Sephora. Sigh. I wish I wasn't such a fan, because I'd have a lot more money if I could be happy with drugstore makeup. Sephora carries a large selection of high-end makeup, fragrances, and general beauty supplies. They have very friendly and helpful staff who will guide you through the maze that is beauty products to find the perfect eyeliner/blush/foundation. I've had my makeup done here several times, and each time it comes out fantastic. I haven't had it done in a few years, but it used to be a free service as long as you spent $60 in products (which I'm luck if I get out of there with ONLY $60 on a normal trip!). The cashiers are really unskilled and they never give me free samples (this time I finally asked and was given only 2 even though online you get 3). Long story short, they are unable to recognize how to use their own promotional giftcards ($15 off of $50). The reason I say they are unskilled is because of my most recent visit where I downloaded my giftcard onto my passbook on the iPhone which is supposed to make things easier because you can just scan the barcode, but the cashier appeared confused so I then had to open up my email for her. Another cashier was checking out my cousin and it literally took her at least 5 minutes to complete the transaction. I admit my cousin was making an exchange and using her giftcard at the same time which makes thing a little more complicated. However, the sales associates are really helpful and I've noticed that they have increased the number of associates on the floor for the holiday season which is awesome because there's always someone available! read more

Really irritated with what happened on Friday (12/8) night. I went in asking for something super hydrating, full coverage for foundation. My skin is SUPER sensitive and is the midst of a freak-out due to a toothpaste I used. Yes...my skin is that retarded. I approached an associate (cant remember her name - it was something uncommon. She was right by the Marc Jacobs stuff, and had super short hair). I was immediately asked my current skincare routine, and once I told her, I got the worst look and sound of disgust and was told I absolutely could not be helped until I talked to skin care. (A dermatologist recommended what Ive been using for YEARS, and while I'm sure it sounds horrendous to this type of establishment, my face has been flawless up until now and has nothing to do with my current issues). Anyway, Rhianna in skin care was an absolute dream. Super helpful, completely understanding of my situation, gave me samples which I actually love and am considering switching to if no further breakouts occur from it. I went back over to make-up and couldn't find anyone else to help me so decided to just remain friendly and go back to the same associate that had been somewhat rude. Unprofessional, at the very least. I reiterated I wanted something super hydrating with full coverage, but couldn't spend a fortune. Without blinking she recommended Marc Jacobs Super Genius. She dabbed a couple colors on my jaw line, and ultimately another customer helped me pick a shade. I asked if there were any other brands she would recommend me trying and I basically got a big, fat "nope." This whole process felt extremely rushed. I was really hoping to spend some time on this, what with the condition of my skin, but she wasn't having it. So I asked if I could just get a sample of the MJ so I could see if it breaks me out within a week of wearing it consistently (plus..ya know...the price tag). "Oh we can't give you samples of this. You have to buy it and just return it if you don't like it." UMM WHAT? Am I not in Sephora, Sample Heaven? At this point I was so annoyed I just took it from her. Keep in mind I was buying a pricey primer that I use, as well as a gift card, so its not like I was trying to just get out of there with armloads of samples and not pay for anything. Heck I hadn't even intended on getting skincare stuff. Anyway I grabbed the MJ and asked about powder, so she sent me to laura mercier. I get over there, and after having to chase someone down to help me, the girl there says "oh so you must have oily skin if she sent you here." Umm no. Not only did the original associate not listen to a word I said, but this girl didn't see the LARGE FLAKES OF SKIN ON MY FACE?!?! Anyway i politely said no, polar opposite. So she recommended I get the illuminating powder ....which is loaded with glitter...instead of the setting powder. I was questioning it, but she said its often used as an all-over powder. I was getting annoyed with this whole thing so I just went to the counter to pay. I got home and pulled up reviews on both the foundation and the powder and pretty much EVERYTHING said to STAY AWAY from BOTH PRODUCTS if you have dry skin and need lots of coverage. SERIOUSLY?!?! I did my best not to get mad and told myself to wait until this morning and actually full-fledge try it out before blowing a gasket. Sure enough, the foundation provided NO coverage what so ever and honestly looked horrible. And the powder, while very pretty, is WAY too glittery for an all-over. And of course made dry skin look horrible lol. I really feel like no one besides the skincare associate listen to a word I said, and I really hated that I was made to feel like a moron initially just because I don't have some super fancy skin care routine, and used a certain makeup (which Sephora carries, btw, so how bad can it really be??????). OH, and when I got home last night I looked in the mirror and realized she didn't even attempt to blend the 2 colors in to my face. I had walked around the mall for the remainder of the time with foundation just plopped on my face. That's another testament to the poor lighting in the store - i couldn't see this when looking in the mirror. I hate leaving bad reviews, as I myself am a manager. I don't want to be one of THOSE people, but I would want to know if one of my clients had the experience I had. I went to the city centre location today and had a GREAT experience and was matched up with the perfect foundation. In my price range, I might add. And when I told her what I use to wash my face and moisturize, she sure as hell didn't make a face or make me feel like an idiot. So goodbye to the MCM location! I will never go back, as it isn't the first time I've 1) had issues trying to find someone willing to help me, and 2) received rude/poor service. After a terrible experience with Ulta, I came here for a new makeup / face regiment collection. I am so glad I did. The associates here are so incredibly attentive and knowledgeable-- I felt like a had a personal shopper the entire time, definitely above and beyond what I expect from any store. There were at least 3 different associates that approached me while I was shopping, helped me with application, tips, and suggested great brands within my price range based on my preferences. I LOVE Sephora! I went today with a very specific need, and they were consistent with the last couple of times I have been there. I was greeted immediately by 2 or 3 sales associates. They are friendly and helpful, but they don't breathe down your neck! They GET IT!! I can certainly tell you that this location is for rich, white ladies. Unless we have Gucchi, Channel bags, we Asian girls are not welcome in this location, hahah. I came in to get my match for the Giorgio Amani foundation, my beauty consultant used the foundation matching machine to test my skin. We ladies know that the machine doesn't work on everyone. Beside I have had bad experiences with that gadget so I politely asked the consultant (while SMILING) if she can choose a lighter shade with warmer tone for me. She came back and get the foundation that the machine told her, which was 2 shades darker than my skin tone and in different tone (obviously she didn't listen to me at all.) When she tried the foundation on my face, she just totally gave me a silent treatment. And when I asked for her opinion (I have really weak vision) and told her that I felt the foundation look too dark and too pink on me, can she try another shade or recommend me other foundation with my shade, she told me that there are no shade that match my skin tone. The beauty consultant gave me an annoyed look and made me feel as if an alien in this store, kind of like "oh, she is Asian, she is cheap, she will not buy anything why asking so much." It got me mad. I just got off the chair an told her that she just lost this Sephora a Rouge. Have been a Sephora Rouge for so many years, I'm hurt and disappointed of how this Sephora treated their customer. I don't think I will ever come back to this location at all. Staff on the floor is nice but the cashiers are not very friendly or helpful. I have not received my $25 email for vib rouge yet and when I called Sephora I was told I could get the $25 discount through telephone or in store as long as I provided information. The cashier acted like it was a hassle to look up my information and did not bother to really help me even though I was buying more than $100 worth of products. I went to Sephora because I wanted the Kat Von D Divine palette. I walked in not to busy passed four sales people right off the bat not one asked if I needed assistance. I found the the KVD display but I could not find the palette. I walked around some more still NOT ONE sales person asked if they could help. I finally found two sales people chatting and I asked if they had Divine palette they had no idea what I was referring to. I said by KVD. Oh her display is over there. Not even offering to help. So I found my husband and we walked over to JCP to the Sephora in their store. Right away Shima with full hands asked if she could assist. I told her I was looking for the Divine pallet and she not only looked she went online ordered if for me and answered all my questions. So if you are at Memorial City Mall skip the Stand alone Sephora and got to the one in JCP, much better service ask for Shima she was very helpful. read more

I'm a business professional and I was shopping in Sephora memorial city mall. I was trying on Fenty products. A lady approaches me and says that someone told her that I put a lipgloss in my purse! I found out later she was working as part of the loss prevention team. If Rihanna knew that a black person was profiled in Sephora shopping her products, she would not support the brand. This is another reason why consumers are buying more online versus shopping at retailers. I guess we will continue to see more big brands closing as customer service and human decency is not important to brick and mortar stores. Very disappointed!!! read more

Horrible management! I spend about $250-$350 on products monthly at Sephora! My last visit to a Sephora store was at the Memorial City Mall. I was harassed, accused of stealing, and humiliated in front of a line with approximately 15 people. After the lady that accused me of stealing realized i didn't, she changed her attitude and started becoming nice....well it was too late.. i asked for a manager from a different associate, once the African American manager came along and heard my story she offered a sample bag with a bunch of samples. Seriously? i don't want your damn samples, i buy everything i may think i need. Bribing someone with samples and not even apologizing is just ridiculous..Never shopping here again and will definitely let all my girlfriends know what kind of services this location offers... read more

I retrieved my forgotten password JUST to write this review. I went to this Sephora location this past Saturday afternoon, and their customer service was just HORRIBLE. A couple of workers literally just passed right by me when I'm sure I was CLEARLY obvious with needing assistance, holding my hand up like a little pre-schooler and what not, saying the words "I have a question please" several times. And just when I thought their services were already pretty sh*tty, the girl that helps me at the register was the icing on top of it. One, she didn't even greet me, she just grabbed my 2 items. Two, I was pretty impressed with her eye makeup and told her "I like your make-up, it's really pretty" (even after she didn't greet me). She then says "what???" like as if I spoke Alien. After repeating my compliment, she just says "oh..." and goes on. Three, she doesn't even bother to tell me my reward points (how much I have and what they currently offer to VIB members). So I asked her if she could tell me, and she rudely hesistates and says "Well, I mean, I can tell you but you'll have to give me your card again". And FOUR, even after I gave her my card again (which I had to wait until she finished ringing up my purchase to do so), she tells me the number of points BUT doesn't tell me what's currently offered! There was obviously a reason WHY I asked about the points; I was interested in the item they had cased in the front, which was why I wanted to walk into the store in the first place. Never again. I've NEVER had a problem with this great make-up store until now. Not saying I'll never shop at Sephora again, just not this location with RUDE workers. And trust me when I say that it takes a LOT to piss me off when it comes to customer service; I've worked in retail for many years, and I understand that it gets very hectic and crazy at times, so I tend to cut slack for those that are obviously not having the best of days. This Sephora location would be just like all of the others if it weren't for Miriam in the skin care section. She is always a pleasure to chat with and really asks the important questions about your skin type and needs before recommending a product. I was on a search for a new face mask and once I told her that I have Rosacea and super sensitive skin in general, she instantly tailored her recommendations and offered to make me samples of a couple of different options to try before I took the plunge on purchasing a full-sized product. Sephora has a wonderful return policy, but I really appreciated her offering to let me try a couple of products rather than having to make a purchase right away and possibly come back to have to return it. read more

This location is great in terms of the huge selection of makeup and skin care, however as far as customer service goes it's negative 5 stars in my book. I have been shopping at this location for a few years now, it was my favorite until two weeks ago when my husband and I went in there to get me some new makeup. Mind you I have spent well over $3,000.00 in this location alone in the last 12 months, so I'd like to think of myself as a good customer. So we walk in and start browsing and instantly get asked if we need something, no big deal... business as usual right? Right. Well as most women will contest to, this store is like a make up lovers candy land, so if you don't know what you are going in there for there is a good chance you are going to find yourself wondering around the store for at least 20 minutes browsing and sampling - just as we were that day. After about 10 minutes of being there I start to notice this same girl that has been keeping herself very close to us, obviously not restocking or organizing... she was watching us. We kept getting asked literally every 2 minutes if we needed help,, and not in a *great customer service* kind of way. Like in a menace to society "hurry up and buy!" kind of way. So we walk over to the skin care area and I'm looking at the boscia black moisturizer, which I ended up buying btw! So this older white lady with dirty blonde/light brown hair asks me if I need help, and after I tell her "no thank you" she proceeds to follow me all stealth like, well at least she thought she was being stealth. Then all of a sudden the same girl from earlier appears and asks me again! By this time I am pissed, because I know they are fucking stalking me because they think we are stealing. And I swear, not even a minute later my husband sees the older white lady associate tell the younger girl to "watch them". What in the entire fuck? My husband and I are so livid that he is literally seconds from talking to a manager, but instead we just spend over $400 just to prove to that dumb bitch that we do NOT need to steal. We are not children coming into this store to just play with the makeup, we are well paying customers! But my story does not end there! Yesterday my sister and I go in there and IMMEDIATELY we get approached by that young hispanic girl with long, straight, jet black hair. (the same girl that was told to watch my husband and I) She asks us if we need help... no big deal. Then she asks again, and again, and follows us to skin care, and then follows us back by Kat von d, we walk over to urban decay just to see if she is really following us, because I had started to tell my sister about our previous experience. Well low and behold, guess who creeps her ass around the corner? Her! She asks me once more if I am still looking, and I answer rudely "oh my god yes" and she walks off. So I'm not sure if she realized she couldn't follow me anymore after that or what but all of a sudden I hear a black male associate that was mostly in the urban decay, laura mercier section that day say over his little ear piece... "these two right here?" Now I could just be assuming that he was talking about us, but after everything else I've experienced I would think that it would be a safe assumption. My sister and I look at each other like there is no fucking way this is happening right now. Next thing I know I notice a different associate out of the corner of my eye just standing about 4 feed to my right. I casually just glance her way to make sure she was in fact staring at us and no more my eyes meet her for a split second she walks over and asks if I need something. The shit got so fucking uncomfortable that I finally just grabbed the two items I knew for sure I wanted and went to the check out. I felt so unbelievably violated and harassed. I was almost in tears because it just upset me so badly. I fought the urge to call and speak to a manager but my luck the manager will be one of the bitches that stalked me out. However after writing this and getting that feeling again, I am calling them tomorrow! Sephora if this is what you call customer service or QC... you need to rethink your strategy, because stalking customers and harassing them is more of a turn off than pleasant. Especially when your employees are making your paying customers feel like criminals! Also I have read other reviews from this location saying the same thing about getting accused of stealing. I really don't like giving bad reviews but the experience was frustrating. Was gonna give only 1 star but decided on 2 (to be fair) because Sephora really does carry an abundant of assorted items to meet almost every need. Their main problem with this location is the service. I totally agree with another yelper here who had the same problem. It's frustrating and annoying when you know what you want to buy and a "know-it-all" sales girl stalks you through the store discouraging you to buy. Customer service here is ALWAYS FANTASTIC. I always enjoy my visit here, especially compared to ULTA. The employees at this location have been nothing but amazingly helpful. When ask them for advice they respond with a smile and give me their honest opinion and show me where the products are. My recent visit, one of the girls actually offered to apply the make up for me so she could match it. This type of service I have never seen at ULTA. Definitely two thumbs up from me! I love Sephora! And that is not why I am writing such a horrible review. I had a wedding to attend today and I wanted go not stress so much about it which is why I decided to get my makeup done here, by someone who will do a lovely job I'm sure. Well was I way wrong. I made the appointment a week ago or so. I don't remember the lady's name who did my makeup but it was a Hispanic girl with purple hair. She seemed really nice and I loved the way she FINALLY was able to find a perfect foundation shade for me. So I was going to wear a light pink dress with gold accessories so I wanted my makeup to be a very casual pink look. I showed her the picture of what I wanted and said that I would like the same colors (keep in mind they were light pink with gold glitter). She quickly looked at it for 1 second and said okay. I didn't mind thinking she knew what she was doing so I decided to trust her. So she came back with all of the things she need which was the foundation, highlighter, etc. I loved the way she did my foundation. I have a lot of pimples and horrible uneven skin tone and she was able to cover all that up! I closed my eyes for the eyeshadow and I didn't open them until it was done. I could not believe what I saw. It was a dark deep purple shade with silver glitter. I was horrified because I didn't have much time to redo everything. The picture was clear as to what I wanted. I looked horrible and felt like a drag queen which was the complete opposite of what I wanted! I didn't have time to redo it which is why I went home and had to do my own eyeshadow as quick as I could. It was a horrible experience and I will never trust Sephora to do my makeup again. I wish I could have taken pictures to show you guys but I just couldn't even bring myself to. I'd give this location absolutely no stars if possible. Having only shopped online most of the time and not wanting to pay shipping for a single lipstick, I decided to patronize this Sephora. It's a Sunday and unbeknownst to us, they were closed and didn't open until 11 am. However, there were numerous people in the store and the door was open, so my sister and I walk inside. We were greeted by a lady, presumably the manager, that told us that they were closed and we needed to come back "later" almost pushing us out the door!!! I commented it was only 5 more minutes until open and why was the door open and she rudely shut the door on us. We walked around and came back, precisely at 11. This rude "manager" sees us but poignantly avoids opening the door! It is now 11:04 and the door opens and I try to come in but it's a cast member who informs me "we are still closed, I'd have to ask the manager to let you in" and shuts the door. This manager STILL SEES US and doesn't open the door! It's pretty sad she's so uppity about it not being open 5 minutes before open but now that it's open, she won't open the door? Finally, she opens and doesn't even greet us, just smirks at us as we walk in. Lousy people, wasn't offered any samples at checkout and I personally think I'll continue to purchase the products I want directly from the companies and no longer support Sephora if this is the kind of customer service one receives upon entering the store for the first time. Some of your beauty consultants are very helpful and pleasant to converse with about makeup and skincare products. I wish I could remember the consultant's name who took the time to (try) to help me locate the much coveted Rainforest by the Sea eyeshadow palette by Tarte. However, I did make an effort to remember the name of a very rude and snobby consultant, Bobby, who was short and snotty with the helpful person trying to assist me. He was also rude and short with my sister and me. I guess maybe he was having a bad eyebrow day?? Those tend to make me a tad bit cantankerous as well. I last shopped at this Sephora probably a year ago . I walked in and went straight to the perfume section. No less than 30 seconds later I felt someone staring at me. I looked up and saw an employee kind of stalking me. She finally asked did I need help after standing over me for awhile and I told her no. She wasn't satisfied with my answer so she got on her walkie-talkie and alerted another employee to "keep an eye on me" and described the color of pants to her. She clearly thought I was trying to steal because of my ethnicity and age since there were plenty of other people to harass. I have to give a star or I wouldn't. The last two times I've been to this location the beauty consultants have been horrible. Both of these times I felt like nothing more than an inconvenience.
