I had a facial here recently. It was mostly relaxing and comfortable. My only complaint I felt the estetcian moved very quickly and it felt a little too rapid to me. Taking away from the relaxing feeling. The only recommendation I would give is to slow down and create a more relaxing pace. :) Overall, it was a nice facial. read more

I have always enjoyed this gift shop for hard to find fragrances, candles, lotions and potions, cards for pretty much every holiday, jewelry, baubles and beads, fun novelty gifts, baby and children's books and toys . . . come to think of it, they pretty much have a plethora of of all things cute and colorful. And there is nothing more fun than planning a visit to Skin Deep after a delicious breakfast at either Farmer Boy or Via Maestra 42, or shopping before lunch at Harry's Plaza. All these delicious restaurants are in the same shopping block. Staff has always been very helpful, and I have always appreciated their specialty gift wrapping at Christmas time. read more

This is my favorite beauty store! I love how they have a variety of skincare, press on nails, and candles. Not only do they have a lot of items, the store is nicely kept together and organized. The gift wrapping skills are out of this world and I love Diane's beautiful hand writing. She is my go to person when I purchase gift cards from here! A phantom of the shop it used to be, and the emptiness of the shop and salon/spa areas are a testament to that. Staff used to be so bubbly, fun, helpful, generous. Now it is somber, not welcoming, not generous. Gone are the days of a bag of samples with a substantial purchase, gone are sales people that actually know the products. I am happy that the previous owner and her sister retired....they deserve it, but I'll be shopping online for my products now. read more

What happened to skin deep? If you expect to be greeted when you walk in, forget about it! if you expect any customer service, forget about it. The girls are too busy mingling in the back talking to bother with the customer. I've gone in several times and got the same cold shoulder so I've given up and I'm done. Not only that but the merchandise selection is so poor. I didn't even see anything I was remotely interested in besides, I didn't wanna give them my business because of the lack of customer service so just as well. The new owners need to get educated on customer service and how about some good merchandising. It's not what it used to be and it's very sad what it's become. read more

How much do I love Skin Deep? So, so much. For one thing, it's reassuring in a town so changed to come back to a place I shopped in the 1990s. My skincare regimen has been set since 2017. Tatcha (Japanese skincare) for cleanser and exfoliating rice powder. My friend, Liliana at Faces by Liliana, makes the best toner I've ever used. I was faithful to Tatcha till Fall 2020, when my friend gave me some Erasa to try. It's a serum that acts like Botox (neurotoxin). I've tried it all short of La Mer and Augustine Badinier (sp is off). This truly reduces lines. They came out with an excellent cream but I ran out and needed color stay for my hair so went in. They were running a deal: $10 off $50 and $20 off $100. They have testers of most products and I was really impressed with the Murad night /heavy cream so bought one. I used to buy trinkets/earrings here. I see a lot of negative reviews, some re COVID, but since I just went in recently, after the dropping of mask mandate, I can't speak to that. Nina knows her stuff and I like to shop local when possible. I went back to Biolage after using Redken for awhile. Very pleased with it. read more

It was so weird and uncomfortable to noticed that I was being recorded on a phone by a bald guy as I was browsing around the store, I believe is one of the owners there or managers. Great little boutique with a nice selection. My mother has been frequenting this shop since the '90s - or maybe earlier. It's one of her favorite places in Santa Barbara. I remember coming in with her before the salon area had been added. I'd always been intrigued over the unique variety of merchandise along with how clean and orderly the place was. These both still hold true to this day. Skin Deep may appear to be a ladies' only place to shop, but the reality is that they do have a selection of mens' skincare items along with a good variety of unisex items. I love their Jack Black line and feel that this place has the best selection of their merchandise in town. They also offer an impressive selection of candles - I'm a fan of the Voluspa brand and you can find many of their scents here. I was in here not too long ago to make an exchange and felt that the customer service was unparalleled. The woman whom had assisted me was friendly and knowledgeable, and really made the process a smooth one. Skin Deep is open during Covid but is taking extra measures such as providing a credit card sanitizing machine which I felt was a smart idea. I'll be back! read more

I haven't had the pleasure of receiving a facial, yet. However, a couple days ago, I came in to get some under eye concealer, something mineral & natural. The young lady behind the counter addressed me immediately. She suggested I try Glo-Minerals. Pretty soon I was sitting in a chair, as she applied 2 colors under my eyes. Then another young lady came over to help, I believe a makeup artist. I love the time they spent with me. They listened to my questions & were eager to find the right product for me. Another young lady went to retrieve the products, these people are on point! I walked away with the perfect concealer, a translucent powder & a pink sponge for blending makeup. When I got home, I was pleased with the color. This is crucial as most times, the light at home is different than the light in the store. I'm a happy customer :) I'll be back. read more

First of all, I have struggled with acne for a long time & I make it worse when I am stressed and pick at my face... Very embarrassing. I wanted to get some new makeup and product to help my face improve. I felt so embarrassed/insecure about the condition of my skin. I honestly was hesitant to even go to the store. Upon entering my anxieties quickly disappeared. Amara helped me; I felt as comfortable with her as I am with close friends. She is a miracle worker; I couldn't believe how much better my face looked with the makeup system she styled me up with. I had a budget I wanted to stay within too & she kept me there without me feeling like I was having to leave something out. Sara also helped me choose a face wash that would help my ski; she was incredibly knowledgeable. I felt that both women genuinely cared about my satisfaction and wanted to make sure I got the results I was looking for. 2 weeks later, I have had amazing results that have improved my confidence and improved the condition of my skin tremendously. This is a small business that I highly recommend. The energy in the store is excellent and the ladies are all sweet, friendly, helpful, beautiful people. This store is cute and they carry some nice cosmetics and hair products. The service is not good, however. Nobody asks you if you need assistance, and when you ask... you might get quite a bit of attitude where a helpful attitude would be more appropriate. I don't like spending money anywhere I feel like a burden to the salesperson. I didn't get the sense that people who work here care about knowing what products they carry and what they do. I would rather avoid this store because I just don't want to deal with their borderline rude customer service. read more

I spent hours reading yelp reviews to help me choose a place to get a spa pedicure. Finally, I selected Skin Deep. The Salon was very friendly and able to schedule appts. for both my husband and me the same day I called. I am very pleased with the results. My feet had been abused from daily walks on the Ellwood Mesa and two vigorous Queensland Heeler pups. My husband's feet were even worse! Caroline gave both of us separate hour long pedicures for $50 each. First you are seated in a comfortable chair with your feet resting in a warm bath. You will be offered water and a magazine. Then your feet are scubbed and massaged up to your knees. This is followed by a thorough pedicure which left my abused feet looking pretty and sandal ready. I felt relaxed and comfortable the whole time. Since I am 6 months pregnant this was very important to me! My only critique would be that I would like a greater selection of polish colors. However the colors they had would appeal to most people and they were almost all OPI. I will definately be back and may look into the many other spa services that Skin Deep has to offer. Used a Groupon to get a haircut from Recia and I'm so happy with how my hair turned out! She fixed my layers and made them look more gradual instead of choppy like before. My hair smells amazing and the head massage she gives you while washing your hair is simply amazing. She's also so sweet and super friendly to talk to. Definitely coming back to try their facials; apparently they've been voted best place to get a facial in sb for the past 15 years! I have been going to Skin Deep for over 30 years. I moved away and came back. I was so excited to get a gift certificate so I could get a facial. The MicrodermAbrasion Facial was wonderful as was Andrea. My only complaint is that I based my facial treatment decision on an online deal which had no dates on it, and that I called to verify I could get, was told yes, and they wouldn't honor it when I was there. Yes, it was only $10 but on my budget, every penny counts. On principal, just poor customer service. So all the sorry's I got didn't get me my $10. read more

I like skin deep, they have fun products and carry the makeup line I use so I decided to try them out for a spa service. They have a pretty good axxess deal so I scheduled a facial. The facial was nice enough I guess but I definitely thought there was room for improvement. I barely had any extractions which was a big part of why I got a facial and my facialist left the room for about 10 minutes which I thought was odd. I had specifically asked for a few extra minutes of shoulder massage which she told me she'd see if she had time, then left the room, then came back and said there was no time. I would've loved if that break she took was used for my experience and what I was paying for especially since I requested it. Ah well, it was worth a try.
