Aveda offers birthday parties for members of their rewards program. Last year, I attended with a friend and it was fun. They had snacks and samples including mini hair brushes and stickers all laid out when we arrived. I also received a $25 coupon for bringing in a guest and was told, they offer $25 for each guest brought to a party. This year my birthday came and went without the usual invitation to come in for a free composite oil or party. Several days after my birthday I received a text inviting me to schedule a facial or party. I asked a few friends and scheduled the party. I asked some friends and scheduled with the Aveda salesperson. What a different experience. Nothing laid out, a few packaged snacks in a bin. Further she told me that they no longer offer the $25 per guest, that they had cancelled it a month before. So frustrating. If i'd actually gotten the message to schedule in time for my birthday, I still would have gotten the gift. Two of my friends purchased about $200 in products each. Not a great way to do business. They do have some good products, but they are very pricey and I've not had the promised success with many of them. There are many other companies with great products and integrity so I'll explore those. read more

The sales lady was very rude. She recommended two separate lotions to use on my face - I told her I only wanted one product that would do the trick, and she went on to explain why I should use these two. Whatever happened to meeting the customer's needs? I need one face lotion, that's all. I picked out one of the two she was recommending and she responded snarkily, "your dry spots are NOT going to be happy," then turning around, marched toward the checkout counter, then never addressed me again. I am dumbfounded as to why the attitude as I listened to her recommendations politely and made the request for one product politely... So I didn't listen her, I'm the customer! Don't be rude to me. DO NOT COME TO THIS STORE UNLESS YOU WANT TO BE TREATED POORLY. read more

I had the most spectacular visit today thanks to Sydney. I read an article online that listed an Aveda shampoo that had enough great reviews that I wanted to try it. I went in around 7:30 and immediately I was offered tea and shown the shampoo I was looking for. Sydney offered to do a scalp assessment and together we learned more about my hair. She helped me select a shampoo that would fit my hair better and was really knowledgeable about what I could do to help revitalize my hair and scalp. The whole thing was complimentary and informative; I never felt rushed or that she was just trying to sell me on something so she could get me out the door. I definitely spent more than I anticipated, but after the incredible service I received, I'm hopeful for a great outcome. read more

Aveda is highly involved in the community, protecting the environment (even more so during Earth Month) and building relationships with guests. This is my go-to Aveda store in Seattle. Just a few of the wonderful things about this store: --They often offer a free hand massage, mini-facial or something like that while you are there. --They collect plastic lids for recycling...the ones the city won't take. --They are patient with the fact that I usually have my little on in tow, and will offer her some paper or something to color --And of course, the wonderful Aveda products and scents. :) read more

Once you're greeted by a salesperson, you're offered a cup of tea. This is nice on these cold days. I was also offered a little 5 minute hand massage, to test out their lotions. It felt nice. I absolutely love this Aveda location. What sets it apart from the other ones is the customer service, and their willingness to actually teach you how to use the products. I love Aveda products and could just buy them online, but this location focuses on the experience and the education-they go above and beyond to make sure the products actually address your concerns. It is always a highlight of my day to come in, restock on my favorites and be pampered with tea and the occasional facial/massage. read more

I had a free 20-minute facial coupon from Aveda and stepped into Aveda store in U village for the first time to try it out. The space is so open and welcoming and smells amazing. Someone greeted me immediately, gave me a piece of paper to fill out which basically consisted of what I wanted to have addressed in this facial session and asked me if I wanted to drink a cup of tea while doing it. Soon Brennan came over and started talking to me about the products I could buy from Aveda that would help my skin. He then sat me down and started my short facial session with different products, specifically mentioning what he was using at each step. He finally placed a mask on my skin for a few minutes and massaged my hands with a stress-fix cream with lavender scent. I ended up buying one of the products he used for the facial and was told I could easily return or exchange them. I also got a few samples from Brennan too. Everyone at the store was super courteous, Brennan was super polite, nice and helpful and it was just a delightful experience. We will see how the product works on my skin. read more

I'm fond of Aveda and you might be too if you are: --into smells Aveda products smell really good, except when they don't. You're invited to select your own scents to mix into lotions, bath gels, or shampoos, but 20 minutes of straight sniffing will take its toll. They encourage intermittent whiffs of coffee beans to renew, but nevertheless, the nose becomes bewildered. This happened to me and I came home with a lotion that smelled like Honey Bucket. They let me exchange it for a more pleasant one. --eco-conscious Buy beauty goods without feeling like a bonehead. Aveda uses plant-based alternatives to synthetic ingredients. They also strive toward green energy: corporate headquarters are solar powered, some distribution centers are wind-powered. Much of their packaging is made from recycled paper, cosmetic cases are sturdy and refillable. Aveda forms partnerships with indigenous communities around the globe that protect sustainability, fair trade, and land rights. --goal-oriented The promise of a new mini-troll doll or a kitten diary with a lock or large fluffy dice got my 8 year old throwin' arm through all those games of skee ball. Similarly, the Pure Privilege program ($10) wins you points when you buy, redeemable for products, hair treatments, spa trips. Unlike other consumer incentive programs, you get regular rewards just for being a member, like a free product on your birthday and coupons for travel-size items every few months. read more

For being in the U Village this Aveda store is actually really great, plus it's right across from Fran's. Every time I go in here I'm greeted with a warm and friendly hello and hot tea, tea so hot it burns your mouth but its good tea just very hot so be careful when you accept it. I love walking in and saying I want to find something that will help with 'this' problem and with in seconds I have products in front of me to play with and smell and try and with a little more talking I'm able to find a product that fixes my problem. Plus I love all their travel size products, I'm never pushed to buy the full size but to try the travel size to see if I really like it and that it works and if it doesn't they are great with returns. read more

OOOHHHH Thisis such a luxurious place. Staff are open, friendly, warm and very knowledgeable of their products. I tried a lipstick sample, DARN, after 20 minutes it changed a bi tto too wild. That happens with me often with lipstick. I was particularly interested in their face creams for my skin. They are pricey; more so than stuff I can buy from Seattle Super Supplements.. which is better? I am not sure. I think a combination of cream and then super vitamins will make a difference. I recommend going. I am going back for a lighter shade of lipstick and to read ingredients on the face cream. read more

Here's the thing about Aveda - if you want to save money, then don't go to Aveda. They have an assortment of body, hair, face stuff which all smell so nice but when it comes down to it, it's not going to make you taller or more popular with the guys/gals. You pay a lot, you get to smell nice, that's how Aveda works. I used to frequent this place much more when it carried this line of overpriced candles I had to have (don't ask. Like I said, this is a store for the impractical.) I got so many Aveda points from the purchase of candles that I managed to finagle several gift certificates to Aveda salons out of it. So, now I go and get the lipsaver - this chapstick that costs about 10x a usual chapstick you'd get at the drugstore...but let's leave our brains at the door, shall we? Every Aveda offers you tea upon entering and gives you the option of some scalp or hand massage. Last time I partook of the hand massage stressy thing (actually, you massage your own hands - a guy named Sven doesn't come out and do it for you). Then, I walked home with a bunch more overpriced stuff I don't need. Aveda, you're more drug addiction where I don't have any. Help! read more

I love Aveda products, but that's not the reason for this review today. I went in looking for two specific products. They were out of the beautifying composition oil (fantastic product) and Emily at the Uvillage store, went above and beyond to get me that product, even after I told her it was ok, that I would just order online. She was able to get another Aveda location to ship me the products, with no addtional charge. Her demeanor was joyful and genuine, and her pleasant and excellent customer service is one that all of us could learn from. read more

They are really friendly, knowledgeable, and extremely helpful. I like Aveda products, but I dislike the service here. During my most recent visit, the male sales person (on my receipt it states Brennen E) was not genuine, pushy, and condescending. Mind you, I have a graduate degree from UW so I do not need to be treated like a child. I'm pretty certain I was clear in explaining myself in assertive yet gentle way, but nevertheless he would not stop lecturing me on how their loyalty program has expired for me so I needed to purchase another one. All this is too bad, because I'm at a point in my life where I like to treat myself with quality products and would have traded a lot of items that I typically get from Sephora. However, after this experience as well as their customer service online, I think I'll continue shopping at other stores such as Nordstrom where there's quality for products and customer service. read more

Aveda, the store, always smells so good. Aveda, the products, also smell good! The effectiveness, for me, has been half and half. Aveda, the people, if you happen by the store when there are no customers (or 1 other), run in there and start talking with an employee. They tend to spend a lot of time on customers..cool when you're the customer. Not cool if you aren't. This particular visit, we were the only ones in the store. We were immediately offered (hot) tea, which I was eh on because it was still in the 80s in Seattle. But I accepted it because she already poured me some and held the tray out expectantly. And the tea...was good! I might have to buy some later. The sales girl was very nice and helped me locate a scent for the free "pure-fume" offer my sister had. Tip: And that's another thing, if you join their club (Pure Privilege for $10) they send you free coupons every so often and you earn points when you shop. The store people are fine with you coming in to get your free thing. You know how some places look down on you for just wanting your freebie...well, they don't do it here. And in fact, at another Aveda location, my sister went in to redeem some free hair conditioner and the girl (who remembers us) also gave me a tube because I was with her. Anyway, back to the products. I have used their Botanical Kinetics Exfoliant for the better part of a year and haven't noticed a difference. Perhaps I need to use their whole line? I can revisit it again later. I'm currently using their Foot Relief, which is yummy smelling and keeps my feet from looking too ashy...which is very important during the summer. :) read more

I prefer shopping online usually. No parking hassles, no tax and usually no snippy salespeople who dislike their jobs and most of humanity. This store is one of my exceptions to the rule. I actually enjoy going into this particular Aveda and picking up the products I need. The parking is manageable during the week (avoid the craziness that is the weekend) and the employees friendly. If you like their products, I recommend signing up for their Pure Privilege. It is one time fee of $10 USD and then begin to accrue points + free samples on your visits. On the particular day that I signed up, there was double points offered so I figured what the heck I've enjoyed the free samples because they are perfect to toss in my toiletries bag for overnight trips. This particular store has some of the nicest employees I have ever encountered. Enjoy your cup of tea that you are offered and a treatment if you are offered one. I accepted a hand massage with some of their lotion and nearly slipped off the wooden stool with delight at how nice it felt. It was nuts looking at my scalp under the little camera they have! I enjoyed learning more about my hair and the complimentary aromatherapy shoulder massage. There are 3 things I like about Aveda: tea, samples, and massages. All of which you can get for free. Tea is free if you walk in and they brewed tea they will serve you a cup. The tea is non-caffeinated, fully organic, and naturally sweet. Samples are free if you join their membership and walk in with your sample postcard which they mail out every 2-3 months. The samples range from hair styling products to shower gels that are large enough for 5-6 uses. Massage is free if you walk in to this U-village branch and they are not too busy serving customers. Pretty much every time I asked for a massage, they gave me one without caring if I was there to buy stuff. But I do purchase. I have been buying their tea for the last six years. I use their essence oils and shampoos. My friends knew I like Aveda so they bought me body massage oil and fragrance candles for my birthday. I think their products are strongest in the hair products, pretty decent in their aromatherapy lines, and perhaps a little more on the bland side for skin care --- maybe it's just that I did not feel much for the $40 face cream. They also have cosmetics and products for men, which I haven't tried and cannot comment on. They offer a really comfortable environment and service and try to connect with their customers and Earth. They know what they want in their products and from their customers. I love that. read more

I'll admit it, I'm an Aveda freak. When it comes to my hair needs, I head to my favorite Aveda salon every 8 weeks and I only use Aveda hair care products. I tend to re-up on my products at the UVillage location because then I can also stop by a few of my other favorite spots in the area (Mud Bay, Evolution Fresh, and Pasta & Co and my must visits). Though after years of "should have known," I just figured out I could get Pure Privilege points when I buy my shampoo at the salon and don't need to make an extra trip to get it... Things to love: -the staff is pretty friendly and helpful. They tell you about new products but don't tell you that you should buy them if they're not for you. If they're not terribly busy you might even get a hand massage while you're in : ) -double points days for Pure Privilege! I've been saving up my points for almost 7 years and I'll be saving them up for the foreseeable future...gotta get to Antigua! -tea while you browse. Every Aveda has tea, it's one of the things I love about them. -travel sizes galore. If you need something in a travel size, head to the store, they probably have it. I really have no complaints about this spot, other than that the regular sized color conserve conditioner isn't refillable due to the way it's designed, which isn't so much a problem with the store as a problem with Aveda's packaging. read more

I don't know what this store is, or what it sells, but I walked by the other day and they had live mannequins standing in the windows. I haven't seen that before. It was cool. They were hot too. I was confused though, they are mannequins, but I felt like I couldn't look at them for more than a few seconds without being some kind of lascivious weirdo. That sort of defeats the purpose doesn't it, to have mannequins in the windows that you shouldn't look at? I dunno, I wasn't going to buy anything anyway. Been curious about their skincare products for a while and ready for some new changes. Greeted and when he saw the card, handed me a little sample and stepped away. As soon as I walked in I felt accosted by the sales tactics, and I said I was just buying product but was further besieged by very persistent upselling. I don't blame the employees; they're just doing their job. But I won't go back to this salon -- I'm buying online only from now on as it was too stressful fending off the aggressive selling and upselling. Took my daughters here after seeing a sign outside advertising curly hair prodcuts. My daughter has curls for days and I was looking into purchasing some products. The sign said a free sample inside. The lady that "greeted" us. I use greeted loosely asked me what I needed. I politely told her. She's like what? And I again reiterated my interest in that line. She stood there with a scowl and blinked and said oh, then rudely walked ofd. She returned with two random samples not even explaining what they were. And walked away. I told her I'm still looking. And asked what curly hair products she had. She was like they are over there and showed us where they were. She then rudely walked away. I saw other clients in the store being helped out. But I was treated so poorly by her. My two young daughters were shocked by the treatment. The woman acted as if I was not welcomed and that my business meant nothing. Never have I felt unwanted or uncomfortable in a store like I was yesterday. Aveda supposedly prides itself in customer experience and catering to the consumer. I was ready to purchase the line of products and while they might be wonderful, I was not going to spend my money at a place where I am not welcomed. I have reported to their corporate and am waiting on a callback. Seems I'm not the only one with customer service issues. Really offended! read more

There is a fine line between good customer service and feeling assaulted. I went into this store on Sunday and was "greeted" by several employees one after another. One man was persistent in interviewing me with one question after another in a lame attempt to lure me to different products he obviously felt I needed to buy. He was relentless and didn't even pause to take a breath. He kept persisting, moving from one product line to another, even asking if I colored my hair. What a pathetic attempt to get someone interested in your products. Good service is one thing, but barraging someone the moment they walk into your store and then questioning/harassing them until they buy something is another. I will never go back to this store, even though they may have good products. read more

I have been using AVEDA products for 16 years and I love most of the products I've used with the exception of the INVATI line. I went in one day to replenish my shampoo, which I bounce from the Shampure and Damage Remedy Line. A sales associate approaches and asks what I'm looking for and I reply with, "just looking". She then asks if she can take a picture of my scalp, which is new since I've never experienced this before and states that I have a lot of "build up on my scalp". She explains that the Invati line will help with retaining hair and sloughing off the build up on my scalp, allowing for new hair growth. She encourages me that this line is appropriate for me and my current scalp status. I decide to give it a try. I should have returned the product after the first night based on the scent alone (not a pleasant scent), but I thought, I'll give this line a chance. Initially, the hair loss was subtle but toward the fourth week, I was losing a lot of hair in the shower. My part is wider and my scalp more visible. My hair has thinned out from this product, which is very upsetting as I took great care of my hair. I had thick strong hair and now thinned and dried out from the product. I immediately stopped using the products and called University Village - Aveda and explained my situation. It just so happened to be the same woman who encouraged me to purchase the most expensive line of their products. She stated over the phone that there can be initial hair loss and I stated that I would not have purchased this product if that information had been disclosed. She stated that I could return the product but sounded very annoyed. So, I went in the following day and again it was the same woman and again I explained to her what the product had done to my hair. She again used that ridiculous camera to take a picture of my scalp and stated that this was the best line for me. She appeared bothered and annoyed that I was asking for a return, and I again stated that I was losing too much hair. She had terrible customer service skills and unprofessional with a heavy sigh and all. Not at all empathetic to my hair loss. I then called Aveda customer service to explain my experience and to place a complaint against the sales associate. I asked if they had any other complaints about the product itself and the woman on the other end, carefully stated that people have been reacting differently to the Invati line products. She also stated that the line does not stimulate hair growth but rather helps to keep the hair you have longer, which did the complete opposite for me. I then stated that the sales associates in the stores need more training and to disclose information such as potential hair loss because I would have never purchased this line. I then stated that I found it very interesting that they are "aggressively" pushing this new line, that just so happens to be their most expensive line. The customer service agent sounded insincere with a rote response. Disappointing! Again, I love the other products and have resumed the use of the Shampure line but DO NOT use the Invati line if you want to keep the hair you have. Also, the day time associates as well as customer service agents need additional customer service training. I will avoid the store and try to purchase Aveda products at outside salons. read more

Terrible customer service to a previously loyal customer: a number of years ago I had purchased an Aveda Pure Privilege card and was happily racking up points, saving them for a facial. Each time I purchased something, the sales person confirmed this was a wise thing to do with my points. They NEVER told me, however, that the points expire if I don't make a purchase during a certain period of time. I went in a few days ago to try to redeem them, only to find out that they had very recently expired. When I pointed out this was not great customer service (if they had told me earlier that the points would expire I would have redeemed them and I wondered why they want to piss off a client), they just shrugged. I asked to have the points reinstated and they refused. This would have cost them nothing and generated a lot of good will. Hmm, I guess they don't really want my business. Hope you don't give them yours either! read more
