I have had a large lipoma on my chest just below my sternum for at least 20 years. In the beginning…read moreI didn't know what it was, and it wasn't causing any pain so I didn't mess with it. I asked a few different doctors over the years what they thought it was and since it was relatively small and didn't hurt they were very dismissive of it. A few years ago it started growing and becoming more of a problem. It was uncomfortable, and even painful if something came into contact with it. I have a toddler who loves to wrestle and every time she would bounce on my chest it would hurt. I never had this problem with my others kids who loved to play the same way. I went to the VA to have it checked out and they did an ultrasound and confirmed that it was a lipoma. They refused to do anything about it claiming that it was cosmetic, even though it was growing and causing pain. Don't get me started on that one... After going to a private dermatologist I was referred to Northern Arizona Plastic Surgery where they were very quick to get me in and taken care of. I was a little nervous about getting cut on, but after talking with Dr. Cripe I was confident I was going to be taken care of. He has those intangible qualities that inspire confidence and made me feel at ease. For the procedure itself he used a decent amount of lidocaine to make sure that I wouldn't feel any pain. I would imagine that removing a lipoma is quite a routine procedure, but this one was not. Mine was rather large (bigger than a golf ball) and had gotten attached to the fascia which required quite a bit more work. On top of that there was a small hernia underneath the lipoma that he fixed as well. Initially the lidocaine didn't numb the nerves associated with the hernia and I was able to feel some of the cutting and stitching being done. In the past I have had a dentist tell me that there was no way that I would be able to feel what was going on despite me informing him that I was in pain. Dr. Cripe was nothing like that at all and was extremely accommodating and got me numbed up and finished the procedure. There was even some decent conversation throughout. For having something cut out of my chest I would say the experience was as pleasant as it could have been given the circumstances.

Although we loved Dr Cripe, his office staff have been very challenging. We saw him a month ago,…read morewhen he recommended a procedure. Since then, we have left messages every few days for the scheduler Jordan, who has NEVER called us back. Several times we also called the main office and left a message with them; no response. This procedure will have to be pre-arranged as there will be a recovery time. I will highly recommend Dr Cripe, but I will not recommend the office.
