so I kinda knew what I was looking for. I headed over to isle with skin care and there was a lady (little order like 30-40) in the corner where they keep all the skincare I needed COMBING her looooong hair (it is below her butt and super coarse) and on top of that she pulled out the scissors and started CUTTING dry ends off her hair?????!!!! There was hair all over, I stepped in and almost slipped on her hair. Hair was getting on the product, shelves, her clothes like everywhere!!! And that is an employee of Sephora, getting ready for her shift or something!!! Bizarre! It also looked like she was doing her makeup there?! Her bags were all over the place with a million things falling out on to the floor. I was in shock. Since I took some items that were in the aisle where I could actually reach things I needed I stood there trying to get some more but since she was in the way and did not even knowledge the fact that I need to come there and get stuff I need I got pissed off, left things and took my business to beautiful Sephora in Clarendon where workers are sweet and helpful. It's a cramped location with no service. I visited when no one was in the store, and I can only imagine that it is a nightmare during more popular hours. I didn't look around much. It is small and cramped and I went in on a Friday evening so it was crowded. Two stars because I checked the website, found a specific product I wanted and came to this store because it was one of the few that carried it. The woman I asked about a specific product insisted they didn't have the product or anything by that company and never had done in that store. They had it. I found it because I kept looking. But we were probably a yard from the products while she was telling me this. Maybe she usually works in another store and got confused. This Sephora is not my favorite Sephora in DC, but it usually gets the job done. It's smaller than the one in Georgetown so I recommend checking online to make sure they have what you are looking for before going. The customer service here is definitely hit or miss. My most recent visit went well; there was a Sephora staffer at the front who quickly found someone to help me find a new concealer. The second staffer tested seven brands on me before finding the perfect one. Previously, I've found some of the staffers there to be less than engaged and not the most helpful. However, the location is great and I'll continue to stop by if I need to pick up something that day. read more

Terrible customer service. Walked in- no one greeted me. One of the ladies working there made eye contact with me no less than 4 times and never even said hello let alone ask me if I needed help. When I went to the cash register, there were 4 people standing there and when I complained, they had the nerve to say they were short on staff despite the fact that there were more staff than customer. They tried to offer me samples and help at that point but I was so pissed that no one had asked me if I needed help for a full 15 minutes that I decided I didn't need to spend another minute there. I really wanted to love this Sephora. As a Vib member and long time Sephora lover I was beyond ecstatic that there was a Sephora in downtown. However my experience here has been less than desirable. I'll start with the positives: Pros: Location, location, location! Super convenient near Chinatown and a few blocks from The Gallery Place Metro. Also very close to Zara, H&M and other shops. Also the staff was pretty friendly and willing to help when needed. Cons: The size of the shop is tiny, especially in comparison to other Sephoras. Unfortunately that means that they have a smaller selection. I I came specifically to try on some YSL lip gloss and was told that they do not carry "luxury brands". Um, in my mind this is what distinguishes Sephora in the beauty industry - the fact that I don't have to be harassed at a makeup counter in the mall in order to get higher-end cosmetics. Despite my disappointment I decided to continue to look around and maybe find an alternative. Though the sales woman who helped me was obviously a novice, I appreciated her effort and ability to reach out to her co-workers for help to find a lipgloss that I would like. (I would also like to note that it seems like for such a small location on the few times that I have been there it has been quite overstaffed) Verdict: I will definitely keep this as an option if I'm in the area. However I think that they Sephora at Pentagon will continue to be my go-to as I know that they will be more likely to have the brands that I like as well as the expertise that I desire. read more

What I love most about Sephora are their mini-size products/sampler kits. It's a great way to test out a product without committing to its full price. I was happy to find that the very kits I'd been eyeing online were stocked here even though it's one of the smallest Sephora storefronts I've visited. Most of the mini products are stocked in the check-out aisle and not at their brand section. It makes for an awkward browsing experience but you won't be the only one poking along the line. While its Georgetown counterpart offers more selections overall, I found what I was looking for --- namely, the Sunday Riley Flash Kit (mini sizes of Good Genes and Ceramic Slip), the rest of the Sunday Riley skincare line, and the Juliette Has A Gun sampler kit (alas, they didn't have any full-size bottles to sniff out). Garrett (?) at the fragrance section was very helpful. He went beyond just advising me on which brands to consider and hooked me up with samples of all the scents we tried. Based on the excellent service and their Sunday Riley section, I will be back! read more

Better selection than the newer 14th street store. However, I've had a hard time getting assistance (even mid-day on a work day) when I go to this store. Also, I've purchased foundation here only to go home and find out it's the wrong shade, had the cashier incorrectly ring up my order, and started a make up appointment 40 minutes late (I was even 5 min early for the appointment). All of these examples occurred on separate visits and I can now unfortunately say that I consistently have a bad experience whenever I go to this store. I'm a VIB Rouge member but between the bad store experiences and Sephora's new return policy I'll likely go elsewhere to purchase make up. read more

I asked the people at the front if I could switch out my NARS foundation I purchased several months ago, but was color matched incorrectly. I told them I didn't have a receipt. They said I could exchange it and went through the process of color matching again, picked out the right one and they told me to checkout. After I tried explaining all that to the cashier, she said I couldn't return it without the receipt. She brought over a blonde manager who was completely useless. She was rude and condescending. Clearly I haven't used this foundation, it was the wrong color. I was just trying to switch it out, not asking for any money back. It was a mistake made by one of YOUR associates and I just wasn't able to bring it in sooner. I understand there are policies but why make it so difficult for the customers? This Sephora location is good for those that know what they need and are able to get in and out in under 5 minutes. It's a high traffic, tourist packed location, so you don't get as much 1:1 support, because there's lots of customers. I used to walk here on my lunch breaks and pick up items I needed to replenish. This location definitely needs a few additional team members, especially on Saturday's, because there was only one person greeting folks and helping them find their products. Love this sephora. It can be very busy in there. However, once you get their attention its undivided. The beauty reps are very knowledgeable. Even if they dont know the best product they will ask someone who does. I've been looking for a body illuminator for a while. Spent hundreds of dollars on failed products. I told the young lady what I wanted and didn't want and she immediately took me to a product that I love. I cant stop smelling skin and it's a moisturizer. Thank you thank you. read more

I came in a couple days ago initially wanting to return some eyeliner that was not black enough to show up on my dark skin, and the employees helped me find the greatest eyeliner ever to exchange with the eyeliner I wanted to return! They had some great customer service and although I was just visiting D.C. I would definitely come back to this SEPHORA next time I am in town! Tried to get recommendations on some skincare products and felt the staff member helping me was pretty unengaged and couldn't really tell me anything beyond what I already knew from a previous google search. I've been in other Sephora's where I couldn't believe how knowledgeable they were about their products, about what was and wasn't on the label. So I believe they could do better. read more
