Sephora's free stuff for Virgo's (September babies)
Aimee B.

Join Sephora's Beauty Insider Rewards and get free stuff on your birthday (try & buy at least one item a year to keep your rewards card active). The free stuff you get for your birthday are not simply a sachet of a product or a dab of it (e.g. those you find inserted in magazines). They give you mini versions of products enough to make a proper taste of what it has to offer. Besides, who does not like free stuff?!

Just my luck missing items are what I want to sample
Cla S.

Sephora is great. This sephora is not. No hands on deck and lots of items missing. See pic of grimy merch presentation. Normally i see more sephora coats than regular folks at their stores (Chicago, Toronto, DC) but waited so long that I had to ask a cashier to grab a staff member to help me. Even then I had to wait another 20 minutes cause everyone was 'tied up'. So much for quick stops. They must have been understaffed. I finally got someone's attention and asked to try two Kat Von D lipstains. The station was super dirty and there was no chair for me to sit. She gave me the colour and didn't give any suggestion or assistance. I got one of them at a whopping $25. Color is so me but I won't be going back to this retail location. See my tip pic and tell me I'm wrong.

I gave 4 stars because I preferred the previous location in the Rideau Centre.

I've now been to Ivonne Sanchez Beauty twice, and seen Bella both times- the first time for a…read morechrome manicure, the second time for a shellac mani/pedi. I was hesitant to try somewhere new after having gone to the same place for years, but came initially as part of a girl date with one of my friends. The salon is very bright and clean. I love pink, so they earn brownie points with me for the rose gold, white, and pink decor. Their staff is really personable and friendly. It's really my favourite part of the experience! Bella was amazing and really listened and "gets" what I'm asking for. I'm picky and indecisive, so that really says a lot and is important to me when it comes to nails or any beautification. I also really love that they have so many colour options and offer cool ideas that I wouldn't necessarily think of on my own. After my initial visit, I learned chrome doesn't work well for me- I think my nails are maybe too oily or my cuticles just didn't like it. Bella went above and beyond to find a solution, and really cared about me being happy with her work. I can't even say how valuable that is in this kind of industry- as a consumer it's certainly rare to find people who take so much pride in their work. It's a nice central location, in Sparks street. For convenience I just parked at the World Exchange Plaza (free on weekends!) but there is also street parking available if you know where to look. I would totally recommend this spot to a friend, I'm considering coming back to try the lash extensions or microblading, I love that it's all in one spot!

Mergi Shop - So many flavours of Turtle Chips

So I knew that I would love Mergi Shop. It's been open for a while, but I only recently made my way down there. It's in a rougher part of town, hence the bars on the windows. Public drug use, vandalism and acts of violence are common in this area, especially in the last few years. The store inside is brightly lit, clean and well-organized. Staff are friendly, greeting you as you enter, but leave you to browse on your own. If you need assistance though, they will help. I came to buy a specific Japanese mascara base (the Japanese make the best mascaras, IMO). Unfortunately, they didn't have it, but they had other items, including regular mascara of the same brand (Kiss Me Heroine Make). I got a mascara ($18.79) and decided to try their liquid eyeliner ($16.49) too, since the store was having a 10% off sale and I wanted to make my trip down there worthwhile, lol. They had lots of chips and other snacks from Asia and also imported drinks. They had mostly items from Japan and Korea that are harder to find. Not stuff from China that you can easily get at Kowloon Supermarket, Green Fresh or T&T. Their prices are very fair considering they are imported goods and rarer to find in Ottawa. I really enjoyed poking around looking at stuff in this store. Street parking only. (88)

A decent selection of frozen food for such a small store. They have a lots of drinks from coffee, tea, juices and soft drinks. Surprisingly they have some cosmetics as well. Some items seem to have really high prices while others seem like they're reasonably priced or cheaper than expected I'd give this place a 3.5 if I could but rounding up Go check it out for yourself!
