I have seen this place every time I pull out of Trader Joe's and always wonder if it's any good. Being that it's in this dumpy little strip mall, I prejudged it and thought it would probably suck. Yesterday we're debating on where to grub. As I'm going through Yelp and mention Senor Pepper's my husband says, "Have you ever been there?" "Nope." "I'm down." And we're off. We get there and it's okay looking on the inside. The menu is hand painted on the wall and a little difficult to read so the cashier handed us some take-out menus with prices on it. They have tacos, sopes, nachos, burritos... all of the basics. I decided on a chile relleno burrito and a medium Diet Coke. Hubster got the macho nachos and a medium Mr. Pibb. I was a bit shocked when the cashier said $17.50 but hoped that it would be worth it. We sat down and waited for our food. It took about 10 minutes for our food to be ready. Both of us immediately thought, "THIS is it?!" The burrito and the nachos looked rather small for their hefty price tag. The ingredients were very fresh and everything tasted pretty good. Not the best I ever had, but it's definitely a "I don't know what I want for dinner" kind of place. And even with our initial reaction, we did get full. Their prices are a little high for what you get, but if you don't mind spending a little more for some fresh food, go for it. The reason I gave them a 3 was because their food was decent. I couldn't go up one more because as we were sitting there eating, the two workers decided to take a lunch break and sat down to eat right next to us and have a loud conversation. That wasn't the part that bugged me. The part that irked the crap out of me is that the phone rang and NEITHER of them got up to get it. Luckily, the person on the other end finally hung up after the 5000th ring. I even looked at them and they just kept ignoring it. Whittier actually has a lot of fairly decent taquerias, but most of them are on Whittier Boulevard towards the 605. If you're in East Whittier, your best bet is Senor Pepper's, a tiny little placed wedged into one of Whittier Boulevard's ubiquitous strip malls. The food is very flavorful, and I've liked everything I've eaten here. The service is good; and the owner, who usually works the cash register, is very sweet. I've always seen this place while driving on Whittier Blvd. and always wondered if it was any good. Well today I decided to walk in and give the place a try. I was the only customer in there and I was greeted by a very nice lady. I ordered their wet burrito special with carne asada and let me tell you, it was one of the best wet burritos I've had in a while! I was really impressed! Another thing that surprised me was their fresh salsas. I've never had good tasting salsa like that before and you could tell it was homemade. Ridiculous expensive for poor quality Mexican food. We hoped the high prices meant good quality food. =( My group was very disappointed with our order: a wet asada burrito, macho nachos with asada and a steak fajita salad. We couldn't believe how bland the food was. Plus the asada was very chewy because of all the fat on the meat. They did have delicious iced tea, but I only had a few sips since my cup was completely filled with ice. Drinks are not self serve, so they charge for refills. $2.25 for an horchata-$1 for a refill The cashier was so busy talking to the cooks that she'd have other customers walk behind the counter to refill their waters themselves. My brother waited at the counter patiently to ask for a take-out box while she continued to chat away. He finally got their attention, so a cook walked over and handed it to him. With the price we paid we could have had a tastier lunch at El Torito with free refills and table service included. (And I'm not even a fan of El Torito!) read more

I've been a regular here for many years and always get the same thing. Wet veggie burrito. I'm vegetarian and it's hard to find good vegetarian food. So when I'm in the mood for a burrito this is my choice to stop. I also love the fresh salsa. My carnivore friends tell me the meat is spicy but I can't say. Unbelievably delicious salsa. I am a salsa junky and their house salsa makes everything else I ever eaten seem bland and stupid. The beans were amazing as well. I could live off of those beans and salsa and be happy for the rest of my life. My daughter got the fish tacos and she said that it was light and spicy. I had 3 rolled chicken tacos. The chicken was moist! Usually, most places dry it out. The guacamole was just "ok". I added some of the house salsa to it and it brought it up to par! Support this place. We live nearby and will order out from there from time to time, but no more. Recently ordered various things and nothing was even really good, just OK, except my burrito which was awful. I ordered the pork green chili burrito, all meat. No beans and no rice. Cut into the burrito and hit a big piece of pork fat. I cut it open looking for a piece of pork that did not need to have the fat trimmed and absolutely every piece of pork was cut with more fat than pork. We all decided there were plenty of other places nearby, so never again Senior Pepper. read more

This used to be my "go to" place for quick Mexican food! Not anymore! The prices went way up and the customer service is terrible now. Long waits for to go orders, always messing up my order. Really sad. This used to be awesome. Tonight I ordered for my folks to surprise them and after throwing out $55 for 3 people, I got home and my order was wrong. I called to let them know and he told me I had to bring back the food and he would make it again. Frankly, I don't have another hour to waste, waiting for them to get my order redone. It's actually clean I always judge how clean a restaurant is by they restroom , and Señor Peppers has a very nice restroom and smells clean. Service: okay, I guess Food: I got the green salsa burrito sauce had no flavor & the beans seemed to be out of a can , I would say probably 2 tablespoons of meat & lots of unnecessary onion. Chips were below okay & SALSA was below okay also. The water that they offered was actually pretty drinkable compared to other places (thumbs up for that!) Price: I spent 9.70 on 1 burrito & chips I think that is about 3 dollars over priced since the food isn't good . There is a very good reason why this has been a Whittier casual-dining staple for years, many actually: ingredients are wonderfully fresh, meats are top quality and cooked to perfection, their grilled fish tacos are the BEST in town, delicious guacamole. The fajita salad is a great lo-cal option and their homemade cilantro-lime vinaigrette is original and tasty as dressing gets.
