Short version: I spent $600 on two pair of jeans and had the sales guy measure them and send them in to be hemmed. Both came back too short, but they refused to accept them as a return since the jeans had been altered. WHAT?? The measurement and alteration were both done by them, but they can't be responsible for their own work? I went through a frustrating and infuriating round of emails with the owner, who apparently is not local. Such an insane way of doing business.
Somewhat longer version: in addition to having them measure and hem my jeans, I went on the salesperson's advice and fit, which turned out to be a bad move. I was told that both pair would stretch considerably in both the thighs and the waist, and the person helping me told me that the size that was too tight in the thighs would become looser and a comfortable fit. After having this first guy measure them and send them in to be hemmed (I asked for the hem of the jeans to be resting on my shoes, not highwaters and not baggy), I came back to find that they were far too long. The hem was down under my heels on both pair when I tried them on. When I showed them to the salesperson (a different guy this time), he shrugged and said he could send them in again. I again told him how I wanted them to fit and he quickly measured them.
When I came back the second time to pick them up again, they were shorter than I had wanted them. I told the sales guy this, and he said that the jeans would stretch with wear, not only in the thighs and the waist but also in length, and that they would become the right size. I foolishly believed him and proceeded to wear both pair repeatedly despite the fact that they were too tight and too short. After roughly fifteen wears each (hey, I like to be thorough), including biking and walking and wearing them to work, one pair showed no difference whatsoever. It had not stretched in the thighs, waist or length. The other pair had stretched slightly in the waist but still not to a comfortable fit, and were still far too tight in the thighs and still too short.
I sent an email to the shop detailing all of this, assuming that they would stand by the advice of their salespeople and alteration work. I was quickly disabused of this assumption. The owner, Kiya, was immediately defensive and condescending, making it clear that it was my fault and assuring me that all of their jeans do in fact stretch as I was told. I sent photos and again patiently told him that I went on the advice of his employee and that the measurement and alteration had also been done by the shop. I told him that second salesperson had done the measurement, and I related what I had told him I wanted for the length. Kiya told me that he saw in the notes that the employee said they had been done correctly the first time but that I had insisted I wanted them shorter, so the salesperson begrudgingly complied, none of which was true. I asked him if he was actually suggesting that I had told the employee that I wanted them this short and that the employee went ahead with it knowing that he would be ruining them. He never answered that, instead just going into this passive-aggressive spiel about how I should try to see this from his perspective and that he's trying to run a business. I eventually just gave up, as it was clear it wasn't going anywhere.
There were numerous other issues that clearly showed how poorly this business is run. I had denim repair done a couple of times and in both cases it took far longer than I was told. Once they had taken the wrong number for me, and the second time it took calling them several times, stopping in a few times, being told I would get a call back by a certain date, etc, etc. There are other denim repair places in town that are cheaper and faster, so there's no reason to put up with this kind of runaround. Just poor business practices all around, from the top to the bottom, and it's clear that they don't care much about their customers.
I considered taking them to small claims court over this, because really what other option did they present me? Ultimately I decided to cut my losses though. Never stepping foot in this place again. read more
