I'm writing this as someone who started shopping for our home renovation. Their customer service is excellent. My husband and I went on a Saturday and only had time to visit 3 other places. They were by far the best. While small, their showroom of quartz, tiles, and sinks were super helpful. I had been to Home Depot and Lowe's but wasn't happy with what I saw. It was here that I made my decision on what I wanted. The other thing that set them apart was that they weren't pushy. I've been in outside sales for most of my career, so I know what a really good salesperson should be like. Okay, fast forward...didn't finish my review, so I'm adding my experiences. Still stand firm on my review so far. Tom has become my reliable buddy and has been soooo helpful. I've even asked him for his opinion on my choice of paint colors to match my bathroom tiles and their accents. He's been great. I've dropped by so many times, I'm surprised Tom doesn't get tired of me. He's so patient and not pushy. He never made me feel like I was a bother (which I'm sure I was.) I worked with Lindsey to pick a large island slab for my kitchen renovation. He was super helpful and non salesy during our multi visit consultation. I ended buying tile for multiple bathrooms and appreciate the patience as I needed extra time to pick up my stone. I used Selective Stone a few months ago to purchase, sinks, faucets, a new garbage disposal and flooring sound proofing for a major renovation I helped my dad with. The manager we worked with was Tom Ching, and he was such a huge help. Normally Sales managers try to upsell and cross sell you things that you don't really need and we did not get that impression at all from Tom. It was actually a great learning experience on what to select for our bath and kitchen needs. Tom kept us from overspending on items that were not practical for residential homes and also was so cool to give us a 20 % discount on everything purchased for the bathrooms and kitchen as well as 10% off on flooring supplies. It was also awesome that we were able to return unused flooring supplies as we found that we had extras at the end of the floor installation. Once we placed our order we got the supplies within the week, so our contractors could keep on working. The selection of under mount porcelain sinks, under mount stainless steel sinks and Delta faucets was way larger than that of Lowes and Home Depot combined. I am a huge fan of under mount sinks because it's cleaner looking, looks better with granite, and is more sanitary (things/water just fall in the sink instead of sit there). Home depot only had one stainless steel under mount kitchen model available, which was surprising. Garbage disposals are not a glamorous purchase, but Selective Stone carries the Waste King brand which is the best bang for your buck and prices here were cheaper than at Home Depot. If we did another renovation we would definitely use Selective Stone and Tom again. Thanks for making my dad's house look and work great! read more

The man that helped me today, even tho that he couldn't find what I'm looking for spent with me approximately 20 minutes showing me all the options they offer. My request was unusual, but after a while walking with me all around their supplies he actually took his professionalism to another level and walked me to his competition across the street! Awesome! We are currently in the process of renovating our home. Our contractor recommended we check out Selective Stone for kitchen countertops and tile options. Very different experience compared to shopping at the big box stores: + Staff was pleasant, helpful and attentive, and the process is definately more personalized. Good luck getting someone's attention at Home Depot. + Nice selection of products for a smaller store. You would assume that a smaller business would not have as many or varied products, but there were surprisingly quite a number of tile and counter types to choose from. + Easy to find (located in Kalihi). - Prices seemed a bit higher here (based on our comparison shopping with 3 or 4 other business) but we were willing to pay more (and not compromise) for a quality product, that was exactly what we wanted, and was in-stock/on-island. In the end, we purchased beautiful quartz countertops for our downstairs kitchen and equally beautiful Italian porcelain tile. We are very happy with both and will certainly look at Selective Stone when we are ready to outfit our new master bathroom and living room in the near future. read more

We purchased the panels but the bathrooms weren't ready for install yet so they held onto the panels no problem until my contractor was ready to pick it up. Had to redo my Walk in Shower at home. Apparently I had a company Designer Trend Construction to do my bathroom, which cost a lot 8 years ago. I had a L shape bench in the shower. Water was leaking into the bench and filling up inside around 12inches, I have 18x18 tile. They didn't do a good job of sealing the bench. Wanted to thank my friend Mike who help me redo my bathroom. Took about two weeks. He suggested to go to Selective Stone, to look at some tile, of course we couldn't match the tile to the old ones, but did the best we could. Wanted to thank Tom Ching for his excellent customer service for helping us pick another tile and river rock tile. We had to order the river rock tile, Tom assure us within 5 days it would come in, came in 4-days. A few years ago we purchased marble tiles for our bathroom renovation. Our contractor's crew picked up the order and immediately we saw broken tiles. We called Selective Stone to let them know we would be requesting replacement tiles. Unfortunately, when we made the request we were refused. At least 40% of the tiles were either cracked or corners damaged. Our contractor brought our order back to Selective Stone who met with our salesperson, who was eager to satisfy our needs, but was being refused by the owners. It took quite a bit of arguing but they relented and finally and begrudgingly replacements were made. We all believe we were sent whatever they had in the reject pile. read more

The extra star I'm adding is for service. Great, friendly service. We are having a very trying time with our renovation at home, first with the very stressful experience with the cabinets to having to deal with mistakes made by the contractors. Just when we thought we were on the right track, we were so wrong! When the tile contractor went to pick up the flooring and shower stall tiling at Selective Stone, somehow the shower tiles were missing! These were specially ordered tiles that take time to come in... oh boy! They searched their warehouse to no avail, and well, there's nothing that could have been done besides reordering and waiting a month to replace them. Being that we wanted to keep on the construction schedule, we opted to choose a different style of tile. Here's where the service really kicked in. Everyone who found out about our plight went the extra mile. This really made a stressful experience turn into a positive one! I truly appreciate all the effort that they gave us. I lucked out when I found a pre-fab Carrara white marble panel for $350 here. It was perfect for my master bath vanity & my contractor had enough to create a make up counter for me. They have some of the best prices for Carrara White 12" x 12" tiles in Honolulu, which I bought for my master bath shower/tub and master bath floor. The one and only BAD experience I have had with my bathroom renovation. My installer was given the wrong colored countertop, and the backsplash didn't even match? The very worst part of the whole thing, is that the salesman Tom doesn't care! Three times he has told me that he needs to talk to his boss (Kevin Nip), and never calls back. Customer service was great before my purchase, but now that they realized they made a mistake - They're unreachable. The product selection for ideas is great. That's not to say the products will be in warehouse, but they do have a lot of books and some items you can touch. The sales people, lead time on products, vastly overpriced items, not so much. They don't stock much and also don't keep great records so getting anything twice is really tricky. And if you have basic knowledge about what you are looking for, you can order and receive without them and save about 25%. I know this is Hawaii, but fleecing is not super ideal anywhere read more

The selection and prices are pretty good, and they are very nice until they make a sale, but then good luck. They promised us supplies within two weeks, so we arranged everything with our contractor. When the supplies didn't come in on time, they made up stories which turned out to be lies, they ghosted us, and after six weeks and multiple rescheduling based on false information they were giving us we lost our contractor. Only when they would not return our calls to even get our money back we have to go in and ask for her money back. Since then I've heard many similar reports from contractors and homeowners about Selective Stone. I'll never do business with these people again. read more

During our renovations we ran out of flooring and they were able to get it rapidly and I was able to stay on schedule. then during phase 2 we picked out a particular counter top with a different company and when the cabinets were delivered we foundout the counter tops we bought and paid for were sold to someone else and no longer in stock - they wanted us to wait 2 more months. after getting our money back we went to selective stone and they had the same counter top and had it delivered and wonderfully installed in days! My husband and I purchased a condo that needed a complete remodel but we did most all of it from the Mainland! Our contractor has done many remodels and said that Selective Stone was the best place for our needs. How fortunate we were to have found such quality products but it was the professional and friendly manner that made this entire part of the project so stress free. Tom helped us through the process with selecting everything from our kitchen and bath tiles to the granite counter tops which look fantastic! But when it came to the kitchen backsplash Tom went over and above with customer service. With everything on a timeline Tom worked with the vendor to get the product shipped from another location to Hawaii in record time and cost! This was THE WORSET company I had to deal with during my minor construction project! I gave them a specific square footage for the material for tile work that needed to be done. The salesman told me I could return what I don't use as long as I wasn't opened except for bags of thinset. Not only did they oversell me in grout ($150) but they also over sold me in thinset ($60) leaving me with extra two bags. This company needs to learn how do math, take some customer service relations classes and stop lying to the customers to make a buck. I am completely disgusted at this company. My husband and I recently decided to renovate our kitchen and the person who is doing our cabinets suggested that we go to Selective Stone to pick out our pre-fab granite counter tops. We worked with Tom, who was very friendly and not overly pushy. He let us take our time looking at the panels. There's quite a bit of nice pre-fab stuff and the prices are decent. We paid $350 for each pre-fab granite panel. Tom also gave us a discount on the sink we bought. I love discounts. :) Parking is little difficult. Try to go early if you want to park close to the store. I would definitely recommend this place. read more

Been in our house for 4 years and have always wanted to replace our current granite for something more modern. We knew exactly what look we were going for and found Tom at Selective Stone. Fantastic customer service, he worked with us to find the right quartz material for our kitchen and bathroom makeover. They had the carrara marmi quartz stone which was the perfect white with some gray marbling. Tom helped us with choosing our new kitchen sink and bathroom sink and was extremely helpful, honest and through through our decision process. He even referred us to Stone Style workshop to do the demo, fabrication, installation of the countertops. So one stop shop, we got our materials (countertop, sink, trash disposal) and our labor all situated. Tom Ching was absolutely wonderful and made us feel very very comfortable with choosing Selective Stone. Great customer service, honest and fair pricing, grrat workmanship, timely delivery and installation and even a follow up to check on our satisfaction. Have done business with this store for years. Purchased porcelain floor tile from them 2 years ago. Am moving but loved the tile so called to purchase it again. I checked to see if they still had it (they did) and the price. It had gone up over 30% in 2 years so I commented. I received a call back from the salesman. He said the price was actually a little lower than quoted...still a lot higher. So began to look around. After checking other stores I still wanted the tile but now they had run out. It was one they always carry and were shipping more in. Lined up my tile guy for pickup when it was supposed to be on island and went down to pay half. Now the price was double! I reminded the salesman about our conversation. He remembered but said this is the price now! He knew my situation and that I couldn't walk away...too many things in motion with the renovations all hinging on the tile installation. I was totally ripped off. Selective Stone was recommended by our Realtor and contractor. Visited a few times before finalizing tile and counter top selections. Ended up buying tile at home depot as it was significantly less expensive there, but for counter tops, chose selective stone as I figured that with their already established relationship with our contractor, things would go extra smoothly. I was wrong. Final price for countertops was significantly higher than what contractor noted Selective Stone typically sold quartz to their customers for. Back and forth calls didn't help fix the anomaly, save for a small discount. Due to time constraints, I bit the bullet and went with selective stone generic quartz counters. Coming so highly recommended, I didn't bother asking about warranty until I'd already signed the paperwork. At that point, salesman advised that their one year warranty only covered single family homes. Installation in condos voids any warranty. Now I have $2000 (materials only price) of new countertops, no warranty, and the surfaces, which we use lightly, are already starting to get dinged and stained, a sign of poor quality materials. This is a disappointing experience with a company that doesn't back up their products. Wish I'd planned better and gone with home depot or lowes countertops. Similar pricing during sales, but quality that is trustworthy and 15 year to lifetime warranty, depending on brand. read more
