I'll spare you the details about how much I *love* having hot wax put on my skin and then getting the hair ripped out, because I don't. But that's what this talk of bikini and Brazilian waxing is all about. We are simply a society that likes to pretend we don't have body hair. Now that we're done, uh, beating around the bush, let's move forward.
What makes this salon different to any other salon, is their business model, and I am a big big fan. They offer a membership service where the customer pays a flat fee by time, and whatever you can pack into that time is what you get. Think of it like a pitstop in the grand prix. You roll in, get hiked up onto a raised bed, and they go at you - a whole range of services like facials, microderm, massage, lash and brow tint and more, plus all that waxing we like to pretend we don't get. They do a la carte, too, if that's your thing. But the flat rate is what seals the deal.
This is ideal for those who have very limited time, and who value the long term benefits of aesthetic work more than the short term "spa" experience while you're there, not that the interior doesn't inspire relaxation and comfort. Being a return customer also ensures that the salon gets better acquainted with your skin and makes better recommendations on what services to give you. Finally, paying the flat rate means no hesitation to try new things in the aesthetic "buffet" so to speak.
Upfront, you commit to an amount of time, and a minimum of 6 months. Your card is charged at the beginning of each month, which is your incentive to get down to the salon and use that time. Then you don't have to worry about billing, you just walk in, and walk out. Again, this is a very good use of limited time.
I bought 60 minutes a month, at a level that provides me with microderm work, because I'm old and in denial. This level isn't necessary for everyone. You'll get your money's worth regardless if you get a facial, brazilian, brow shaping in your alloted time, or just ask to have your body reverted back to the hairless state you've pined away for ever since you hit puberty.
It will take time to figure out what services you like best, and what aesthetician you like best, each have their own strengths. But what's cool is that you can split your time up with them. Come in for 10 minutes after work for brow shaping with Jen, then another 20 minutes on the weekend for a facial with Colleen, and give away 30 minutes to the special manchild your life who needs his junk waxed or arm hair removed, lest you be the one who has to shave it off him. Or use it all for an hour of massage with Claudia. Any way you use the time, it's just the flat rate of *around* $80 per 60 minutes, less if you're a student (not me!). Non-committal types (me!) can watch for an Axxess deal or sample something a la carte to see if it's worth taking the bigger plunge. I did, and experienced hard working ladies who sincerely want to bring out the best of your looks.
Maybe this sounds complicated. It's not. It's simply a very effective and efficient use of time and money to utilize a range of salon services that you can adjust to your needs. I'm a very utilitarian person, and never undertook services like these until I realized it was worked very well with my schedule, my budget, and that it was time to change up the Frida look. read more
