I'm a secret beauty buff. I don't wear a lot of makeup, and eyeliner scares me, but my goodness do I love to treat my skin right. I'm trying to be nicer to my hair, too. Sephora may be best known for its amazing selection of makeup and fragrance, but lately, they've really been killing it on the skin and hair treats. Sephora used to be the kind of place that has some ultra-luxe items that are definitely in the "treat" category, but they've been adding more and more brands that are a bit more budget-friendly while still offering great results. I scored myself a big bottle of Moroccan Oil (treat) and a couple of items from the new-to-me TheInkeyList brand. This brand uses ingredients that you definitely won't see in your typical drugstore brands but keeps the prices lower. Bonus: they go on great and work well. Absolutely stop by and look at their serums. Helpful staff and a clean and well-organized store make this location one of my favorites. (This location always keeps their testing stations well-stocked with applicators, tissues, alcohol, and makeup remover, too.) read more

The lighting at this Sephora location is unlike any other I've ever set foot in across the Twin Cities or the United States in general. It's so dark and dreary that it's quite impossible to compare colors and undertones properly. I generally avoid it for this reason, as the dim lighting is a hindrance enough that I can't discern swatch differences despite holding the palette of colors on the back of my hand up to any brighter source of light possible. A lot of people like to vary their makeup looks, and I enjoy appreciating their creative personal expressions of beauty. I prefer only to subtly enhance my natural looks, so I'm specifically seeking only most natural color possible. I take my time comparing products in being very deliberate in anything I do. With beauty products, I test new bestsellers in every beauty product type against my current kit once annually. I do the same with digital apps and programs twice a year. As I'm starting to become more active as a model again now, I'm fleshing out my kit again for the first time since pre-quarantine. One of my last products to find is a longwearing liquid lip product, which I narrowed down to two products across six colors to test in the store. Southdale was on my route, so I stopped in and was able to narrow the six down to three. With the lighting at the Southdale Sephora making the comparison of subtle swatch differences entirely unreliable, I asked to use my allowed three samples to be used for the three lip colors I'd narrowed down to from the palette of rosewood, tea rose, and nudes still swatched on the back of my hand. The Sephora teammate was visibly unwilling though verbally stating otherwise - before suggesting that I use the lip swatch applicator sticks to sample the three lip colors and bring outside to sample. Let me get this straight: You're actively suggesting that a customer swatch a lip stain product on three open-ended sticks to walk outside with. Questions: 1. The lip product is so known for its staining power that it comes with a warning, and you knew it had staining qualities as it was part of our conversation. I'm wearing white. Are you covering the cost of cleaning should a customer get bumped and get the staining product on their clothes on their way out? 2. The walk from the storefront to the parking lot is 5-10 minutes long. Long-wearing liquid lip products are known to be fast-drying, and the movement of walking plus the time between applications dry each one that much further, thus affecting test application, appearance, and wear. How did this factor into the logic of suggesting applicator sticks? 3. Testing immediately outside with no makeup removal product in hand to wipe clean between tests, the residue of each last color would of course affect the next. How is this conducive of proper sampling procedure? 4. Part of the intention of this sampling was to test the longwearing claim of the product and see how each of the three compare against each other. How does swatching one right after the other in a parking lot allow for practical wear testing? This is not the first time Sephora has been awkward about sampling. I've witnessed plenty of representatives assisting guests and being very passively aggressive about the practice, and that's across the nation. That said, this experience of mine was paired by far the most ridiculous reasoning I've received or witnessed yet. Sephora, if you don't want to offer samples, it's simple: Don't offer samples. If Sephora locations actively make customers feel unwelcome for asking for samples that the Sephora brand so proudly claims is a part of the brand experience, expect customers to have a major problem with this consistent incongruence in brand identity and the disconcerting treatment that has me looking elsewhere for ongoing subscription purchases for all products that become part of my kit as my response in voting with my dollar. That's bad business for Sephora considering that the brand carries over 50% of the products in my kit in stores and over 80% when ordering online. read more

I went here and I had the privilege to be helped by this lovely lady named Tasha. She helped me find the perfect product for my hair and was super kind and payed attention to detail. But, when I went to check out, I had the unfortunate encounter with this ancient woman named Victoria. I think that because I am a teenager she had some sort of pre-existing hatred for me. I was checking out and she barely spoke to me at all, just glanced around the store and mumbled instructions at me, when I asked what she had said she just raised her voice in a extremely disrespectful way and said "Answer the questions" Then when I handed her my cash she reluctantly took it and spoke zero words. I stop in this Sephora once in a while to grab something I need because it's close to my daughter's school. There is never anyone at the checkout counter when I go. Today I waited with another woman behind me. The people working there were just gossiping on the floor. I got their attention then the woman was so slow and she bagged my items by throwing them in the bag. So ripped the receipt out of her hand when she gave it to me. This location is slightly smaller than other Sephoras I've been to but they still have a huge selection. There are always people ready to greet you and throughout the store to help or answer questions. I really like the Sephora brand of products. The eyeliner specifically is my favorite. I have had quite a few different eyeliners (even super high end brands) really negatively affect my eyes, stinging, redness, etc. But the Sephora brand eyeliner looks great and never irritates my eyes. One thing that was disappointing was the Bare Essentials section was a lot smaller than it used to be. read more

The line was well past the checkout queue while some of the young women were just standing and chatting with each other - not working with customers or helping check people out. After almost 15 minutes in a line that was going no where, I left my products behind and left. Exceptionally poor service. I can get my product elsewhere. read more

A store employee with long, brunette hair and red balyage rang me up but before she did, she made it known she was extremely put out by having to ring me up at a side register, as the main register was taking a long time. She said neither a word, nor thanked me, nor asked me if I wanted to redeem points for a sample OR get my birthday gift. This young woman was a serious grump who shoved her abundant negativity and unflattering attitude onto me! No thanks, honey. Sephora manager: Train your staff to have etiquette and be halfway polite. I am never going back to that location...EVER. I can get more samples and redeem points online and I don't have a rude attitude to contend with to make my shopping experience below-par. read more

First time after a Sephora. A flaming employee just walked by me without a hello or anything. I chose some liquid eye liners and brow pencil by myself. At checkout I was asked if anyone helped me and I said no and guy just walked by me. I signed up for a rewards plan and got some freebies and birthday gift freebie. I don't wear much makeup. This place is like the Target of beauty. You walk in thinking "I just need to get more mascara" and you walk out in a daze realizing mascara is not the only thing in your bag. You approach and something with catch your eye, you will approach it find yourself enter the black hole of discovering new things you just can't live without! In all reality, this place is pretty great. They carry all the brands and have a great assortment. The staff is always very friendly and willing to help make recommendations for you. While it is dangerous to enter, it is always a great experience during and after (as I type with my sheet mask on). read more

On 12/23/17 I came to Sephora to find a new foundation. Fabian I believe was his name assisted me! Fabian was very patient and he was very helpful. He took his time by asking me the type of skin that I have and how much coverage I wanted. The best of all he spoke Spanish which was incredible because I spoke spanish and there were a few items that I ended buying from him that we both new in spanish. "Am I being punished? " This is a sentence I uttered while being dragged to the Sephora at Southdale Mall. Honestly, you probably shouldn't read this review, because I know absolutely NOTHING about cosmetics. I'm still not sure what mascara is. Is it the blue stuff on the eyelids? Or is it the black pencil thing around the eye? Wait, that's called eyeliner, right? Um, what's eye shadow then? Holy crap, what group of people made all of this stuff up? #illuminati #neverknow I bet that if Sephora manifested itself into a physical person, my girlfriend would consider leaving me. She loves makeup THAT much for some odd reason, and I don't like it at all. I believe that "real hair and real eyes get real guys." (Shout-out to Common.) But I digress... The store is filled with almost every product imaginable (I think), and there are a bevy of staff members ready to explain and sell. While waiting for my girlfriend to purchase her products, I asked a flurry of questions to nearby and friendly employee. She thoroughly answered all of them with a smile; however, I obviously don't remember much. (Perhaps, I should have brought a pen and pad.) For a store that primarily caters to female customers, I felt very welcomed. If I ever decide to buy makeup for my girlfriend, I will definitely consider Sephora. This Sephora has all the brands that I wanted. I don't really branch out that much, but needed new foundation. I wanted to try the new Fenty line that was released and didn't know what color I should choose. Asked an associate to help and she said that she would as soon as she finished with making samples for someone else. Thank you so much! I forget how cool Sephora can really be sometimes, glad that I recently stopped in here. I tend to purchase the majority of my skincare online, and the little makeup I do wear I may purchase it in a department store. However I just felt like going in to Sephora on a mall visit one day, and asked for some assistance with purchasing a new powder. I forgot who had assisted me now, but she was so attentive to my needs and friendly. It was pretty cool, she used a small handheld electronic device to perfectly match my face skin tone with the EXACT powder that I should be using. (So cool!) Not only was the help attentive and friendly, but she was very educated about all the product lines! I was impressed! She also helped me with picking out a new fragrance - - again, keeping to the types of fragrances that I gravitate towards. Then when I was ringing out, the cashier had advised me because I was a member of their "Beauty Insider program" that I was eligible for a birthday gift too - since it was my birthday month. I went to Sephora with a friend of mine - she was looking for the perfect lipstick for her wedding day - Elyse help us out find the best make up, neither one of us knows a lot about make up so she walked us through different items that would be good for our faces - explained why you use both and showed us how to do it, she was not pushy at all. As someone whose obsession with makeup knows no bounds, I have hit (nearly) every Sephora in the Twin Cities at some point in time. All are pretty good, but this Sephora in the Southdale Mall is my absolute favorite location. All the employees and makeup artists I've interacted with here have been amazing to work with. From simple purchases and returns, to asking a million skincare questions, or getting a smoky eye demo- they're all amazing and willing to go the extra mile. One shining example sticks out- I went to get a new eyebrow product- and was helped by three different people pick out the right shade, the right product, and helped me apply it to see how it wore, gave me samples, and sent me on my way to find which worked best for me. My friend always raves about how great the service is here but I can't agree because every time I come here, the service is always horrible. The last visit here, I wanted to get my color IQ number and Hydration level checked. I did wait for someone to be available and as I watched the employee who was currently helping another customer, she seemed to have done a great job with helping the customer so I felt confident that I was going to finally get the same great service. Once she was done and I approached her, she was more than willing to do my color IQ and Hydration level, but that was it. Day went: 8/4/2017 Time: Around 6pm I was celebrating my birthday with a friend and so she set up a makeover appointment there. The one who helped me was a makeup artist name Jesus. He was so nice even though I really didnt know what kind of makeover I wanted. He was funny and kind and even gave me a free foundation sample. I hugged him! He knew what he was doing and explained very well about how to apply makeup and gave my friend and I tips. He even offered to help put on eyebrow makeup for my friend because she needed to find which one she wanted. Thankyou so much Jesus! I love this Sephora because the people who worked there were really helpful! The staff smiled and greeted us even though they were understaffed. My birthday passed a month ago and the cashier said if its a month now then I wont be able to redeem my free Sephora birthday gift, but she still gave it to me anyway T.T I am so sorry. Maybe I should know better because this is Edina... but then again, I've rarely has good service at any Sephora, so it's not just this one, tbh. I stopped by on a weekday afternoon as I happened to be driving through the suburbs for a work event, and was ready to drop $$$ on some Giorgio Armani foundation that some influencer was raving about. I browsed on my own for a bit; there were just a couple other customers and we were outnumbered by staff. Two of them just stood by the station near the entrance, chatting away the entire time I was there (probably about 15 minutes). No one greeted me and a third staff member walked right past me to ask a different customer if they needed help. I eventually flagged a fourth person down who helped me match the right color, but then she just wandered away as soon as she finished. Maybe in the future I will paint VIB in eyeliner on my face so they pay attention to me. read more

I've been to plenty of Sephora locations without any sort of experiences standing out, but I have to give this location props because the store manager (?) Jill was really helpful and informative. I was looking for a Bumble & Bumble product that was online but not yet in stores (hence 4 stores, not 5 - though that's not necessarily staff's fault) and she found me a comparable product, gave me a sample, and wrote a message and her name on the little bag.
