It happens over and over again. It was delicious bread but something changed. So I threw out 3-4 loaves of bread (I always buy 5-6). Wasted my money and time. I drive 20 minutes every week to get this bread but now I stop to go there. I have told them a million times to make sure the bread is cooked through because the inside is raw. The stuff inside is nice but than I bought some meat and it was cooked and I was sick for about a week. I went by the week after and I drove through the back thinking there was more parking because I was going to a different store, and I saw the cook cooking the meat violating all sorts of health codes. Wiping his sweat with his hands, not wearing gloves, throwing trash away and using an old dusty fan to blow the meat, cross contamination and everything you could think of. Anyone know who to email all this to like health department or something? read more

Don't miss the fresh baked Btead from this place! I was there this Sunday to get some. This bread tastes phenomnal with Feta Cheese and Eggs. The bread is crisp and delicious. We freeze the left overs which tastes good after toastig. But the experience of the fresh baked bread is priceless. Try to get there by 11 am before the bread gets packed (2 per bag) into plastic bags which makes them softer. read more

This store is HARAM!! They steal peoples money. Stay away from this store, they over charge people. I purchased this halawa about 2 days ago. And I was surprised when I see my charge in my CC. I bought halawa and btl of water and they charged me for $23!!! It clearly says on the top of the container that halawa was only $5.99. Never again purchasing from this store. Never offered a receipt. Check the other comments on this store and they experience the same thing. I called today to tell them that they doing wrong. The boss doesn't wanna talk to me. Omg you have got to go there for the freshly baked bread. You can watch them baking it in the back and you get it right out of the oven! Then order some kebobs and they'll grill them for you. Then top it off with some extremely fresh feta cheese and again OMG! Then you go and have one great meal. So good! I was there at 12pm but to my surprise i was told no more baking fresh bread and were asking me to buy bread that is hot placed in plastic bags. They really need to work on their service. I'm purchasing about $ 200 from this store almost every two weeks. I have been a customer of the Anwar Bazar for about two years and they know me. Many times I charged two times for one item, I always checked my receipt front of door and asked him to correct it. On Sep 10, I purchased meat, Dry figs, Couple of packages of tea, almost $150, also I bought two packs of Afghan sweets. I looked at the receipt and not extra charge then threw it in the trash near the parking lot. I got home I opened one of the Afghan cookies and there was black mold on the cookies and the second package was white spots with a rotten smell. Next day on Sep 11, I went to store to show them what I find between the cookies.The owner said you bought these a long time ago !!! I showed the meat's plastic that had a date that belonged to yesterday. But he said "you bought two new and fresh yesterday, but these two were old at your home and you return the moldy cookies you had before !!! " In my opinion, this can be due to a person's lack of culture. He incriminated me for what I did not do. If I had cookies at home why I purchased again!! I told him every month I expended more than $400 in your store do you think I'm hungry for $10. if I return it because I want to show you it's summer and your store is warm to keep fresh breads and cookies or fresh dates out of fridge or turn of your air conditioner to reduce your cost,,, His behavior is so bad , impolite, dishonest, and rude. I never back to this store, I prefer to give my business to international bazaar because they have more value for their customer also everything is fresh. This is only place I goto to buy goat meat or lamb. It's Amazingly fresh and wonderful in flavor . My hubby likes the fresh bread . I love this place for halal meat poultry and meat. I also like their mediterranean grocery options. Staff is very nice and friendly!

The store is small, but they have a wide verity of items. I love the fresh fruits and vegetables. The halal meat section isn't as elaborate as the International Market down the street, but the prices are more reasonable and they have halal boneless skinless chicken thighs. They also make and sell fresh Afghan bread. This place is definitely worth checking out. read more

A bit pricey. But y'know what? Higher cost of living and import taxes. A dear friend of mine had a birthday and so we scooped up some lamb, candies, cookies, tea, and fruit leather. Lamb: perfect cut of lamb, clearly fresh. We made it in the Persian style and it was totally nomworthy. Candies: also new enough to not taste old to me, exactly as advertised, and actually pretty affordable. Cookies: I can't say enough good things about the chickpea cookies or cardamom rice cookies. Both perfect for dipping in tea. Tea: a very drinkable Persian black with an Assam base. Clear and slightly floral, with strong but not overpowering cardamom flavor. I'll definitely be getting more for myself. Fruit leather: I'm (weirdly?) a connoisseur of fruit leather. The pomegranate was exemplary, wildly exceeding my expectations. I ate it in tiny pieces and still got through all of it in two days. Tangy without being overwhelming, balanced sweetness with a lovely slight saltiness. Overall, I haven't tried the produce, but generally the selection is quite solid and I had no issues with music, pricing, or expiry dates. And for the record, there wasn't any music playing but if it had been a muezzin rocking on out, it's a halal market with imported middle eastern stuff. They have one of the best fresh "barbari" breads I have ever had. I come here at least twice a week for the bread and most other small grocery items, including "sharbate albalu" sour cherry syrup. When we visit my in-laws, I always buy 2 extra bags of bread to take with us. Bakery opens at 9 and usually closes at 3. The bread have is really fresh...Sometime they have good fruits and other middle Eastern food products; however, the management is terrible! He owner is cheap and close-minded. Many customers complained that he plays only Muslim prayers (which is not the customers preference) and that he should change is to lively melodies; however, he didn't care at all.
