I've shopped at Sephora off and on for years, never spending all that much time in the store. Today I went for my first-ever makeup appointment (60-minute full makeup application), and had a wonderful experience. I felt like everyone, from the associate who greeted me to the consultant who did my makeup (Cindy) and a couple others who shared their opinion (Claire, Christina), really listened to what I wanted and used their knowledge and skill to make it happen. I came in for an appointment because I was nervous about doing my makeup myself for my engagement photos, and I absolutely love the way it turned out. Of course, like most girly-girls, I love going to Sephora to try on new colors, perfumes, etc. However, the customer service at the U-Village Sephora is particularly bad. I went there last week to buy a gift for a friend (Stella perfume in the roll-on that only Sephora sells) and look for grey nail polish. I found exactly what I was looking for and went to the counter. The rude woman at the counter said, "Oh, I think this is the last one," referring to the Metro Chic nail polish I was about to purchase. For some reason, they wouldn't let me buy the "last one" and said she'd have to check the drawer for more in this color. She walked over to the display opened the drawer, barely glanced at the drawer, and "confirmed" that they were out and refused to let me buy the last one. So, I went back over to find another color. Back at the counter, another bitchy salesperson rings up my sale. No smiles, no chit chat, no offers, not even a thank you and have a nice day. The people who work at this Sephora are RUDE and completely unhelpful. Next time, I'll go out of my way to the downtown store. Seriously. read more

As an avid makeup lover, I am always coming in here and I have never had a terrible experience! They always greet me at the door and always check in to make sure I'm doing okay. Whenever I ask for help finding something specific, I love that they will go ahead and ask one of their peers who may be more specialized in that certain department. Having them ask each other makes me feel like they really care about giving me the best help for my shopping trip. A couple of their workers there that always made me feel so welcome and always go above and beyond to help me out are by the names of Amorie and Kristina. Whenever I walk in, I always hope at least one of those two are working. I highly recommend going to them if you guys ever need help and they are available!! read more

I've been a VIB Rouge for years who spend 4K/year on Sephora and never had any problems with any stores except for this one. Super unfriendly and rude employees who don't know how to give proper services to a customer, especially with their attitudes. Always thought every Sephora store has great customer services but not anymore. Thanks for disappointing, not sure if I want to keep being loyal to Sephora. I've had nothing but good experiences here unlike MAC cosmetics on the other side of the village. The staff always talks to me as if I were a friend and as someone who buys a lot of 'pro' cosmetics I appreciate it very much. As for their stock of items it really depends what I'm looking for. Also, as a brown lady many foundation and concealer shades aren't available because of local demographics so I'll have to go downtown, Alderwood Mall or order online. It's kind of a pain considering I work in the area and come to this location the most, but I'd be lying if I said I weren't used to it. :) Despite this, the employees that work at this location are still helpful and I've gotten a lot of (good) recommendations based on my needs and wants. read more

We were looking for something specific and were not greeted until we finally decided to leave since not even one of the 4 employees were interested in helping us. I have been a loyal customer of Sephora for years, and while the customer service fluctuates from store to store and visit to visit, the employees are typically very helpful and courteous. However, today I visited the University Village location in Seattle for the first time, in the past I had gone to the downtown location. I just finished off my Bare Minerals powder earlier this week and had received a couple of emails about a new foundation they are carrying so I wanted to check it out. Upon entering the store I headed straight for the Bare Minerals section and proceeded to look at their new product. A store associate approached me and immediately told me that my skin was too oily for that product as it is made for people with dry skin. It took me a little off guard but I told her that I was just checking it out but I had been using the powder and was thinking about getting some more. She asked me what my color was and I told her that I had been using the fairly light, this is when the associate began getting down-right mean. She then proceeded to tell me that I tan too much and my face is darker than my neck (I don't tan) and asked me if I've ever used sunscreen. She took me over to a color-matching station and after using the device on my face, told me that none of the Bare Minerals products match my skin tone but that the closest I could get would be their number 4 and then she just stared at me. She never offered any suggestions of what would work better or offered to help me try some new products. It was traumatizing, I have never had a sales associate be that rude to me and it took a lot for me to look at her and say, "I don't think you are being very helpful". She replied that I obviously wanted Bare Minerals so she was just telling me what would happen if I got it. I responded that I was just looking at it because it was what I had used previously and she said "fine, let's go look at some other things". There was no way I was going to spend any more of my time with this lady. I then left the store and went to the Aveda next door where I ended up spending over $200. I will never go to this Sephora location again. read more

I hate to write negative reviews but I've never had a good experience in this store, but my experience a few days ago made me write a review. It probably took around 20 minutes to get anyone's attention - it wasn't even busy, they were just busy talking to each other. The woman who was helping me had truly awful make-up and really wasn't knowledgable. For example, she would just put on what people have heard of a lot (BE, Nars Sheer Glow, Laura Mercier). I came in looking for primer and a full-coverage foundation for my dry, red skin. Ultimately just got so annoyed that I just made the purchase because I felt bad after she tried 7 things... I'm not even that picky, she would just put products for oily skin on my face, which obviously doesn't make sense. Other employees were flat out rude to me. Completely looked down upon, one pointing and giggling. I'm spending $150 at your store, so I'd appreciate a little more respect or HELP at the very least! Pretty limited selection, small and cramped store. Much prefer the Alderwood location - so much more knowledgable and personable!! I will be returning everything today and instead head over to MAC. I will not be coming back to this location. read more

This is usually my go-to Sephora in Seattle, mainly because it's the closest to where I live. This is probably one of the smaller Sephora locations I've been to, but they do carry most of the popular brands and products (or at least all the ones I look for). I think this location is more neat and easier to navigate than the downtown location. Unless you are looking for something very unique and specific, this place would mostly likely have what you are looking for. It also has less shoppers which I like because I like taking my time testing out products without worrying about being in the way. I noticed that some people tend to have pretty bad customer service experiences here, and I'm not sure why because every time I come here, I've had some of the best customer service at a Sephora location. I've noticed that this place have less people working than the downtown location, and that's probably because this location don't have as much people coming in and out. I always ask for help here just because I feel more comfortable asking someone for help because there are less people here. One time, I came in search of the Tatcha products that Sephora just started to carry. I asked someone because I couldn't find. The woman I asked was actually busy with someone else and I didn't know, but she immediately flagged down someone else that could help me. She walked me through the whole process of how to use it and even offered to help me test the product. But I had a full face of makeup on so I just tested the product on my hands. She was attentive the whole time and made sure I liked the product and was comfortable with using the it before I decide to purchase it. (It was really expensive so I'm glad I at least learned how to use it so I don't waste any of it.) If what I said above didn't show how great the customer service is here, I've got more to say. Another time I came looking for a very specific shade of pink eyeshadow. I walked around the entire store probably 3 times. I was asked multiple times if I needed help by this one person and I said no every time because I didn't really know how to explain to her the eyeshadow color. But after 30 minutes of browsing, I finally asked for help. She then walked around the whole store with me and picking out all the pink eyeshadow products that they carried. She even helped me try out all the eyeshadows on my eye to make sure I find the right one, or one that is closest to what I wanted. To summarize, they definitely carry less product than other Sephora locations because it is small, but I think the customer service is much better than other places. (Maybe I just come at the right time when all the better workers are on shift.) read more

I have been there twice, and today was the last day I will step foot in that store. Both times I received horrible customer service. It's like you have to beg them to help you, and not because they are busy. I literally stood in front of 5 girls that work there without any help. They just gathered in the back and talked while I was waiting for someone to help me. this was my first visit and im glad my sister shown me this store. i swear i was only checking out the cologne, not make up hahaha. as a guy, i was a little nervous going into a make up store. but i felt really welcomed as the staff was happy to help us without being pushy at all. i really enjoyed talking to an employee about ingredients and sense of smell. i learned quite a bit that day. she also prepared samples of the cologne i was interested in/uncertain of getting. theres a big variety of cologne and hand cream in all sorts of categories in this store and i would love to come back! read more

This Sephora location is OK, except for the Formula X nail polish display. Most of the sample bottles I looked at had all dried up and were unusable. It was completely gross, but still sitting out! I was disappointed because I wanted to try out Ionic Bond, but couldn't. I've been back a second time with no change. I really expect more from a place like Sephora. On the other hand, the perfume display is really nice and the sales associates in the store are also very helpful. read more

The one redeeming aspect of this Sephora location are the ring-out girls. Every time I'm at the counter, the check-out girl is friendly and down-to-earth, perhaps this stems from the fact that they might be solely check-out workers and are not arrogant in their job position. It's makeup, your job is to make women feel better ABOUT themselves, not feel so good about yourself that you think you're better THAN them. When I go in, no one asks if I need help. In fact, they appear to be running the other way or trying to appear busy to avoid me approaching them! When I did grab ahold of them (and was amply shocked at her horrid makeup or lack thereof) I asked for a VERY simple thing, and made it clear I was going to buy whatever she found me. Easy sale, just like that. I asked, "I am buying a gift for a friend, she doesn't wear a lot of makeup and I want to get her just a little kit put together, any recommendations?" She looked blankly at me, "Well...some stuff from Benefit or Smashbox maybe. Or beauty-to-go..." After making some lame general recommendations (something anyone could've done) she walked away. I have never seen such bad customer service! Even someone on the street would be willing to answer my question better. Lack of cosmetic knowledge and even further lack of customer service knowledge. If I need something I'd rather go further and give my business to another Sephora. read more

First and last visit to a Sephora store. I felt claustrophobic and overwhelmed due to too many products in too small a space, the harsh colors and angles, and just a visually assaulting design and decor. Not restful, soothing, or appealing. It was midday on a weekday and I couldn't access a number of products because there's so little space -- if one person is by a display, no one else can access it or get by without saying excuse me. The realm of beauty and skincare is a nebulous one; with new products constantly hitting the shelves, I am skeptical of anyone who claims to have comprehensive knowledge of each and every item in stock. To my surprise, I did not run into that dilemma at this Sephora location. The staff members rely on each other to fill in the gaps of their product knowledge. I am deeply grateful for this because makeup can be quite the investment, and a trial and error approach would much rather be avoided. The U. Vill. team did a great job of passing me along to various associates who could best address my questions without making me feel like I was being just that, passed around. I'm not a makeup guru and usually feel overwhelmed at makeup counters or the makeup aisle at the drug store. The times that I have been to Sephora at U Village the staff is has been helpful without being pushy or intimidating like some dept. store counters can be. (but it's still overwhelming) They also helped me create a nice palette for my wedding and showed me tips on application. Maria was the makeup artist and she was great and super helpful. read more

I used to really like Sephora, but that was before I discovered the Nordstrom beauty area. They do seem to have a few brands that Nordstrom doesn't carry, but it's kind of not worth it, especially this location. The staff is never friendly or helpful in the least. Every single time I've come into this Sephora, I've always been asked if I needed any help. I really like their Benefit line of cometics, and they have quite the selection of perfumes. The neutralizers help for cleaning your "nose palette." The skincare line Ole Hendricksen is top of the line, though pricey for me, it's worth the indulgence. I love shopping at U-Village, so it's a win-win situation. read more

I just want to start out by saying I love makeup and I love Sephora... but the one in university village is just awful. It is always jam packed with people, making it hard to actually look at products, and it is completely understaffed. I just wanted to get color tested for a foundation, and the girl I asked said it would be a ten minute wait and to hang around the foundation I was looking at. Hmm ok, I guess I'll wait it out. Ten minutes of me stalking the same aisle passed and nothing. Not a single person. I finally decided to give up and purchase my product that was on hold, which went as expected. When I was finished I decided I would go for one last look around for anyone that could help me. I didn't find a single person that wasn't busy, and then I was literally shooed by a worker as we tried to pass each other. His hands literally flicked me away. It was so rude. I actually really like this Sephora, despite it being at a location I wouldn't go to often due to distance. Whenever I do go to this location, whatever I'm looking for is in stock and I'm not being hounded or treated as if I'm going to steal something just because I'm taking my time looking at products. It's not huge here, but it never feels overly crowded and I'm able to actually look in peace, unlike the Southcenter location. read more

I'm gonna say meh...... Their store is pretty small and compact. I did find the make up case that I wanted, which I didn't find at the Downtown location. But the lady had forgotten to give me my change, so I was just left with a dime, and the 6 bucks was still in the register. But I like that fact I got to carry a big Sephora bag home. read more

For a smaller Sephora this one is great! I've never had a bad experience here and someone always greets me within a minute of walking in. And then usually another person does about a minute after that! The workers are very helpful and don't seem to mind if you're spending $15 or $200. Small location, but very helpful people working there. I had come in a couple days after my birthday and I'm a Beauty Insider, so I wanted my bday gift and was also in search of a particular Charlotte Ronson eyeshadow palette called Angela. The girl who was helping me searched high and low and finally found 1, apparently it was popular. I looked around some more and found a few more things, then checked out. I got some new makeup and also a trial size pair of Fresh's lip balms as my bday gift. I'll be back here again for more of my makeup needs. read more

Though I don't wear much makeup in my daily life, I am addicted to wandering through Sephora and playing with all the cosmetics. Besides the amazing colors and selection they have available, their helpful and never condescending staff is willing to assist in finding good colors and will even provide makeovers for you. Besides that, their perfume selection is lovely, and the rose bud lip balm they sell is so convenient and effective that even my fiance will wear it when his lips are chapping. When I have money, this is where I (unfortunately) go to get rid of it. read more

This store is a little smaller than other Sephora stores in the area (Downtown and Bellevue) but they have the basics and are good for a quick stop in if you need something. The service at the register was good but considering this was our first time in the store it would have been nice if someone could have helped us find what we were looking for. As a self proclaimed makeup junkie, I cannot walk by a Sephora. I can spot the black and white stripes a mile away. This location is a smaller Sephora and it doesn't carry some brands such as Bobbi Brown and Estée Lauder. If you're planning on purchasing something specific at this location, either call in advance or check online. Since it's pretty small, it can get quite tight and crowded during popular hours, but that's expected. Staff is hit or miss, either they're very helpful and pleasant and eager to help or they look annoyed and bored whenever you ask for help. Nevertheless, this place is a girl's heaven and this store brightens up my day. read more

U village sephora employees are very rude, not accepting of different types of individuals, and need serious customer service training. I never feel welcome while shopping there. Its a beautiful store, they just need nicer people working there. The skin care specialist there was very rude as well and I felt like, I believe his name was Rick, did not like me because of my skin color. In the past I have found the customer service at this Sephora to be lacking in friendliness and efficiency. The last time I was there, however, I had three different salespeople approach me asking if I needed help. They were all knowledgeable and gave good suggestions. I even screwed up and took the samples of nail polish to the counter to purchase and they were very nice about it. I never write reviews for Sephora because I go so often but I feel like I need to write about my experience at the uvill Sephora because it was exceptional. I've been to this Sephora location and multiple locations in California but I never felt impressed enough with anyone to want to write a review, well, Claire changed that. I have acne, my skin dries out easily and I always want cruelty free brands. I've come to navigate my own way around Sephora stores because most associates can't seem to address everything I want/need or they just don't seem to care but claire was so knowledgeable! Not once did she have to refer to other associates to answer questions or seemed unsure about anything. She was so knowledgeable, friendly and I wish there was one of her at any Sephora go to. I've experienced bad customer service at this particular store. I had purchased an eye liner and this associate did not have smile for any bit, did not say Thank You, did not put the eye liner that I've purchased in a bag or didn't even asked me if I'd like it to be in the bag. Compare to how I was treated here, this associate smiled, said Thank you, and put the lipgloss in a bag for My cousin who was next in line at cashier. Associates should say "Thank You" to all customer after them making purchases no matter what! I do love Sephora though. read more

I have to agree with others. If I need anything from Sephora...I buy online and only use store to return. Just finished writing complaint letter to corporate. Not thrilled with 20 something girls wearing black lab coats who give the samples to friends to sell on eBay (not kidding...saw this during a trip with my daughter) and wouldn't show me how to do a smoky eye for my daughter's dance competition. Before coming here I had bought a concealer from another department store and when I got home I realized they sold me a completely different product than I had picked out. I was super unhappy so I came here to buy my concealer this time. I explained to the girl that I was looking for a high coverage concealer. She wasn't very familiar with the different product lines but she sent James over to help me who was AMAZING! He recommended Laura Mercier high coverage concealer and I am so happy he turned me on to the product, it's the best one I have ever had. I also got a few free products because it was my birthday month and I apparently had points on my account. Thank you Sephora! You rock read more
