Unbeknownst to us, we happened to come here on Victoria Day, which is a pretty big holiday in Canada and when we arrived, the parking lot and restaurant was PACKED and bustling despite it being a Monday. When we arrived, the restaurant was almost empty, with only a couple seated at two tables. I was there with my family, including my girls. Despite the large number of empty tables available, the waiter wanted to seat us at two small tables. Considering that we were eating as a family, with children and several dishes, we politely asked to be seated at the space near the window with three tables so that we could eat more comfortably. Our request was not only denied, but denied quite roughly. The explanation given to us was that if six people arrived, they would need that table. We responded that, in that case, they could simply join three of the many other empty tables available in the restaurant, but they clearly did not care. What was even more disappointing was that the woman who appeared to be the manager also showed no concern at all. There was no effort to accommodate us, no flexibility, and no consideration for the fact that we were there with children. We felt completely disregarded as customers. From both a customer service and business point of view, this was extremely poor judgment. When a restaurant is almost empty, refusing a simple and reasonable request for comfort makes no sense. Good service is not only about serving food, but also about treating customers with courtesy, common sense, and a willingness to make them feel welcome. Because of the way we were treated, we decided to leave. We left convinced that we will never return, never recommend this restaurant, and never order from this place again. At first I thought it was push cart dim sum, since I saw a lot of push carts and a standard checklist where servers mark down for item sizes. Sadly I found it a minute later that the menu is online and I order it from there. They have the standard har gow, siu mai, beef tripe, etc items. One thing that I was happy they have was laosha bao (custard lava buns), my favourite dessert bun item. Their standard items are decent, though pricier than I expected. Wasn't a fan of their shrimp paste cuttlefish (there was barely any shrimp paste). Loved their laosha bao though. Service was good, they informed us that we pay for our food at the cashier up front. So, it was a must try! Glad we stopped by and would recommend it for a try, especially if you are looking for a convenient bite while on Ste. Catherine Oeste. (Note - Did not get the chance to check out other steamed rice roll places in Montreal, but will definitely do on my next trip.) About the restaurant experience... while they have printed menus, you use the QR code on the table to order, although there was a helpful waiter to assist. We ordered a fresh Shrimp with Chives and a Roasted Duck with Chives Steamed Rice Roll. Peanut sauce needed to be ordered as an extra. They provide complementary hot tea. (You can also order a can of Chinese iced tea.) Yin Ji Chang Fen's rolls were delicious, especially the roast duck! The sauces added make the rolls even more vibrant. Note - Didn't get the chance to check out other Montreal steamed rice roll places, but will definitely do on my next trip. Also at one point back home, will also check out their N.Y.
