If you're on River Road with a serious Mexican food craving, Seis Cantina is hitting all the right notes. I've been here before, but the updated menu layout and stellar tableside service are fantastic upgrades. I had the carne asada on a steak salad--absolutely delicious, perfectly cooked, and packed with flavor. Seis is firing on all cylinders. I'll definitely be back soon! read more

They have rebranded this location. Menu, food quality and atmosphere have taken a big turn for the worst. They've turned it into a very bland quick serve taco shop. Don't expect the Birria to have anywhere near the same flavor or quality..,,,,but do expect prices to be ridiculous. This place won't survive unless the other Seis locations can pay for the losses of this location. I'd pull the Seis name off the building, call it something else before you destroy your brand. There's good reason Volkswagens are not called Porsches, the owners understand the importance of protecting the brand.....and throwing Cantina in the name isn't enough. read more

I waited in line for almost an hour. When I got to the counter I was informed that they were only doing breakfast and we all wanted lunch. They did not have a sign or tell anyone in line and worst of all, didn't even apologize. The same girl that was the cashier was also making the drinks and then there were 2 employees in the back just talking to each other. I have never been so frustrated and angry at a restaurant before. What a waste of time read more

We love this place! Kick off happy hour here with a plate of (the best) nachos and a pitcher of margaritas. Then, order some delightful tacos and you MUST try the Mexico City Style Quesadilla. The restaurant is clean, well maintained, and they offer full service now (you can sit down and have a server come to your table), or you can order, take a number, and wait for your food. I prefer the latter, and the service has always been fast and friendly! There is indoor and outdoor seating. read more

This location is a walk up and order then pick your own table location. They have tables both indoor and on the patio. We sat on the patio which was so convenient with a baby. I ordered the mini chimis and ceviche. The mini chimis are flavorful and delicious. The ceviche had large chunks of shrimp which was nice versus the standard small chopped shrimp. It was fresh and so good! I wish there were a little more spice in their salsas, but overall the flavors were awesome. We will be back! read more

It's hard to find any reason to say the new Cantina experience is superior to the original Seis. The new atmosphere surprisingly feels less fresh than the old. The food feels like an attempt to improve the bottom line for some franchise model in the works. No fresh corn tortillas. No epic Grande quesadillas. Sadly, for us, Seis has lost it's magic as it starting to feel more corporate by the day. After 2 times visiting this location and trying multiple food items at the Cantina, we always leave comparing it to the old and wishing they had not changed. The old Seis was fantastic, stylish, thoughtful. This Seis feels one step away from a slow demise as a mediocre chain. It's not too late! Bring it back! read more

Now that the River Road location has changed their menu I definitely would not recommend it. I love the one on TanqueVerdi but this one is terrible. Limited menu, $3.00 for a small portion of chips and bland burrito. The manager said they were getting back to their food truck roots. Sorry I even placed an order and did not walk out. read more

Disappointed. Very seldom do I feel compelled to write a review, however here it is in hopes I save someone else. Wife and I used to come here regularly, and unfortunately this will be our last visit. If you visited Seis prior to the "rebrand", save yourself the time and money and do not ruin your dinner date. See attached photo of food for all you need to know. No complaints with staff or service or ambiance, everyone is nice. Hopefully changes can be made in the future. read more

Seis Kitchen - The $15 Pollo Asado Nachos that used to be a favorite. - Mexican Near Me - Tucson, Arizona

I'm a fan of Seis Kitchen since its first location opened at the Mercado San Augustin. This River location was such a beautiful spot because they had an actual dining room, bar and large area for groups. My team at work would meet early to celebrate once or twice a year, in their patio. On this occasion my husband and I wanted to celebrate Mothers Day and due to our schedule, Monday dinner we came in at 5pm. I love the open space and generally you order food at the counter and your food comes to the table. On this trip there is a new option of sitting at tables with no number, but an orange card displayed where they offer table service. I'm not sure how this works because they are usually busy. At Seis Kitchen there is a variety of proteins including: cod, mahi mahi, shrimp, chicken tinga, chicken pobil, al pastor, carnitas, birria, and more. Today the menu, which usually is on the wall was only in menu form. Seis Kitchen has expanded their menu and are showcasing their bar menu. Most of the time I get a taco plate with my choices size which are beans smashed beans, rice, Casitas, or an upgraded side salad. They also have chimichanga's,quesadillas burritos, and nachos. They have a kids menu as well. My mom and I love their chips and salsa. They roast chiles and tomatoes daily for their fresh green and red salsas. The problem can be, over eating the complementary chips and then jonsing for more chips n salsa before your order arrives. My last trip to Seis Kitchen my mom and I ordered nachos and then filled up on their homemade chips and homemade salsa. On any given day they offer two agua fresca flavors, and horchata. I love their agua fresca options and as much as I love a good margarita; my love for lemonade and limonada is greater. With the many places to enjoy Mexican food in Tucson, Seis Kitchen has been a top place for gatherings and meeting with groups. Other good options in Tucson are loud or more frantic. All Seis Kitchen locations with dining rooms seem to have a spa like relaxing vibe. The original is a walk up space at the Mercado an so crowded and noisy. The food here is great, and our Mother's Day belated dinner was a great success. Please check out this location off River Road in Tucson. read more

We have always really enjoyed this Seis. On our most recent visit we were greeted upon entering and a very friendly employee talked to us about the new menu, along with the recent changes to this location. We were impressed with the new menu choices and the food was great. The employees were very helpful and they made us feel at home. Overall this was a great experience and we will definitely be back. read more

Friend and I had been wanting to try Seis. We met for lunch. Walking in, it's not clear that one has to order their food from the counter. There was an Asian family, who walked in after us, who had no clue what to do. Finally a server went to them and helped them figure it out. Better signage would be helpful. The place was really loud (something on the ceiling to help mute the noise?). The server that took our orders had a really hard time making eye contact. Friend ordered the shrimp tacos with rice; I ordered the chicken tacos with calabacitas as a side. More confusing was that there were numbered stanchions on some of the tables, with stanchions also sitting on the ordering counter. We had to tell the no eye-contact server what table we wanted, with no idea what numbers were on each table - confusing. We sat down and a server brought us chips and salsa, The salsas were okay, typical for many Mexican restaurants. We waited around 15 minutes to get our food (the table next to us had theirs in 5-7 minutes). The food was delicious! My chicken was grilled, tender and moist. Friend's shrimp were cooked perfectly. The tacos had lots of cheese and cabbage on them. The calabacitas were tender but a bit bland. Friend said the rice was good. For the price, it was an appropriate amount of food. We'll go back, now that we know how the place operates. read more

I finally tried Seis on river, I usually frequent the location at the Mercado. This one is nice, but I still prefer the ambiance at the Mercado. The menu is exactly the same. I had the ensalada mixto with creamy cilantro dressing and grilled shrimp added. It was huge and just delicious! We also had chips and salsa with red and green salsas! There was enough salad for me for dinner also! You place your order at the window and get a number to have your food brought out. Seis is expanding and it's a good thing! read more

We have been getting back, a very good value. We were not happy with the changes but we have learned to embrace them

Delicious as usual! This time I split a burrito which was a better amount of food. Everyone enjoyed their food! I ordered the coffee and had free refills which was fun - self-serve. I don't particularly enjoy their specialty coffee options so this time I didn't order it and felt better about the whole thing. However, I do wonder why you are prompted to tip when the only server aspect is walking the food to your table the first initial time. Overall, a good experience, but heads up don't tip much because there aren't servers. read more

This place is a vibe! Also, very yummy food no matter what you get. I got the chicken and steak fajitas and they came out sizzling!! It came with two sides and I got the side salad which has house made dressing that I want to recreate at home!! So healthy and yummy and quality ingredients. The side salad was mix greens and spinach with onion, cucumber and tomato with a buttermilk cilantro lime dressing. My boyfriend got a tinga quesadilla. It was like a giant enchilada. Highly recommend. Everyone is so nice. If there's a line you could wait around 25-30 min to place your order but the food comes fast! read more

We stumbled upon this place while visiting from out of town, and we were so impressed, we might actually come back during our short 3-night stay! They start you off right: Great chips accompanied by two different salsas that were both fresh and very tasty--a great sign of what's to come! For the main event, the Surf and Turf Tacos were absolutely amazing. We also ordered the Guacamole, which was spot on and delicious. This is definitely high-quality Mexican food. The only slight critique is that the layout of the restaurant was a little confusing when we first walked in, but that was quickly forgotten once the incredible food arrived. The complex the restaurant is in is very nice! read more

We decided to have a semi-indulgent lunch and ordered some sangria and salad. I ordered the Ensalada Rustica, which had greens, cabbage, queso fresco, pepitas, sliced radishes, pico de gallo, black beans and fire-roasted corn, with the ancho-lime vinaigrette. I added the chicken (called poc chuc). It was a very generous salad and very filling, but I thought, a tad light on the chicken, especially since I paid to add it. The sangria was delicious! Ordering was easy at the counter and we were directed to a pre-numbered table. Complementary chips and salsa were soon delivered. All staff we encountered were friendly and helpful. One little tip to the restaurant though, if diners are sitting next to the glass doors, you might want to wait to spray cleaner all over them, which wafted heavily our way and onto our food. Other than that, the inside was lively, but not so much that we couldn't converse. read more

This is a tough one. I've been frequenting Seis since they first opened their Mercado location. This River/Campbell location was a regular lunch spot for me but the new "Cantina" rebrand is very disappointing. I guess they are trying to be a bar with snacks rather than a restaurant with a bar. That's odd given the size of the space and how much of it is devoted to sitting down and eating. I went early after their transition and they offered 3 or 4 items with a choice of shape (taco, burrito). And they were not the same tacos as before even. Very disappointing. Looking at the menu right now, it looks like they added a few more things. Not enough though. Bring back the full menu. Turn this place back into a restaurant please. read more

Wow. So disappointed. Seis at River changed their menu. I don't know why. My don's and I stopped today craving our Seis favorites only to be oriented to their new "street taco" cantina menu. I had the carnitas tacos. They were terrible. No flavor. My sons had their $15 carne asada burritos. Equally disappointing given they lacked all the usual ingredients like beans, avocado etc. read more

This is NOT the OLD Seis Kitchen that we've visited on a regular basis for the past 10 years. As a matter of fact it's now Seis Cantina. New menu. Smaller portions. Higher prices. Surly food runner. Now opening at 11am. No breakfast. Adios Seis Cantina. read more

They got rid of some of their signature items: Poc chuc, grilled fish, calabacitas. Everything is à la carte, including the chips. The online ordering platform is confusing, with only a few combinations available and listed separately from the taco and burrito option. Very disappointing. The place was empty when I came from my pick up order. Go figure. read more

Love going to Seis for fish tacos! Enjoy the nice grilled (not fried) yellowtail tacos with a HUGE side salad. Guilty pleasure: their great guacamole and chips! Weather-permitting, enjoying lunch outside on the patio is really nice. Inside can get noisy, but still not bad (and in summer, it's a little quieter, as there are fewer diners). Sometimes there's a wait, but it's worthwhile. Worth noting that staff are friendly and pleasant as well! read more

New cantina spin on seis is cool, but the food is below disappointing. Normally I'm a seis fan, but the carne asada was grisly in nearly every bite of my burrito, and my partner's tacos had so much oil that it could pour and fill an entire napkin. After eating at the downtown Seis Kitchen, I was eager to try the other outlets. Big difference in quality of the food between the St Agostin market cafe and the River and Campbell store. Service took forever at 7pm on a Sunday night. We finally had to go up to the counter and ask what was going on after waiting 30 minutes. When the food did come, the tortillas completely fell apart and we received the black beans instead of the refried ones we ordered. Servers disappeared. Downtown restaurant uses real utensils and this one offered us plastic which we did have to use to eat the tacos. I haven't tried the other outlets so don't know how they compare but the downtown version is certainly far above the River one. read more

Always fresh, always good, always top quality ingredients! Only negative is none of their salsas are all that spicy. However I could not recommend their Mexico City style quesadilla more! It always impresses me every single time I eat it, which is a rare experience for me. Always pretty clean at this location with a nice ambiance, however does tend to either be packed or slow, so you have to know when to hit it. They just changed their menu and it is not a good at all! The burritos are much smaller; even the size large. There is nothing in the burrito but meat and beans. Very disappointed with the food. They changed their menu and nothing from the original menu was still there. We tried the nachos, since the previous ones we had there before the change and the other locations were so good. They are about half the size of what it used to be and the cheese was cold shredded cheese, not the seis creamy cheese it used to be. Nachos should have melted cheese, that's what makes them nachos. Our kids got the small burritos, thinking it would be about half the size of their normal big burritos. They came out and I would describe it as a rolled taco, not near enough food for the $8 price. They did have a nice salsa bar, but that shouldn't be the best part of the meal. It seems like they maybe are struggling to stay afloat and changed everything up, unfortunately they are all bad changes and we won't be going back to this location. Hopefully the Oro Valley location and the Mercado one can continue to make the Seis food we all love. read more
