Truly disappointed was very, very excited to try this place for the first time as a Buddy was bragging about the pork chop. Needless to say I ordered the cod with what was supposed to be a hassleback potato. The Cod had absolutely no flavor whatsoever. I gave it a one star just because presentation was beautiful, but that potato was so dry and overcooked no flavor whatsoever completely shocked at how bad it was. Now onto the real horror story my wife's pasta supposed to be a lemon infused. It tasted like it came from the garbage of the sea. It was so disgustingly potent. I don't know how anyone could eat it. My wife took a few bites and she's not one to complain, so she just took it home and threw it away but what a waste of money and time. Then the kicker John, the general manager decided maybe because we didn't order appetizers or desserts just $200 with the 4 of us for entrees . He told us you had a nice meal. Have a great night and basically told us we had to leave without telling us we had to leave. I don't think we had been there more than an hour. Very uncomfortable I will never be back personally. Went to Semolina on a weekday night recently and they were able to accommodate us without a res. Our server was delightful and so sweet. Since it's farm to table, the menu changes frequently. We got the crudo for our starter and it was very refreshing. For entrees, I ordered the cavatelli and my husband ordered the rigatoni. The rigatoni was delicious! I was hesitant bc the sauce was sweet red pepper based but it was very savory. The cavatelli was okay, it was a dry pasta dish I wish it was a little saucy. Nonetheless we had a great experience! A really cute Italian restaurant. They use ingredients from many local farms, fishermen and businesses. The ingredients tasted really fresh! They served fresh bread in the beginning. The bread was delicious. The fig and beet salad was really refreshing! My favorite was the Caesar salad. I loved the dressing and enjoyed the little anchovies on top. I would definitely get it again to share. We ordered the carbonara and tagliatelle which which were good. They had nice flavor and we enjoyed the pasta, but was a little underwhelming. We also ordered the halibut dish to share which was delicious. It was moist and flavorful. For dessert, we ordered the Zeppolis to share. It was a nice treat, but we would probably order another dessert, like the evoo cake. It is a little cramped inside and can be really loud. We love the farm to table concept, and love that this restaurant highlights numerous local businesses from which they source their ingredients. The restaurant is comfortable and intimate, although the noise level can be a bit high. The service was excellent! We had a refill of the warm bread, which turned out to be a different type of bread. Both were amazing. The salads we ordered were fresh and delicious. Loved the flavors on the beet salad (goat cheese). The pastas are house made. Of the pastas we ordered, we enjoyed the tagliatelle; the carbonara was a bit too al dente (a little undercooked). Overall it was a great night! Farm to table restaurant, who doesn't love that! When you arrive for your reservation, everyone in your party must be present for them to seat you. We ordered, lemon pasta, Mafaldine pasta, mushrooms and radicchio salad for appetizers. The mushrooms,lemon pasta and salad were my favorites. 4 of us got the pork chop,one swordfish and one lamb shank. Everyone enjoyed the entrees, I personally loved the pork chop, it had amazing flavors! Dessert, one olive cake,one lime cake and one Zeppole. The lime cake was too sweet,zeppoles were good but could have been cooked a tad more, they only left one so they must have enjoyed and I didn't try the olive cake but seems like everyone liked it. We had a reservation but had to wait 20 minutes to allow two senior ladies to finish up. We started with the charred spanish octopus which was very good. I had bluefin tuna, three healthy slices of seared tuna so tender i cut it with my fork. My wife had a huge grilled pork chop from heaven with red cabbage and a bacon jam. For dessert, an excellent panna cotta with fresh figs and candied hazelnuts . They also had an interesting list of pastas that we will try next time. We have eaten here a bunch of times and previously I would have said this place is a solid 4-4.5 stars but something was different on our last visit. We had one of the regular servers who is usually really good but they continuously made "jokes" that were condescending and off putting to the women at our table. Feeling so rushed to order, we even got a "60-second shot clock." The restaurant now almost forces you to finish in 90-minutes NO MATTER WHAT! Entrees were served before we finished our appetizers and they walked by trying to clear the table 3 times when we were still picking and chatting amongst ourselves. It just really kills the experience, and when we left there were 2 people waiting... it's not like we were taking up someone's table. I felt like I broke the law staying for 1hr 45 minutes vs the 90 minute mandate. Guys, we left that behind with Covid, years ago, or at least EVERY other restaurant did, just not here. We ordered the burrata, the ruvolo, scallops, pork chop, tagliatelle and short rib. The pork chop is always good, no complaints. My wife enjoyed the tagliatelle as well. But everything else was average in our opinion. The burrata just didn't work, none of the 4 of us cared for it and it's cheese, hard to mess up. The scallops definitely needed to be seared more, the $45 short rib is a piece of pot roast... and the ruvolo pasta was not great although a neat concept. $278 for 4 people no alcohol, it needs to be better at that price point. Not sure what has changed but we won't be rushing back any time soon, which honestly is a bit disappointing because we have always spoken highly of this place, but can't anymore. And check the recent reviews on google, many, many people saying the same things... you'd think they would listen to their customers at some point. Semolina is one of our favorite date night spots! Everything is seasonal, the farms where everything is sourced is even listed by name. Love the frequent menu changes, love the food even more! The appetizers here we could honestly skip, a few good ones, but not why we keep coming back. The pasta and the entrees are the star here and that's what you want. I've been to plenty of places where the appetizers are amazing, and the entrees are terrible. They always have atleast 6 different pastas with different accoutrements. Freshly made, they even have a pasta shop right next door. Pasta is top notch. The pork chop is the house specialty. I've never gravitated toward ordering a pork chop at a restaurant, but we usually take the staffs recommendations the first time around. This place has THEE best pork chop you will ever eat in your life. My wife and I each get a pasta dish for ourselves, and split the pork chop between the two of us. Trust us on this. You won't be disappointed! We've been back half a dozen times and the place is always consistently good. Definitely recommend Semolina!! read more

As the night went on Jillian and her teammate continued to attentively serve us the wine we brought in, assure our waters were filled, empty plates cleaned and all needs were met. They also make all their pasta in house. The carbonara, one of their dishes that is always on the menu, is tasty but over time the bacon bits can make the dish taste too salty. Nonetheless, the duck egg yolk on top was a welcomed treat in the carbonara. The panna cotta was good but if you don't like figs then it wouldn't be the dish you would want to try. This restaurant has a pretty good reputation but I don't know why. It's small so I understand why they're a bit hyper about reservations, but we were a party of four, with a reservation. Two of us arrived first and they wouldn't seat us until the other two arrived - in an empty restaurant. Once seated, our server was very attentive. She took our drink order and said bread would arrive soon. Warm bread arrived - five slices for four people! We were also given a tiny saucer of olive oil for the bread. Each couple ordered an appetizer to share. We had the Jersey heirloom tomatoes - which were too soft, didn't seem fresh. Entrees then arrived. The two servings of pasta were quite small and the one that was said to be bucatini wasn't. The other two entrees were both bay scallops - 5 scallops for $45! - undercooked and lukewarm on arrival. I saw Semolina on another Yelpers reviews. It looked so interesting especially because Semolina is farm to table. When we arrived I just loved the cute atmosphere of Red Bank. It's such a cute town! (obv I'm not from around here) We arrived at the restaurant and were seated right outside on the walk way. We were kind of in the way of thru traffic but thankfully in wasn't so busy. It was though a tad uncomfortable. We looked at the menu and was told they change the menu items very often. Which is refreshing to know. We picked a variety of dishes to try. To start we tried- The BABY BURRATA with snap peas, mint, radishes, n'duja vinaigrette. I must say everything on this dish was super fresh. The burrata was creamy and delicious. The veggies were crisp and the seasoning went so well with everything on this dish. It was light and summery. Next we tried a unique dish AGNOLOTTI pea & cashew filling, snow peas, coconut butter. This dish was light but creamy and such an interesting combo. I really enjoyed this! By the way all macaroni is homemade. Which is great to know. They put so much care and effort into their dishes. We also tried another macaroni dish CHITARRA "CARBONARA" applewood bacon, duck yolk, cracked pepper. This dish was super decadent and filling. We by far enjoyed the agnolotti better! For dinner we tried out the Blue Fin Tuna with a Fava Mousse, Fava Beans & a lemon salsa verde. This was light and refreshing. The tuna was cooked and seasoned perfectly. We loved it! For dessert we shared the Sea Salt Caramel Budino with Chocolate Crumble this was lightly sweetened. It was creamy and rounded out the meal perfectly. We really enjoyed this. Straight up...giving this place anything less then a 5 is an incredible disservice. I took my wife here last night for her birthday and after eating here, can't believe we found such a find so close to our home in Central Jersey. As others have mentioned, this place is "Italian...ish" farm-to-table style food where the ingredients are fresh and treated with respect and it shows as the dishes are truly greater then the sum of their parts. In all honesty when I asked for the ingredient list in certain items due to how much I liked them, I was blown away when I heard that some things only had 2 or 3 things in them when the flavor was much more complex and suggested that a litany of ingredients would be used. Down to the brass tacks of what we ordered: Shaved Brussel Caesar: Absolutely the best rendition of this dish my wife and I have ever had. Full Stop. The flavors were spot on and the texture was perfectly crisp and not overly soggy or mushy as you sometimes get in a salad with too much of a clumpy dressing. Luckily for me my wife is not an Anchovy fan so I got to eat all the pieces myself. Burrata: The Burrata was heavenly and paired very nicely with the spaghetti squash and sweet accents that came along with the dish. A great fall pairing of a sweet delicate cheese and traditional harvest accompaniments. Mezzaluna: This one fell a little flat which was a bit of a disappointment but still was really good overall. The flavor and filling was on spot but the pasta cooked a bit unevenly between the thinner edges and the thicker stuffed center. A tiny bit better execution on the cook would have really made a difference on this one. Tuna: Simply sublime and the best dish of the night which really is saying something. I don't know how the Korean style broth was only soy and sesame oil but I honestly wished I could have had a bowl of the broth as a soup to start with....sodium levels be damned. The fish was seared perfectly well and the flavors and texture on the mushrooms, bok choy, and celery really helped bring the fish and broth together in harmony. Zeppoles: My wife is not a dessert girl by any stretch of the imagination.....but she can't turn down a zeppole when she sees one. Luckily for everyone, this is the best version of a zeppole we have ever had and fittingly it was eaten on the first night of Hanukkah (Italian sofganiyot anyone!). The Zeppoles were light and airy and not greasy whatsoever and the sweet apple butter on the butter cut through the fried dough perfectly. The only sad part about this place is that since they revamp the menu on a weekly/monthly basis, I am sure I won't see many if not all of these items again. I feel 2 might be too harsh so 3 it is. Food - we had a burrata app. Is was very average . Main course- I had the LEMON MALFALDINE - I thought I was going to love this dish however i did not like it at all. I felt the pasta was overcook and everything was mushy and bland. The burrata was rich and creamy, served over honeynut squash - a true delight. I loved the pork chop, it was thick and juicy served over bacon jam, honeynut butter, and sweet and sour red cabbage. My lovely lady enjoyed the Casonsei stuffed w/pumpkin and had great things to say about it. The pear tart was light and refreshing. Venture to central jersey frequently for work. Every time I am here I make sure to come here for business meetings and personal dinners. I have never once had even a slightly off experience. Waiters/ waitresses are always attentive and knowledgeable, without lingering too long. Food is always phenomenal. I've only tried 2 restaurants in Red Bank and this was way better than the other restaurant. Food tastes cleaner overall. More simpler. MEZZALUNA: It was ok. I wouldn't order that again. It tasted like a shrimp meatball. It had some kind of sweet sauce that tasted like gum/candy/licorice tasting. Tuna: too salty. If you like really salty food. In terms of flavoring it was flavored well. It needed rice. Or pasta to go with it. It came with kimchi. I'm not a fan of kimchi. Again I wasn't surprised. Anything with a soy marinade or broth is gonna be salty. This is their Asian fusion inspired dish. Monkfish: I liked this a lot better than the tuna. It was much lighter. I do like cauliflower puree. It came with char tipped mushrooms. The mushrooms tasted slightly burnt. The fish itself tasted fresh. It wasn't overcooked. It's pan seared so it's not oily.
