This place is really nice. Great craft beer selection, friendly staff, and a really nice, casual South Bay vibe. We've been there a few times and have enjoyed it every time. Last time we were there they had Modern Times from San Diego on several of their taps, and it was terrific. (The Blazing World is great). They also had a couple guys with a portable BBQ set-up selling food out back, and we got some pulled pork sandwiches that were delicious. Also worth mentioning is the excellent selection of bottled beer for sale (it is, after all, a Beer Store...). It's also nice to be able to get a couple pints while waiting to eat next door at the Mexican place; something we've done in the past. Definitely a great tap room in the South Bay. Highly recommended if you like quality beer. Along with some of the local brewers' tap rooms such as El Segundo, Strand, and Smog City, this place is helping to make the South Bay a great place for craft beer lovers. read more

I love these places where you can buy a single craft beer that piques your interest from the coolers! Like Sunset Beer in Echo Park, this place has a wide range of beers from around the world (tons of Belgians if you like that style). Pick a beer, they'll open it for you and you can enjoy it right on the premises. They have samplers and drafts on tap too if you prefer. No food, but you can have food delivered and/or bring it in. The staff is nice. I only wish there was a little more cozyness inside, it is very stark, i think the ambiance could benefit from a little more soft surfaces to flatten the noise/echo level and create more of a homey vibe vs the industrial one it currently has. read more

I moved to LA from San Diego last year. An avid fan of the beer scene down there, I made sure to do my research about good beer places in LA once i moved here. I know of a lot of little awesome tasting rooms dotted all around San Diego, so imagine my disappointment when I looked around LA only to find very few options that suit my taste. Sure, there are craft beer bars, but some of them just dont have the vibe im looking for. I wanted a small, intimate setting filled with people who appreciate good beer and are maybe interested in having a little beer-nerd conversation. I figured I was shit out of luck until I searched yelp one day and discovered this little gem opened up down the road from my apartment. Its like the heavens parted and someone pointed down and said "Hey asshole, quit complaining, I've got the place just for you"...whoever that rude gentleman up in the sky cursing at me was, he was of course referring to the Select Beer Store and Taproom. I strolled in there on a Saturday evening. When you first walk theres a few tables, tasting bar in the center, coolers of beer of the the left, and a bunch more beer on shelves off to the right. The floor plan is open, bright and inviting. Theres no loud music and no TV's so its the perfect place to try new delicious beers and talk about it with whomever your with, the bartender, the owner, or the dude next to you who is likely in there for the same reason you are: Because he or she loves craft beer. The ambiance of this place is great, its almost as if you're over at a friends Hows who has a stockpile of over 300 craft beers and you're sitting in his kitchen with 'em tryin' out some randoms and shooting the shit. Quite awesome and exactly what I was looking for. The tasting bar has about 8 or so taps (couldn't remember the exact count) and several small chalkboards over the bar displaying the beers they have on tap (which I love because it reminds me of a lot of the places in SD). To the left of the bar is a line of coolers stocked with a lot of really great beers. The selection is pretty damn good, it could certainly be better but come on...they JUST opened, I'm pretty confident this place will continue to grow and get some crazy awesome rare brew and eventually be your number one beer destination in the south bay area. Anyway, I digress. Back to the beer coolers. So, you took a look at the beers on tap and though " Hey, Im not really feelin' any of the juice on tap" Good news, big thunder, you can grab any beer of your choice from the coolers to the left or the shelves on the right, add it to your tab, and crack it open right there in the store. How cool is that? One other thing I liked about that place was the framed photographs of oldschool beer cans lining the hallway to the bathroom. I'm a sucker for vintage shit and a sucker for beer. Now on to food. You want beer AND food? Well, unfortunately they do not have a kitchen. BUT there is good news. I am told they are fine with you bringing food from where ever and enjoying it right there as you throw a few malted beverages down your throat. Select Beer, thank you for bringing an awesome craft beer experience to the South Bay Area. Its much needed. I hope you continue to grow and have beer tasting events and other fun things at your place. I will be back. many many many many times. read more

What is this magical gem???? It's a liquor store that acts like a bar. Or vice versa. Great beer selection and tables to sit and relax with friends and talk about Game of Thrones (or maybe that's just me) and enjoy your delicious beverage. This is really a great place. Though I live quite a distance away, I have heard about this place. So when passing through on a long, weary day, I decided a nice, refreshing beer was just the thing. But I was unprepared for the walls filled with hundreds of different types of beers, many in refrigerated cases. And from the tap, several unique sounding brews flowed. I started with a Smog City (what else?) and moved on from there. The liquids on taps range from tasty ales to refreshing lagers. Each one I had was great, and the bartender was quite helpful in recommending "the next one." When my wife arrived quite awhile later, I had identified a good one for her, which she enjoyed. They don't serve food, but you can bring in food from outside, and they even have menus from nearby restaurants. After watching someone down the bar grab a bite from the Mexican Restaurant next door, we Yelped it, and then ordered some food to go from there. Great beer, great food - a great end to a long day! Note that it may be difficult to find the place, as they have a PCH address, but are actually located a bit off of PCH. My wife got lost getting here. But once you find it, you're in for a memorable experience. read more

This place is a real diamond in the rough! My husband loves craft beers and the selection here is mind boggling!!! I ended up having to ask one of the workers for help in selecting some good beers for a Valentine's Day gift for my hubby. One particular young guy (regret to not remember his name) was extremely helpful and took the time to make my gift extra special for my husband. He gave me little extras like a pin, pens, and souvenir bag to go with all six beers bought. I noticed there were many customers inside just having a drink in the store. This is a pretty cool place next to riviera Mexican grill. They only serve beer so if you're looking for something to munch on go elsewhere. They have a huge selection of bottled beer along the left wall and they have maybe about 12-14 on tap. I tried one if their red ales I couldn't remember what it was called but it was great.
