Dear Sephora Customer Service,
I am writing to express my profound disappointment regarding the handling of my daughter's wedding makeup appointments at your store. What should have been a memorable and exciting experience became one of unnecessary stress and frustration due to repeated mismanagement by your staff.
My daughter had scheduled and paid for a bridal makeup trial one week before her wedding, this past Sunday July 26, 2026. When we arrived for our appointment, the manager was unable to find her name on the cosmetologist's schedule. After several minutes of searching, a cashier finally located the appointment. We were then told, "Oh, we were supposed to call you. The artist can't come in today."
While we were understandably disappointed, we accepted that unexpected situations happen. The manager was pleasant and arranged another appointment for that same evening.
The makeup artist who met with us that evening was pleasant. She was professional, talented, and took extra time to listen to my daughter's wishes. We were thrilled with the results and confidently booked her to do my daughter's wedding makeup the following Sunday at 11:00 a.m.
Before leaving, I specifically asked if I needed to go to the front desk to make the appointment or pay in advance. The makeup artist assured me twice, "I've got you." She was entering the appointment into her calendar while we stood there, checking her schedule and confirming the time. I again asked about payment, and again she said, "I've got you. You can pay the day of." Based on those reassurances, we left believing everything was confirmed.
On the morning of my daughter's wedding, we arrived on time, Starbucks in hand, excited for the day ahead. Instead, we were met with another shocking surprise. The manager called another bride by a different name and informed us that she had the appointment with our makeup artist. When I explained that my daughter had booked the appointment the week before, I was asked whether we had received a confirmation email. We had not--because no one ever told us that one was required or that we should expect one. How could we know to question something we were never informed about?
The manager apologized repeatedly, but apologies could not undo the stress and disappointment of what happened on my daughter's wedding day.
What made the situation even more upsetting was that the makeup artist eventually arrived, saw us standing there, and couldn't even bring herself to make eye contact or acknowledge what had happened. Instead, she immediately began helping the other client. That lack of professionalism and accountability was incredibly hurtful.
This experience reflects serious failures in communication, scheduling, and staff accountability. One mistake can happen. Two mistakes involving the same customer--especially for something as important as a wedding--is unacceptable.
I work with high school seniors and young adults every day. I have often recommended Sephora services in the past, but after this experience, I cannot in good conscience continue to do so. I will instead encourage my students, families, and friends to consider other businesses that value communication and customer care.
I hope Sephora will review what occurred, address these scheduling practices with your staff, and ensure that no other bride experiences the disappointment my daughter endured on one of the most important days of her life.
I would appreciate a response explaining how Sephora intends to address this situation.
Sincerely,
M. Meyer read more
