If you love IPAs like I do, this is the place to be. They make some of the best IPAs, double IPAs and Triple IPA's. Some of their beers are hitting over 10% ABV and don't even taste boozy. They're delicious and full of flavor. Add that to their amazing staff who knows everything there is to know about beers and you can't go wrong. Pair a good beer with a food truck like Felice Italian Catering and it's a match made in heaven! That pizza of theirs. . . yum! Beers good, ambience is better. Locally known for years as the spot for excellent beer. All is true but with all good things there is one thing lacking and that's decent seating. Yes, there's benches and a small faux grass area. But these benches, let me tell you, are T.R.A.S.H.! As much foot traffic comes through here, it's down right disappointing and shows how cheap a business can be. Like I said, the beers good, but when you sit on benches that I wouldn't donate to a public school, that a big oh hell no. It's been like this for at least the last 3-4 years. this is kind of a hidden gem or a if you know you know kind of spot, it's tucked away in the back of a few buildings and the vibe is definitely cute. They have a food truck there, not sure if it's different every time but it's a cool little add on since monkish doesn't serve actually food inside- just beer. Their beers are really good as well I did try a pina colada seltzer and it got the job done haha but it was also pretty good. Perfect for a date, or to chill with friends! The outside area is quite spacious but I can see how it can get busy and crowded on busy nights. read more

I had heard about this place in the past from my friend who's a beer connoisseur as well as another friend who's visiting from out of town. I think that's just the perfect time to try it out! Situated in a quiet office complex zone, this place is truly give hole in a wall vibes unless you're specifically looking for it. The place is a mini beer gardenesque/brewery design. Not too loud, it's a good and quiet place to hang out with some friends after work or on the weekends. There's decent amount of parking up arrival. They've got a good selection of beer here from IPAs, pilsners, belgians, stouts. I got the little twin star stout and the feminist myself. Both of which were equally delicious but also dangerous at how smoothly they went down. The prices are reasonable too! The staff here are super friendly and chill, all about having a good time, within reason of course. There's regularly a food truck to pair with the drinks. I was pretty disappointed with this place. I really wanted to like it, but the beer just didn't deliver and the service didn't help. I asked if they did flights and was met with a pretty rude no. I then asked if I could do a taster and the response was again dismissive saying yeah you can try a couple. The attitude alone made me not even want to try more than one beer. I ended up ordering a full pour of the Feminist which was floral and pleasant enough but overall it was just average. I tried a second beer hoping it would change my mind but same result. Nothing bad and nothing memorable. The flavors were fine but felt flat and were missing complexity and layers. Honestly they reminded me of something Coors might release as a seasonal specialty. The best way I can describe it is the kind of beer your uncle from the middle of Michigan would rave about because all he drinks back home is Bud Light. What makes this more frustrating is that I know they are capable of better. I picked up several of their special releases during the pandemic from this very location and those were genuinely good. Whatever direction the brewing program is heading now just doesn't feel special or exciting. The space itself is nice. The outdoor area is solid and having tables inside really opens things up. I loved that part. But between the lack of enthusiasm from the person behind the counter and the amount of kids running around the whole place felt more like a daycare than a brewery. I wanted to sit outside near the greenery but I didn't feel like dodging children the entire time. With better service a more focused tap list and a calmer atmosphere I could maybe see this being a four star spot. As it stands it just didn't live up to the hype. read more

Monkish definitely has the small batch brew feel. Having lots of questions I decided on going with a 9.4 Belgius triple with hibiscus known as feminist. I have to say wow. This beer is definitely a troublemaker because it's so delicious and refreshing light that the ABV can really sneak up on you. And that it did. I think I drank it a little too fast because it really hit me in a good way. I definitely wanna come back and give the Sans Fuzz accept because I'm really interested in their Saisons. For their beers, they lean heavily on IPA but still have some pilsners, belgians, sours, and stouts too. They offer multiple size pours generally speaking. Decent size parking lot, although it does get crowded since it's an extremely popular venue. Friendly staff, reasonable prices, and definitely worth checking out if you're in the area. I will start by saying that I am not a beer drinker but I dabble with sours, seltzers, ciders, and saisons. My boyfriend is the beer connoisseur and we both have been to the Monkish in Anaheim when visiting my mom in Orange County. We love Monkish and we normally frequent the Anaheim location when in town due to proximity. Visiting the Torrance location was an unexpected treat. This location has a bigger outdoor area with seating but was very busy when visiting. We shared a table with a couple. I tried the saison and my boyfriend had the West Coast Jive--we both loved our selections. I'm big IPA beer fan and Monkfish has made great impression on me. So many choices...not only do they have ample selection of IPA, they have over 10+ Double ipa and 6+ Triple ipa, which is crazy. We got Glamora (Double IPA) and Compute (Triple IPA). Both beers were sublime. Colors were beautifully hazy and well balanced. I was surprised how smooth Compute IPA was, especially for 10% alcohol. Best triple IPA I've ever had. Another round boys! The vibe here is so chill. There is indoor/outdoor and covered/uncovered areas. We ended up sitting outside and sharing a seat with family, who were IPA drinkers as well. They also serve food and food trucks on property. So, I will be honest: Hubbers and I didn't come here primarily for the beer: we came through because Cousin's Maine Lobster truck was posted up in here for a few hours. A good brewery to come to for the craft beer lover. They don't really have any seats available indoors, it's just outdoor seating. Came here on a Thursday afternoon after errands in the area. Knew what to expect based on the reviews here on Yelp, and I'm adding my vote to the thinking that this is a great place to meet up with friends, enjoying the SoCal weather with some great microbrews. The parking isn't great, not really sure where you would park if their lot (with straight-in spots) would fill up, but we came before the rush so no problem. Most of their beers are IPAs (which I no longer am that crazy about), so focused on their other beers (especially the Belgians). They don't have flights, but instead a smaller 5oz pours. I liked the Feminist tripel ($5.5) with beautiful rose color from the hibiscus and the Keys to Heaven quad ale ($5.5). I did try the Island DDH pale ($4) as the least hoppy of the Pale ales. They had two lagers on tap: Mean Streak Pilsner ($4) and Moments Stolen ($5.5) which is a coffee porter. All five were drinkable, and Island would have gone great with something salty. The Pilsner is the beer to enjoy over a long afternoon session...the feminst and Keys will get you drunk quick. They have indoor and outdoor seating, and it's not that big so imagining it gets really crowded after work and weekends (though parking might limit the crowd a bit)...thinking this is the normal size of beer patios in California (used to Wisconsin where a beer garden in a brewery would hold 10 times as many). There is a TV in the inside part (which is just a converted garage entrance into the facilities), and smaller tables to sit by yourself if you want. The outside has larger benches, and saw various health professionals enjoying a beverage or two after, I'm sure, a long work day. Satay LA was the food vendor that set-up a table (not the actual food truck) near the tables. The food went really well with the beers. I LOVE Monkish! I'm a huge beer fan and this is the best brewery in the North Torrance area. BEER: They have a huge variety of beers, and a revolving beer menu which they update nearly every day on their website. I always try different beers, but my favorite to go is The Feminist. FOOD: Although Monkish doesn't serve food themselves, that always have a independent food stands every weekend. The food stand is always a local small business; we've had pizza, tacos, BBQ, ceviches/tostadas, arepas, etc. There's also Fabulous Burgers 2 min walk away. SEATING: Inside, the have a traditional rustic brewery seating. Outside, there's a bright vibrant vibe with tables with benches and umbrellas. They are pet friendly! We come here nearly every weekend, and it does get pretty crowded so I recommend coming during non-peak hours. There's also only 2 single room bathrooms so the wait can get a bit long when it's busy. Fantastic brews here... if you're a craft brew fan you're definitely already aware of Monkish. If not, you need to go here. It is a religious experience. They had around 20-25 beers on draft but the IPAs are king here. They really excel at the oat cream IPAs. Some of the most creamiest IPAs I've ever had, but still with a nice hop burn at the end. Yesterday was our 2nd time physically going to Monkish. Of course the beer was great and it's always nice to try styles outside of their infamous Hazy's. They have a small taproom with seating in the brewery area, but they have expanded to include a sizable patio area with umbrellas and nice plants. Staff is relatively friendly. Not over the top excited to be there, but pleasant enough. Their beer prices are a bit high, but honestly that's to be expected for not only such a popular brewery, but also for the area they're located. So that doesn't bother us, although it may bother other people I suppose. My only real reason for docking a star is the restroom situation. They have 2 one room all gender restrooms, but because of how busy they get you always end up waiting in line. My biggest pet peeve with breweries and even bars. Alcohol makes you have to pee lol so ample restrooms are always something nice to have. Overall, we love Monkish and enjoy stopping in whenever we're in the South Bay. read more

I was happily surprised by the music choice, there aren't a lot of places that play that. One of the bartenders told me that many of the beer names are from old rap lyrics and songs which is so cool! The best IPA's in Southern California always trying something new. Great Stout on the menu today. Also 2 lagers and 2 experimental beers. Loved the Black kisses took home a bottle also took home 2, 4 packs Diggin&Diggen and Foggier Window. Every time we visit there are new beers! Wildly popular for their hazy IPAs, Monkish is somewhat of a Southern California beer treasure. I'm a fan of their other styles as well, but the citrusy IPAs really put this place on the map. I would probably say this is one of my favorite local breweries, if not anywhere/all time. The folks here are always great (beer tenders/ workers/ management/ ownership) and I've had plenty of good experiences here. I've been going for years and I probably could have written a Yelp review at any point in time, but here we are. Heck, I've even been the Yelp 'Duke' of Monkish at various points in time. Not only do they produce/ provide top notch beer, but they have had great events/ mini festivals here - many of which I have attended. Their ticketed events are always high in demand, like the Sushi Social they had a few years back (pictured). I can also safely say that some of my best friendships in the beer community have came as a result from this brewery. Whether meeting people in the tasting room to meeting people waiting in line for their highly sought after cans, I really can't think of any of my beer drinking friends I've met that didn't stem back to this brewery in one way or another. Their one off barrel aged stouts are among some of my favorites with the original 'Gift of Death' I got filled in my growler was the first that absolutely blew my mind here. Their sours are also delicious. For me personally I can't drink too much sour beer cause of acid reflex, but found them to be great here when I have tried them. The sours were the foundation of what this place originally opened on in the first place. I definitely come here on a regular basis, whether to drink on the premises or to get beer to go. Currently, there is a nice outdoor drinking area that was built out due to the pandemic. Not that I needed any more reasons to love this place, but this place is also AAPI owned, so as a bonus, it checks that box for me as well. read more
