Nationwide chain - lots of offerings including My son-in-law's favorite lollipops... Vanilla, coffee, flavored are two of his favorites. Lots of chocolates abound. It was the Saturday before Christmas so they were a little busier than normal and that may have impacted their normal outstanding customer service and sample offerings Staff not overly friendly today... The manager was even a little off today from her normal cheerful self. No free samples today... But that's OK. It's a one off cause that's normally a main component of a trip to Sees candies. The chocolates themselves are ok - and you have the flexibility to build your own box to make that gift that extra special. Lots of competition in town and parking here is a challenge with the mega H-E-B right next-door. I wanted to show my friend Sees Candy after the closing of Lammes but when we went the store was pretty small compared to the ones back in CA. There also seemed to be less candy on display. We were greeted with a sample but service was a bit abrupt and didn't feel like the normal See's experience I'd come to expect. It wasn't bad but it wasn't what I am normally used too, bummer. Amazing selection of chocolate candies. Today's sample was a Dark Chocolate Heart with Peanut Butter. Delicious!! We limited ourselves to an 8 ounce box and each picked 6 each. For those of you who weren't good at math that was twelve pieces total for about 20 dollars. Not bad for premium hand made chocolates. Can't wait to try them all when we get home! I've been thinking about what I could get to make an advent calendar with small drawers for toys or candy. I just happened to see an advertisement for See's Candies. The Lollipop candies with no sticks are the perfect size. They will fit perfectly in the drawers. I believe it's 32 pieces and all I really need is 25. So it's perfect with a couple of snacks left over. I was given a sample chocolate as well, which I enjoyed on my drive home. I was so overjoyed to know my favorite chocolate place is here. The last two places I lived did not have See's. Now I'm right around the corner from all my favorite chocolate. There's so much I like about See's. My favorite thing to do is to make my own box. I have also done that for gifts for family and friends, especially during Christmas. The boxes are already wrapped in that signature red wrapping paper. They even have cute stocking stuffers for the children. I also like the bags of individual chocolates, like the pecan buds; they're a favorite. So, on this day, that's what I bought. Of course, I'll be back year-round because they celebrate other holidays, too. I think everyone knows about the Easter jelly beans. That actually was my first introduction to See's. It was Easter, and I was giving the jelly beans as part of a gift. The jelly beans most definitely stood out among the rest, and I've been going back ever since. read more

Being new to this business, I decided to read through the reviews and by in large this is a very good quality chocolatier. It is located directly next-door to an H-E-B. When you enter, you'll be handed a chocolate sample, which of course entices you to buy more. You can buy your choices from behind the glass or put together your own custom mix in a box. I came here looking for something for Valentines and they have a very impressive and expensive selection. If you love really well-made chocolate and have money to burn, this place is for you. Growing up in California, See's Candies marked every birthday, holiday, or "just because" day for my mom... a tradition that was passed down to me. We used to have to mail order or rely on the generosity of family to send our favorite confection so I was thrilled when the Austin location opened. The staff are always welcoming, knowledgeable and patient as you carefully peruse the display to pick out the perfect mix of delights for a custom box. They also have prepackaged selections but knowing exactly which pieces my mom likes is part of the gift. I had such a wave of nostalgia as I saw the special Easter eggs and truffles and recalled getting those in my basket from my grandparents many many moons ago. Even though they've been around forever, they've never skimped on the quality of the chocolate or the innovation to create new and seasonal flavors. Unlike many other chocolates, there isn't that waxy profile and I'm a huge fan of their butterscotch lollipops. This is not your scarf-it-down-in-one-sitting kind of chocolate either. I visited See's Candies to purchase some boxes of candies as gifts for family members on Monday. It was a large, time-consuming order, as I was choosing the candies for each box. The staff were incredibly helpful and knowledgeable! The lovely lady, Tabitha, who filled my order made great suggestions and helped pack the beautiful boxes to the brim, and then she carefully wrapped each box. I highly recommend See's on Research, next to HEB. The candies are fantastic, handmade, and yummy. And the staff is knowledgeable and helpful. PLUS! I've been sampling See's Candies for at least 20 years now. I discovered them when I was traveling out to California and would see them in the airports and at Macy's. I'm originally from Michigan and would sparingly encounter See's Candies during the Christmas season @ Macy's, they did not have any stores at that time. I never thought anything of it - until I finally tried their candies and chocolates after several positive recommendations from friends. I was so impressed with the quality and taste that I've been a fan and returning customer ever since. Naturally I was excited to see them open up a store a few years ago in Austin, and I now make it a regular go-to place several times a year. There are so many things I love about See's Candies, let me run down the list for ya..... - The quality of their chocolates are impeccable and taste phenomenal. Never a bad batch, consistently good, it never fails. Even if you buy online - or in the store - they always taste the same. My mother loved their "Nuts and Chews" box, I'm also a fan of their "Assorted Chocolates" box. Truffles are awesome too, and they have 1lb boxes and up - just grab and go. - That can of Toffee-ettes - OMG! These lovely morsels are perfect to have anywhere - at home or the office. My co-workers love them! It's a must have. - The Maple Peanut Brittle is to die for! It only comes out about 3x a year, one being close to Father's Day and limited stock. I've handed them out as gifts and everyone goes nuts. It's honestly the best brittle I've ever had. - Build your own Box option - - there are just too many chocolates that I like here. Can't list them all but some of my faves are: Cashew Brittle, Buttercream, Dark Almonds, Scotchmallow, Rum Nougat, Key Lime Truffle, Dark Normandie, and Dark Molasses. And believe me I worked hard to narrow down my list. - Love the Peppermints and Molasses Boxes! Assorted box has both white and dark chocolate - I recently fell in love with their Sour Jelly Beans. This surprised me because I am not a jelly bean fan but they had a Halloween Pack on discount post holiday so I bought 2 - - and wow - they are not that sour and not too sweet and didn't have that bad sugary aftertaste. I was really impressed with the quality and so were my friends. SOLD! Customer service here has always been consistently good. They are very attentive here and eager to help you when you walk into the store. You always get a sample when you stop by - and on my most recent trips I was helped graciously by Emily - who was superb and very courteous. Even though she's relatively new there she knew everything about the products and even helped me with some returns / exchanges (FYI - they will swap out anything you do not like - or - never opened - or if it gets old - it's such a great thing!). Who would have thought that the very best Mom and Pop chocolate shop would turn out to be a wholly-owned subsidiary of Warren Buffett's Berkshire Hathaway? :-) Despite the fact that Berkshire Hathaway purchased See's Candies in 1972, it still looks and feels like a Mom & Pop operation.  Mr. Buffett is notorious for purchasing companies that he admires and then using the resources of Berkshire Hathaway to allow them to focus on what they do best.  In the case of See's, their strength is making amazing chocolate, and then offering it to customers with friendly, efficient, and effective customer service. Very soon after I first ran across See's, I became hopelessly addicted to their chocolates.  My long-term favorites are the Dark Normandy and the Dark Bordeaux; recently I added Chocolate Peanut Butter to my "top five" list at See's. If you buy See's chocolate by visiting one of their brick-and-mortar locations (like this one) you'll always be greeted with a smile, and offered a sample or two.  Alternately you can buy chocolates online, then either have them shipped or pick them up at a retail location.  You can also do what I did most recently - place a phone order and then pick up your chocolate in person. I ordered a custom one-pound box of chocolates for pickup at this location the next day.  When I arrived my chocolate was fresh, boxed, and ready for pickup!  Customer service (as usual) was friendly and helpful - they even gave me a sample!   I love this place, and highly recommend it as can't fail comfort food to help you get through politics, pandemics, and/or economic downturns :-) read more

Steven is the rudest guy I've ever had help me at See's. I don't know how he keeps a job. He's very short and seems bothered he has to help you. If I could get my own chocolates I would have instead of having him do so, but that's not an option. He needs to go back through training or if it's not training learn manners and how to be kind , so that you can keep your customers. I won't be back to this location. Neither will my niece that lives close by there. She spent almost $200 and he lost her business as well. read more

One of my favorite thing about See's is that they give you a free daily sample each time you come in (although due to Texas laws, you physically have to enter the store to receive your sample) The aesthetic is very clean and bright and the chocolates are neatly displayed. Typically you can find something that's running on a special sale, and they typically do holiday specials as well. I love their crunchy/krispy chocolates, their truffles, and who am I kidding...I love it all. There isn't really anything I purchased here that I wouldn't eat again although I love their fruit crème filled chocolates the most. I've only ever seen one employee (I typically come around the same time after work), but she has always been so friendly and cheerful. This is a great place to pick up an afternoon treat and I always love getting to try a new chocolate when I come in! read more

Great staff that provides you outstanding customer service and samples of course . Staff will always greet you when you enter their boutique shops. See's candies has the most excellent quality chocolate in my opinion, I've tried all their milk chocolate options and it never disappoints. Im a milk chocolate girl so prefer that over dark chocolate. My favorite chocolates from here are chocolate milk patties, milk almond caramel, mocha, butter cream, butter-chew, butterscotch square, coconut, and i'll stop before I find myself dropping the names of all their milk chocolates LOL. The best part about going to this place is they give out free samples and I remember when I was a kid I would try everything! The staff here it really depends who is working and often you get the generous people who give you samples with a smile but you'll be hit by 1-2 people that might give off some sour energy, which is never good and takes the joy away from wanting to try new, different options before committing. You can always order online to have this chocolate delivered but buying it in store is the best, the chocolate feels fresh! I love See's Candies and finding one in Austin was amazing. As soon as we walked in three smiling faces greeted us and a sample was offered. The store was very clean and everything was nicely organized. I bought a box of lollipops for my grandson. They are kind of big for a small child but they are the best and he loves them. From the moment that my hand touched a box of lollipops the sales clerk started pushing the individual chocolate orange lollipops that sat next to the register. She said they were only going to be around for a limited time so I should grab a few. I explained twice that See's is not in my area....Everything is limited to me. After the third time her enthusiasm worked on me and I figured what the heck ...I tossed some in with my order. They were very good. For the first time we customized our boxes of chocolates instead of buying them prepackaged. Up to this point I did not realize what a difference that makes. Not only did I get multiples of my favorites but to me the chocolates were fresher. Much fresher... like what have I been missing fresher. I had no idea that my favorite chocolates could be even better. I highly recommend taking the time to customize your order. read more

Disclaimer: Take this review with a grain of salt. I'm actually not a huge chocolate fan. See's Candies has the appearance of a high quality candy store: It's not dank, and everything looks pristine and organized. The chocolates are carefully arranged inside a display case next to the cash register. The chocolates, however, are quite average. I've tried most of the chocolates that See's offers, but I only like the dark chocolate with marshmallow inside. The chocolates with fruit syrup are downright strange, and the milk chocolates are way too sweet. Parking is not an issue. See's Candies is located in the same shopping center as HEB. But See's Candy is far enough from HEB so that you won't be bombarded with traffic from incoming cars. The customer base is mostly older women. Makes me think that the chocolates outside of the display case are geared toward grandmothers buying "shit, I don't know what to get you" gifts. read more

This morning, there were only two employees in the store and even though they were busy, they were masterfully juggling customers, handing out free samples, and making sure everyone left with more than a positive experience. March 28, 2014: The next step in the continued, errrrrr, Californication of Austin. Since neither the wife nor I need to brave the horrors of a long morning commute, I, for one, welcome our new Golden State overlords. That is, as long as they keep bringing me tasty burgers and shakes (work on those fries, In-N-Out), jars of cookie butter, and, in the case of the brand new See's Candies next to HEB at Braker/183, delicious chocolate. This is their first Austin location, and marks their first standalone location in Texas (three mall locations in the Metroplex). The "We're Open" sign on their second day (Grand Opening is April 4) caught my attention, but I couldn't place the name. After being welcomed by friendly employee Mike, I perused the almost overwhelming selection of packaged goods on the left half of the store. I saw a box that made me remember... When leaving San Francisco a couple years ago, we saw the See's display in the airport gift shop. We grabbed a couple boxes for friends, including some peanut brittle. My lovely bride has never met a brittle she didn't like. And I do feel sad for the three friends that only got a viewing of our photo book from that trip, and not the See's brittle earmarked for them. My concentration was broken by an older man walking in, looking like a child bounding down the stairs on Christmas morn. As a San Francisco transplant, he has fond memories of See's, and the "Bordeaux" (chocolate-covered brown sugar buttercream) and "Rocky Road" (honey marshmallows and English Walnuts, wrapped in chocolate) he giddily named. His wife said he could probably recognize each piece (about a buck a piece, btw, priced by weight) by the signature swirls marking each one. When I asked sweet smiling staffer Betsy which chocolates were gluten-free, I didn't get back the usual bad answer of "What?", "Yes... Probably", or my favorite "Oh. Most contain sugar." Just a strong answer of "All of it... Though if you have soy allergies, I can tell you which ones contain soy lecithin." Nice job, Betsy! So, I leave with a medium box of peanut brittle (of course), the two flavors the man mentioned, plus a couple more walnut-ty ones (wife's fave). Now, all I have to do is find the smelling salts, because my wife passed out after her first taste of the Rocky Road. She did finally come to, and declared that I can't rate this place any less than 5-stars... I always do as she wishes. Well, no one on Austin Yelp will ever come close to Amy D and her psychic knowledge of every new bar & restaurant having a soft opening - seriously, how does she do that? - but I am going to take a shot at being the first to review all the new chocolate places in town. Okay, this is the only one I actually know about, it opens officially on April 4, and I stumbled across their soft opening because I was next door at the Arboretum HEB. But a man's gotta have a dream. I tend to view pieces of chocolate as laps on a track, and if I was a marathon runner, it would be easy to go nuts here. The right side of the house is a vast display case with a seemingly endless number of chocolate choices (I stopped counting after seventy), and you pay by weight. My five pieces cost exactly $5.04. Yeah, it was pretty much the best dark chocolate cherry & goo-filled thing I've ever had, but I've probably only done five of those in my life. The Key Lime tasted exactly like Key Lime, and the Blueberry Truffle enclosed by chocolate was pretty remarkable. I gifted the remaining Raspberry Cream & Light Truffle pieces to Angie around the corner at Yogertz, who actually told me about this See's store. The left side of the house is currently a massive Easter display, and if you love chocolate bunnies, you're going to love the current left side of the house. This is See's first storefront in Austin, all the product is shipped in from California, and Heather & the staff here are simply bright and cheerful. I really hope they do well. I have fond memories of visiting my grandparents in Northern California when I was kid, piling into their Lincoln Continental to head over to the Stanford Shopping Center, and stopping into See's to get a free sample from the sales clerks who I believed were the best "nurses" ever (you'll understand my confusion when you see their old-fashioned, white uniforms in person). Fast forward, oh, thirty years, and I spied the familiar See's signage while tooling down 183. You better believe that I made a beeline through the HEB parking lot and waited patiently for my turn to select a custom mix of chocolates. (If overwhelmed by choice or short on time, you can always do a grab-and-go on the left side of the store for pre-packaged boxes, their famous lollipops, or seasonal candies.) Despite my foodie leanings, I'm a milk chocolate girl through and through, so I opted for the classic milk buttercream (vanilla center surrounded by just the right proportion of chocolate), butterscotch squares (densely-packed brown sugar bombs), and milk bordeaux (like the buttercream, but with a hint of brown sugar and chocolate sprinkles). All three were just as good as remembered. Ahhh... I know that we kvetch over the Californian takeover of Austin. Hell, I do it all the time despite going to college on the west coast. However, I make an exception for See's because of its darn tasty, nostalgic goodness. read more
