The cashiers can see if you are Rouge, Sephora's highest loyalty level, and if you're a Sephora credit card holder and they have not been trained to value any of that. You ever have that "oh god I'm on the absolute last of my (insert product here)!" moment? That was me this past weekend. I was squeezing the last bit of moisturizer out of the tube, hoping I had enough to get me through the day. I did, but just barely... so it was time for a skincare run. This location was closest to me so off I went. I'm unsure if it was the sale, it being Sunday, or both but it was insanely busy. Not to mention swarmed with tweens. It was challenging to try different products due to the store being really packed. Despite this, staff were very helpful. Checkout was a quick despite the line looking long. I really appreciated the minis of items. It's nice not to have to commit to a full size when you're unsure. I love this Sephora. Let me start by saying two days ago I came here wanting to splurge on some new products. All the people working here were so helpful and patient, especially Gabby who helped me find most of the products I purchased. Fast forward to two days later, I wanted to use my Milk Bronzer (stick) in the shade baked. I rotated this product clockwise to use the bronzer and when it was time to stop using, the product was stuck up and would not rotate back down. I emailed Milk they immediately emailed me back to help troubleshoot but mentioned to take it straight to Sephora if it still does not work. I took it to Sephora and they exchanged right away. It was a busy Saturday afternoon at Old Orchard, and I decided to finally learn how to do my makeup. I pushed through the crowds for my beauty lesson at 1:15, and let me tell you it was crowded. My makeup artist was Kassandra, and she took such great care of me. She hydrated my face, and educated me on the power of a good skin care routine n such which is extremely helpful to a low maintenance person such as my self. With every step, I got to practice on the other side of my face and was provided tips on how to improve. August 13, 2025, I made a purchase online to be picked up at the store the same day. I ordered the travel size perfume spray, which says it on the receipt. When I went to pick it up when I got back in the car, it was not the spray. It was the oil roller ball. I called the Sephora store and spoke to a gentleman which seem very confused on how online orders come through. It has to be scanned whatever the customer request requested. So he gave me instructions to come back to the store tomorrow and they will do a refund and exchange for the perfume spray. I called customer service the same day. They apologized for the mixup and said they were crediting my account $10 to use towards my next purchase. August 14, 2025 I went back to Sephora to buy the perfume spray. I did not bother to return the roller ball. My daughter went in for me because I'm disabled. The manager which she stated her name was Chrystal, was extremely rude and unprofessional. She would not let my daughter complete one sentence. My daughter felt so defeated and nervous. She was in tears as she left the store. Chrystal then said there was no credit on the account, we don't do points and I didn't have enough anyways. When I spoke to her, I explained to her the situation and I was there to purchase the perfume spray because online it would not let me add any merchandise to the basket. She then responds and says that's because we don't have any more perfume sprays, which was not true because my daughter had the spray perfume in her hand at the register. In fact they had plenty. This is the fourth incident I have had with this particular Sephora. Who is allowing them to treat customers with such poor behavior. There has been a lot of complaints I see online about this particular store. I'm not sure if my daughter was not the right color or not but this is ridiculous and I'm tired being treated like a second class citizen. This is the last time I will do any business with this store. I just wanted perfume I didn't ask for the disrespect. I have made a complaint with BETTER BUSINESS BUREAU. IM SICK OF IT!! Most of them would back down when I said I didn't need help and just wanted to look. One refused to take no for an answer. She kept telling me that she knew a lot about the line I was looking at. When I didn't ask any questions and said I just wanted to look she pushed further. And offered to go get the rep who was in the store that day. Again I said I didn't need help. I'm REALLY disappointed with my visit here. I stopped by on Feb 3 to purchase a new tube of the Porefessionals primer, and figured I could use a new concealer while I was at it. One of the workers showed me to the NARS concealer and I asked to be color matched. She brought a couple colors that would best suit my skin and helped me apply them. I asked if I'd be allowed to have a tiny sample to take home to try in my typical makeup routine. After all, I was already dropping 50 bucks for the primer. I was refused, with the worker claiming that no samples were given for this particular concealer. I told her I wasn't willing to buy an entire tube if I didn't know I liked it, to which she responded, "you can return it even if you used the product". Here's where it gets GROSS. She brought me the shade I'd decided on and I went ahead and purchased it. When I got home, I could tell without even unscrewing the wand that IT HAD BEEN USED MANY TIMES. I unscrewed it anyways and confirmed my suspicion. (See pics) How is this sanitary?! I don't know if the worker was unaware that it was used, or if she thought I would be returning it anyways so why not hand me a used product, but either way, this is disgusting. I didn't know Sephora was in the bacteria-swapping business. For a business that makes a huge deal about sanitizing brushes in store, they sure don't care about sanitary practices when selling to customers. Bad experience on evening of 8/24. I came in looking for Dr. Jart+ Cicapair Tiger Grass Color Correcting Treatment and was told they did not carry it. The sales person showed me color corrector for my red skin and took me to another person who could help with a cleanser. I didn't need a cleanser but thought it doesn't hurt to learn. She basically read from a script. While she talked I saw a display of shelves devoted to Dr Jart products! How could she not know about it? I asked for a sample. I intended to buy but trust had been lost and I just wanted to leave. I planned to return or buy online from Sephora. Now I think I will just buy from Amazon or another store. It felt like bate and switch but I think the sales person was honest when she said they didn't carry the product. The woman who sold the cleanser embodied what I don't like about department store cosmetic counters. My friend said she was glad to leave and thought I had been disrespected. I'm not one for putting on makeup everyday. In fact, I rarely ever put on makeup unless it's for a special occasion. When I have the opportunity to put it on, the only things I include in my beauty repertoire are eyeliner and lip shade. This is my basic (and sole) knowledge of makeup application until I discovered Sephora. Before Sephora, I knew of nothing else. I mainly purchased makeup from the drugstore and Ulta. I heard great things about the chain from friends and family but I didn't realize how amazing this beauty mecca was until I finally set foot in the Old Orchard location a few days ago. At first I was in awe with how many quality products were on display! They had a rainbow palette of shades for lipsticks, blushes, and eye shadows. I was also impressed by their stockpile of foundations and bronzers made for every skin tone! Everything you will possibly need (whether your a novice or an expert at applying makeup) you will find right here. What's great is their products fit a range of price points although I'll have to say, don't expect drugstore chain prices on their makeup. Your paying for quality and there's a premium for that. At the very least, you'll be spending around $15-20 on a single item. The best part about Sephora (and the reason for the 5 stars) is their sales reps. Their sales reps are extremely knowledgable about the products on the shelves and are more than happy to teach you how to apply makeup the right way. You just have to ask. Sarah was my sales rep and she was amazing! I told her I was inexperienced and wanted to start using things like foundation and bronzer. Sarah not only found the perfect shades for my skin tone but she also worked within my price point! She knew exactly what I was willing to spend and didn't go over it and up sell me a product I couldn't afford. I really appreciated that. I learned a goldmine of makeup tips from her. I'm so thankful and I hope to apply these techniques when I'm at home! I left with 2 items and the trip set me back roughly $50 for eye concealer and bronzer. It's really funny when I have no problem spending $70 for foundation at Sephora but have issues shelling out $7 at a drug store for makeup. Sephora is like the central hub for makeup. They have a huge product line from many different companies that will transform anyone into a beauty queen (or king). The company is owned by the parent company of Louis Vuitton (which holds a monopoly over most of the well known luxury brands) so you know that their products are high quality. However, they DO NOT sell MAC Cosmetics or Chanel makeup. Key Points: Sephora has an amazing sample policy. They will let you test things out in store to make sure that you can go home with the perfect shade that doesn't break your skin out! That in itself is why I come here most often. I hate it when I have to buy 5 different shades of tinted moisturizer and have to return all of them because they all make me look like a clown or that I have on a mud-mask. Sephora has a loyalty program that's divided into several tiers: 1) Beauty Insider: gives you good discounts and a free birthday gift (think Nars, Make Up Forever, or another awesome brand that changes each year). 2) VIB (spend 350 in a year): gives you a 20% coupon every holiday season which is awesome because high end make up rarely, if ever goes on sale. 3) VIB Rouge (spend 1000+ in year) and you get an even higher level of perks. You get one point per dollar and you can redeem your points for cute deluxe samples and mini-kits! Staff at Sephora are knowledgeable about the brands and definitely do love makeup. I've asked random employees about products and was surprised that they were able to give me a pretty decent answer. I like all the Sephora's over the years. I like their layout with particular brands sectioned off and then their popular items on the end stands and I like the service provided by the cosmeticians. They are not overbearing and frequently will ask if you need help and they really offer good advice to me in all my interactions with them. The worker "Ashley" is unfit for her role. From the second I wakes in to the second I left. She was inattentive and looked like she didn't even want to be there. Another worker directed me to her not once but twice and she ignored my entire presence. When she finally had to interject me she was off putting. And condescending. I came to Sephora to help my friend find a foundation. We tried a few but the skin tone colors were not matching up right. She has very oily skin and so an oil free foundation with a matte finish is a must! We went up to a sales associate and asked if she could possibly help us find a foundation that would not only match her skin tone, but have the requirements. She said she would call over someone that knows how to do that. After a few minutes of wandering, Jose came over to us. We stated what we needed and Jose definitely delivered! He not only showed my friend multiple options and discussed them with us, but he the foundation she settled on, she's in love with! My friend was also looking for a primer and he showed us the perfect one. I even considered buying it myself (I regret not buying it now!). Jose during the whole process was super kind and understanding. When my friend got back to the house, she tried the foundation and primer on. Ironically for a beauty shop, they are atrocious in their customer service department and are quite notorious for it, too. Throughout the years, I have been a dedicated customer for makeovers and in the last year, it has been impossible to schedule and secure a date; even weeks to months in advance. I am directed to book an appointment online, which is not possible so far out. On top of that, the employees are rude and condescending when I try to book or even just call for clarification. The following is an absolutely true story of my first (and last) time at the Old Orchard Sephora: I go in looking for a sample of a scent that my friend let me spritz on me just a few hours earlier. This part is important! I needed more than one spritz to decide if the hefty price tag would be worth it. One associate asks if she could help me, and I tell her that I am looking for this sample. Immediately, she scrunches up her face as if I just made her eat a lemon. "Oh no honey, you don't want a sample of THAT." Why not, I ask. "It smells really bad. Nothing like what you are wearing." Um, okay. Well, but my friend says that I would really like it, I reply. She calls over sales associate #2 and tells her the perfume I am wanting to sample. "Oh no, honey," Associate #2 chirps. "Based on your personality, I can tell you that scent is all wrong for you." My personality. I ask her. How do you know my personality? I just walked in here 5 minutes ago! "Your scent personality. I can tell by what you're wearing that the scent you want to sample is all wrong for you." Associate #3 comes over to see what the hub bub is about. She takes one whiff of me and agrees with associates #1 and #2 that based on what I am wearing, I would not like this perfume AT ALL and NO WAY it would smell good on me. Ladies... seriously? I was wearing the SAME perfume I was asking for a sample of! I finally got the sample, but it was like pulling teeth and took 15 minutes. Granted, I purchased things while I was waiting. I went in tonight with no intention of buying except to grab my free birthday gift from Sephora but low and behold, I had 3 of the most happiest sales people greet me and at the cashiers that I could not stop and check out their new foundation matching system. I got my skin color matched and then Janet, who is amazing by the way, sat me down and found my perfect foundation that matched my skin perfectly. I brought the Benefit Oxygen bottle and I have never been more in love with a bottle of makeup. Janet then proceeded to show me step by step how to contour my face that Kim Kardashian made famous! Let me count the ways. 1) You are conveniently located in most large cities. 2) You carry high quality, big name brands for a reasonable price. 3) Many of your brands are environment and animal friendly. 4) The sales representatives are helpful and knowledgeable. 5) Consistency. This location is particularly wonderful. I've never had a bad experience with them and they have even convinced me to spend less through buying pallets with a sample of different colors. My Urban Decay pallet cost under $40 and lasted about three years. I just came back to buy more of their Sin shadow. The other colors in my original pallet are probably good for another 3 years. She asked me questions about my skin and really worked to find something that would fit my needs. Fast forward to now. Ok, I get that it is a Friday night, but why weren't there any makeup artists available? The one I got then acted as if she couldn't wait to get rid of me. She couldn't have cared less about my answers to her questions. The makeup station was missing items (like a mirror), everything was dirty, and when the makeup artist finally found some brushes with which to apply my makeup, they had strands of her hair on them!
