Cute little simple coffee shop that doesn't get caught up in the frills of hipster coffee. Came here three times on a five day trip to Charleston because this place seems to have mastered a simple oat milk latte, which doesn't seem so simple these days! We had different baristas each day, but every drink was equally as delicious, consistency that is a testament to not only having delicious coffee at the root of things, but having talented baristas as well! I came in with my my sister and mom for some coffee on 8/2/21 at 8am. The young brunette with brown eyes was extremely rude to us. We were trying to figure out what type of coffee and she responded "I know." "Yeah I got that already." She was super un friendly and frankly we won't be back because of that one employee. This place needs better people. Also the same girl gave us out quiche and all three were cold. We had to ask them to heat them back up. Them placing them in the microwave took 10 minutes. Bohemian style coffee shop in historic Charleston- gets 5/5 stars for the ambiance, but 3/5 for the coffee. My sister & I both got almond milk lattes. Mine didn't have any added sweetener; hers had the brown sugar syrup. In my experience, good espresso shouldn't require sweetener. My latte was pretty bitter (more so when compared to the Brown Sugar one). Either the machine needed cleaning, the measurements were off, or the beans just aren't to my liking--counter culture will always have my heart.... iffy on t, but love the vibe to meet an old friend. The lavender latte was delicious (a bit light on lavender but still very tasty) but I was very unhappy with two aspects of this cafe. First the quality of the WiFi was awful --- super slow and kept kicking me off my work vpn. I was there several hours and after about a half hour I decided to switch to xfinity wifi. Second, the bathroom was gross and inadequately maintained. They were out of toilet paper, the toilet itself was dirty and they were out of hand soap with no paper towels anywhere: hard to see how a toilet could miss more points! What do you expect from a coffee place? Personally, I expect a level of service that makes me feel important. Eating a slice of toast and spending more time talking to the other employee, without making eye contact. Ok...cool so what do you guys have. Coffee. Great sales pitch! Well I heard on yelp that you have a great lavender latte. Oh yeah sure. Well yeah I'll get that. Maybe I caught this guy at a bad time. Then I pay the price. 5$ for a latte, a bit steep but I like caffeine and tasty drinks. Guess what! They have one size, small, 8 oz, which is great for a cappuccino but I basically paid .75 for every sip. There was almost no coffee flavor, basically no caffeine (which to me is the point of coffee) and the lavender flavor was flat & just not good. Needless to say, there are better coffee places in the area, I wouldn't waste your time on this one. read more

Delicious cold-brew coffee, no matter how you take your coffee (they can do entire growler fills!). Black Tap also offers a small selection of bakery items to complement their drinks. The lemon curd and blueberry scone had a pleasant consistency and a well-balance between sweetness and tart. Small, quaint location what a very hip, but not over the top, atmosphere. Perfect place for a relaxed coffee date, solo study session, or sitting and indulge in one's favorite tea. Merchandise seems a bit too expensive, but the coffee, tea, and baked goods here are more than worth it! read more

The coffee shop is located near the old jail house in a residential neighborhood. It has a nice communal bench which seemed to suit the atmosphere and location. The space is also flooded with sunlight but well ACed so it's very welcoming and relaxing. I tried the cold brew as it was a hot day. It's a darker cold brew than I'm used to but still good. My friend had the coconut oolong tea which looked like water by surprisingly tasted strongly of the flavors in its name. definitely worth trying. read more

I would have given it 4 stars but I held off because they are limited in the work space areas available with plugs to keep you powered up as you work away. Got to be one of the top coffee places in the country. Had cappuccino with oat milk done perfectly with Ethiopian blend. In Myrtle and other places cappuccinos are made way too hot and sudsy/foamy so I have to default to a latte and give precise instructions. Not here. PURRRRfect our with little leaf on top. RJ and company really made my trip with their friendliness and southern hospitality as well. Well done gang! read more

What they lack in adequate seating, they make up for in damn good coffee. I went with a decaf iced coffee with lavender syrup and i was not disappointed. Between my coffee and the blueberry, lemon curd scone, I was in sweet, sweet heaven. Being used to the east coast coffee shop scene, it was nice to receive some southern hospitality. Not only was my request for decaf coffee received with a smile, but they even did a pour over and I felt very taken care of in my caffeine-fragile state. Highly recommend! read more

Readers, I know this is going to make you all cringe... but I am that person who will drink instant coffee AND office-made drip coffee if it means it's FREE. I am notoriously cheap when it comes to certain luxuries, despite very much enjoying good coffee. That being said: when my coworker brought me a lavender coffee (latte?) I was so blown away, I immediately decided to return later in the week for their Affogato Friday special. Yes, of my free-will I was going to pay whatever it cost, confident it would be well worth the money. The lavender coffee was so wonderful it made my entire day. I told about eight people about it by that night. Well, I did return, and I will say, that affogato set me back 4.25, I price I would normally be indignant and ornery about. But it was heaven, or for those who find that phrasing sacrilegious, pure bliss in a cup. Gosh darnit, it was so tasty and so perfect I simply could not bring myself to fault the price. I could tell it was super rich, smooth, creamy high quality ice cream and not just a scoop of any-old ice cream plopped on in. Topped with pieces of house made English Toffee (also absolutely delightful!) and a perfect proportion of ice cream to liquid I could find nothing to improve on! Everything about the experience screamed "This is worth the price! Don't you dare insult them by being a brat about it!" Plus, they offer it to go, for those of us who were out on their lunch break and could not afford to linger in the spacious, wonderfully filled-with-natural light little shop. Indeed, they do not do anything by halves here. They deserve my money. They deserve your money. Go and experience it. Worth every penny. I promise. And if you can, enjoy the atmosphere, lined with bright windows and quaint furniture and plenty of open space, I have not seen a coffee shop I would rather sit in and enjoy a treat. read more

Black Tap. If you're a monger of sorts, this place will undoubtedly become a haven of caffeinated glory with trendy decor, seating, and concoctions to boot. It's a little covert house located off of Baeufain that has little to no parking on the street, only residential parking behind and some meters interspersed on the surrounding streets. Good luck finding a spot, but once you do....it's amazing. The shop is quaint. Much smaller than I anticipated. Just a few small bar seats on the perimeter of the building, some booth-ish type tables, and one long picnic style table. Super cozy on the inside and conducive to the coffee culture of Chuck Town. The coffee...All single origin Counter Culture either done in a pour-over fashion, as cold brew or even a few illustrious cocktails. The pour-over. Fantastic. Just pure, unadulterated coffee that is smooth, easily drinkable without cream or sugar (which ruins coffee, in my opinion) and great on a chilly or rainy day. Speaks to the coffee purist. The cold brew. Amazing. Served in a tall glass with several large actually cubed ice cubes. Refreshing, subtle, and well-balanced. My favorite aspect of this place doing cold brew is that they sell growlers of their brew. Growlers? Yes, that's right, fine citizens. Gather round and hear the great news of Black Tap's awesomeness. Growlers of coffee. So much ass kicking going on. Cocktails. These guys are even making cocktails with their coffee. Sans alcohol, of course. Try the Black Julep and thank me later. Pretty decent coffee and espresso. Had a little bit of a wait but the line moved quickly. The only thing I didn't care for was the parking situation and seating was limited. Parking is a premium in this part of town but worth mentioning if you're going to stop in; you'll definitely want to give yourself a few extra minutes to find a place to park before going in for coffee. How did I get to be so lucky that I am 2 blocks from this perfect coffee shop? It is a perfect place to spend time morning, afternoon or early evening enjoying quality coffee and a snack. Not matter what I've ordered -- hot, cold, latte, espresso, tea, soda, savory, sweet (mostly sweet!) -- it is always good, but more importantly relaxing. The owners are good, dedicated people, and they have a great team. If you get a latte, you'll also get some nice art, often themed for the time of year, or holiday. :-) Nice touch. But all of this, the best part... their Black Julep -- espresso shaken over hand crushed ice with mint and local honey FTW! I'm addicted. read more

Fun coffee concoctions. Not bad, but some were a little sweet. I enjoy the adventurousness of their recipes, but they just weren't for me.

I love supporting local and really wanted to like this place. The atmosphere is cute and the coffee was decent (though did not taste like lavender). The bathroom however really grossed me out. It is clearly not cleaned regularly or thoroughly (the sink wasn't just grimy, it was dusty too), reminiscent of a gas station restroom. Made me question the level of cleanliness behind the counter as well, and cringe at the bare hands guiding the ice into my drink. read more

My favorite feature of this minimalist little coffee joint are the iced lattes that come in lavender and brown sugar (my fav). They use counter culture beans. No decaf espresso beans available for decaf americanos, iced coffees or lattes/capps but you can get a decaf pour over. Anyone giving Black Tap fewer than four stars is crazy. This place is legit! Black Tap only serves Counter Culture Coffee. This is notable because 1) CC's product is high quality, and 2) CC had a rep in-store the day of my visit. The rep said he wasn't a Black Tap employee, but was there to ensure that Black Tap employees became experts on serving CC's high quality beans to the thirsty public. This is the kind of customer service that wins life-long customers. Service was exceptional. There was one barista on staff and he was quick to ask and answer questions to help with my choices. Having the CC rep there was additionally helpful even though the knowledgeable and well-trained barista was able to field all my questions. We ordered 3 pour-over, single origin coffees (Kenyan, Honduran, and Guatemalan) to go with my Ethiopian espresso. All 4 items were delicious. I loved the Kenyan coffee's surprise lime note, which added a wonderful citrus zing to an already complex finish. I would have stayed around and ordered more if we hadn't been in a hurry to make the most of our last day in town. When you arrive early on Saturday for your weekly rental, this is the first stop you should make! If you live in Charleston, then God help your wallet once you try the fantastic joe at Black Tap. read more

Despite its location adjacent to the projects, this is a great coffee shop and a local gem. It's very bright and open, and the natural air feeling is a great compliment to their unique and delicious coffee. There are several pour-over options and an arrangement of sweets. It would be a great place to read or study if you're looking for a quiet place to have a cup of coffee. read more
