I love Sephora and this branch in Manhattan beach is exceptional. I could spend hours in here with so many wonderful treats to choose from. The staff are superb and I simply LOVE all the free samples I get when i make a purchase. Whenever I visit the store I always have a list of items I am trying to find and the staff are so helpful and accommodating helping me to locate them even if they are always busy. I have to admit it, I don't think I have ever bought anything from Sephora. How crazy that is sounds, part of the reason is because I'm in the beauty/spa business and never buy skincare, since I purchased wholesale and bought most of my make up from CVS. Until the dreaded age started creeping up on me. Now, I see more age spots, wrinkles and I can't seem to find the right shade of foundation that will cover all those flaws. One of my co-workers who use to work for Sephora as a make up artist, immediately looked at my uneven skin tone and said, " make up forever, shade # 53" So, needless to say... Walked in like a deer in front of headlights, overwhelmed and a bit frazzled, I've been to trade shows where you have millions of lipsticks and eye shadows with no name and POOF, you put your own label on it and sell it for triple amount, that's primarily why I stayed away from these make up stores. However, Monique, my make up specialist was awesome, she was patient and showed me several options on how it looked and felt. I've had a wonderful experience at each and every location and because of that I am a loyal customer. It is always fun to explore the store and all of its goodies like Urban Decay eyeshadows and Stila lip glosses. Speaking of lip glosses I just got a free set of three Sephora issue glosses today because I am a Beauty Insider and because my birthday is coming up. How cool is that?! It's a generous set too. Three full sized glosses that are in shades of pink, rose, as well as bronze. Love it! Also, after the cashier lady rung me up, she smiled and said, "Happy Birthday!". My birthday isn't until Aug. 10th but still, it felt nice. This promotional item is available 14 days before and 14 days after your b-day. I rated this particular Sephora store a one star because I felt like I had an extremely horrible bad experience, no welcoming or smiling and I felt so decriminated. No customer service what so ever!! I've been to other stores and I always get a generous greeting. And usually when I need help someone always ask me if I needed help before I even ask, but this store I felt like they were watching me or waiting for me to steal or something. Anyways I was looking at some of their foundations and I asked one of the workers if she can tell me the difference between the longwear and weightless foundations because I was looking for some coverage and she looked at me puzzled and said, "Obviously, the foundation that your holding in your hand is not weightless, the boxed is label longwear." And she rolled her eyes and just walked away as if she had an attitude. Then I went over to the fragrance section and asked one of the workers if they would offer me a free sample of the fragrance. As he was pouring the tester fragrance bottle into the sample spray he only gave me 1/4 which equals to the amount of Only two or three sprays, with no "Your Welcome!" or anything he looked like he didn't want to be there. Then I walked over to the cash register and all of the workers seem shocked that I didn't say anything and I was making a purchase for the foundation. Then after my purchase I asked the manager if it would be ok if I could get a full size sample spray fragrance and looked at my and said "Don't you already have one"? I felt so embarrassed, like why would make me feel less than. So I stood by the door and she went to pour another sample and brought it back to me completely empty! And said have a great night. I didn't noticed it until I left the store. The store was not even busy to begin with. But I felt very embarrassed and so discriminated that I began to cry. I don't know if it was because of the location they thought are a high ended store or what but it was very disrespectful, cruel and very rude. I might as well be invisible when I try to shop at Sephora. There are sales folks all over (I can tell by their attire, and, sometimes, how they look), but no one asks me if I need help or what I might be looking for. On a couple of occasions I've actually taken the initiative to engage one of those people to ask a question -- and I'm just pointed in a general direction or referred to someone else (who is busy). I think I must have walked into that store -- and left -- at least a half dozen times. They all look very efficient with their headsets and black 'uniforms' -- but whatever happened to taking care of customers? read more

Yesterday at lunch time I purchased a shampoo, conditioner and a face creme. About a half hour later I realized I had been charged for 1 shampoo and 2 face cremes The price for the face cremes was $14 more than the tag on the shelf. I re-stood in line. The salesperson credited me for the $38 error but still tried to charge me $2 more for the face creme than the price shown on the shelf. At the end the cashier not the manager ever said sorry, sorry that occurred or sorry you had to come back and wait in line again. Nothing. The salespersons are youthful, but Jeez they are not 9 years old, they should know how to apologize! Makes me think over charging, and distracting buyers at checkout is done on purpose, hey figure you won't notice! Take notice of the prices displayed and really check your receipts!!! read more

To think that I seriously spend at least $1,000 a year on skin care, make-up, hair-care, gifts, etc at Sephora...well, I loved the store up until today. I tried to return or exchange an item without a receipt (which is ok per their policy) and I got a printout of a receipt stating based on TRE, The Retail Equation, I cannot make another return for 365 days, granted, I can't remember the last time I returned an item at Sephora, must be at least a year. The fact they took my ID, to send my information to this third party company without my permission, and the fact that they make you feel like a thief, and hide behind his company and tell you, "I don't know, you have to call TRE", is ridiculous!!!! Anyway, I'm just going to shop on Amazon, Nordstrom, anywhere else except Sephora for my beauty needs and give this product to my mom or a friend, rather take the loss than to deal with even trying to get this TRE company to respond. read more

Had to be the rudest group of sales people and "management " I've ever had the misfortune to deal with. Yesterday I spent nearly $300 with these folks an I'm seriously thinking of taking it all back! The "makeup artist" was really not a happy person never smiled or even made eye contact with me. I knew what I wanted an all she had to do was find it for me an put it in the little basket they provide. She never offered a substitute for items they didn't have or even expressed an interest in my purchases . When I had to leave to pick up my child at school she just handed me the basket an that was that. The people at the check stand were no better all looked bored and distracted. Not at all interested in me. I know they have samples to put in your bag, but no one offered anything. What a group of snotty brats, don't shop here if you can avoid it.. read more

I love Sephora and their products, however this location is the worse I have EVER been to. It is big but the employees here never greet you, ask if you need help or even acknowledge you. I went here last night and there was ten workers and I took three laps around trying to find a brand and no one helped me, I had to ask someone who looked at me, then looked away immediately if she knew where the brand was. Then I go up to pay and the line is long and there is four registers, and only two are open and there are five girls standing behind the counter talking. Next thing I know, it went down to one cashier. And in the mean time, there is still a line, but the employees would rather gossip. I had to exchange something and after they looked in computers for five minutes they told me because I got it from a different location, they cant take it because they dont have it in the beauty to go size, only the regular size. Sephora should be able to accept ANY item I got from any Sephora. But of course they suck and now I get to drive to a different one just to return something. o yes, and if you look online, they have a natural section, if you look in the ingredients, not a single item on their natural section is natural. It took me three hours to find a product that has no bismuth, mica, parabens, talc, sulfates, petros and phthalates which all do damage and scarring and some are even carcinogens. Soooo, please read ingredients, only thing I found without all this is Nars sheer glow, Josie Maran Argan Matchmaker Serum Foundation and Lorac Natural Performance Foundation. And manhattan sephora doesn't carry Lorac so you can get that online. I really like the customer service at Del Amo, but the Sephora at Del Amo is also tiny. So if you like Sephora and want to continue liking them, stay away from Manhattan Village Sephora! read more

I am a Sephora addict. Make up is my muse. But I really can't stand the Manhattan Beach location. The employees talk more to each other than to customers. I have to stand and wait for these girls to stop talking or say "sorry for interrupting, I have a question". It's frustrating. Another thing about this location is that they are always out of what I need or the color I need. And being a "Rouge" member doesn't mean much. I love going to the Santa Monica location. Super busy and professional. Manhattan Beach needs to step it up and re-train their staff on how to treat their customers read more

I'm giving this Sephora 2 stars simply because they were stocked and have a wonderful selection of products. With that being said, the service here is mediocre. I walked in and not one person greeted me. I personally like when someone asks me why I'm there and then directs me to certain products and are knowledgable about the product. But sadly, nothing. Thankfully, I had done some prior research and knew what I was looking for this time. I've also called this Sephora asking about certain products and received little to no information. Went to this store in Manhattan Beach because it is larger than the Torrance department at Pennys. Sales people more intent on fixing their faces then helping customers. However, the most alarming aspect of this store is that the sound system is blaring so load that when you finally do get assistance you have to keep repeating yourself because the sales clerk can't hear you! They keep asking you "WHAT"? Then after realizing what you need they take you to the particular area for the product you are looking for and you can't hear a word they say. Finally had to just leave the store because it was giving me a headache. I'll never set foot there again! read more

This location is terrible. They are perpetually understaffed and most of the salespeople are ridiculously bad at makeup. I keep getting the same very young goth type pierced face girl who gives the world's worst advice. I asked her help color matching some foundation. She took one look at me and said no you're not medium, you're light. Uh ok, not possible- I am slightly olive and tan easily and it's the end of summer. I bought the medium anyway and it's still too light- I looked ashen and chalky, and I confirmed this with a qualified Sephora salesperson at century city yesterday. If I had used light I would have looked completely white. In the past that same girl has basically said things like, well, you know, it's really just whatever color you want, gotta go bye. So totally not helpful. On other occasions I've been helped by people who appear to be salespeople but are actually product reps selling their own line. So that's obviously not great if you're looking for advice. But mostly it's just a sea of people who need help and aren't getting it. I hate the 405 and try to never leave the South Bay, but I'll be making the effort more often. read more

I had a much better day there today. A woman called Shar helped me tremendously with products for my daughter. Rouge, shadow, eye liner, lipstick to make up like the 70's. She was knowledgable about the time period, the product lines, colors and application. And she was barely over 20 years old. She was also a good teacher. I don't really like to review big chains unless I had an experience really worth talking about. My mom and I were looking to jump on the BB cream bandwagon and we had very little experience with it. Let me just say that the associates knew as much as we did, which was nothing. I have been pushing more for natural skin products and wanted to find something from origins. I was told that Origins didn't make a BB Cream by not 1, but 2 of the associates. I thought that sounded very strange as when I walked over to the Origins section, I picked up a small tube that said "BB Cream" on it. As someone who has very acne prone skin sensitive skin, I don't appreciate it when employees pull random information out of their butt and tell me stuff they don't really know about. I'd rather people say that they didn't know. Sephora itself is a great store and I love just swatching things in the store, but when it comes to customer service, although very attentive, they have very misleading information. read more

my shopping experience here was exceptional! i was looking for the perfect red lipstick/chubby pencil (at the time i had never purchased any type of lip color product and was also looking to get some advice on how to apply lip color properly), and my usual go-to brand is MAC. i headed over to the MAC in the el segundo shopping center, and found an available make-up artist hoping that she could provide me with some advice/guidance, etc. unfortunately, she didn't really help much or provide any useful insight... she helped pick out a few shades and then sat me down, told me to try the shades myself and walked away to help another customer. after playing around with the shades she provided me for a minute, i left without purchasing anything. i went to the sephora in the manhattan beach mall and the customer service was SO much better. an available makeup artist walked me through the entire lipstick/lip color selection that the store had, educated me on the differences between the different product lines and brands, picked out a few for me based on what i was looking for, and actually helped me with the application/gave great tips. i ended up buying the NARS Dragon Girl chubby lip pencil. more than satisfied with my purchase, all thanks to excellent quality customer service! read more

i have been to many sephora stores but by far manhattan beach is truly the best - it has just about anything you are looking for and their customer service people are the best - they are there for you - they take their time and will find it no matter what - culver city try but locked in the confines of a j.c.penny's store really restricts all the items that the larger stores carry- but their people are nice - but the santa monica store on the promenade they try to hide when they see you come in - i have never seen such a large store with so large a sales staff be so reluctant to offer help - as a result i will travel farther for good service and never darken santa monica sephora doors again- right on manhattan beach read more
