I had scheduled make up appointments back in Feb for myself and my sister who was mother of the bride, her daughter marrying that afternoon of 3/28 The morning of the appointment 3/28 a voicemail was made at 9:30am stating Margaret K make up artist for Sephora was not coming to work. At the time of the call we were 2 doors over at a blow out bar -under hair blowers - getting hair done. By the time we heard the message we were left with no options - I had shared the day before when I called to confirm the appts that we would be at 9am 2 doors down getting hair done for a wedding- no one took note of that- A real client experience is to listen to the client. Final frustration is employees at the store "make up professionals " didn't offer to assist in picking foundation , lipstick makeup & gave zero recommendations. A simple "we can call another store ...." We traveled from out of state , therefore not familiar with area . Although the employee was kind, sincere and friendly it was a very young minded group with little critical thinking skills. I needed my makeup done for my engagement photos at the last minute and Sephora was able to do my makeup so well! The day before I booked an appointment online- $60 for a full face of makeup (1 hour). I showed up with my hair done for my pictures and got seated fairly quickly. The person who did my makeup did a scan on my face to see what type and shade of skin I had and then got to work! She was very thoughtful and knew I was hiking to take pictures 3 hours later and that my makeup would need to last that long. She explained what she was doing and what products she was using. At the end I wanted to buy the lipstick she used On me so I could reapply during pictures- she did such a good job choosing a shade for me that it is now my scale it's lipstick! I felt beautiful and I am excited to see how the pictures turned out. read more

Had a bad experience at Sephora today. My daughter got a gift card for the holidays and brought it in to use it. She brought it up to the register and started to scrape it off. Some of the numbers scraped off. The clerk at the register called over the manager who said that the gift card was invalid and couldn't be swiped either. My daughter was in tears and the manager said that the only option was to call customer service. Customer service said that if the card was damaged in any way, the card was invalid. I am frustrated that the card was invalid and that the manager was unable or unwilling to off my daughter anything even though employees watched her scrape it off. read more

This location is starting to make me reconsider my love affair with Ulta, MAC or Planet Beauty. Amanda was incredibly sweet, she nodded her head when I picked up the Original Beauty Blenders, the knowledge of finding me a perfect, new foundation and concealer from Urban Decay or Too Faced. I ended up NOT purchasing them just because I want to finish the remaining of my sad cosmetics I desperately want to get rid of. The lighting, the music, the faces and everything was very much energetic and made me want to stay there 4ever. My cousin ended up purchasing a new foundation. Something customized for her skin. There is a lot of selection here. Some of my regular brands are here in addition to in their own dedicated shops. I shop both, depending on the circumstances and selection. Compared to shopping in the cosmetics department in the nearby department store, these days I'd so much rather shop at Sephora. They are more likely to have a color I need in stock. There are self serve options. There is always quick and friendly staff. I will continue to shop here when I need to. The dedicated brand stores can be better informed on their products and have a bigger selection so I will continue to use them for special products. But I think I'm pretty well done with the department store option. read more

You just came out of the MAC store with your new black IPod, and then she says, "Oh great, just follow me real quick, I want to show you something." Before you know it you guys take a quick left into Sephora's and you are looking at blush brushes and blue eye-shadows...And your girlfriend is starting to get upset because she keeps asking you "what's wrong" and you keep saying, "nothing." She might drag you to the back to look at the men's shaving creams and fancy lotions. What do you do? Here is the strategy: If you want to stay on good terms (and you all know what I mean by "terms") then just follow her and pretend like you care... just let her pick something out for you, because the truth is she knows she is in the wrong and she is going to buy it for you anyway. When she starts examining your skin to figure out if you are dry, oily, or a combination skin, immediately tell her that you are combo.... (This will cause her to not look at your face long enough to start pointing out scars or pimples.) The next step is the hardest.... I visited this store recently to be color matched for NARS foundation and concealer. The first blonde woman matched me to the shade "Punjab," even though it was much too dark for my skin. She didn't care, was on her phone the whole time, and agreed with everything I said. When I got home, I saw the shade was completely wrong and had to go all the way back to exchange for the right color (Fiji, lol). A different auburn colored hair artist helped me. They were out of my concealer color. Not only was I made to feel bad because I was being an "inconvenience" for shopping here, staff was incompetent and unprepared to do the basics-help me find a shade of foundation that isn't orange. This review is based solely on getting my makeup done there yesterday. I had my engagement photo shoot last night and I figured the way I would feel best would be to get my makeup professionally done and my hair professionally done. The reason this is getting 2 stars and not 1 is because all of the staff there was extremely nice. The appointment slot on the website said it was a 45 min appointment so I made my hair appointment ( right down the street) for 15 min after the appointment would supposedly be over. I was extremely frustrated with my makeup artists time management i got there 30 min early to see if he could start early, and he did! We started about 15 min before my time slot which was great! What was not so great was the fact that he took an hour and 45 minutes to do a makeup job that I actually hated and wiped off as soon as I got home. I know its always a gamble to get your makeup done the way you like but my makeup turned out NOTHING like the pictures I showed him. He knew I had an appointment to go and still lacked any sort of urgency. I was 35 minutes late to my hair appointment where they almost couldn't take me which made me 30 minutes late to get home and leave for the engagement shoot. This day was supposed to be laid back and make me feel special and I left Sephora in tears and stressed. Needless to say I will never go back to a Sephora to get my makeup done. The store is the only cosmetic tent in town. Sadly. The stock is stacked. Pretty much all the big names in make-up and skin care are represented. But, to be clear, those names are NOT represented because the staff of this particular SEPHORA is appalling. Truly, the worst. I am a well-traveled man. I'm unique in that I have visited make-up and skin-care counters all over the world. Trust me, I know what I am speaking to here. This store is fundamentally flawed. The salespeople are either bored, disinterested or uneducated in the products they're supposed to recommend to their clients. I've received virtually none of that. And it's happened over and over again. A REAL cosmetic counter builds relationships. A REAL cosmetic store is generous and knows how to make a client feel special, seen and served. This SEPHORA does none of those things. It is not cheap. You'll pay the premium, the highest price in any retail store, without top drawer customer service. I have 2 children. Both are girls. One is 9. The other 17. Each has divergent tastes and needs. In a couple dozen trips to SEPHORA, I have been treated with respect, genuine interest, informed customer service, generosity and gratitude ONCE. ONE TIME! Today I had to purchase Gift Cards for the girls for Easter. I mentioned that I would love any kind of perks they could conjure up in the form of testers for their Easter Baskets. Those types of trial size cosmetics and perfumes cost that company nothing. ZERO. $0.00 I was greeted with generosity by one woman at the register. She gave me some odd testers but I wasn't going to stare a gift horse in the proverbial mouth. I forgot to get 2 Gift Cards and had to go back in and purchase another. This time, I was greeted by a miser who was just punching her cash register and her clock. I had just spent a few hundred dollars there. Some Easter "candy" would be delightful. She tossed a few inappropriate products on the counter for mature skin. When I said they seemed unsuitable for the girls she said, "Everything else is for Birthdays." I asked if she had some perfume testers. She literally said to me, "I can't give you any of that. I can't open the perfume bottles and pour them into anything!" "Next!" WHAT??? I was shocked. The saleswoman directly before her had slipped some vials of test perfumes in my bag earlier. I've been gifted with perfume testers since I was 17 years old in the 80's. MADNESS! So, look, if you go, please just ask for a senior team member or manager. Otherwise, you'll get a cold fish that doesn't give a flying cotton ball about you. And that removes all the real joy from purchasing premium cosmetics. Cosmetics are intimate products. Demand service and respect. Maybe we'll meet when SEPHORA has washed up and been replaced by a real cosmetics store. Til then, mark my words. Be beautiful but beware. read more

This visit was literally the most disappointing experience at any Sephora ever. I have been a vib rouge for years - this time I walked in with a friend who had never been to a Sephora, but spends an assload on makeup at Ulta. I promised her a fun experience and she really wanted to learn how to apply fake lashes. Firstly, I had to fight to get any attention from the eight or so employees who were milling about and gossiping in little clusters all over the store. Only two customers were in the store other than us. Two of the employees saw me coming their way and literally turned on their heels and walked briskly away from me. Finally, a sweet junior assistant came over. I told her I was a VIB Rouge and would like help with lashes. She then radioed and said someone would be right out. We waited several minutes by the beauty bar, only to have her come back (obviously embarrassed) and say that in fact, nobody could help us. In fact, of all the employees hanging out with one another in the store, none would make themselves available to even touch up our makeup as we were on our way out to a work dinner, let alone teach my friend to apply her fake lashes. We walked out without spending a dime. Sephora corporate should take a hard look at Boulder. It's a terrible shopping experience and the employees are pretty much unanimously jerks. I came here to shop and was looking forward to a fun evening of shopping until I was treated like dirt by employees with a very bad attitude. I decided not to buy anything because of it. No Sephora you are not all that! I can buy my makeup online besides everything will soon be online anyways in case you haven't noticed shopping malls are more and more becoming a thing of the past. Hostile and dismissive customer service. We are seeing customer experience quality declining all over the country. However, I personally I can't shop here in the Boulder store anymore. I realize that people can't support themselves on a full time retail job. But I run into the store when I have to a couple of times per year. These past few years, it's always an upsetting experience as to how I'm treated. It used to be a good experience to shop here. I think retail management is missing something. Maybe creating extremely high sales expectations along with AI monitoring employees productivity, yet not training and valuing their employees. Thus employees don't value customers. This Leads to low morale and hostility and low retention of employees and customers. I agree with another reviewer's observation too, employees gossip in small groups and seem rushed and pissed off when they have to help a customer. I also, like the other reviewer, try to be empathetic and positive toward the employees but they are still hostile. I have a love-hate relationship with Sephora. I love browsing and looking girly, I hate making decisions and high-priced makeup. More often than not, I end up going in 'just to browse' and walk out with stuff I don't (really) need. They have an awesome selection for a small(er) store, but I feel like they're in such a prime location that they could be bigger (and thus carry more brands). But seriously, for a beauty junkie, they are the go-to place in Boulder. Not only do they have make up, but fragrances, skin care, hair care, and beauty tools. If I'm in the market for something obscure, I can probably find it here. My main problem is with the service. I'd say it's more miss than hit. I've had bad experiences numerous times where I was wandering in search of some guidance and the sales girls were standing by the entrance chatting amongst themselves. I mean, I know selling make up is, like, hard and stuff, but, like, could you, like, bother to check on your customers, like, once in a while? Sometimes the girls bring you to what *they* think you want and then go away. Other times, you get someone that actually cares about your needs and takes the time to talk with you and find you exactly what you're looking for. Those are the times that make Sephora the amazing store that it is. Prices are what they are for high(er) end makeup. If you shop around (within the store, of course), you can definitely find things within your budget. Check out their store brand - it's awesome! Sephora's 'makeup artists' have this firm belief that I, a blonde so blonde I am practically albino-looking, need a makeover that involves spackling my face so heavily that it looks like cracking pavement when I smile, painting my eyelashes black - not brown, but black - and ringing them with very dark eyeliner that they don't bother to even attempt to blend, making my eyebrows stark and powdery brown, and giving me golden pink lips. And this after I say, 'I just want something natural looking that brings out my eyes a bit.' Now I know that Sephora is not a beauty salon, so doesn't deserve to be judged on its makeup artists (I hear you thinking it!)... but I do think that if they're going to offer these free makeovers to demonstrate the quality of their products, that they should get some 'demonstrators' who actually know what they're doing. Perhaps the golden pink lipstick is fabulous and totally works on me, but I'd never know it with the disaster happening on the rest of my face! So that sell just fails. That said, if you know what you want and you're a fairly seasoned makeup-wearer, Sephora is paradise. It's huge and well-organized and has everything from super-high-end, who-actually-buys-this-shit, $400 face cream... to decent $4 eyeliner. The salespeople are exceedingly helpful (until you let them give you a makeover) and will help you find the precise thing you are looking for, and there's 'Try Me!' stickers on virtually everything. So you pretty much can't make a mistake. But if you somehow do, there will be no sneering or eye-rolling when you try to return something. Trust me. I know. (I was fooled by the hard sell, okay? I thought that heavy black eyeliner looked good on me. It does not. I asked strangers and friends. It does not. All I really had to do was look in the mirror. So I took it back.) read more

I buy way too much stuff at Sephora. I'm 29, already have dry sensitive skin, and hate the havoc Colorado sun and dryness is having on it. I swear I look my age here. (In the bay area, I looked 5 years younger at least, argh). So Sephora has been my go to for good moisturizer, makeup, perfume atomizers, anti-aging peels, eye cream, etc. I'm apparently one of those people who spends a lot on my skin because I'm constantly getting free stuff and discounts on Sephora. I love trying out new scents (i collect perfume), and new products. It's a smart marketing ploy because I do buy some of the stuff I try in full size. Honestly had a pretty bad experience here on my most recent visit, very rude staff, seemed irritated by my presence.. I attempted to lighten the mood, get a laugh, but tough crowd here... Previously Ive had good experiences with employees that do an amazing job helping me match a foundation, however whoever helped me last time really left me with a sour taste :( I am horrible at figuring out what foundation matches my skin so I go in for the help, but on my last visit whoever was helping me rushed the process so much, seemed irritated when I asked any question, and gave me foundation and concealer that COMPLETELY does NOT MATCH. Also, I asked if there were extra ingridients in the matte version of bare minerals loose powder and she said no quickly, but I looked it up and there are. I only went in because I wanted the foundation that is super clean and wouldn't break me out but now I have a product that doesn't match and has silica in it which I'm trying to avoid. Regardless, I put it on when I got home and looked like an orange. The powder is closer to my skin than the concealer but both abssolutely do not match. Frustrating $60 to spend, if I wanted to get the wrong match I would've just ordered it online... and probably would've gotten closer!. I should have known not to buy it since she was unthorough and rude, but I gave the benefit of the doubt assuming she just had a really good eye for it. Big mistake! The staff walked by me like the plague. Plenty of normal human interaction and eye contact from other customers but noooott the staff. They must have had some issues with people getting samples too often or something, cause when I asked...it was clear that I was catching someone else's heat. The irony here is that I have bought colognes for a long time and have taken up making them as a hobby. I thought it would be fun to go in and test some new scents and maybe even chit chat about fragrances. Man was I wrong. This location specifically cannot color match women of color. I've had to go back twice to return a foundation because it doesn't match. I try to not get the same make up artist to do a color match and they continue to put a brown color on me and call it good. Do not go here if you're a woman of color. The women just try to sell you foundations and put whatever orange color that won't match your complexion on you. So I normally go to the Sephora at flatirons and every two weeks I was coming in and blowing lots of money and they would know my name and help me out and make amazing recommendations even though I would return or exchange things because my skin is so sensitive. But I heard about the Estée Lauder foundation and they only sell it at the boulder location (which is really sad because I live in Thornton) so it's a 45 min drive but it's absolutely worth it because my sensitive skin loves this foundation and the girls here are so helpful color matching me and I love how here they really do offer samples on about everything to try it out before I buy it because of my sensitive skin. read more

One woman looked at me to make sure I wasn't stealing but never asked if I needed help and when I tried to get her attention she acted like her phone rang?! Feeling pretty alone, ANGIE came right up to me when she came back on from break with a smile and answered all of my questions and more. She showed me how to use the product I was curious about and I bought more then I would have if she hadn't come along. My mom and I came into Sephora to grab some dark spot corrector by Clinique and a worker came up and told us about a better deal and brand that she had tried herself. She showed me how to use it and even gave me a sample of vitamin c powder to mix in with my moisturizer. It was a better price and I'm so excited to use it. Anyone who makes comments that suggest Sephora caters and bows to the young only has a huge chip on their shoulder. Its obvious based on the diverse age group employed at this store and the level of service I witnessed when I was there that all kinds were getting that this store wants to give it's customers the best service available. I found their express eye consultation to be gorgeous and I learned how to do a smoky eye. The artist was fun, easy to learn from, and didn't pressure me into buying but definitely gave me options should I want to buy! I was even given a free sample without even asking for it of an eye cream! I have been to this store many times and I have always had nothing but great service and friendly employees in what has to be the cleanest Sephora I've been in! BTW, I am in my 30's. Don't forget to pick up some skincare while you are there! It's all hiding in the back half of the store where it's easy to miss! I love this store!!! read more

LaVanda was the color consultant who was wonderful. She listened to exactly what I wanted and used products that suited what I would ACTUALLY use in my day to day. LaVanda styled my makeup and gave me great tips that will be really useful to me. She also discussed different colours and ideas that I might be interested in and accentuated my normal style to give me something a little different. She did not pressure me to buy anything however I ended up spending a couple of hundred dollars. And there were a few things I had never considered and am now thinking I might try out. Everyone at the store was super friendly and welcoming and although slightly overwhelmed by the selection the consultants were all so helpful. They LITERALLY NEVER have anything I go in there for. These are all products that they allegedly carry, but they never have them in stock. I've been trying to shop here since they opened, and I've never once been able to get what I came in for. And I'm not talking one or two products. I've tried to get over a dozen different things to no avail. Someone in management needs to get their inventory in order. Quick. Today was the last straw for me. The Sephora in Boulder is dead to me. I find the staff here surprisingly helpful for a Sephora. I don't think I've ever been ignored, brushed aside; no one has been rude either. I'm pleasantly surprised that they hire such helpful people at a chain store. read more
