One of the smaller Sephora stores I have been in, but I had a gift card I wanted to use and was in the area. I came in looking for a Stilla product. They were not that busy. Not one person acknowledged me or asked if they could help even though I was passed by multiple salespeople. I finally asked someone who was nice enough but after walking around she had to ask another sales associate and it turns out they only sell it online now. This is by far one of the worst places I have ever been. The staff treated us like we weren't there to spend money because when we asked for help they ignored us and continued to talk amongst themselves, even after I looked at the woman whom I had previously asked for assistance, she just continued to ignore us. Seriously Sephora, hire people WHO ACTUALLY WANT TO WORK, and aren't standing there doing nothing like the lazy balugas that they are! Ever since I began buying my own make-up, years ago btw, this store has been my go-to. But of all the locations, this one is my favorite. The staff has always provided friendly service. I get everything here for my face here from face wash to foundation. Everything! The rewards card has it's benefits, too! I did just go in to get away from the heat and warm weather. As soon as I walked in the girl said hi, I did tell her I was just browsing. Walked around for a while and another girl did ask if I needed help, I didn't so I kept walking on my leisure makeup/beauty care stroll. I did find a highlighter I did like, no more on the shelf so I asked one of the girls if there were any more. So she did check in a drawer and she did find it!!! If I could give no stars I would. I have worked retail and managed retail for most of my life and this place either needs to do a better job training or rehire completely. As soon as you walk in all you get are associates glaring at you, they are not helpful at all when you ask for help and always act like they are annoyed and don't want to be working there. This store is okay, but I frequent it because a) I live in Santa Barbara and it's convenient/the only Sephora, b) they reel me in with their Beauty Insider program, so if I need to buy a product that they sell here (i.e., Loccitane lotion), I will. The reason why the rating is slightly low, is because I think this store is kind of messy, unstocked, and unkept. For instance, some of their products are out for a long period of time. Also, the try-on stations are never stocked (i.e., out of sponges, etc.), and this is something that can very easily be stocked, because they always seem to have enough staff. The staff does seem pretty friendly, I'm usually approached and asked if I need help. And once I had to return a product I tried that didn't work on my face, and the cashier was really nice about it. If they just cleaned up a little bit, the rating would be 4 stars. read more

Good things about this location: - Their employees are generally great. Every time I come here in need of something they're pretty helpful. Just today, I went in search of a matte, natural lip color and Julie was fantastic. She asked what kind of color I was looking for and found some colors that she thought might work, but after realizing I wasn't a fan she was quick to ask for more suggestions and found a few different products based on what I said because she acknowledged that customers have different preferences. She didn't rush me into deciding whether or not I liked something, and was also very conversational and friendly. I had a few more questions regarding my brows and brushes for foundation and I didn't feel like she was just trying to "get rid of" me. - I have been using the NARS Tinted Moisturizer and have been in love with it, but after this craze with BB Creams, I asked an employee about it. She told me that it was't too different from the NARS I already have (aside from the built-in primer) and that the NARS seemed to be doing fine on my face, commenting that I had good skin which isn't in need of much coverage anyway. Rather than trying to sell me the product, she realized that the product I already own is working. This meant a lot to me! - They have a huge selection. Sephoras are generally impressive stores but this one is in a large shopping center in Santa Barbara so by nature they need to have a good variety of products. - It's in a convenient location. When I'm downtown and just browsing around, it's always easy for me to stop in and check out some new stuff. Things this store could improve on: - Although their employees are usually awesome, there are a few that do try to push their preferences on you. I came in a few days ago looking for a matte, natural lip color and the employee assisting me was not very helpful; thus I had to come in again today. (I lucked out with Julie helping me out though!) - The employees are nice but are not always attentive. Sometimes I will walk in and they will ask me how I am doing but won't necessarily ask if I need assistance. When they're busy you have to flag them down. - They run out of things quickly. I went two weeks ago in search of a particular foundation brush (#55) but they were out. The employee assisting me advised me to come back the next day because she said they'd have more in stock; I came back two days later and they were still out, so I had to wait to get it until today. Today, another customer found a nice lip color but found that they were out of it. - I HATE THE LIGHTING IN THIS STORE WHEN IT'S DARK. Ugh. It's super bright all over and therefore it's difficult for me to determine whether something looks good in natural light. - 13-year-old girls who know nothing about makeup always come in and mess up the samples, either by moving them around or messing up the product itself. Very annoying, but no real fault of the salespeople. I know that I have more in the latter category, but the employees that have helped me out in the past make this store stand out, bringing it from what would be a 3 to a 4. read more

This review is for a private beauty party with Sandra and Jarrod. I hosted a private beauty party with 5 friends on 8/21, Sandra and Jarrod were our hosts and did a phenomenal job! COMMUNICATION: From the start, they were super responsive to my messages and were very helpful in answering questions as I was planning the event. We had to change the date at one point, and Sandra went above and beyond to work with my schedule and make sure everything was secured. SETUP: They set up a table behind the checkout counter in the Sephora store. I was worried we might be in the way of customers, but it was no problem at all; you can tell they know what they're doing :) The table was set up with each of our spots, brushes, etc laid out. They also provide some light beverages and snacks which were catered to my preference (sparking water, fruit, dark chocolate), and I loved this personal touch! PARTY/HOSTS: Sandra and Jarrod are the best hosts!!! They were so friendly and enthusiastic the whole time, did an excellent job giving instructions on how to do the makeup (we did a daytime to nighttime smokey eye lesson), and were very helpful with all our questions and guiding us in techniques. Everyone loved it!! None of us are heavy makeup wearers, but we still had a blast. I now feel like I could do a legit smokey eye look if I ever had to, AND learned some things I may add to my minimal makeup routine (not all tips were just applicable to smokey eyes). It's more than a store with beauty products, it's about the experience and customer service. Vicky helped me with finding products for my fly away hair. When teh product I was looking for was out of stock she offered samples of two other similar products (great sales technique). It was the old school Sephora experience, it was fun & exciting! The cashier (male) was awesome as well, really comfortable to talk to when checking out like he cared what I thought. |While the store is not as well stocked as the Los Angeles area Sephora's it has got the customer service care that I find lacking in LA. Recently, this Sephora has been lacking severely in customer service. I have gone in twice now and I was not greeted nor helped on both occasions. Today I came in, granted I was on the phone, but I was not greeted and there was no one near the door. I walked around for about 10 minutes looking for a product and no one was around to help. Where do I begin... 0 stars if I could. I'm a make up addict, I spend thousands of dollars at Sephora & go there fairly regularly. Tonight was absolutely unacceptable. My fiancé & I had gone in together since they were having their 20 percent off sale. He was looking for a new expensive cologne & I was looking for some more skincare (I had gotten a sample of a toner a couple weeks back that I was going to purchase.. so clearly samples do help make sales) i had over 350$ worth of products in my basket that I was going to purchase & as I was shopping my fiancé had gotten help with some cologne (they gave him some samples since he wasn't sure which one he liked) Some rude redheaded employee helped him with the samples. When I had met back up with him in skincare I was curious in a face mask for myself, but of course.. no employee in sight. Just a guy and that redheaded girl in a convo. As I politely interrupted asking if I could have some help getting a sample on a facemask she jumped down my throat & in a very rude tone said "The friend you were with had already gotten samples & hadn't You gotten some earlier!?" I'm not sure if she was mad I interrupted her convo or what but not only had I not gotten a sample earlier but she made me feel super uncomfortable & like I was cheap for no reason at all. I came in here on a busy Saturday with a list a mile long for all the products I needed to get ready for a wedding that was happening in 3 hours! I was immediately introduced to Brenda. She is an adorable bubbly young woman who clearly loves what she does! She used the skin IQ machine to help me find a great foundation and then made a bunch of informative and spot on recommendations! I ended up loving everything she showed me and didn't feel like she was just trying to make a sale. Even tho I own a lash studio, I had her also apply some strip lashes for me! Customer service at this location is a JOKE! What happened?? The employees were so extremely rude and unprofessional I couldn't even believe my eyes. All the staff gossiping with each other completely ignoring customers. Letting their friends get in line with them while they bought things and held up the line. I have never waited in line for so long in my life. To be perfectly blunt. There are a bunch of chola looking, horribly un attentive people working there. A sales associate here just found the perfect shade of lipstick for me--amazing! At first I was skeptical because it looked cotton candy pink in the tube and I work in a conservative profession where girliness is not respected. When I put it on though, it looked au naturel, made my skin glow, and brought out the green in my eyes. I was really impressed. I have been to several Sephora stores throughout my travels in central coast and Southern California, but this Sephora has the BEST staff of any I have shopped with before. Manny took the time to not only tell me about the Clarisonic cleansing system, but he also showed me each of the models and the various features. This was a pretty costly tool and so the decision to buy was not without research. He answered all my questions and was very knowledgable about the product line. Recently, I have thrown out some of my years old makeup and I was long overdue to get some new makeup. I stumbled upon Sephora when I was in Santa Barbara. Now I usually don't buy a whole lot of makeup here but I felt like spoiling myself. The service was honestly spectacular. I felt like I was being treated with royalty, which is what a lady should feel like when spending their lifesavings on makeup. I wish the worker who helped us gave us her name but she had dark hair and was very helpful (ie deciding which brush for my liquid eyeliner, picking out the shade of my skintone for my concealer). Best of all...after purchasing all my items I got added 100 points to my Sephora account and I I got to choose one free item(which was the Purity cleanser). I am so in love. Sandra saved the day. I had a fashion show as a model in the Paseo Nuevo mall and a "makeup artist" at Macy's butchered my makeup :-(. I felt so insecure and not very pretty at all. I did not want to walk the runway. I went to Sephora because I know they are knowledgeable about makeup. The prior makeup artist didn't even match my skin tone with the amount of crap she put on my face...I looked dead. I was so lucky to come across Sandra at Sephora who completely fixed my disastrous makeup making me feel like a million dollars (or at least way better about the situation). I love Sephora but I was very disappointed with this location. Their customer service representatives are very unprofessional and mean. I went to try to find a new lipstick and get some products but left without buying a thing. No one asked if I needed help and when I went to ask some girl in the makeup artist section for help she passed me some tissues and didn't even help me. I was so upset. I asked her again for help because I was struggling with one lipstick, which she could clearly see, and she just said "you need to lighten it" and left. I've been here numerous of times and their service is lackluster at best, however, I had a pretty awesome experience today, and took their survey - this is what I wrote in the comments: I generally purchase my products online as it's easier to find and I'm never in a rush to get things. However, I wasn't sure what kind of eyeliner I wanted - I knew I wanted a range of blues/greens/silvers - something bright, with a soft/smooth texture that was pretty much idiot proof to apply. I walked into the store - within 5ft of entry, there was an associate, I met her eyes, she looked at me, no words were exchanged. She was just standing there (not waiting on a customer). I walked by another associate, who I thought walking towards me but actually walking towards the associate that was just standing there. I cruised around the store, walked by a few more, another male associate was busy checking out his reflection in the wall mirror as I passed by him, without being greeted. I passed by a couple more (there are ALOT of people working there at 330 in the afternoon), not one person said "hello". I may not be put together, but I don't look homeless, or a tween, a little common courtesy isn't that much to ask for. I am crouched down at the Clarisonics when I hear a voice behind me - I'M NOT INVISIBLE!!! - she asked me if I needed help. My Sephora Fairy Godmother Suzy was a GEM!! I wanted a Clarisonic plus set (to replace the one I have) but they didn't have it in stock. I asked her about eyeliners - she cruised around the ENTIRE store and the back room for what I requested - had to be in a set, so I didn't have to think about what colors to buy. She comes back in a few minutes, her arms loaded with options for me. Why I liked it, I didn't have to cruise through the whole store with her, YAY! Mind you, she hauled ALL my selections to the register for me so I could stay focused on my mission. I didn't want her to think she was my slave, but I appreciated her efficiency and her understanding that I just wanted to get what I wanted and get out of there. I appreciated her coming me and asking if I wanted help, even though I was squatted down looking at the lowest shelf, when no one else in the store noticed me with my "I HAVE A QUESTION, I NEED HELP, Deer in the headlights look on my face". (And she was behind me, asking if I wanted to be helped - so she didn't see my sad sad face of lost confusion). In the end, my Sephora Fairy Godmother Suzy came to the rescue!! She showed me (and I purchased) a handful of different brands of eyeliners (this alone is a feat as I'm brand-loyal and like to stick to 1 brand for everything)! Her enthusiasm with the glo-smile validated my immediate need to purchase this (I've actually been thinking about getting this for over a year and a half). You know that scene in pretty woman when Julia Roberts gets vindicated by walking to the sales associate who snubbed her the day before, that's kind of how I felt like when I walked out of your store with a giant bag filled with goodies, as my means to flip off the sales associates who didn't think I was worthy of their time. I showed her a few pictures and she combined aspects from all of them to make the perfect look. Whenever I go in I have to hunt down an associate to help me with something, and when they do I know more about a product than they do!
