I'm a busy mom to an 18mo old and hadn't updated my makeup in WAY too long. However, I'd been pinning about it for several months on my Pinterest "Beautylicious" board and decided after seeing a distinct foundation line on my jawbone (since I never switched out my summer makeup for winter) that it was high time for a trip to Sephora. In addition to stocking up on my usual staples, I decided to venture into the world of contouring. However, never having done that before, I wasn't sure where to begin or what products to get. Thank God I encountered the beauty mavens known as Sandy and Stefan! Sandy spent 30min working with me to match the appropriate foundation to my current skin tone and pick out the brushes I was missing for proper application. And Stefan - the wonderful Stefan - spent 30min teaching me about the art of contouring with bronzer and highlighting with concealer (I always though you were just supposed to use a shimmery powder on top of your foundation - who knew?) Both were gracious, knowledgeable and helpful and made my journey significantly easier to navigate. Plus, they were good sports about posing for a picture when I told them I wanted to Tweet/Yelp about my fab experience. I had a very good experience with a Sephora makeover recently. You can make an appointment for a full face makeover online and all you have to do is purchase a $50 gift card when you get there to commit to spending money on makeup (or I guess you can really do anything with the gift card because it's just a normal gift card). I made my appointment because I was doing a boudoir photography shoot and figured whoever I get as my makeup artist is going to do a better job than I could ever do. I assume that the Sephora Makeovers are hit-or-miss as far as how good your artist is. Fortnately my person was fantastic. If you ever do a makeover at Sephora Tysons ask for Lucila. She really took her time and did a fabulous job. The appointment time was for 45 minutes but I was there for about an hour or so. She found out through the Skin IQ thing that the foundation I had was like 4 shades too light (oops). The only reason I'm not giving all 5 stars is because it's annoying that a different Sephora employee (over a year ago) gave me the wrong foundation color and I've been using it for the past year and a half. In general, Sephora is super fun to browse around and there are almost always lots of employees to help you out. It easy to spend a lot of money here so be careful! read more

While it is a big and spacious location, not ONE PERSON asked me did I need ANY assistance. I was bent over, looking through colors I wanted, etc. It was QUITE OBVIOUS that I did need help and they just continued to walk by and help others (not everyone was helping someone). There seemed to be plenty of MUA walking around, but guess they may have been on the hunt for other customers (I am trying to cut them some slack...........NOT). Though this location does carry a lot of brands, I found the selection of lipstick and gloss colors was greatly reduced from what is carried online with some brands (carrying less than 25% of what I found online). This was my first time to this location. Won't be breaking my neck to get back to it, either. I will stick with my tried and true location(s). IF I am ever in the mall, again, and need something from Sephora, I MAY stop by, but the customer service was so horrible, I doubt it. I've been here a few times since it's conveniently located in the mall and I work nearby a lot, so it's easy to walk over after work. The store is pretty big and is organized by brand; there's also a K-beauty section, a hair section, and a fragrance section. It's easy to lose track of time since there's a lot to look at. Also, since I'm not super familiar with specific makeup brands, the set-up by brand is a little counterintuitive since I wind up having to go to separate areas of the store to compare brushes or eyeshadow palettes, but I recognize that's something that's specific to me. The store does have areas where they have multiple brands of the same product type in 1 place, which helps; I remember seeing a comparison set up the last time I was there, where you could easily compare, say, Laura Mercier setting powder with Urban Decay setting spray. The first time I came in was to get a custom makeover on a weekday evening a few months ago; I'd made an appointment ahead of time, but the store wasn't too busy when I got there. I did wind up waiting a bit more than I'd expected before my session, but Emily, who did my makeup, was really sweet and easy to talk to. She did a nice job on my makeup; it was a little heavier than I liked, but it was also my first makeover and I wasn't clear about what I wanted or what I was looking for. I do remember that Emily determined my shade of foundation, but later found it was out of stock and had to use a different shade; my makeup didn't look bad, but it's still disappointing that they were out of stock. I came back a few times afterwards to pick up a few items here or there; once, Nordstrom and Bloomingdales were out of the Clinique body sunscreen and I was able to find 1 tube of it in the Clinique section here. Most recently, I stopped by on a Saturday afternoon around 3 pm to pick up primer and brushes. It was pretty busy since it was the weekend, but 2 different SAs asked me if I needed help, which was nice. I'm not sure where the baskets are in the store, but 1 SA asked me if I needed one at one point and was walking around the store offering them to customers. I was able to find most of what I needed, but they were out of some of the Sephora Collection brushes and brush sets that I wanted. Some of the merchandise looked dusty. The check-out line wasn't too long; there were 4 registers open at the time, including 1 that was credit card only. This Sephora is a pretty solid place to do some beauty product browsing, and is conveniently located. I do try to limit my visits, since it's easy to spend a lot of time and money if you're not careful. My most recent visit, I got a generous container of setting powder, 1 brush (double-ended), and a small bottle of brush cleaner, and my total came out to be just under $80. read more

I am not a make up junkie but past couple of months my interest has shifted towards makeup. So I watch alot of you tube videos, read articles etc. And of course I go to Sephora to buy stuff. Yesterday I went to buy a foundation I was interested in Giorgio Armani but associate wanted me to get some other brand. Being a learner I trust these associates completely but sometimes I feel some try to be pushy which is not nice. My wife and I came into this store yesterday and while she shopped I sat down on one of the chairs at a counter that evidently was for women to use when trying out products. The other three chairs were unoccupied and no one was waiting for the chair I was sitting in. One of the staff came over and forced me to get up since its "only for customers." I am a senior citizen with a bad back and desperately needed to sit down and rest for a few minutes while my wife went about her business buying THEIR products, and I explained this to her, but that didn't count. Because of my wonderful experience at Sephora over the weekend, I decided this place is a well deserved 5 stars. Place - so apparently, they moved location and just opened up and the place is new and has a lot of products. They upped their travel sized section, which suckered me. Service - I was bummed I couldn't get my eyeliner from TooFaced three-way liner.. Until a sales associate asked what I needed and informed her they ran out of the eyeliner. She promptly told me she has one more and grabbed it out of nowhere and I was one happy camper. I walked my happy butt to the cash register, not without picking up some travel sized LivingProof. You guys, if you have frizz hair issue and need it tamed, this is the BEST product EVER. So much so, I even took the time to go to their website and complimented their products which I received and personalized thank you email in return. The cash register gal, Camila? Carmila? Was friendly, very helpful, and went above and beyond to explain to me about the upcoming 500 point perks, got me to buy 1 more item to get a free baggy, and got a free makeup bag for using my VIB. The staff was uber helpful. I came in direct contact with store associate's Evangeline and Deangelo. The store was very busy for a non holiday weekday. It was maybe eve a Monday. Anyway, I was satisfied with the service. I required assistance with perfume samples. Evangeline called on her intercom/walkie-talkie thing to request assistance for me. The young lady that originally worked in the area was on the register. Deangelo came along, stopped what he was doing and helped right away. I was impressed. That being said, I will shop there again. Why not five. ... An associate reached across me, no pardon, excuse me or anything. The trash needed to be dumped at all stations, BUT that is what Evangeline was coordinating. I had a custom 45 minute makeover booked with Lucy today. I got there ten minutes early (like I was told!), but I had to sit and wait for thirty minutes. I understand they were busy, but I had reserved a spot at 6 and Lucy didn't even start until 6:20. I had hoped to use the time to find some new products and learn how to apply them since I'm not great with makeup. Lucy didn't explain what she was doing, and made me feel silly for not knowing about the products. She seemed rushed and sloppy and couldn't get the lip color on right. It wasn't worth my time or money. I was so disappointed in the experience, and honestly, I just felt so messy and unattractive by the end that I was glad to leave. Some of the people that work here are incredibly helpful but half of the time they're really rude. I'm a frequent shopper because I work in the mall and the employees recognize me and often don't even greet me or ask if i need any help. I understand that I'm a mall employee and I stop in often but sometimes I still need guidance. read more

Just like every other Sephora I've been to. One slight exception was that the one thing I was looking for, they didn't have in stock. Even though they could have it shipped to my place for free, the price online was more expensive than the price in store as posted so that was a bummer. Otherwise I've always loved coming to Sephora and this wasn't an exception. Just hope to find what I'm looking for in stock next time. read more

A very busy Sephora in Tyson's Corner mall (level 2) with surprisingly good service. We came here for advice on eye brows makeup and an issue with corrector caking up (crumbling off). Despite the busy time on a Saturday evening two staff members quickly helped us (tried on a number of different makeups) and guided us to a few choices of products. When we were ready to pay it was fast as well. Overall a friendly Sephora. I did not come in with a lot of expectation because it's a mall location. read more

This Sephora is amazing - the manager and team provided a simple and straightforward solution for what could have been a really awful experience. I had purchased the Tria Laser product for a few hundred dollars a week prior to opening up the box. After excitedly cutting through the sealed plastic surrounding the box, to my horror I found a bag of flour in place of my product. I let out a shocked scream. I knew how bad this situation would look. After anxiously driving back to the store, I exclaimed "I need to see the manager" to the greeter in what was probably a terrifying tone. The manager was summoned and I explained (and showed her) my situation. She was shocked as well and had never seen anything like it before. After viewing my receipt, she let me know she would have to contact the big big boss to see how we would proceed. She then found me and let me know the faulty product would be exchanged for a new (real and legitimate) one. She let me know if it was sealed that was a manufacturing issue and it was the best way to proceed. I thanked her profusely as I know this could have turned into a far uglier situation with an investigation, additional waiting time, etc. It's always telling how companies proceed in difficult situations, and this Sephora in particular really gave me the best customer service and experience in light of an unusual and complicated problem. read more

On Saturdays they have their own DJ. Parking at Tyson's on the weekend is a nightmare.The AMC is very clean and well lit. BTW, go see the film, Demolition it was very good. Sephora is my therapy...I go in there to not be disturbed, I attempt to try on products without too much distraction. Lately, I find the mud products and cleansers to be on target with my skin. I noticed that twelve hours after using the Origins defoliator and the Cocoa mud that my face is unbelievably smooth and moist. Sephora prices are better than the department stores. Macy's cosmetics department is overpriced and the salespeople are fairly aggressive. If you are only into testing products without the hassle of people stay home. read more

So here's the skinny: I am a tried-and-true, Youtube-tutorial watching, paycheck-splurging, makeup-wearing Beauty Insider. I am the girl who wants to try out every new product that hits the shelves, the girl who can tell you exactly which brand carries the best eyeshadow primer (it's Urban Decay Primer Potion, in case you were wondering), and who has spent more money on makeup than is probably even feasible to the average person. I really, really love makeup. So, thus, it makes sense that I would naturally love Sephora. Sephora, where you can spend an hour going around from display to display, prettifying yourself with mascaras, eyeshadows, powders, lip sticks/stains/glosses/balms. Sephora, where you can literally give yourself a free manicure at their seemingly endless nail polish display station. Sephora, where as long as you don't really think about how many faces that eye pencil has probably already touched today, you have the makeup world at your fingertips. And as of Thursday, July 3rd, 2014, Sephora at Tysons is even better, because they've moved into their new storefront down the hall, and it's bigger, cleaner, friendlier, and more beautiful than ever. I actually was originally kind of perturbed, because I went to Sephora last Tuesday in an attempt to help a friend pick out a foundation only to find that they had closed down the old store and hadn't opened the new one yet. Thankfully, upon my return trip to Tysons on Sunday, walking into the new location has more than made up for my previous lack of a visit. The store was literally swarming with helpful consultants, the line went quickly, and it seems like they have more mirrors and more makeup tool/cleaning stations than the old storefront did. The displays were clean, nothing seemed to be out of stock, and I left with a new look on my face and $142 less in my wallet. For the few of you out there who might be interested, my score included: a much-coveted Anastasia Brow Wiz, Makeup Forever setting powder, a new Benefit eyeshadow, Smashbox liquid eyeliner (which might be my new favorite, I was SO impressed when I tried it in-store!), and a couple of new brushes. That might not seem like a lot of stuff for the pricetag, but hey, this ain't Wet & Wild we're talking about here. Quality makeup costs money, but it's worth it to me. Thanks to Sephora's Beauty Insider program (free to sign up, like most rewards programs), I was also able to spend my points on a fun bronzer kit from Tarte. A good friend of mine is really into make-up, and she wanted to check out some of the goods at Sephora. I don't do make-up, but I do appreciate the nice selection of brands they carry, especially in the fragrance category. It's a one-stop-shop for a variety of brands, instead of making your way to each section in a department store. While my amiga was checking out the foundations and the concealers, I was more focused on the Tom Ford line - I was so happy when I found out that they had the Neroli Portofino line, as only select Sephora stores carry this particular private blend. The staff here are super friendly, and they really answered any questions you had as well as offered few of their favorite suggestions and alternatives. This store was extremely busy on Christmas Eve Eve. Everything was running smoothly. I came in around 10:30pm and met with several experts around the store. The Perricone rep is a lovely lady, and I've spoken with her several times before at the Sephora in Pentagon City. Worst service EVER!!! I saw about 8-10 girls working up front and about 2 of them were busy...the rest were just chatting with their coworkers not helpful at all. I'm honestly so disappointed. I waited 20mins for someone to help me and I had 4 girls around chatting and not acknowledging I need help ? I've worked in retail and I know how to approach someone but these girls were all snobby and acted like they were to good to help anyone. I had to approach someone for help and she wasn't even helpful she went to ask over for an expert but she had the same uniform as her? And she had nothing that said expert of the product? She puts the foundation on my hand to find out my color but not on my face ? I honestly felt like she was bothered to work or help. Mixed feelings about this location. Sometimes you can find the help you need easily and they are friendly. Other times you wait and wait as one rep tries to find someone else to help you...never saying why they can't help you themselves. Other tines I get bombarded by brand reps pushing product on me and not being nice about it (sometimes condescending and insulting). But the REN rep was very nice and not pushy so I enjoyed learning about the brand. The last time I was in the rep was having a hard time color matching me for a foundation that I was interested in buying. It was frustrating and I left without the foundation. read more

I would give this negative stars if I could. This location is disgustingly rude. I went in on a Wednesday 10/16 around 7 and I went in looking for a primer and concealer. I saw employees walking back and forth and they would look right past me and never offered to help. Once I could finally get someone's attention (a girl in a hijab) . I asked her a quick question and she just said she'll call someone else so I waited in that same spot for 15 min ... I was getting frustrated and called someone else . Before I could start my sentence they cut me off and said they were busy and that someone else could help . I waited another 5 min before I finally got angry enough and left . This is Sephora done right! Large, bright, airy, and well-stocked. Staff was nice and attentive (even just a half hour before closing on a busy Sunday night). I'm so happy that I was finally able to get my Make Up For Ever products here. (See my review on the Pentagon City Sephora if you want to understand why I couldn't get them there.) Big props to Ginger for her knowledgeable, patient assistance as I tried on one color after another, and also a huge thank you to the nice African-American girl who rang me up and gave me some free product samples. They've tons of brands and it's usually pretty well organized. If you can't find it in the store, you can order it online- and online orders come with free samples. I love this Sephora store. I buy my cosmetics from different places and it is one of the best. It feels like heaven walking in the store. Everything I want and need is in one place. I can check out the color, the ingredients, the fragrance side by side. The consultants do beautiful jobs. I have yet to try but I saw their work. I love this sephora location. In the Tysons mall, I always end up stopping here and blowing my budget on new skin and makeup products. The employees are super friendly, attentive and always make it a point to help you find exactly what you need. Not sure if a products right for use? They're super liberal with their samples and have a killer exchange policy - you can bring anything in any condition back. My only complaint is that this location is always Super packed and the lines to check out can be super long, especially on the weekends. Don't forget to check out the travel and sample sized offerings on the racks lining the checkout line. I've discovered some really neat products I'm this area. read more

I was excited to visit the Sephora out Tyson's after work because I was able to ride the Silver line out. The store was bigger but skimpy on the product selection. I guess I was expecting s lot because it was out Tyson which is know as the 1st mega mall in the DC area. I was excite to find my Laura Mercier high coverage for under eye concealer and roses de Chloe rollerball. The disappointing part is when I checked my concealer today it was filled with water & looks empty like the package I have currently at home. Not very pleased about my recent experience to this Sephora. Unlike the Fairfax location (where the SA's check in regularly to see if you need assistance) I made eye contact with an SA who was just standing around (it almost looked like she was hiding behind a display) and she completely ignored me. I knew exactly which product I wanted, but needed help figuring out which shade would best suit my skin tone. I approached said SA and she acted like I was really putting her out for asking if someone could help me. I politely waited while she called another women over, who, in turn found someone to help me. The reason I gave this store 2 stars (instead of 0) is that Tiffany, the woman who ended up helping me, was very amiable and helped me find exactly what I was looking for. (Thank you!) read more

I really like Sephora at Tyson's, I've never had a bad experience here. There's always someone friendly ready to help you, apply make-up for you upon request, and generally assist you with choosing the right products for you. I also love the fact that they give you a gift on your birthday (I recently received a Marc Jacobs lipstick and eyeliner which I absolutely adore). My favorite brands here are: smash box (for contour), urban decay/Naked (for blush palettes, and lipgloss), too faced (for primer and bronzer), and benefit (for mascara primer, and the Pore-fessional collection), and the NARS concealer is absolutely amazing! I've also previously tried the bronzer from Bobbi Brown which was fantastic as well! I also recommend the clarisonic mia electric product for skin care/face washing. I love it and it always leaves my face feeling clean from all dirt, oil, and gently exfoliated (depending on the cleanser you apply on the facial brush). read more
