I walked by and did a double take and decided to walk in. Nice greeter at the door. I didn't have anyone ask if I needed help for about 40 minutes while I was there, which in turn I finally asked for help. This place is so overwhelming for someone like me who doesn't exactly wear too much makeup. I just know about the basics. I do give five stars to the people who ended up helping me. They were awesome. I did not catch their names. I told them what I want and they complied with several items. I absolutely love my little collection! I needed these items for travel (leaving in 9 days) and wanted small compact items and guess what???? I couldn't wait I already used them and love the colors and how the makeup stays put all day. I really like this place. Although, I must say, they don't always have what I want in stock. Is it the location? All the people buying everything up all the time? I don't know. But I went in there yesterday looking for Murad's Pomegranate body scrub, and they didn't have any in stock. They had a gift pack that contained a small tub of it, but I want the BIG tub of it. Also, they were out of Time On My Hands, a Philosoply hand cream that's amazing, and which I use all the time. By the way, try it if you can find it. It's wonderful... as is their Soul Owner, which is for your feet. It makes them super soft! I love that stuff for foot massages. The people in here are nice and helpful, and there are all kinds of Try Me products out, which is nice. I'm not one to use them, but I like to open things up, smell them, look at them up close, feel their consistency, etc, so this is a selling point. And I hate having to ask a bored looking sales person behind a counter if I can try something out. Sephora takes the pain of that away! Avoid this location at all costs. I went in last week with my cousin and the employees there kept following us around asking us if we needed help multiple times. It was just too much with them following us around everywhere and the vibe they gave off was that they thought that I was going to steal or something because of the way I was dressed and looked ( I was wearing an oversized sweatshirt and leggings and I'm a relatively petite woman). The employees here need to learn better customer service. We felt so uncomfortable here and just left to go elsewhere to shop. read more

Is there any reason to give ANY Sephora less than 5 stars? Well maybe 2 possible reasons: 1) The salesperson sold you something that gave you hives 2) A salesperson was a total bitch. Neither has ever happened to me here nor have I heard it happen to any of my friends. When I walk in Sephora my mind goes "Hallelujah!!" PRODUCTS EVERYWHERE Those that know me know I am a product whore and product snob - my specialties you ask? Skincare and haircare. Why and How you ask? Well, I worked at Pure Beauty for a long time (when it was awesome before both times it filed for bankruptcy) and was trained on TONS of lines and brand as well as by hair and skin experts - classes constantly. I would possibly subtract .5 stars for the fact that sometimes I know more and can answer my own question by the time they find someone who knows the answer to it. OR, I would subtract .5 for the fact that they do not carry Dermalogica - but I know they can't because Dermalogica only allows its line to be carried in places where the estheticians on site use it. BUT they have sooooooooo many other good skin lines - heaven. I'm in heaven. SIDE NOTE: I have this weird obsessed with trying every mascara known to man. Unlike most women, I'm not a makeupaholic. I do like it, don't get me wrong, but I usually see myself wearing the same stuff and the same colors over and over again, and never bothering to try something new. Just go back to the same safe and known product and brand. Today was going to be basically the same.....if it were not for Xander Morris, my new hero! After a fabulous brunch with my two girlfriends who were visiting from LA, I was going home to get school work done while they were going shopping, which was absolutely out of my sight - and budget. However, it was one of those beautiful sunny days in SF, two of my best friends here...why not? And there I went. My friend wanted to get lipsticks at Sephora. I rarely go to that store. I desperately needed concealer, but thought I would just stop by Mac up on Chestnut and get the one I have been using for years. After all, a concealer is a concealer, right? When we get to Sephora, we are helped by one of their associates who was semi-friendly and who didn't seem to know what she was talking about. My friend started to get irritated and said she was going to buy it in a LA store where they are more friendly and helpful......Until Xander Morris came to the rescue! Xander Morris is one of the best sales associates I have seen in a beauty product store. He was absolutely helpful, knowledgeable, professional, friendly and courteous. He took his time to walk around the store and explain the products, test them on me, was not pushy, nor recommended the most expensive items in the store. It totally changed my experience and all of a sudden I saw myself buying not only a concealer, but two more items, getting a 'Beauty Insider' card and absolutely happy - and feeling like I learned a lot - with my shopping experience!!! Ok , this is now the only Sephora I want to go to. ( and I hate going to the marina )Every time I come in here everyone is extremely helpful and knowledgeable . There is this wonderful woman whose name I don't know but she is always there. She wears glasses and I think she might be a skin expert or consultant. Anyway, she is always so understanding about the problems with my skin and gives me good recommendations to tackle my skin care concerns . She also gives me samples of things to try instead of having to purchase them and then returning if they don't work. She is definitely not a product pusher. I went to the Sephora in Stonestown and asked the man who was working there to show me makeup that was non comedogenic . He had the nerve to look at me and say all of our products are non comedogenic. I said , really ALL of your products? I began to name a product that was right in front of us that would cause break outs and he then replied by asking if I could name anything else. Well didn't you just say everything in Sephora was non comedogenic???? I was through !!!! I don't go to the marina Too often but I will for this Sephora. I think this is the best Sephora I've ever been to, in the US. The staff demonstrated the perfect amount of assistance and helpfulness, without bothering or smothering me. I was asked just a few times if I was doing OK and finding what I needed, but no more times than were necessary. The downtown store is a little too overwhelming and claustrophobic for me. This store is more comfortable, less crowded, and all around better. Very well stocked shelves; I found everything I needed quickly, and a lot of stuff was on sale too, partly to clear out holiday merchandise and it appeared that they were going to discontinue carrying one line, so many items from that brand were on sale. Upon checkout, the woman at the counter gave me a BUTTLOAD of free samples. Seriously, more than you'd get if you order from Sephora.com. She said that the store was trying to get rid of some 2008 freebies, so she loaded me up. I also told her I never redeemed my birthday gift from 2008, so she gave me the complementary vanilla body wash, even though she said I missed the five month period in which to redeem it, but she gave it to me anyways. She also said that the gift of the day for 100 Sephora beauty bank points (the Sephora frequent shopper card) was too dark for my skin tone, so she gave me another freebie. Then she threw in the bag two more samples from the Anthony skin care line for my male shopping companion because he was being such a good sport. I walked out with like 10 items for only $48. Great selection, but beware of the thieves. At the Powell store II saw a man in a dark suit, and a blond woman in a white suit hanging around the line at the register. Then I watched as another customer accused the man of stealing her wallet, while the blond absconded with the wallet and they both made a break for the door with the victim pursuing them. The cashier told me that there was security in the store, but that the guard on duty was older, and didn't really care. I think the victim left her wallet on a counter somewhere for a moment, and these two were waiting around for just such an occasion. Hold on to your things! read more

Yes, the products here are great. They have such a large variety of perfumes, makeup and anything a girl may need. Also, they are helpful when you are searching around aimlessly looking for something specific. That said, its sad to say but, the main thing I remember about my trip was the sales clerk. Sephora has most lines that you would want to find, although if you have become a complete snob, and demand only the most eco-friendly, natural, socially conscious products made in small quantities in odd countries... then you will be out of luck here. Anyway, I found what I set out to find: the special eyeliner that pumps the liquid THROUGH the brush [as opposed to having to DIP it into the main tube], the fantastic GOSmile whitening series, and some miscellaneous lip balms that most girls have in too many flavors and colors... what killed me was that the sales guys [!!!!] convinced me that I should try the Evian mist. Now... let me digress for a moment. This is the MOST BRILLIANT marketing campaign known to man! Put pure Evian water into a pressurized mist container, and charge even MORE for basic H2O!!! The idea is that it will REFRESH you in hot and dry environments... which is DOES. I will admit right now that I LOVE the stuff! It's great on airplanes, it's great on the beach, it's great in a big dusty megapolis... but it's just WATER! So, I fell for the most ridiculous scam... and I am only slightly embarrassed. I like the lack of a hard sell at this Sephora, although the staff aren't necessarily the best when it comes to recommendations (when they don't have one you can see the wheels turning as they try to make up a personal favorite). But really, what's not to love about a one stop shop for beauty products that's not located in a mall? Personal favorites include Philosophy's Hope in a Jar, pretty much anything by Nars, Benefit's Some Kind A Gorgeous, and this jasmine-scented hair oil whose name currently eludes me. This place is fantastic! Sephora is pretty great generally, but this location in particular is really awesome. The employees are friendly, super helpful and very knowledgeable about their products. I recently popped in to peruse and find some potential wedding makeup and was helped by a makeup artist named Ashley. I explained what I was looking for and mentioned wanting to try these products before investing in them (let's be real -- some of these products are NOT cheap and not everything works for everyone). She was happy to explain what she thought would work for me, made samples of these products AND did my full face with a series of products she thought I would like. No charge, no pressure to buy and nothing that went far beyond what I requested. Gotta love that level of service. I know where I'll be going to stock up on my wedding makeup! I used to frequent this Sephora regularly, as it's close to my work and not as crazy as the one downtown. Not anymore! I had THE WORST experience here this afternoon. I went in for three things: mascara, travel sizes of shampoo/conditioner, and an eyeliner. Strike One: They didn't have the travel sizes for my Living Proof shampoo/conditioner that they sell online. Okay. I can live with that. Thankfully, the associate had a sample set and gave me one - this was my best interaction. Strike Two: They got rid of all of the makeup applicator/remover stations. 1) now I have to go back to work with eyeliner swatches on my hands and 2) this is extremely UNSANITARY! How can we sample things without getting sick or pink eye if there are no applicators! Strike Three: They got rid of the Stila section. Okay, again I can live with this, EXCEPT the associate helping me this time was extraordinarily hopeless. I asked her where the Stila section went, she had to ask another associate who said they only carry the black liquid liner now and then the older, blonde associate helping me said NOTHING. Not a word! If you're trying to make a sale, ask me what I'm looking for and offer me an alternative! Another entertaining Sephora location with a very helpful and friendly staff. Similar set-up to that of Sephora Union Square with better brighter lighting and slightly smaller space. I will admit that I was tricked into coming to this Sephora location. I asked my girlfriend to pick a doggy bakery to get treats. I should have expected that she would pick the one across the street from Sephora. Everyone warmly welcomed all three of us - me, girlfriend, and my puppy. The staff is not stretched thin and there are many associate ready to help. Best part was the dog-watching. Oh, how I LOVE living in Cow Hollow. With all the large store scale to this Sephora that I could ever possibly desire, and it's just within walking distance of my apartment. I can stop off at Starbucks, grab a cappuccino, and shop for quality pharmadermal level of skin care prods at this location. Staff is super helpful and friendly. Because I'm shopping here as a local res, I'm usually here during non-peak shopping times, so the lines have never been bad for me. This is Union Street, not Union Square, so yes, parking is an Olympic sport. Street parking only or use one of the lots around the corner paying a premium. read more

This is my go-to place. I hate going downtown to Macy's. I will usually shop for stuff Sephora.com, but somethings I need something asap. Most of the time, they will greet me at the door and ask if I need help and have been quite helpful. There have been a couple of times when I asked for a particular product, Onece was after I was looking in Bare Minerals and the associate acted like she didn't have a clue about the product. I did finally find the product and then I showed it to her saying this was what I was looking for. She nodded and smiled but then kept right on doing something else. She wasn't very helpful. She didn't ask anyone else if they had the product either. I like their minis because they are great in my purse. I can spend more than what I went in for easily. Ok, I have ovaries so obviously I love Sephora. I literally cannot walk past without popping in for a quick spritz of something that smells delish or a touch of lipgloss. However, the reason I choose this particular Sephora to yelp is because of my new best friend, salesman David. Clearly there's a story here: Its Saturday afternoon of Fleet Week, and I'm walking to Monaghans coming from a party on a rooftop of which I miraculously didn't fall off. Thats how shitcanned I am. As previously mentioned, it is an impossibility for me to simply pass by a Sephora, so I walk (stumble) in and am greeted by this adorable puff David. I let David know that I am in desperate need of a touch-up, but am incapable of performing said feat in current mentally and physically disabled condition (am confident this was conveyed to David in far less eloquent terms). David is a total sweetheart, he embraces me for the slop tart I am and makes me look fantastic, even though I'm sure once people started talking to me they realized that despite looking fresh faced and fabulous (copyright, Cover Girl) I am, in fact, a lush. I was reminded today that there is another Sephora store in SF besides the one downtown! I was so thankful as I try to avoid the Union Square area on weekends during the holidays. I headed down to Union Street...a street I rarely go to as I generally don't like going to The Marina - however, this is all changed now! There are so many stores down in this area, I love it! It's also much closer and convenient to drive to than downtown...but I digress, this review is about Sephora. Walked in and was greeted by a friendly saleswoman who immediately told us of their specials. Basically if you spent over $50, you got a free gift and over $100, a $20 gift card. SCORE! I knew I was spending quite a bit today so I would get both! Walked around and everyone was so helpful. A few of the salesgirls were raving about this product I went in to buy, they even gave me free samples and showed me how to use it. Definitely a great sales crew as they're helpful and friendly without being overbearing. The store is also very organized and everything is easy to find! I literally could spend hours in this store, but then I wouldn't be able to pay rent so it's probably smart that I only go here a few times a year. Don't judge me. But I do secretly love Sephora. I love that I can go in and try stuff - and that the sales people actually encourage that type of behavior. They love the products as much as I do and I rarely come out of Sephora without some sort of tip about skin care or makeup. Last week, I found the sales girls here really helpful and nice. They showed me around the store to help me find the products I really needed, and didn't just try to talk me into anything. I left with a couple of products, and I had them even do my makeup since I had left right after the gym to meet up with a friend. I learned a few tips while I was there, plus my makeup looked great at the end (not to mention lasted longer than usual). It's nice to go someplace where they appreciate my brand of crazy. Although this Sephora is further away from where I live, I feel that I have a better chance of finding sold out products here! Uh oh, I might be giving away my secret! Oh well, find a treasure, share a treasure right? Well any who, most products that are sold out at the Powell and Stonestown store is typically here. Remember those weekly sale items they had a year ago? Those $10 weekly deals on full size makeup such as Nars concealers and whatnot? They had plenty here! Just last week I came here and they had the OPI Urban Ballerina Collection whereas the nailpolishes were sold out at the other locations. And they also carry Stila here! Thumbs up for that! I'm a Sephora junkie. Not all stores are amazing, this one might be on the small side but it always has what I'm looking for. I'm pretty fair skinned and sometimes have had problems finding my mineral foundation in my shade, but not here! The staff has always been friendly to me, offering to help, but when I decline, backing off and letting me do my shopping in peace. I love how the testers are clean! If its not clean I don't try it. And if I hadn't tried some products I never would have bought them and never would have had my life changed! Hello. On the off chance having a few minutes to spare, I stopped into the Novato Sephora. I was greeted immediately and as I hovered over some hair products on display in front, another woman continued to greet and ask me what I came in for. I inquired about Olaplex products; she was highly passionate and knowledgeable. I bought two products (cream styler and oil) and used both the following morning. I am already fond of the bonding shampoo and conditioner and mask, but when I used the suggested amounts, my hair felt it's best since adding highlights months ago. It took me about 7 years to finally give in and spend money on their brushes. Much better than MAC's and wow, they do wonders! I love Sephora! It's a big beauty playground! I get my night cream and eye cream here. It's one of the few places that sell Caudalie. I'm still testing out eye cream trying to find the perfect one that will rid me of those dark circles from not getting enough sleep. (Too bad the circles are due to my busy schedule rather than late nights out.) The reps do a good job of advising you of the products and are helpful. Sometimes a little too helpful. I usually go to this one because they usually have the items I want when they're sold out at the Powell Street & the Stonestown location. The workers here are friendly and attentive to their customers unlike the other ones I have been to who only help you when you ask them to, & are all caught up into their own chitchats. Today, I called into this location since the location in Emeryville totally shut me off by telling me they don't do holds & before I even asked them to put it on hold for me after checking if the item was in stock, they offered me that option so I wouldn't need to rush there asap & told me I can come in within 24 hours & call back if I can't make it within 24 hours. My only complaint is that often times when I find a product I'm in LOVE with, they don't have any in stock. Sephora carries an obscene amount of crap to put all over your face and body (not that I'm complaining, I love to primp). It's very convenient and they give you silly little gifts (read: samples) for every $100 you spend (which is, sadly, really easy to do). Guys, there's even a section for you! This is my favorite Sephora in the city. It's large, always well stocked and there are always plenty of helpful associates on the floor. Every time I come in, I'm greeted immediately and usually get some great product suggestions to meet my needs - AKA Josie Maran Argon Body Lotion - try it you will not be disappointed! Also, they always do a lot of demonstrations in the center of the store. Almost every time I've come in after work they are teaching how to do a cat eye, or build your foundation, etc. the store is always clean, the checkout line is fast and it's easy to get to using the Powell Street Muni. read more
