I really like this location, a tad more than the one inside Valley Fair Mall. The employees here are generally very friendly, patience and helpful; they offered help without giving me pressure. Why not five stars? Because when I was asking one of the "consultant" to color-match me in store, she didn't seem to know how to color-match; she matched me with something that's 2 shades darker. I had confused look on my face but she just told "that should work for you" then walked away to help another customer; luckily another employee saw the situation and came to match me with the right shade. Overall, I still prefer this location and I have been coming here pretty much since they first open. And if you follow them on Instagram, they sometimes offer prizes to their customers during holidays. read more

This is one of the better Sephora locations. The sales associates are friendly and helpful, the store is clean, and items seem to be well stocked. It's not as big as other locations (especially compared to Valley Fair), but I also appreciate that it's less crowded and the short line at the cashier. I've been here twice over the past week. The first time was on a Saturday night and I was just browsing. This last trip was on a weekday and was on the hunt for a few new products. As soon as I walked in I was greeted with a friendly smile and during my 30+ minutes in the store was asked if I needed help by multiple associates (but not in an overbearing way). I also saw them helping multiple customers such as showing someone where a brand was located in the store, providing product suggestions, etc. read more

This is my favorite Sephora location in the Bay Area. This store is located on the Santana Row side. Note: there is also a Sephora on the Valley Fair side. I prefer this one for several reasons: friendly staff, conveniant spot in the middle of the Row, and nice selection of products. I've been stopping by since they opened post shelter in place. I came here on Sunday and had a very smooth and seamless shopping experience. They open at noon now on Sundays, and I did wait in line for about 10 minutes due to capacity limits. When you go in, a lady will brief you before you enter the store. She'll spray hand sanitizer on your hand. Unforutnately, sampling is no longer allowed due to COVID. All good. I picked up the items I wanted, and went to check out. Paying with card is the fastest way to go. When I was paying at the register, the beauty clerk threw in a free face mask & samples for me. Score! That made me really happy and Ieft Sephora with a smile on my face. 5 stars! read more

I buy lots of things from Sephora and seldom return items. I went to return a lip stain this morning and it was over 60 days and they just simply refused it even though it was not used. They don't make exceptions even though you purchase lots and seldom return. They just told me to give it away or throw it out. I love coming to Sephora, and I normally spend a lot of money a year coming to the store. I do appreciate the variety, their products, and most of the time they have things in stock. But later on I found another sales person that was very rude and try to smart ass me when I was asking for a question it is completely disrespectful and no OK. Came in last week for a return and left with several products I hadn't planned to buy (typical). Had to wait in a pretty long line to get inside as they are enforcing social distancing - when I hopped in line, I was in front of the Sugarfina entrance. They give you a little orientation when it's your turn to go inside - basically, they're social distancing, masks required, no testers (open makeup is for display only - no testing perfumes either). Staff was more friendly and attentive than I had ever experienced, and as someone who's worked in retail that could be because less people were allowed in store. It made for a much more immersive, calm, and satisfying shopping experience. Would probably come back if I needed to return anything else! Still mainly online ordering, though, for those beauty offers, samples, and free shipping. And since, you know, Covid-19 is still a thing. Great experience, though, just not for my wallet! read more

This store is a hit or miss. I came to pick up my online order and had selected in-store pickup at the checkout. As I'm waiting in line I lookup my order in the app and apparently 3 of my items were out of stock. I was really disappointed so I just waited to see what the cashier was gonna say about my options. Once I got to the cashier she asked for my name and she said she would go in the back and grab my order. She had black curly hair and fair skin. She came back and pushed the bag towards me and said "I'm gonna scan it and then you'll be all good to go". She didn't even bother to tell me that there was an issue with my order...so I told her "well there's three items that were out of stock"..."Yeah well you were never charged so we just cancelled it" (Mind you, there have been plenty of times that Sephora has ordered a product for me that was out of stock and sent it to my house for no shipping cost and she didn't even bring that option up). She had such an attitude and her face said it all...she might as well told me "Not my problem, get out of my face so I can deal with the next person in line" I asked her if she could please just check for one of the items (it was the Charlotte Tilbury magic eye rescue) and she just picked up her phone and said "no we don't have it" AS IF SHE DOESN'T HAVE A HEADSET WIRE THING THAT COMMUNICATES WITH ALL THE EMPLOYEES...She literally could've asked the employees on the floor if it was there and she was just trying to get rid of me. I decide not to give this lady any of my attitude so I grab my bag and start heading out the door. With an ounce of hope left inside me, I go ask the male employee standing next to the Charlotte Tilbury section if they have the magic eye rescue cream and sure enough he gets on the headset and asks everyone on the floor and they find it IN STOCK in less than a minute. I explain what happened at the cash register and he was understanding and checked me out with his handheld device. His customer service really made my day. The employees that wander the floor are always so nice. But the cashiers??? They get so irritated and act so surprised when the line is long and they actually have to help customers. Stopped by Sephora after having dinner with my Hubby and had a pretty good experience during my visit. I was greeted the moment I walked into the store and felt welcomed. Getting greeted doesn't usually happen all the time since the employees are usually busy helping their customers. I needed to return an item I purchased online as it didn't work out as anticipated. I went straight to the Tarte section since I had 2 blushes I wanted to exchange for another shade. Of of the blushes I purchased was done online and one was a gift. I knew the transaction with the one I personally purchased would be smooth sailing since I had the proof of purchase. The other item was a gift, so I had no proof of purchase and I knew it was going to be a little difficult to get it exchanged. Coming to Sephora and getting great customer service is always a plus and tonight, Amanda and Kim went above and beyond to help me. Even though I didn't have the proof of purchase for my second item, they were able to find other ways to help me get my item exchanged. I walked out of Sephora a happy customer because I was able to exchange both of my items for another shade the suited me better. The staff were so kind, lovely and polite, they asked what I would like and took their time making sure I was happy especially during the custom makeover 45 minute session.The makeup came out great and she delivered what look I was looking for so well ( Sorry I forgot her name ) Everyone there was so friendly and professional. I had to return few products which were over $100 ( Unused ) They were just happy assisting me on that. A girl who helped me didn't even check the product and said "Ok,I believe you" and smiled. Sephora's come a dime a dozen; however, I am partial especially to this store due to its convenient location, stellar customer service and product availability. It seems every time I come in for something in particular all seems to be well stocked and ready for me to check out. All that's missing is the big, bright red, sparkly bow they need to tie around my purchase before we bid each other our farewells .smile. Like any usual Sephora, makeup brands and all other miscellaneous beauty items are organized accordingly and super easy to find. THE GOOD: The store is beautiful and all of the tissue boxes were full. I found Nicole and it was her first day at this location, THANK GOODNESS! I had questions, I needed a ton of products and my skin matched for a foundation. She was super pleasant, explained all of her steps while applying products & gave me some awesome techniques for covering my problems areas. I bought all of the things she recommended because after she finished my face I loved it. My pores were hidden, the dark spots around my eyes were gone and the bronzer she applied was perfect. $367 later I'm one happy girl! THE BAD: I walked in and scanned the room for someone to help me. I saw 4, then 5, then 6 girls but NONE of them had makeup on. It looked like that just washed their faces!!! I kept looking for someone w makeup on to help me...... literally everyone is bare faced here. This is so strange to me, unless these girls are only placed in the skin care section then I don't get it. I was so thrilled after I found Nicole because she had a flawless face of makeup. I was assisted by Nick, fragrance advisor, who stepped out of his department to help me find the Milk primer (I cannot live without) among other things. I tend to go to the Valley Fair location more often because they have a larger inventory and are a bit more staffed (which is why I knocked off one star); however, thanks to Nick and The Row crew I think I will patron this store more often! I say this because Nick was so helpful and humble which was a breath of fresh air. When he did not know something he made sure to get me in the right hands without making me feel like a burden. Nick also has flawless makeup and skin so I took his recommendations with open arms! This sephora is located conveniently in the heart of Santana Row. Besides it's location, and variety of cosmetic lines they offer, I do NOT like this sephora. I usually go to any Sephora in SF and drop by here if I am in this location. But I am NOT coming back to this one. The employees are constantly nagging you asking if you need help..I get it, but it gets annoying when the same person asks u again and again. Like PLEASE let me SHOP. I do not have this experience with the other Sephora's. Also they flip OUT, if you open the drawers trying to find your product because you didn't see it in display. I actually had this worker there approach me, and was so rude about me opening the drawer. I worked for LANCOME for three years and never was rude to a customer or flip out if they opened a drawer. The Sephora Store at Santana Row in San Jose are rude and liars. I'd give them a ZERO and definitely an "F" as they have atrocious customer service, were unkind, and LIED TO ME. I went there last week to return a very expensive unopened gift I had just been given and did not want. I had the gift receipt. My friend told me that she had paid in cash, in case I didn't want the item and wanted a refund. The Santana Row store staff told me I could NOT get a refund with a gift receipt, ONLY store credit, even though the original purchase was paid with cash, they told me that I required the original receipt to get a cash refund. WTF? That makes no sense. Here's what the website says: "Sephora In-store Purchases Sephora in-store purchases may be returned within 60 days of the date of purchase with a receipt or gift receipt at a store location in exchange for a refund in the same form of payment as your purchase was made, we do not accept mail returns for merchandise originally purchased at a retail location." This LIE and HORRENDEOUS customer service caused me to have to run an additional errand to a different store, costing me time and hassle. Please address your Santana Row staff. Multiple staff members told me the same thing, not just one cashier, someone else stood behind her and back her up. Thankfully your Oakridge mall folks didn't LIE to me. read more

For some reason, this is my favorite Sephora. I tend to go here during the work week when I have a meeting or luncheon at one of the restaurants at Santana Row. I usually pop in before or after my meeting and it's never really crowded. There's always someone there to help. People seem knowledgeable of the products. I'm not sure how it is during the weekend, because I tend to only visit this location mid week. I've never had a bad experience here. read more

This place is my happy place. I have another location near me but there's something about this one that makes it my home base. The location has a lot of natural light, the employees are warm (not stuck up or checked out), try to get to know you, this location offers more of my favorite luxury brands, and I love the store manager Mae. She is sweet, generous, funny, and down to earth. There is such a thing as too much and I find this location's products to be just right -- not too little and not too much. I love getting perk facials here and their education workshops are really fun. Of course this place can be a madhouse but I still would never trade my neighborhood Sephora for another one. read more

I came here to pick up a few items and I was greeted right away by the friendly associates. They were ready to help without being overbearing. I ended up having an issue and called the store a few days later- the associate who answered was nice and told me she would have the manager give me a call next week. Sure enough, the manager called me on the stated day and helped me resolve the issue. I am pleasantly surprised that they followed through and stayed true to their word because these days it is a rarity! I will happily cross the street from Valley Fair to shop at this Sephora location. The store is clean, stocked, and the employees are super friendly unlike the Valley Fair location! I came in yesterday to purchase a foundation. I walked up to someone who directed me to a super sweet gentleman. He took his time to match the foundation to my face and gave me some facts about the product; being oil-free and what not. This is something I have never experienced at the Valley Fair location... even when they are slow, the employees try to avoid helping you. The cashiers were super sweet too. I was offered samples which they actually had in stock. And... As I was leaving the store, everyone I had interacted with told me to have a nice day. So although this Santana Row Sephora is smaller than the across-the-street VF location, I would be more likely to drop in here. Anyway, needed mascara - stat. She recommended the Bobbi Brown mascara and holy moly, a world of eyelash difference. I loved the look, but thought it felt a bit heavy. I'm liking this new store. Apparently, the one in Valley Fair is still the flagship, but this one felt more comfortable to maneuver. I scheduled a make-over here on a Saturday and was able to get one fairly easy. When I arrived, the location was not bombarded. They had their make up seats by the window (not in the middle of the make up like at VF) which I loved because I felt like I didn' t have to brush shoulders and move around shoppers. The make up artist was very nice and courteous. She mentioned how she enjoyed this location more as well because it was less hectic and crazy at the VF location. Excellent selection of items, but one of the employees is less than stellar. Picked up two Kérastase hair care items I'd been looking for. Said employee comes over to me and asks me not to "smell the tester." One, I was not holding the tester. Two, my mask was not down and I wasn't smelling anything. I was literally checking the product to see that it had not already been opened. I then proceeded to the checkout with those exact items- no smelling or removing of my face mask occurred. Keep in mind I already knew what I wanted. I went in for a foundation and concealer. They didn't have the item I needed but were able to help me find an alternative. Not sure how I can rate a place I do not go to. My wife loves it though, and so does any other woman in this planet! At Santana Row, there is a small section at the very right end of the store for the guys' cologne, so when we go there, I guickly go there and spray myself with the Bulgari cologne. It is a round shaped, light bluish colored container and it is my cologne of choice at the moment! Afterwards, I tend to go either outside or at a corner and play with my iPhone. The wife on the other hand, she loves the place like I love REI or BassPro or Gamestop or La Vics haha! Sephora caters to all women from teens to adults, and they have knowledgeable staff that know makeups, and for that I give them major props! read more

A review for my custom makeover experience: It was horrible on all levels. Sure I guess I couldve complained about it during the time when the makeup artist was working on my face but 1. I had to be out within an hour and didnt want her to have to keep redoing areas that she first took a long time to complete and 2. Didnt really want to insult her work... But here I am because if you need to get your makeup done for a special occassion, I would recommend you either not come here or have a specific person in mind that you know does makeup well so youre not disappointed. At each step of the process, I looked at my face and thought "well maybe I can fix it a little bit later, no big deal". At one point i told her my eyeliner was extremely uneven...which she tried to fix to the best of her ability, but didnt really turn out nice. I let it go. Once it all came down to it, I was completely horrified! I mean, I couldve done it better myself. I left, went home and wiped off all my makeup. Because at that point I wouldve rather gone to my event bare face than looking like that. Im sorry, but ALL their beauty specialist should be trained properly to do make up on other people. Simply having a love for makeup wont do it! On the other hand, she and the rest of the staff were really friendly. I just wouldnt personally ever want to do a custom makeover here again. read more

While walking the Row with my cousin I stopped by to check this new location out. I found the NARS concealer my cousin recommended and went to check out. I waited for a while to be rung out since although there where 2 cashiers only one was ringing up a difficult customer. 10 minutes earlier, while checking out which color worked best as a concealer multiple employees walked by with no acknowledgement. This has happened at multiple locations I have been too. I do not know much about makeup but would love to feel comfortable enough to ask questions or for help. I would buy so much more if the employees were easier to stop as they walk by or just friendlier in general. read more
