Most places they try to rush through your appointment to get clientele in, so I appreciate that she took the time with me. I want to start out by saying that I am always very upfront and blunt about any reviews I make on yelp. My overall experience was pleasant and my nails came out great! However, there were parts of my appointment that I found a little upsetting and this is just to bring awareness for some potential clients if you choose to book here. DISCLAIMER: I am NOT saying I hated my experience or that you shouldn't come here but just some notes. This was my first time here, I love my nails and everyone there was very sweet and kind! But my experience was not as relaxing as I was hoping it would be. I decided to treat myself because I have been mentally unwell and very stressed out and I found Secrete Nail Bar thru Instagram. I found their booking style very unique. I booked for a Freestyle Gel X with JoJo, I chose her because she was the only nail tech with a profile picture and I was hoping because she looked young that it would be easy to communicate with her my requests for my nails if there were any. Usually, nail salons have much older Vietnamese adults that don't speak much English, which is fine as I do know some but speaking English is my preferred language and knowing that my set would be high quality I wanted to make sure communication would be easy. I also booked a pedicure with a girl named Lyna. and a gel removal. When I entered, I was a little disappointed at first. This salon looks very aesthetic. The pricings are also quite high so I was expecting the customer service to also be top quality, but when I stated my name they didn't seem aware of what service I was walking in for, despite mentioning that I had made an appointment (in the same day mind you). I was surprised to see a different lady come sit down and talk to me, I see her table and her name is Lyna, not JoJo, and I was a bit worried because it was obvious that Lyna did not know much english. (again not a problem but I was worried about having to stress about speaking vietnamese which later on I ended up having to do.) They also did not check in with me what service I booked for and were just going to start doing the removal process and asked if I had a picture. I was confused because in the description for a Freestyle it said I could show three Inspo photos and when the receptionist heard me she rushed over to tell me that the promo I booked for was for ST. Patrick's and it was no longer available but it was actually, a separate promo I had booked that was still on their website. I started getting nervous and it kind of added to my stress that day, I let her know that it was on their website and I was aware of the two promos. They let me do it but this kind of lessened my high expectations. It would've been nice if they had prepped and remembered names of reservations and kept in mind the service clients book for, to avoid any confusion or discord in the salon as everyone who books are there for relaxation, not to argue or fight or have a discussion they weren't expecting. I was not expecting that at the beginning especially at a salon that looks very high quality, I've had many other places know my name even on the first appointment and are ready and prepared for what I booked for. There was also no mention as to why JoJo wasn't doing my nails and instead they had Lyna do both my nails and pedicure? but I had faith that they all did great service so I didn't let that bother me as much, my only concern was the communication which is my next note. I don't want this to be misunderstood or sound mean, but communication is pretty important when doing a service. I thought Lyna was super sweet and kind, she even offered to remove my left over gel polish for free which I am very grateful for. Lyna was also very attentive, asking me a lot if I was hurting anywhere. It was just hard to talk to and understand her suggestions. I hesitate to let salons know that I am Vietnamese, but the atmosphere felt very nice and there were other nail techs that understood english and viet equally. But I didn't appreciate the pressure of being told to "speak Vietnamese bc I can't understand you" when I thought I made it clear that I don't feel comfortable speaking Viet to people. although I know some, it wasn't terrible but it definitely felt a little stressful and it brought me a very uncomfortable feeling throughout my very long lengthily appnt. I also remember one of the ladies asking me if I understood something (which felt a bit judgemental) when I did, I just struggled to understand her dialect and cudnt hear some words but I also didn't know how to respond bc of the language barrier. I did not want to be rude and tell her to learn english or speak english with me, but in turn felt very pressured to speak viet even though it made me uncomfortable. My technician Haru was lovely and meticulous. She told me that she used to do Russian manicures and you can tell by her level of skill and attention to detail. l'm extremely disappointed. I was genuinely excited to model for a nail set, I loved the designs on instagram and even drove 30 minutes after receiving confirmation through DM. Updating review to answer the owner's response to my initial review - Short version of the story - technician did not take time to discuss with me the design and ended up doing things not as requested. When I communicated my concerns and requested adjustments, technician was dismissive and outright refused to address my requests in several instances, and rushed me through the process. I shared my disappointment about the result and especially about the service directly and privately with the business. The owner's response very much shifted the blame to me, referring to events and conversations that simply did not happen, just like their response to my review here. The exchange created further confusion, frustration and dissatisfaction. As I stated in my private reply to them last month, I understand the desire to defend your employee and your business but using inaccurate description of events and misinformation with no support to put the entire responsibility of the bad experience on me is wrong. I'm confused why they made and continue to make statements that can be easily rebutted by chat histories and booking records. Now addressing the owner's response directly - Hi Jojo, You claimed that you or your staff recommended I book with a pro for the inspo set I shared, and that I "insisted" on booking with a "regular tech" against your recommendation. A review of IG chat history can reveal that no such conversation happened. I reached out with inspo photo & video in January. There was no suggestion or recommendation made regarding the type of technician or any concern with the design. There was a later exchange I initiated regarding a promo deal only available with a pro tech. I opted to keep my appointment based on your clarification that the promo only applied to gel x and your recommendation of structured gel over gel x for my needs. Nothing about the technician's "limitations on experience" was ever brought to my attention. Not before booking, and not when I showed an inspo video at time of my appointment. You stated I booked my appointment two days in advance. The confirmation emails I received can show I booked the appointment more than 3 weeks in advance. 11 days ahead of my appointment, I moved up my appointment by 1 day since I invited a friend to join me and get her nails done as well. Regarding your response about communication during the appointment - there was never any request from the technician for a translator. My feedback and requests, as the appointment went on, were "there's hair (lint) on my nail", "can I see (the design you just did on my nail)", "can you make the (cat-eye) heart smaller and higher up (my nail bed)", "the side of the heart (you just drew) is missing a chunk, can it be fixed". She did not express any need for translation or that she didn't understand my concerns. She actually specifically said "no" or "no more" to some of my requests. Your reply suggested that I made comments or remarks questioning her experience or skill. YOU brought up her limitations on experience in your response. I made no such comments or remarks to her. I only made specific requests consistent with the design I requested. At the end of the appointment, I asked for a final fix, and that was when another tech asked the receptionist to come help translate, and the fix was addressed although the technician was obviously not happy that I asked. I did not voice any other concerns or make any complaints to the receptionist because I did not think it was appropriate to do so. Feedback and requests were made during the appointment and obviously not welcomed by the technician. I didn't have any confidence that anything more could be done, and I didn't want to make complaints in front of others. I wish I was told from the beginning that the design could not be done. I wish I was given the disclaimer or advice that the work showcased on Instagram were done by pro technicians and any kind of designs should be booked with them (I see that you've started including keyword "Pro Tech" in your posts since 2/19, which I'm sure is very helpful for your future customers for reference). Now I arrived as soon as they opened, mind you the website, yelp, google all states they welcome walk in's, but in actuality that isn't at all true, without an appointment you will most likely wait 30 minutes to an hour. Quality of the pedicure was definitely not worth the hour wait to begin services nor was it worth $60 dollars, the deluxe pedicure package states it includes a 10 minute massage, which I did not receive; instead my nail tech slapped some lotion on my legs & called it a day. I got a Pedicure by Lee and it is the BEST pedicure I have ever gotten! Lee was amazing, she made sure the water was the right temperature and that I was comfortable. My girlfriend and her friend had an appointment here for 10:45 and arrived around 10:54. They were seated, got their nails done, and everything seemed fine -- until checkout. Without saying a word beforehand, the staff added a $20 "late fee" each to their bills. When questioned, they mentioned it was "in the contract." But honestly, who reads a contract for getting their nails done? The correct way to handle this as a business would be to inform clients of your late policy upfront and ideally waive it the first time as a courtesy. At the very least, the charge should be disclosed before the service starts, not hidden until the end. This kind of surprise fee is not a good way to treat new clients. Even if the nails turned out nice, the lack of transparency leaves a bad impression. This was our first visit, and unfortunately, it will also be the last. Forgot to add that they did refund the fee after I called but I shouldn't have to call. read more

Again the vibe is just completely off with the owner. She's not friendly or welcoming at all. As a salon owner in the area myself I had already recommended some people to this place after my first time here because of their work! Had a wonderful experience here. The ladies were so welcoming and really took pride in their work. It was my first time getting gel-x nails and she really made sure that I had the correct length and shape on each nail. I really wanted to like this place but i just couldn't :( as soon as i walked in the receptionist didn't acknowledge me so the manager asked me if she could help me and i said yes im here for my appointment. it made me feel uncomfortable. they sat me down in the pedicure chair and then they get started on my pedicure. i loved the pedicure and my toes look super nice... but they didn't have a base color for my french. im not picky at all but i just wanted a clear pink. i ended up with a nude and it looks nice i just wished i came out with a clear pink color. i paid 75 dollars for a gel french pedicure. 55- deluxe pedicure 5- gel removal 15- french design the deluxe pedicure comes with a callus removal which i didn't receive:( on their website it didn't mention anything about extras like design or add ons. so i didn't know the extra costs. usually at other salons they would hand over a paper explaining their prices but unfortunately i didn't receive that. the most i paid for a gel french pedicure was 45 and they look the same and i receive so much more than what i did. while i was receiving my pedicure i noticed i got a message asking what my eta was. i then let the nail tech know i got a message. she then called over the receptionist to ask her about the message and she didn't even apologized for not acknowledging me or texting me again. she just walked away. during my manicure i asked for a french mani just like my toes. the manicure was going alright they have different techniques which is okay until i got to the french part. i had let her know i like a french that is a little bit on the thicker side and she says okay. i was watching a video on my phone and then she asks me if it looks okay. when i looked down the french went down around 3/4 of my nail. i was shocked but i didn't want to make her feel bad so i just told her a bit skinnier. i then saw the manager coming over to show her how how to do a french tip. i felt bad because i never complain i usually just let it be. the nail tech then continues to take around 10 more min to fix that one nail she did. it was getting late and i had to be somewhere at 1:40 so i just told her it was okay and she could just leave then like that. the manicure was pretty basic nothing really major. but 45 dollars for a gel manicure is absurd. i tend to notice the small things and i noticed the receptionist talk about a lady that walked in with her partner. they walked out side and she told the manager "that's her" and then continue whispering in her ear about it. it just gave off mean girl vibes and it wasn't nice. they were also offering everyone in there if they wanted something to drink and not once did they asked me. i'm just upset i spent over 100 dollars for a mani and pedi in unprofessional place:( if i could get my money back i would. read more
