The Longer Version: This small grocery store reminds me of the small grocery stores my mom used to take me to on weekends in Toronto's Chinatown when I was a kid. The store is not all that aesthetically pleasing, and some would consider it dingy looking, but it is functional. I like coming here for dried noodles. They also have cakes and cookies from Hung Loi bakery in Toronto. Prices are reasonable and selection is decent. I like small independent grocery stores, but I fear they are a dying breed. So while these days you can get lots of Asian items at mainstream supermarkets like Loblaws, Metro and Sobeys, I do prefer to support the little guys when I can. #172 (2025)

Here, while the store is small, the selection is good and covers the most popular items and it is fresh. They also sell fruits, vegetables, frozen food, noodles, dried food and some fresh noodles and won ton wrappers. Definitely coming back for my essentials.

So there's this coconut candy from Vietnam that my mom loves and it's only available around Lunar New Year. So this past Lunar New Year, I took her to Chinatown to find it. We went to three stores and they were all sold out. Hung Phat was the fourth store we went to and lo and behold, they had it. And all their Lunar New Year snacks were less expensive than at the other stores. My mom was happy, lol. The store is small and cramped, but they have a lot of products. The store itself doesn't look the cleanest, but I don't mind buying sealed packaged items from such stores. Of the packaged items I looked at, none were expired, so I was glad to see that. Staff were nice. The store is on Rochester, just slightly off the Somerset main drag. Street parking only. (26)

Parking was very convenient and the store staff was friendly, although English was not their fluent language. Hot food by weight was also available and we had various chicken preps, veggie rice, broccoli and spring rolls. There are a few tables where we could eat but brought it home. I like Green Fresh and if you're looking for affordable Asian products, check them out.

The Long Version: My parents first introduced me to Green Fresh when they only had one location (the OG that was on Selkirk, that has since closed down). It was dingy and run down, but had lots of Asian ingredients that they were looking for. And it was the closest Asian grocery store to where they lived. They were thrilled when it moved to McArthur and had a total facelift, it was new, bright and clean. Green Fresh then opened a second location in Nepean on Merivale, closer to my neck of the woods. Then in January 2025, they opened this third location in Kanata/Stittsville. It's in the Grant Crossing, where the Bed, Bath and Beyond used to be (next to the Value Village). This newest location is very similar to the Nepean location. It even has the same bubble tea vendor inside (Y-Not Go For Tea). Which is a bit funny because the first Y-Not Go For Tea location is inside the Hunt Club T&T and T&T and Green Fresh are competitors! The Vanier Green Fresh has a different bubble tea vendor though: World Tea House. I visited this Kanata/Stittsville location shortly after opening, so maybe they don't have all their stuff together yet because although they have a section labelled "Bakery" they didn't have any baked goods :( However, they do have a prepared food section. It's self-serve and you pay by the weight ($2.29 per 100g). They also have a counter where they make Jianbing, Chinese crepes. There was a huge line up for these when I went, so they are definitely popular. They have lots of items, including snacks (my favourite aisles), lol. Most of the products are from China, but they have items from other countries too. They had Kracie DIY gummy kits imported from Japan. And they were only $4.99. The west end is now flush with Asian grocery stores (T&T, Kowloon, now Green Fresh, and soon Sunny Food Mart) compared to the east end (to my parents' chagrin). I'd say the prices here are the lowest generally speaking. However, the prepared foods did not look as appetizing to me as at the other Asian grocery stores. Free parking in the plaza parking lot. When I complained, the female Senior employee told me to go see a tax man. I do not have a tax man and I was insulted. Then she told me to ask CRA for a rebate form (I explained that CRA for responsible for federal tax and this was a provincial tax and she did not understand). My father fought in the #Korean war in the fifties to provide freedom for South Korea and this is how new Canadian #Koreans decide to treat original #Canadian #Indigenous people. #Shame #donotshoplist I am sending in my complaint to Summers Wang and the Provincial Ministry of Finance 1-866-668-8297.

They have so many varieties of KitKats from Japan. And so many exotic Lay's Potato Chip flavours. Their drink selection is also impressive. Lots of Fanta flavours, lots Mountain Dew flavours, and they have those Pokemon canned drinks too. In addition to candies, chips and drinks, they also sell cosmetics, toys, housewares, and kawaii stationery. The ceilings have cool neon lights. The shopping carts and baskets are pink and yellow. They have claw machines, but weren't set up yet when I went, but I suspect the plan is to have them functional in the future. Staff are nice and leave you alone to browse, but are available if you need help. Street parking or paid parkade parking only. It's right downtown/on the edge of the Byward Market, so parking is always a pain. Definitely worth a trek across town to visit. My coworker who lived in Japan for a few years said it reminded her of Japan.

T&T stands for Tina & Tiffany, after the founder's 2 daughters. T&T are also the initials of 2 early investors as well. You can find this market in the same plaza as Mary Brown's Chicken & Taters with plenty of parking. I love shopping at T&T Supermarket with such a vast selection of fresh produce, seafood/ meat, dried and fresh noodles, bakery goods, teas, premade foods/ meals, etc (there is also a hot food bar you can pick from and serve yourself and pay by the weight). My husband and I stopped by this particular location this afternoon. It was pretty busy, but that was expected on a Saturday. We got our cart (requires $1 to use but you will get it back after you return it) and then went inside to shop. Coming from Montreal and shopping there earlier this week, I was surprised to find that some of the same items at this location actually cost a little more. For example, I was looking for this special Hong Kong Milk Tea bag that saw that it cost $1 more for the box than at the location in Montreal. I like that this market is clean and does not have that familiar smell that some Asian markets may have. Aisles are wide enough to navigate your cart through and each aisle is labeled accordingly to help shoppers find where they may want to shop in. During this shopping visit, my husband and I ended up purchasing a live lobster. He really wanted to get some seafood during our trip and also that the vacation rental we are staying in has a good size steamer in the kitchen and figured it would be good to cook it while we are here. For lobster and crabs, you pick the one you want and place it in one of the plastic baskets, then you can bring it up to the employee behind the seafood counter and they will weight it for you, bag it and place a price sticker on it for you. I like that there is a self check out area, as the line for that went by so much faster than the other lines. Overall, a positive experience and would frequent this location if I lived here.

The original location is in Chinatown on Somerset and the second location is in Kanata (on Kanata Ave). This location is the smallest of the three. Nonetheless, the selection was still good. And prices are the same as the other Kowloon locations. They had a good variety of Asian snacks and imported drinks. They had produce and raw meats too. They sell frozen banana leaves. I also saw frozen durian. The store was well lit and clean looking. My visit was during their soft opening so their shelves weren't fully stocked. Nonetheless, I was able to pick up a few items. I got some rice paper imported from Vietnam, some konjac jelly from Japan and some grape tomatoes grown in Mexico. Staff were pleasant. They have lots of Caribbean and African items that are difficult to find at regular grocery stores. They do have dried salted fish at the back of the store, so parts of the store do smell like fish. They sell Jamaican beef patties too! Aisles are a bit narrow, so a bit difficult to manoeuvre if someone else is in one with a shopping cart. It's in a strip mall so lots of free parking.
