Very happy I found this Ethiopian market, you can find everything you need to cook Ethiopian food. They also have fresh enjera (sorry for the misspelling) very clean and organized, and the staff (may be owners) are very friendly and welcoming!

Ethiopian restaurants are my favorite. With time on my hands during this pandemic I've been watching videos of people cooking Ethiopian food. It's seems super approachable if you have all the right ingredients... Selam has all the right ingredients. It blew me away when one of the YouTube home chefs off handedly mentioned they buy injera fresh at the market. Game changer son! Game changer. They are practicing social distancing and was far less packed than the local Lucky market. Shop small and local :)

It's a nice size Trader Joe's and wasn't too crowded on a Saturday afternoon. I immediately found the shelves with new items and picked up a bag of yellow curry potato chips I wanted to try. I also got a small bag of Colombian dark chocolate sticks with crispy rice. When I tried both items later they were delicious. The dark chocolate is rich without being too sweet and has a bit of a coffee flavor that I like. The chips are addicting and a little spicy, but not hot enough to stop a heat wimp like me. They had containers of fresh strawberries, which I can never get enough of, so I put one in my basket. Then I headed for the sweet treats. So many to choose from. I grabbed a package of Meyer Lemon Cookie Thins and a little bag of mini chocolate chip cookies. It turned out they both tasted great, especially the lemon cookies, which would be even more delectable dipped in lemon curd. I usually like to look at the frozen food and pre-made sections, but didn't want to buy anything cold today since I had errands to run afterward. I'll be back soon to take another look around.

I came here around 1pm on a Saturday today and it was very very crowded. The bathroom was a little dirty. I was able to fill up my water bottle at the drinking fountain next to the bathroom. I was able to find every item I was looking for, and I was able to resist the gummy candies next to the register. My cashier was polite and friendly and made pleasant conversation and my bagger was friendly too. My cashier pointed out the location for me of an item that I couldn't find while shopping, which was very helpful. A woman dropped some cash in the produce area and I had to chase her down to give her the cash back. She did not say thank you. Overall, I can see why this TJ's gets so crowded. The food is really good and they have lots of fun stuff. I was even able to purchase some of the mini TJ tote bags here about a month ago. I like this TJ's much better than the other nearby Safeways. I get all my groceries from TJ's and what I can't get at TJ's I get from amazon. The toilet paper at TJ's sucks so I buy it from amazon, and some other things too. Another down side is that I have to park so far away from the store which is a drag. Today at TJ's I was able to purchase: kombucha, goat milk kefir, red bell peppers, hummus, bananas, green tea, irish breakfast tea, and chamomile tea, other stuff too but I won't list everything. I wish this location would give away more samples of food. It's not like they need to improve their business, they have tons of customers, but I think it would be nice to show appreciation for their customers. It's such a nice little bonus to get a free sample. I rarely, rarely see them giving out samples here. They have a sign outside the store saying no emotional support animals and no dogs in the carts. I'm glad they are enforcing that because I think it's disgusting to see a dog in the grocery store. Don't get me wrong, I love dogs, and I wish I could have one, but I just don't think the grocery store is an appropriate place for them.

The guy at the seafood counter (very tall). He's super friendly & helpful. You can tell he loves his job (apparently he used to work at The Fish Market). I hope he stays there! No matter how busy they are, he's always there to help you with a smile. There's another lady too, she's got curly blond hair, short (or maybe she wears it up) and she works in the deli, or at least she used to. I haven't seen her recently, but she was always super nice as well. Pro tip, look for their deals! Sometimes their pizza will be really cheap from their frozen section. They also have deals on their rotisserie chicken. They switch up the days though and I believe Fridays they have a pizza special.

This store somehow manages to carry half the inventory of every other Whole Foods and then confidently leans into the "every store is different" line like it's a personality trait. Yes, I get that stores vary -- but this one feels like it's running a minimalist experiment the rest of us didn't sign up for. Friendliness is not an option. And let's talk about $1 Oyster Fridays. The oysters are there. The shuckers are there. The vibe? "Absolutely not." They flat-out refuse to shuck them for you, which feels like selling pizza and refusing to slice it because "every pizzeria is different." The real kicker, though, is the energy. The staff acts like friendliness is an optional add-on that didn't make it past budget cuts. I'm not asking for a standing ovation when I walk in -- just basic, Whole Foods-level pleasantness. That's kind of the brand, right? I'll still shop at Whole Foods. Just not this one -- unless I'm in the mood for oysters I have to shuck myself and a side of attitude. The staff at Almaden are All Rockstars!!

I had already called and gone in person to two other Safeway locations, and even though they had plain cakes sitting in the display case, they told me they couldn't decorate one because those were "for orders." I understand it was last minute, but it felt like no one was even willing to try. When I called this Safeway location, the woman on the phone kindly told me they didn't have any cakes with flowers or a spring theme ready. She must have heard the disappointment in my voice because she asked me what I was looking for. I explained the situation and the kind of cake I was hoping for. Without hesitation she said, "You know what? I'll make it for you. Give me about an hour." They didn't just take a plain cake from the display case. They actually asked me what flavor I wanted and made the cake fresh in the flavor I chose, and then decorated it exactly how I imagined it. The piping and flowers were absolutely beautiful. You could tell they really took their time and cared. What touched me even more was the little details. They carefully taped the bottom of the cake to the box so it wouldn't slide while I was driving, making sure the piping and decorations stayed perfect. That level of thoughtfulness meant so much to me. When I picked it up, I honestly almost cried because it was so beautiful. At the bridal shower everyone kept complimenting it and asking where it was from. It tasted amazing and became one of the highlights of the day. Those two wonderful women in the bakery didn't just make a cake -- they saved my best friend's bridal shower. They worked so hard, were so kind, and went completely above and beyond for me. I truly feel blessed and so grateful. I even thanked God for them because in that stressful moment they really felt like angels. I hope they get the recognition they deserve, because customer service like that is rare. I have never experienced anything like it, and I will never forget their kindness.
